Delays in MacPro 3.2 GHz delivery

I am wondering if there are problems in the supply chain for the faster MacPros.
On April 2, I ordered a MacPro 3.2GHz with the NVidia 8800 video card. I was told that delivery would be in 2 to 3 weeks. Well the 3 week mark has long passed and still no sign of the MacPro's arrival. What is even more frustrating is that no one can tell me when it will arrive. I have asked several times for an estimated delivery date but all I get back from my end of the delivery chain is "no idea, maybe soon".
I understand that, living in Thailand, I am a long way from the core Apple service network but I have been told that the "no idea" message comes through Apple Thailand from Apple Singapore.
Seems a bit strange to me that customers of Apple's flagship / most expensive product should be treated in such an off-hand manner.
Does anyone know what is happening in the MacPro supply chain and if there is any hope of seeing a delivery in the near future?
Regards
Peter

Online order? brick and mortar? 3rd party vendor, reseller or VAR?
Bit of a sore point really. I live in Bangkok, Thailand. Our only option is a bunch of resellers of variable quality. I use the best one that I can find and have done business with him for 10 years. Usually he gets more orders filled within a couple of days.
For smaller items, I wait for a trip to Singapore or HK but, unless I can hide the item in a suitcase, Thai customs would have a field day if I carried a large dutiable item in through the airport myself. So, for larger items, like CPUs and displays, I have to go through the local resellers. They are downstream from Apple Thailand (which I think is a distributor, not an Apple office) and Apple Singapore (who probably don't care much about Thailand).
I dearly hope that, one day, Apple will decide to become a global company, ensuring quality service in most markets and open up the Apple online store and iTunes store to all countries.
In my case, I can not do much but wait ... with decreasing patience.
But, with such a long delay, and no access to information, I was wondering if there was a fundamental problem causing a backlog out of the assembly plant in China.
Regards
Peter

We've been having problems with Premiere Pro CC v8.1 Caravan on our MacPro 2x2.8 Ghz Quad Core running 10.10.1. We get hard crashes, etc. Disk Warrior finds two Adobe related rsrc files damaged:

Might these be related to the hard crashes? Should we delete them, and if so, how should we delete them? What else should we try?

  • For better speed, will a MacPro 2.8 ghz or airbook flash drive and 1.8 ghz?

For better speed, will a MacPro 2.8 ghz or airbook flash drive and 1.8 ghz?

It's going to depend on what you are doing with the machine.  If what you are doing is processor intensive, then higher clock speed would give more speed.  Assuming though, that the higher speed processor machine is going to have a spindle drive, then if the issue is one that is drive dependent (and a lot of things are), then the MBA will generally be faster.
If you have a machine you are replacing, I'd suggest looking at whether the applications you are now using tend to absorb lots of processor time (are you hitting 100% CPU usage regularly) or spend most of the time excercising your hard drive (drive activity is constant).  If the former, the Pro is likely the better option, while if the latter the MBA would likely do better.
Of course, if price is no object just get a Pro level machine with an SSD...

If your Blue-Ray video is under 30 minutes, you can burn it to  DVD disc using a DVD burner. I haven't had any problems playing these discs in a Blue-Ray player. The quality is the same as burning to a Blue-Ray disc.
First I make a disc image and open that in the VLC player to check the quality... after that... burn to disc.

  • Best Buy Delivery - OPTIMA - YUK

    My Experience:
5/31/14-bought dishwasher, delivery & set up, scheduled for 6/1/14.  Told phone call would come the night prior with a 2 hr. window.  Did receive email saying delivery was set.
6/9/14-received 2nd email confirming delivery would come 6/10/14, no phone call.
6/10/14-called Best Buy - couldn't find the delivery scheduled, on the phone for 1 1/2 hrs., then told by the Clerk, it wasn't Best Buys problem, Optima (delivery company) did not pick it up, wouldn't be delivered, I needed to call Optima and complain to them.
6/10/14-called Optima- said they couldn't help it, they didn't have a tech for my area, wouldn't get delivered, but someone from Optima would call me back to resolve, phone call never came.
6/10/14-Called Best Buy back, talked w/associate, he called Optima, returned my phone call, said he was working on it, I would be called back between 4-6pm, call came @ 730pm.  Sorry no delivery today.  He would work on it @ 800am on 6/11/14
6/11/14-Called Best Buy @ 1215pm, no call had come to me.  I was told the assc. working the problem would call me back, he did @ 1245pm, couldn't resolve my issue, he's still working on it, but, no delivery today.  Will let me know when it can be delivered.
Took the day off work for delivery, spent approx. 5 hrs on the phone with various people, washed dishes 3 times as I have a large gathering scheduled for the weekend.  This was all explained to several people to no avail, again, sorry, can't do anything about it.

DEFINITLY TIME TO RETHINK YOUR DELIVERY CONTRACT WITH "OPTIMA"

    Hi barbella58,
Wow, this is certainly way more contacts than necessary when making an appliance purchase with Best Buy! While I definitely thank you for making your purchase with us, I sincerely apologize for any delay you’ve experienced with the delivery and setup of your dishwasher. Rearranging your schedule due to an installation appointment can often be difficult, and I further apologize if you made arrangements, only for your appointment to not occur.
I reached out to Optima on your behalf, and spoke with one of their representatives. They spoke to the previous details about not having a technician in your area, and it sounds like this is the main reason for the delay. Your installation and delivery order is in the hands of Optima’s escalations team, and they generally have a 24-48 hour turnaround time for a response. I was advised that they would be reaching out to you once a proper technician is lined-up to perform the services.
Please let me know if you don’t hear from Optima, and I’ll happily assist further. Thank you for registering on the forums and sharing your concerns with us, and don’t hesitate to let me know if you need further assistance.
    Sincerely,

  • RAM Memory question for Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz

Hi all. I've got a MacPro 2.66 Ghz machine and I'm wondering if I need more RAM. Depending on who I talk to, I get a different answer so I'm hoping for some educated opinions. I've been monitoring my system and I get the following numbers from the Activity Monitor:
    Wired: 1.20 GB
    Active: 1.81 GB
    Inactive: 957 MB
    Free: 53 MB
Although it appears I have quite a bit of memory between inactive and free, the computer at times performs "choppy" and slow. I get the "beachball" frequently. I've verified the disc volume and also verified permissions and there appears to be no issues.
Based on the fact that the computer is used heavily by two users, is there a possibility that I do need more RAM? Or should I run an diagnostic on the computer to confirm if there is another issue. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hello wenwon (and welcome),
    1. Assuming you've decided (wisely) to follow the suggestions to add RAM, I can only add that you should shop around - for only - "certified" RAM for your Mac Pro. Just for example, I've found macsales.com to be a good source: I bought 4 x 1 GB certified FB-DIMM w/ ECC RAM for a fraction of Apple installed price. Performance has been completely satisfactory.
Tips: adding RAM to the Mac Pro is easy & fast but must be done exactly to the instructions. macsales.com provides a good video tutorial which will help. Also, you will eventually hear that adding RAM causes more power consumption and higher running temp than, for example, adding hard drives. This is true: but read reviews such as the one on AMUG <http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/intel/macpro/>, which allievates that concern.
    2. I firmly agree with AjanovicH; don't jump on 10.5 as soon as it comes out. I had the chance to talk in person to a developer and he "seconded" my own "wait for maturity" standard. Besides, he also said that 10.4 has (obviously) reached full maturity and stability. How long you wait is up to you - just keep track of subsequent point releases (as in: 10.5.2, etc). And - do keep track of what's being said on the 10.5 Discussion threads and whatever other sources you find reliable. My own rule of thumb is to wait until the XX.x.5 release comes out. Minimizes the chance of spending time with problems which do come during the interim releases.

  • Are There Any Other Speakers You Can Use with MacPro Besides 5.1?

I have Logitech Z5500 speakers on my PowerMac G5 and I wanted to get speakers for the MacPro but not the 5.1 speakers because I don't want to crowd it up with 5 more speakers. But it seems like the only speakers that have the optical port are the 5.1 speakers and they don't have 2 optical ports to support both computers.
Do I have any other choices? Any ideas??

  • Invoicing getting Delayed

    Hi All,
There  is a  delay in creation of invoice after delivery has been created. Usually the process is for Creation of invoice will depend on the route(no. of days in transit) after the actual GI date.
For Example: If Tuesday is the actual GI date and if it is a 2 day route, invoice has to be created on Friday.
But there is a very long delay in creation of Invoices. Kindly note the invoice will get created in  the Batch Job.
    Please advice
    Regards,
    Manjunath

The issue is the invoice which should have been created after taking the transportation route
For information, Route is nothing to do with generation of billing documents.  It is purely related to posting the goods issue.

  • Trying to deactivate on old G4 and transfer CS2 to new MacPro (intel)

I have been using Photoshop CS2 on my old G4 and slowly migrating (a year now, lol) over to my new (relatively) MacPro 2.99 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon running V 10.4.11.
My old G4 is now crapping out and getting hung up all the time, so I need to use Photoshop and Illustrator (CS2 also) on my new compter.
The problem is; both are on my network and if both are turned on I can use all the apps on my new computer, but if I turn the G4 off I get the message "Looking up G4 computer".
At this point, the photoshop splash screen just sits there, because it's not finding the old G4.
Why does it need the G4 to run??
I'm getting the same thing in Illustrator. Illustrator actually gets farther than Photoshop. I can get to the interface before it starts looking for my old G4....
    HELP!!!!
I have a flier that's due on Monday at 2:30!
I called Adobe and they said that they no longer support CS2 problems!
You need to be rich to keep up with the Jones's!
These are legal copies that I upgraded to CS2 online. Now I don't know how to reinstall if that's necessary.
The only discs I have are Photoshop 7 and Illustrator 9.

    Thanks
That makes more sense than anything else. Although it remains a bit of a puzzle why both Adobe apps run on my Intel Mac even though I'm running leopard (assuming 10.4.11 is Leopard, I have trouble keeping track of the number and corresponding animal, lol) so long as I have my old mac running on my network. It appears to be referencing something to make it run....
    It also begs the questions
    1. I didn't make a backup version of the CS2 upgrades, but I am still able to use my old mac and burn DVDs (for now). I can hear the hardrive re-reading, usually a sign of a hard drive on it's way out. Which files do I need to backup? And if I do back them up. What am I re-installing on the new Mac?
    2. Since CS2 appears to be installed on the new Mac, is it a matter of upgrading to CS4 just on the new Mac? Will it then run natively?
Sorry for all the questions. I use the creative suite extensively, but am not loaded enough to be able to drop the cash required for a new install right now.

    £2,249 ( i.e. £200 CHEAPER!!! )
Am I missing the point here?
    Regards
    Duncan

The USA site isn't listing ANY (dual 3GHz or quad), on the Specials page for me to compare but in the past the dual quad-core were even then very rare birds. When they do, they were $2239 and $2499-ish. Awesome, but not as good a buy probably as the new 2008 +UNLESS+ you need to run Tiger and you can get them to include a copy of 10.4.11 with them.
The stock *Early 2008 3.0GHz* is an *$800 extra* BTO
    Cost: *US$3599*.
I think you are seeing a "new" 2007 vs refurbished.
with TWICE AS MUCH RAM, and A BIGGER HARD DISK for ..
Well, twice as much is still only 1GB more which is quite cheap, AND the ref'd models usually do come with 2GB (more than listed) and sometimes with the X1900. Also, 500GB drives have fallen in the last year from US$200+ to around $100 retail, so 250 vs 320GB is next to nothing.
New would be 2008 model running on 1600MHz bus, and come with Radeon 2600. I am sure that isn't what you saw.
New in this case seems to mean "liquidating." And I have bought new from Specials.

  • MacPro not seen in XP's "my network places"

    Hi,
I have a small business network made of 6 macs (from G3 to MacPro, all with OSX 10.4.9) and 1 PC with XP Pro.
All the Macs have Windows sharing enabled with WORKGROUP name.
My problem is that I can see every Mac in PC's "my network places/workgroup" except one, the MacPro. It is not seen under WORKGROUP in other Macs but it is in "My network".
It can see all the WORKGROUP members, PC included.
I wonder if this can be due to its Intel processor (the only one in this network, excepted the PC) or if I missed something ?
    Any ideas ?
    Thank's for help.

Don't have an IntelMac to try, but I think I'd try toggling the Firewall settings and Sharing Prefs on and off with a log out/in or two on that Mac... it can take up to 50 minutes for a Share to show up in XP also!
Second guess would be to trash...

  • Startup-Crash of AE CS4 on new MacPro

    Hi there,
We've experienced a huge problem with AE CS4: After installing a 3rd party plug-in (MBL), AE refused to start and crashed while initialising the media kernel.
We've tried everything to get it up and running again, but nothing seems to work: Uninstall AE, Re-install AE, Update AE to 9.0.1, removed all plug-ins and extensions, repaired rights etc. AE still crashes on startup/initialising
Anybody has an idea or similar experiences?
    Our config:
    MacPro 2,93 GHz
16 GB RAM (build-in by Apple)
2x 1 TB internal drives (build-in by Apple)
    ATI 4780 HD Graphic
    1x 30" Display
1x 23" Display (via MiniDisplay Port)
    Mac OS X 10.5.6
    Thanks you so much,
    Decon

Some other things to think of:
    Users:Decon:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common --> kill the MediaCore rules
Users:Decon:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common:MediaCache --> kill the cache files in it
In addition, consider killing the AE OpenGL plug-in. Beyond that I'm pretty much at a loss. Definitely some configuaration data has gone haywire, but I'm not much of a Mac user, so I feel inadequate to advise.
PS.: By "kill" I mean to move stuff out of the way to a different location, not delete it completely. You wouldn't wanna go through lengthy installs just to get the openGL plug-in back...

  • Which MacPro doesn't work with Windows 7

One question for curiosity and one I need to act on:
I've got a MacPro 2x2.66 GHz Intel Xeon with 5GB Ram. Is there a way for me to tell whether I can run Windows7 in a BootCamp partiton? The documentation seems to indicate that "mid 2006" version of my machine will not run Windows 7 for some reason I don't understand.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3986
Mac Pro (Mid 2006, Intel Xeon Dual-core 2.66GHz or 3GHz)
Also, I've got an existing XP BootCamp install on one of my 500 GB hard drives on my MacPro desktop which I am accessing from the other 500 GB hard drive running OSX. I am using Parallels to do this but will boot directly into XP if the software requires it for performance.
Can anyone help me figure out if I should do a Windows 7 partition on my new MacBookPro or whether I should stick with Windows XP for this partition? I also plan on accessing it via Parallels on this machine and then booting directly into the Windows partition if the need arises. I believe I will be storing all my files on the OSX "side" of the hard drive.
I guess if I do the XP install I only have to keep track of one set of drivers? Any reason to do Windows 7 on the Laptop? Any suggestions on minimum size?
    Thanks,

I guess I can do a Win7 install on the new MacBookPro but my MacPro circa 2007 is considered a "MacPro circa 2006" and won't do what I reasonably could have expected when I bought this machine in 2007 - which is run windows software with some reasonable level of similarity to any other computer that runs windows software...

  • Missing RAM after update MacPro to 10.5.7

    Hi community,
I installed 10.5.7 last night and got the following issue:
    Configuration (real one):
    MacPro 2x3.2 GHz Xeons
    32GB RAM
System Profiler 10.5.6: 32 GB RAM installed.
System Profiler 10.5.7 after first reboot: 24GB RAM installed
System Profiler 10.5.7 after second reboot: 28GB RAM installed
System Profiler 10.5.7 boot this morning (eight hours later): 32 GB RAM installed
System Profiler 10.5.7 reboot after Safari 4 security update (same morning): 28GB RAM installed.
I got the same information from the activity monitor.
What is 10.5.7 doing with my RAM? I want my 32GB back!
I'm hoping that booting five times will give me 64GB of RAM...
Hoping for resolution of the phenomenon.
    Cheers,

it might be a very strange coincidence if this would be a hardware defect. Cause all the time booting 10.5.6 all worked well and just after upgrading to 10.5.7 some RAM bars are identified as 2GB bars rather then 4GB.
It may not be as improbable as you think: Each major version of the OS (like 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard) has been more demanding of memory than the last, which not that infrequently exposes substandard memory & provokes comments much like yours. It isn't unthinkable that the same might be true for a minor version change (like 10.5.6 to 10.5.7).
But rather than guess about it, it makes more sense to test the memory & other hardware subsystems. You can use Apple Hardware Test (AHT) for a general check, especially since the problem seems to be in recognizing the size of the module at startup time rather than any specific memory cell defect. Since AHT is essentially a mini-OS purpose-designed to exercise the hardware, it is independent of any specific version of OS X you might load from either your startup drive or system disc. (That is why you must boot into it rather than run it as an application under some other OS.)
