  • Deleting a bookmark in Safari

    Hello,
This is a safari question, but I am unable to access the safari board, and thought this was a basic enough question that any experienced Apple user could answer it.
I am unable to delete bookmarks. I can add them, of course, but cannot figure out how to delete individual bookmarks I am no longer interested in.
Can anyone help with this question?
    Thanks,
    Azurefox

Up at the top of Safari, below the URL Toolbar bar, you should have a bookmark bar on which at the left is a small open page icon.
Create a new Tab (Apple = T) then click on that icon to open the bookmark window in a new Tab.
On the left you should see a COLLECTIONS group and a BOOKMARKS group.
The entries in the BOOKMARK group can be removed (right click and then select Delete). They can be moved to reorder them and so on.

  • Deleting a Bookmark Hangs Safari

I have OS 10.9.5 and Safari 7.1.3 running on an iMac 27" I7 (mid-2010) with 16gb memory. EVERY TIME I try to delete a bookmark, any bookmark, I get a beach ball and Safari hangs. It goes unresponsive and I have to force quit the thing. Pretty unusable. Anybody run into this one?
    Thanks,
    Brad

       Delete Safari .plist file.
Quit all applications. Click on an empty spot on the desktop to activate Finder.
Hold the “Option” key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select “Library” from the drop down.
       Library > Preferences >  com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click it and select  "Move  to Trash".  Close Finder window.
       Please don’t empty the Trash.
       Restart. Launch Safari.
      Test Safari.  Try editting bookmarks
       If this doesn’t help;
       Put back the com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”
Right click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.

  • Safari locks up every time I try to delete a bookmark

Every time I try to delete a bookmark in Safari the computer locks up.  It doesn't matter what method I use to get rid of the bookmark, it locks everything up and I have to force quit the app.  This has happened on the last 3 computers (an older Mac Pro and 2 iMacs).  But it seemed to work ok on my MacBook Air.  I recently upgraded to Yosemite, but this has gone on long before that.  I gave up using Safari and use Chrome but was hoping with the new OS I could weed out some old bookmarks.
    Any suggestions?
    Thansks,  Sue

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Attempting to open bookmarks, hangs Safari

Strange issue. Safari runs fine until I attempt to open the bookmarks. Safari will sit with spinning ball until I force quit. I can add new bookmarks. When I found the bookmarks folder, I can launch to all of the sites by double clicking the entry.
I have run a check of the disk and the permissions. I found a topic describing similar situation having to do with languages. I turned off all but English, but no help.
    Any indeas????
I am wondering if there is a way to delete the bookmarks from safari and rebuild them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found the file and trashed it (after moving a copy to another drive). Upon restart my bookmarks bar reverted to the default, but when I attempt to open all bookmarks, I get the same result.
I was beginning to think it might be related to the latest security update and thought about restoring using time machine to get back prior to the update. When I tried to open the time machine preferences, I encounter the same problem.
I can enter time machine, just not the preferences. Obviously it is not just a safari issue.

  • Delete multiple Bookmarks while keeping Bookmarks Bar and Opening Tabs

    Hello.
I want to delete a lot of bookmarks from my Bookmarks Panel, but can only seem to do so one at a time.
I have accumulated hundreds of bookmarks that I don't need. But I want to keep my Bookmarks Bar in which I have a series of folders containing all the Bookmarks I use. I also open Safari in about 11 or so Tabs and I want to keep those too.
Under 'Collections' in my Bookmarks left hand panel I have my Bookmarks Bar and a few other items - History, Bonjour, RSS Feeds etc. I want to keep all of these. But below this group is another very large list of 'Bookmarks'. I'd like to delete all of those bookmarks in one go, or at least in groups of multiple bookmark deletions. But I can't find any way to do so.
Deleting the Bookmarks.plist deletes everything including all my folder-based Bookmarks Bar contents.
Is there any way to select just the extra Bookmarks for deletion?
    Thanks.

You did not need to purchase Prariefire for $6.99 to delete multiple bookmarks in Safari. This is a ripoff app for what you can easily do in Safari for free.  All you needed to do is select the bookmarks to delete by single tap on your touchpad, or left click on your mouse, and hold down the shift key to select a range of bookmarks to delete; then simply press the "delete" key on your keyboard and the bookmarks will be deleted.  If you want to delete various bookmarks not in a single range, simply hold down your command key and select the bookmarks to delete and then press the "delete" key on your kepboard to delete them.

  • Deleting Bookmarks in Safari 5

Does someone know how to delete a bookmark that has been added to the Bookmark drop down tab of the Safari Menu? Thank you!!!

Tks for your reply, Ho Lee. I did delete it there, but it still shows on top under Bookmarks. I'm not even sure how I got there to begin with...
This is what I see when I click the Bookmarks tab on the Safari Menu.
    Show All Bookmarks
    Add Bookmark...
    Add Bookmark For These Tabs
    Add Bookmark Folder
    Bookmarks Bar
    Dictionary.com (Unwanted bookmark)
    Open in Tabs
    Any ideas?

  • Delete of 'Bookmarks Bar' folder in Safari

Can anyone help to show me how to delete the 'Bookmarks Bar' folder in safari? I can't delete even with 'edit'. It seems to appear after I sunc my iphone with my computer. Thanks.

It's a default 'folder' in the Safari browser (on the computer) - if you sync bookmarks, it will always be on the phone.

  • How to DELETE the bookmark icons from Safari New Tab Pages, How to DELETE the bookmark icons from Safari New Tab Pages

I struggle to believe that I am the only person experiencing this problem.
I just hope somebody has the decency to spend a couple of minutes replying with a resolution.
Every time I click the + sign on my iPad, Safari to open a new tab page..
I am greeted by loads of icons / boxes that are links to my bookmarks.
I want to delete those icons / boxes from the page
If I want to visit one of my bookmarks I use the bookmark icon at the top right of the page.
If I long press on the icons they do not wobble / delete
How can I delete them ?
I dislike them so much I am beginning to think that I will have to stop using safari,
and use a different search engine.....but I shouldn't have to.

If you don't want to see these bookmarks when you open a new tab and you don't want to delete them you'll need to move them. Now as you probably know there isn't really a move function for Bookmarks in iPad, so what I'd recommend is Tap Bookmarks>Favourites tap one of the bookmarks in this folder and when it loads up save it to another location on your iPad - repeat for all bookmarks in this folder, once done tap Bookmarks>Favourites select EDIT and delete all bookmarks in the favourites folder.
You need to bear in mind that FAVOURITES is simply a folder storage area for Bookmarks so any bookmarks you delete from this folder won't be available under Bookmarks unless you follow the process outlined above.

  • How Do I Remove Icons From Safari, Without Deleting My Bookmarks ?

Since the iOS 7 iPad update Safari on my iPad 3 has changed.....and I personally don't like it.
I'm hoping someone can help with this question, as I have searched Apple and Google for the answer.
When I open a Safari page I am greeted by an entire page full of pesky little icons.
Each icon represents one of my many bookmarks.
I don't want a page full of icons, I prefer to click the Bookmark icon which is at the top right hand corner of Safari page.
After much searching online it would seem that I can only see one answer.......which says go to the top right and delete the bookmarks, then the icon disappears.
The icon does vanish......but also so does the bookmark vanish from the top right menu.
I don't want to lose my bookmark from the top right menu, I just want to have a page without 20 icons on it !
    This must be possible....?
I would be very grateful if someone would just take a few minutes to post the solution to this annoying issue please, thanks.

The Bookmark icon is on the left not the right.
You're tapping @ on the right which displays the icons.
Tap the Bookmarks icon on the left.

  • Can't delete or save new bookmarks in safari

I am running OS X 10.8.2 and safari version 6.0.2.
Safari is not allowing me to delete current bookmarks or save any new ones. Manually deleting them from the bookmark page does nothing once I close out and reopen safari. Same goes with saving new ones. I attempted to look at similar threads to find a suggestion and what I found was the advice given to those questions can't be applied to this situation. Mainly because the file path they suggested to go doesn't exist on mine. Any help will much appreciated.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’renot going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • I hate that with ios 7 my bookmarks show up on the safari home screen. Is there a way to remove the icons from the screen without deleting my bookmarks completely?

I have recently updated to ios 7. On my safari home screen there are my favorites listed. I absolutely hate it. Is there anyway to remove the bookmarks from the safari home screen without deleting my bookmarks completely? I am resisting the urge to throw the whole **** thing away and buy another tablet. Please help me! I usually love the updates but I feel ios 7 is more than I can bare. If I wanted Window's crappy format I would have bought a Microsoft product!

On your safaris home screen is a square icons consisting of your favorites and the IOS 7 favorites ( Disney,Apple,Yahoo,Etc) and I knew I wouldn't use these so I wanted to learn how to delete them. So, after messing around a few times with them, I realized how easy it was to delete them. All you have to do is go to the top right corner of your homepage and click on the book icon (found left of the cloud icon). Once you click on it, your history for safaris searches should come up. On the top left corner above your history should be " <Bookmarks " written in blue. Click on that and a list consisting of these should come up ( top to bottom of list ) FAVORITES / HISTORY / GOOGLE /BING / IPAD USER GUIDE. Click on FAVORITES. Your list on the favorites on your home screen should come up. Simply slide over the item to your left (EX.. Yahoo) and a DELETE button in red should come up. Click delete and your done, the icons should disappear on your home screen. Only bad is that you have to delete them from your favorites too.

  • Why is safari 7 deleting my bookmarked websites?

why is safari 7 deleting my bookmarked websites? I keep adding them in and they go to my favorites bar, but once the window closes, more often than not the bookmark is gone from the favorites bar.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
    What is the Modified date?
If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
