  • Cannot delete a draft email

    Hello,
I am having trouble deleting an email saved as a draft. I have tried: editing and then delete, swiping the name of the email and delete, opening the email and using the trash can. Nothing works. As soon as I hit delete, the mailbox closes and I am sent to my home screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sue

    On further examination .....
.... Drafts handling in Mail is totally hosed. Failure modes described above confirmed, plus several more. I have a fairly complete picture of how and when it fails, and have passed that along to Apple already. Below are quick notes on how you can deal with it for now. Caveat the following with the fact that it's only been tested with my MobileMe accounts.
    A. If Mail is working correctly and you create a draft, do not try to delete that draft if it's the only one in the list. Bad things will result from either method of deletion.
    B. Drafts #2 and onwards seem to cause no problems if they are deleted, using either method. Again, this assumes that Mail was operating correctly at the time the new draft was saved and, adgain, don't delete the top one.
    C. Once Drafts moding is 'killed' it can die in any number of ways and may, or may not, crash Mail. Mail will then continue to run poorly for extended periods, and typically will not successfully save new drafts.
    D. The single best indication of Mail running poorly will be a continual "Getting new mail" sort of message displayed at the bottom of the sidebar. You'll also notice when trying to save a draft that you will not see the normal spinning progress wheel appear momentarily at the top of the sidebar.
There are several different ways to regain normal Mail functioning., summarized as follows:
    A. Force Quit the app, holding Home down with red OFF slider visible, or
    B. Force Quit the app from the Recents List, or
    C. Do a Hard Reset, following reset instructions in the User's Guide.
After doing this and re-opening Mail, you may see drafts which have disappeared re-appearing in a Compose window. They can now be saved to Drafts and it will work (note spinning progress wheel at top if sidebar).
Now, don't futz about with it. Just leave the draft there, the top one for sure, and all the rest of them just to be safe.

  • Apple Mail 4.5 won't delete 2 draft emails...

I am new to the forums, and wasn't sure where to put this so please advise if there is a better location.
I have looked all over the forum for this issue with no luck.
Issue is this - have 2 emails in the drafts folder that just won't delete.
Version info is 4.5 on OS X 10.6
Have tried to delete it from webmail but cannot see it there
    Cannot drag and drop it
And deleting just doesn't do anything at all - not even an error message.
Email is housed on an exchange server
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sophie

I took very long time to rebuild. When it's done, the drafts are still there.

  • Can't delete multiple draft emails with Mavericks

I have the problem of Mail saving multiple drafts of my emails on the server. The threads for users earlier versions of OS X, suggest that the solution is to uncheck the 'Store draft messages on the server' option, in the Mail account preferences. However, I find that since upgrading to Mavericks it isn't possible to do this permanently - I uncheck the box and save the change, and when I next look, the box has been rechecked without my doing anything.
I notice one other person using Mavericks reports the same problem - has anyone any suggestions how to resolve this?

I found the answer on another thread - works perfectly - Steve Rhyne has the answer:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/23500944#23500944

If it was on your computer long enough it may be in your backup if you have one.

  • Draft email - cant seem to delete

    iPhone /Mail app
    POP account
    1. create email
    2. dont have time to finish it right now ... ergo save as draft
    3. come back later, decide email is no longer necessary
    4. try to delete it by looking for a trash can icon... none found !
so - how to delete a draft email within iPhone's Mail app ?

When you go into the Draft folder can you tap on the Edit button on the top right corner?
If not try a reset (hold down home and sleep/wake button at the same time until the Apple logo comes up)

  • After visiting any website and then go to my mail I apparently produce a draft email which I have to delete, why is this?

Every time I visit any website and then try to read my emails, a draft email message first appears which I have not produced. I then have to delete it and then go to my in box which . How can I stop this please?

Does it happen in other browsers as well, not just in Firefox? If this is so, it has to do with your mail application and you will have to ask for help there.

  • I have a draft email that keeps crashing the Mail program.  How do I delete the draft before the program locks up?

I have a draft email that has an attachment that keeps crashing Mail.  How do I delete the draft before it locks up the program with the spinning color wheel?

Assuming you're using some IMAP mail service, disconnect from the internet first and quit Mail
Next, click on Finder, choose 'Go' in the menubar and hold down the 'option' key. Choose 'Library' from the menu.
    Navigate to
    Mail/V2/Mailboxes
In there you'll see some folders called things like IMAP-{yourEmailAddress.com} for each email address you have. In each one there is a Drafts folder. Locate the correct one and delete the file.
Do NOT restart Mail, but open your internet connection, go to your web-based email through your browser and delete the draft from there too.
Now you can restart Mail. Choose 'Rebuild' from the Mailbox menu in the menubar.

  • IPad is "frozen" whilst in Draft email. Cannot cancel, delete nor get back to my emails. Help !

IPad is "frozen" whilst in Draft email. Cannot get back to my emails, cannot cancel Draft. Help.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Disappearing draft emails

Within about the last hour or so, about 25 of my draft emails, stored in my Draft mail folder, have disappeared. On both of my computers. Gone.
Anyone else? Any ideas? Is this a joke? Am I on candid computer? Thanks. RR

    You’re welcome.
In that case, if you don’t have a backup, your only option in the case of Mail 2.x is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 1.x). Of these, the only one I know for sure that can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.
