Delete a Style?

Is there a reason that a paragraph style would have the "delete style" option under the little triangle greyed out? It isn't one of the styles that comes with the program. It is one I made, now no longer use and want to get out of the styles drawer.
I don't believe it is used in the document because the "select all uses of style body full" is also greyed out.

Truly weird, I created a new blank document and imported the styles from my original document, making sure I did not import the one I wanted to delete.
When I opened the style drawer - There it was again.
I think Pages is mad at me for trying to delete a style. I have crossed over into the Twilight Zone. (Old American TV show about strange things) LOL!

Does deleting paragraph styles affect documents which used a deleted style?

Assume you have a web page or site made with paragraph styles.
You start a new page in that site but decide to delete a bunch of paragraph styles which you no longer want
The style should be in the html of the earlier documents and deleting the style should not delete the existing HTML.
But with Muse you never can be sure.
So is it ok to clean up the clutter and delete a bunch of old styles when creating something new or not?
Please do not respond unless you actually know the answer. No guesses please.

If you have created a paragraph style and applied to a paragraph, when you try to delete that paragraph style you will get option to replace the paragraph styling with another style (if there exist any):

CS3 Find Font/Delete Paragraph Style/Redefine Paragraph Style Causes Crash

I am running into a very frustrating issue where I cannot replace a paragraph style. The issue is that we used to use some adobe type fonts and want to move to the true type equivalent so that we don't have problems working on files between mac and pc. The problem occurs on both mac and pc on a variety of hardware (both c86 and ppc macs for example). When we open the document it identifies that the font cannot be found (example Palatino T1). When we click find font and select the regular ttf Palatino replacement and click Change All Indesign just vanishes and leaves a crash message with a ton of garbage and a read only memory error. The same happens if we change the font on some text and right click on aragraph style and click "redefine style" - there is a sudden crash.
Trying to work around this I went into our templates and tried to change it there. Opening the paragraph style and selecting the new font caused it to crash upon selecting OK. Also trying to Make a new paragraph style works, but then when deleting the old one causes a crash no matter what combination of mapping or not mapping the old paragraph style we chose (we tried every option under the dialogue and selected several different styles to map to or none at all).
This occurs on several different fonts and on several different templates. I have tried deleting the adobe font cache to no avail. Any help resolving this would be great - all our employees are going nuts over this problem.

Peter, your latest post led me to an interesting revelation. When I change Palatino (t1) bold to Palatino Bold using Find/Change it is fine. When I change Palatino (t1) to any font using Find/Change there is a curious result! As soon as I click find first the page changes to the default template and all content is hidden. The 4 or 5 places where palatino occurs on the default template change fine, but then on the next click of FIND FIRST it crashes! So the problem is connected to "find first", not the actual change. My guess is this is an issue of with how the find/change jumps from the template to the individual page, but I'm not sure exactly what is happening.

Can't delete Unused Styles

InDesign CS5.5. I can Select all unused styles but the option to delete and the trash can icom are grayed out and not selectable. What am I missing??

Trouble deleting paragraph styles

I have a book with five documents in it. I am trying to delete some paragraph styles but they just don't want to go away. I keep deleting them from one of the documents, then I make that document the style source, synchronize the other documents with it, and the styles keep reappearing. I've tried doing it with different documents but I still get the same result.

Syncing book doesn't delete styles only adds.
Just open each file (only 5 of them) and remover the styles...they are pobably used somewhere.

How to delete a style, "Heading 1"

So I chose one of the outline templates, played around with it, and saved it as my own template. Everything was fine.
However, now that I'm working with it, I noticed that two instances of the "Heading 1" style have appeared. One of them isn't used - i.e. no text is in it, but I can't delete either of them. The option is grayed out.
How do I delete it? This also happened with the "Title" style...

it doesn't appear from the start in the templates, but appears somewhere along the way.. randomly, doesnt happen often, but ive noticed it.. cant reproduce
If you can't shake them off try trashing your Pages' plists in your system libraries.
would that affect anything else? i.e. preferences?

"Delete Styles" not possible in new generated Pages Document

Dear all,
is this normal:
I make a new Document out of an empty template.
Now this doc has some styles.
Some of these styles I can´t delete.
Some of them are delete"able".
My Question: How can I delete these styles which I don´t need ore use!!!

Bernhard,
You do not need to post this twice.
Pages automatically includes certain styles like the heading and body style. These you can not delete, but you can change them.

Syncing styles in books, deleting

I have a book that is a collection of 15 100-page coffee table photo books I'm designing in parallel. They all sync to a master template, which has a few master pages and extensive paragraph and character styles. The master pages and all styles in the destination docs are derived entirely from the master.
Please tell me there's a way to have the destination docs' styles sync completely with the master, including deleting styles and master pages deleted in the master. I need all of the destination docs styles to be an exact mirror of the template whenever I sync. IND is such a brilliant program in general that it can't be so badly designed that this isn't possible, that there is no OPTION at least to delete styles and master pages in the destination when syncing. This is creating nightmares for me and making all of my work far more complicated and time-consuming than it needs to be.

So you need to ask yourself how your multi-document book became such a mess in the first place.
That's perhaps a bit out of line. I've been using Pagemaker/InDesign for 25 years now. It's not a mess any more than a typical website is a mess when you're working out the design. All I did was go back to my master and refine the styles and master pages, consolidating some of the styles, etc. It's very common in design to throw caution to the wind to some degree as you work things out, and then clean it up. The clean up part is not at all difficult when the tools are well designed.
Please keep in mind that us forum participants are unpaid volunteers who don't work for Adobe. Whether it's misguided thinking or not, we're trying to give something back to the community from which we've gotten a lot of help. Chances are if you're angry at the company or product because it disappoints or fails to fulfill an expectation, we're probably not too happy about the same situations.
As far as I know, PageMaker doesn't remove unused styles automatically; I didn't use it much, so perhaps I'm completely wrong.
The suggestion to file a formal feature request is a good one. Adobe products have a history of incorporating many of these requests in future releases, when practical, especially when there are many requests. The better you can describe the feature you want, the better the chance it has of becoming a reality.
It probably is possible to script what you're asking for. You might post a request on the scripting forum. Again, the better your description, the better its chances.

The template is a document in itself, it is not applied to an existing document whether it is a Pages document or a Word document converted to a Pages document.
You would need to either copy and paste content, using existing styles, or apply the styles to the converted Word document.
You can Import the Styles from an existing document and those imported Styles can be used to override the current document's styles:
Menu > Format > Import Styles
The process is simplified if the styles use the same names, otherwise you will need to delete the style you don't want and replace it with the one that you do want when asked, then the substitution is pretty straightforward.

Styles and CSX styles

I imported a Word 2007 doc into a new RH 7 HTML project, and
I'm grappling with styles that aren't in RH 7 css or htts and
weren't in the Word template, either.
For example, when I highlight a paragraph that was a BulList
paragraph (in Word), the RH HTML Formatting ribbon displays the
style as BULLISTCXSPMIDDLE.
How do I fix this? If I try to edit the styles, there is no
BULLISTCXSPMIDDLE listed in the Styles dialog. Further, RH
instructions for deleting a style (from the Styles dialog) state:
Click "X". There is no "X". Rather, when I highlight a style I want
to delete, the Delete button becomes unavailable.The RH Styles
dialog has a neat list of Character and Paragraph formatting...and
then "Other"...how do I relate what's in this dialog to the "stuff"
that shwos up in the Formatting ribbon?
Further,

I can't speak specifically to Word-to-RH styles, but when you
see a style in RH all in caps, that means that RH can't find it in
the style sheet or in topic styles. That's why you can't find it in
the style sheet, either.
It should be sufficient to highlight the paragraphs in
question and select the Normal style (or whatever style you want it
to be).
As for getting that BULLISTCXSPMIDDLE style to never show up
at all, I don't know about that one.

How do i keep my paragraph style list from growing without my permission?

Im trying to keep my Paragraph styles organized. Everytime I add a table into my pages document it adds a new header or body eventhough all the fonts in the table are already set up with the paragraph styles that are in the document. Also it wont let me delete the style so I have to rename it and i do so with putting zzz in front of it so it goes to the bottom of the list. unfortnately, i can not figure this out.

CSS font style in main template. How to remove or change...

Hi, made a boo boo the other day while messing with my spry menu bar from the main template. I was trying to change the font size on the sub-menu as the drop down had gone off the page. I was fooling around with it and inadvertantly changed/added several styles that were already being used on other pages throughout the site. For instance "style 19" used to be 24 pixels high and not in the main template. (right under spry assets styles.) Now it's there and every page that used this style is now showing VERY LARGE font as I somehow changed it to 113pixels. (type-o that I didn't realize was being saved and changing a style.)
If that made sense to anyone, what do I do now? Do I go to the main template and change the size to what I know they should be then update all the pages, leaving "redundant tags". Do I delete the style altogeter from the main template?..not sure what that would do.
and last, once I finally get it right, how do I upload these changes. Putting the main teimplate, css style sheet? Spry menu? all?

What I can do is actually go back to the page in question, and I can see the "old" style 18 and what the size should be, then see the new one. So I will be able to tell what the old size was. These styles affected are mainly for colored font/names under our caddy girls. Each one might have her name in size 24 pixel font, in a different color depending on the page design. Long story short, is all the fonts that were 18 or 19 are now wrong.. and some other styles have been messed up as well
Maybe you can help me with this one too? On 3 or 4 font styles I must have been playing with the spry menu bar and adjusting the size not realizing I was in percentage mode and not pixels. By the time I figured it out I had changed 4 styles to 12 and 13 %. So the font is tiny in D.W. Would I just delete these altogether, or change these to what pixel size they should be? Even though it will create a redundant font tag. (which I'm not too concerned about unless I need to be.) Or should I change them to 100%?
Hope you can make sense of the above. I REALLY appreciate it. Was going to make the font on "really" very big but my days of messing with fonts are over!!!!

Style sheet changes not appearing in RH10

Searching for an answer before I posted, I saw this question from a member named Pam about RH11 posted almost a year ago, but I don't see an answer. I'm hoping there is an answer!
After many years of working in RoboHelp and carrying on with inline styles, I'm now looking into changing over to style sheets. I've been tinkering with them in some test projects, and I'm having the same problem that Pam did. The process of creating and applying a style sheet is simple, as far as I can tell, yet I can't get the style sheet formatting to appear. It's in the HTML--I see the .css specified, and there are only heading tags and so on present instead of inline stuff--yet the fonts I've selected appear neither in the Styles and Formatting pod nor in the Design view of the topic. I searched Adobe for help and found this: ROBOHELP 10: Creating CSS for a Topic | Tech Comm Suite Highlights | Adobe TV. I did exactly the same steps, but my fonts and spacing do not change as they do in the video. They don't appear different, that is. When I go into the style sheet, my selections are in there; they're just not displayed on the screen. I compiled a chm file to see if by chance the changes might appear there, but no.
I tried this both with existing and new topics in a test copy of an existing project and with a brand new project created in RoboHelp that had none of my usual baggage. Any ideas?

That was because, as Amebr had picked up, you must have had Desktop setting in the media dropdown when you applied the style. The result is that if you are viewing in any less than 1024px, Arial will not be applied and you will get the browser default on the user's machine.
With media set to None, I defined h1 and p again using Rh's CSS editor and the following was appended.

margin-top: 14pt;
margin-bottom: 14pt;
margin-left: 0pt;
margin-right: 0pt;
page-break-after: avoid;

Go back to your real project and define your styles with media set to None. Take a copy of the exising CSS first for safety. Delete any styles with media rules applied.
Create the styles by right clicking and using CSS Editor. Clean up by right clicking and using HTML Editor (the css will open in Rh and you can work on it as if in a text editor.

I have updated certain styles in template now I need to updated those styles in source indd file.
Do we have any way to map the styles or do we can replace the styles from one indd doc to another is there possible.
Otherwise do we have any other simplest way in indesign.
