Delegate Terminal Services Rights

Hello,
we have windows 2003 and windows 2008 servers.
i want to give rights some users to maintain only terminal services also they will be able to log on these servers
(they can log off another users, add another user to remote desktop users group etc.)
how can i do that ?
thanks
note : i have gave already full permission in terminal services configuration

Hi,
1. In AD Users and Computers, create a global security group for your support users, for example named RDS Support Users.  Members of this group will have the ability to log off/remote control/etc. RDS/TS users and grant users the ability
to log on to your RDS/TS servers by adding users to a group.  Please add the users that you would like to maintain your ts users to this group.
2. In AD Users and Computers, create a global security group for each one of your RDS/TS servers, for example named SERVERNAME Remote Desktop Users or if you do not need granular control create a single global security group that will be used to grant
access to all RDS/TS servers.  Your support users from step 1 will add users to this group when they want to grant access to your RDS/TS servers.
3. Log on to each RDS/TS server as an admin, open Computer Management, and make the appropriate global group you created in step 2 a member of the local Remote Desktop Users group.
4. In AD Users and Computers, make sure View--Advanced Features is selected.  Right-click on each of the groups created in step 2 and choose Properties.  On the Security tab, click the Advanced button, click Add, enter the group name from step
1, then on the Properties tab select Allow Write Members and then save the entry.
5. On each RDS/TS, RD Session Host Configuration or Terminal Services Configuration, double-click on RDP-Tcp and grant the group from step 1 Full Control.  You said you already did this step but I am including it for completeness.
After finishing all of the above steps please make sure that your support users log off and back on for the changes in group membership to take effect.  If your support users will be remote controlling other users please have the target users (the normal
users) log off and back on so that the security changes will take effect.  They must completely log off of the RDS/TS servers, not just disconnect/reconnect.
Please test that your support users are able to add/remove user accounts to the groups created in step 2 and that they are able to log off sessions, etc.
Thanks.

  • Reconcile AD Terminal Services attributes

    Hi,
I am using AD connector 9.1.1 and wnat to reconcile Terminal Services attributes for a AD user but I do not want to use the remote manager.
Can anyone tell me is there any way by which we can reconcile these attributes without using Remote Manager
    TIA

OK, these are Microsoft names, their LDAP names don't have dashes. These attributes were added to AD schema in Windows Server 2003 but only exposed via LDAP in Windows 2008. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms675090%28VS.85%29.aspx for full list. To make them visible, you need to delegate control over these attributes to right user accounts or groups/OUs (via AD Users and Computers or by scripting).
Native Microsoft scripting tools use ADSI to manage these attributes (starting with Server 2003) and ADSI driver uses LDAP syntax but it's not the same thing as pure LDAP.
Before 2008, userParameters was used to store terminal services info. Actually, I dont know what 2008 does with these new attributes and how it works with userParameters, it's not documented well.

  • How to change path of Users Terminal Services Profile for multiple AD users on server 2003?

Hello experts. I am working on a file server migration. All data has been migrated, I am currently working on redirecting users to the new file server. I
am able to select multiple users at once in ADUC -> right-click -> properties -> profile and here I can change the home folder and roaming profile path for each all users to point towards the new file server.
The issue I have run in to is that we have roaming profiles for terminal services users. So, there are hundreds of users that have their terminal services profile
configured in AD -> Right-click user (one at a time) -> properties -> terminal services profile. Here, the profile path is configured for each user as \\OLDserver\Profiles\%username%
and I need to change it to \\NEWserver\profiles\%username%.
I know that you can configure this path via group policy, I set up a GPO; Computer / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Terminal Services / “Set Path
for TS Roaming Profiles” as \\NEWserver\profiles and applied this GPO to an OU containing the TS servers.
The problem is, the GPO is not working... When I log in to the TS and add a document to My Documents, it is still saving under \\OLDserver\profiles\Username.
So, the settings in AD are trumping the GPO I believe. What is the best way to accomplish my goal? Thanks in advance!

    > to change it to \\NEWserver\profiles\%username%.
That is "profile" in opposite to...
    > add a document to My Documents, it is still saving under
    > \\OLDserver\profiles\Username.
...this one which is Folder Redirection and has NOTHING to do with
    server based profiles.
    > So, the settings in AD are trumping the GPO I believe.
No, it isn't. When you do not enable FR and you access "Documents", you
will never see an UNC path but the local c:\users\xyz\documents folder.

  • Harden Server 2008 R2 Terminal Services

I found an article to harden Terminal Services on Windows 2008 R2,http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc264467.aspx, but there are a couple of things that I am not clear about.
As I am working through this in my test environment I had a couple of questions.
First with the Network Level Authentication enable I want to verify that what I did worked.  I was having some weird problems with the check box grayed out so I created a GPO with the following settings under Polices\Administrative Templates\Windows
    Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Security:
Set client connection encryption level:  Enabled High Level
    Require secure RPC communication: Enabled
Require use of specific security layer for remote (RDP) connections: Enabled SSL
Require user authentication for remote connections by using Network Level Authentication: Enabled
With those items set how can I verify that NLA is working and that the communication is secured with my CA issued certificate?
The other question I have is with the Single Sign-On GPO settings.  I know what the settings are based on the above mentioned article, but it does not say whether it should be applied to the clients or the server and of course a good way to test
    based on the GPO application.
Thanks in advance, I just want to make sure this is done right.
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
Thank you for your post in Windows Server Forum.
Can you elaborate the issue which you are facing with NLA check box grayed out?
You can try to check the connection for the local user to check whether he can bale to login the system without adding the user to NLA authentication.
In regards to the Single Sign On setting must be applied to client side, as it’s display in the article that need to do on windows vista. Please refer below article for information regarding SSO.

  • Terminal Services Role and Oracle

    Hi all,
In an unsupervised moment, Oracle 9i was installed on a Windows 2003 server with Terminal Services (application mode) installed.
Now I want to remove the TS role from the 2003 server but it warns that I have to reinstall all software. I can imagine this warning is certainly useful for Microsoft Office since it uses specific MST transform files for installing in this multi-user environment.
Is it possible to break my Oracle installation when removing the TS server role? Has anyone attempted this before?
    Best Regards
    Wim

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for your post.
If I understand correctly, the current status is that you have added Domain Admins and Bosses groups to the local Administrators group on all Windows XP workstations, Windows Server 2003 terminal server, and the domain controllers. You can log onto the Windows XP workstations and the Terminal server via RDP with a user that is a member of the Bosses group. However, you cannot log onto the domain controllers with the same user. If there is anything I have misunderstood, please feel free to let me know.
To better understand the issue, I suggest that you perform the following steps to check if the permission is configured correctly:
    1.    Please run rsop.msc to open the Resultant Set of Policy console on the domain controller.
    2.    Navigate to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment
    3.    Verify that the Administrators group is added to the policy Allow log on through Terminal Services.
If the group is not added to the policy or the setting is not correct, please edit the Default Domain Controller Policy GPO to correct the settings.
    Thanks.

  • ADS+Terminal Services on a Single Physical Server running Windows Server 2008 R2

We have a Dual Processor Server (2 x Intel Xeon E5-2620v2 + 32GB RAM) running on Windows Server 2008 R2. This has ADS configured. We now wish to add a VDI Setup with NComputing Zero-Clients. We have to run Terminal Services with User RDS CAL + User
    CAL for all VDI Clients.
Please confirm if we can have both the ADS & Terminal Services running on the same physical server ? Are there known issues or crashes due to this ? Or should both these run on two different servers ? Customer does not want to invest in one more server
& OS. Hence, we have to run both the services on a single physical server. Customer has just upgraded his server to a Dual Processor with 32GB RAM to accommodate both the services.
Please advice, if we can run both the ADS & TS on the same server. What is the best practice for this Solution ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    VR
    ([email protected])

    Hi,
After referring your comment I can say that, you can able to use ADS and Terminal service on same physical server with server 2008 R2. But installing a terminal server on an Active Directory domain controller is not recommended. I suggest that it’s not a good
practice to manage the environment in that way. If possible, then try to run on two different machines for better result and to avoid any problem. Allowing users to run programs on a domain controller could create security risks and performance issues.
If the Terminal Server role service is installed on a domain controller, the security settings of the domain controller will need to be adjusted to allow user’s remote access to the server. This remote access is controlled by the "Allow log on through Terminal
Services" user rights assignment, which can be configured by using the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC).
You can refer below link for more information.
    1.  Installing RD Session Host on a Domain Controller
    2.  Best practices for setting up Remote Desktop Licensing (Terminal Server Licensing) across Active Directory Domains/Forests or Workgroup

  • OIM: Terminal Services Profile Path

    Hi,
I am using OIM and AD with the OOTB AD connector.
I have made a pre-populate adapter that generates a Terminal Services Profile Path for a user. I would like the path to be added to users when they are created.
I have added an entry in the the AD User Form, pre-populate tab. Field name: Terminal Profile Path. Adapter: My generate Terminal Services Profile Path adapter.
Unfortunately, the Terminal Profile Path field is not pre-populated in the process form.
I have also tried to add a process task triggered by the create user task, and made my adapter a Process Task Adapter. This did not work either.
Just to test it, since there is no column for Terminal Services in the usr table, I created a Terminal Services Profile Path UDF. When I fill in the path in the UDF manually, the Terminal Profile Path field is not pre-populated in the process form.
I have made pre-populate adapters for other UDFs and had no troubles with that. Does anyone know if there is something special about this Terminal Services Profile Path field?
    Thanks!!

    Thanks Rajiv,
When I use a process task, the task is invoked, and I get:
    Status: Rejected
    Response: 62: Unknown response received.
But I thought I didn't really need to use a process task, and that it would be sufficient with a pre-populate adapter mapped to the right field. But it seems like I'm not using the field in the correct way...?
    Thanks!

  • Excel Add-In with Terminal Services

Hello Everyone<BR><BR>Does anyone have any experience using the Excel Add-In with a terminal services session (remote desktop)? Local box administrators have no issues but when a non admin user starts MS Excel, they get a VBA runtime error (essexcln.xll not found) Closing that window and attempting to install the add-in via Tools >> Add-Ins >> and browsing to the essexcln.xll file returns the error "essexcln.xll is not a valid add-in"<BR><BR>Seems to be a rights issue but the users have full rights to the folder where the add-in is located (Hyperion\AS\bin\) .<BR><BR>Thanks in advance for any tips.

Check the file permissions on c:\winnt\system32\msvcr71.dll. This needs to be 'Read/Execute' for 'everyone'. The add-in installation only gives permissions to the User who is installing the add-in. Which causes problems when other users need to access the Add-in. (Similar problem on Citrix / TS). <BR><BR>James Archer

  • Excel add-in Terminal Service, not connection is made

<p>I have a problem with Excel add-in on Terminal Service. Theinstallation went all right and the add-in is found by Excel. Theproblem is when I try to connect to one of the essbase serversnothing happens. When I check the server no login attempt has beenmade, the funny thing is that when I enter a server name that doesnot exist I get an error message telling me that the servercouldn&rsquo;t be found (so clearly the add-in is doing something). The versions that I&rsquo;m using for the add-in is 7.1.5 andI&rsquo;m trying to connect to a servers with the essbase versions7.1.5 and 7.1.2. This sounds liek an issue we have seen a number of times.<BR><BR>When you first connect you will need write access to the essbase\ folder on the machine where Essbase add-in is installed. • Redirect Printer is not working in windows 2008 R2 Server( Server Running as AD and Terminal Service(both role in single server))

    Dear Team
    i need solution from Microsoft for the issue;
    My infrastructure
    - Windows Server 2008 R2 (Role - AD and Terminal Service)- Updated
    - Client Machine running with windows 7 pro (Updated)
    - Client Using RDP Client to connect Windows 2008 Terminal Session
    - All are working fine, but Redirect Printing is not working (Through Windows 7 Pro) ... (HP Laser Jet 1020 plus - attached in Client PC)
    - it is working fine from Windows XP
    - i was done All terminal setting in both end, also try RDP Login with Administrator User, but issue is not resolve;
    What Microsoft can say about the issue;
    Thanks & Regards,

Have you checked the Print Service log in event viewer?
    Here's How.
I have the Microsoft XPS driver on my clients, so I use that fact to my advantage below.
Click Start Button/Administrative Tools/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Services Manager on the RDSH server
Click the Sessions tab.  PC’s are listed Under Client Name by their computer name.  Take Note of the corresponding
ID.  We will use this to locate the Printer information in the Event Log.
In the Event Log open Application and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/Print Service/Admin/ and Find the Event ID 823 entry that has the corresponding ID from the sessions tab you previously noted.
This Event Log Entry is created at Logon and you can only get the session ID when they are logged in.
This tells you what client printer was mapped for the client.  The name that appears is the name of the Printer that was set on the client when the printer was installed.
See if you see any errors here.
If you see Event Id 823 with the following message “The default printer was changed to Microsoft XPS Document Writer,winspool,Ne00:. See the event user data for context information.”  Twice in a row with no other messages in between, and the first occurs
at the time the user logged in, then their printer was not properly redirected.
You see the Microsoft XPS driver mapped for each session prior to Easy Print redirecting the client machine’s Default Printer.
Since your printer is the HP 1020 I would bet the driver on the client does not work with Easyprint.  I would try the  the HP Universal Print Driver or the driver for a printer that is very close, like the HP 1018.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

  • Crystal Report and Terminal Service 2008 (registry trouble ?)

    Hi to everyone,
I develop an account software that use Crystal Report to obtain reporting capabilities. My software supports three runtimes of Crystal Reports: release 8, release 9 and release XI.
The user can configure the application and choose which to use.
Some installations (of our customers) use Terminal Server features: the application is installed on the host pc (usually Windows Server 2003), and the clients (running XP) connect to the host and use the software via Terminal Service, and all works fine.
Recently one customer of ours has set up a Windows Server 2008, and troubles began ! ... the Crystal Reports runtime failed to function. Let me try to explain the scenarioes:
    - Host PC with Terminal Service 2008
    - User A on a PC with Windows XP
    - User B on a PC with Windows XP
scenario 1, my application uses Cristal Report Runtimes XI
User A and B can correctly install the runtimes.
Both of the user cannot print reports due to a failure instantiatìing the COM components of Crystal Report.
scenario 2, my application uses Cristal Report Runtimes 9 ... the most funny
User A connect to the host, install the runtimes and start to use the application. All works fine.
User B connect to the host, install the runtimes and start to use the application. User B can use the application (and print reports) but suddenly the User A failed to print (failure instantiatìing the COM components of Crystal Report).
Well ... User A reinstall Crystal Reports library and newly register COM components, and the application newly works fine (and print reports correctly) ... but User B suddenly stop printing reports (the same error).
User B reinstall Crystal Reports library and newly register COM components, and the application newly works fine (and print reports correctly) ... but User A suddenly stop printing reports (the same error) ... and so on.
scenario 3, my application uses Cristal Report Runtimes 8
User A and User B can correctly install the runtimes and the software works fine !
Very funny beacuse ver. 8 of Crystal Reports Runtime are quite old, but they works properly instead of rel. XI (more recent) that doesn't work at all !
Crystal Report runtimes use heavily Windows Registry, and setting up those runtimes require a lot of registry update (due to COM interfaces); maybe there is some registry issue/trouble that scramble Crystal Report runtimes configuration ... the scenario 2 is quite bizarre and counfuse me !
Shall I need to configure some setting on Terminal Service 2008 ?
any idea ? thank you very much.

Ah.. I hate when they do that, if you are going to write an application then support it.... At least help figure out why it's failing other than just saying it should work....
I would get on a call with them and get a Manager involved, someone there should be able to help you...
    In the mean time:
First easiest way is search for crpe32.dll, there should only be one version and it should match the est of the file versions. Next step will tell you the versions being used.
OK, download [Modules|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip]. what this app will do is list all of the runtime files each user has access to. You can save and then compare the list files between the  one working PC and any other user. Should help determine what is missing or the users profile doesn't have access to or not installed.
Another option is to use ProfileMonitor from Microsoft, it will list all access issues including the registry keys that all users need to run CR.
Can you tell me what version you are using?
Also need to know what version of TS?
    OS it's running on?
    And work station OS?
One more option, go to this link http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/advancedsearch?query=boj and search on "invalid tlv" and it will return a bunch of know reasons why you can get that error.
    Thanks
    Don

  • Field explorer does not open on my terminal services profile

    Dear Sirs,
For some reason I am unable to open my field explorer in any crystal report on my terminal services profile. I have checked with other profiles and the problem does not exist. The problem is specific to my profile. I can also create new reports and access fields however if I use the filed explorer button I cannot access fields, parameters or formulas from there. Problem just started this morning. We have been using crystal reports X1 for last 12 months. Would it be a terminal server issue?
I would appreciate whatever help you can give me.

    Hi Philip
This can be an issue with the terminal server that you are using. Please refer to the Crystal Reports XI supported platforms guide if the server that you are using is supported or not.
You can download the guide from the below link:
