Delete After Import?

Now that I've moved all my movies from iPhoto to iMovie, I have a question: is there a 'delete after import' feature in iMovie 11 similar to that in iPhoto?
It seems like a major hassle to important several (or dozens) of clips, then have to manually delete them all from the camera after import.
Is there a workaround I'm missing?
Thanks!

Hi Michael

Just the pics in your camera roll that you imported. and yes you should delete them.

  • Pictures not deleted after import

When I import pictures from my camera (Olympus C300) and I want them to be removed after import, they are not removed from the camera. This behavior started after a clean install of Tiger.
Before it worked ok with Panther and iPhoto 5 and with an upgrade from Panther to Tiger.

    Hi Jan,
I think that info is kept in the Preference file.
Either drag the file to the desktop and launch iPhoto and see if it works, or just trash the file.
    Preference file
I strongly urge you not to use that feature. You never know what might go wrong in the download of your images and you could lose them if they are erased from the camera.

  • Automatic delete after import from iPhone

    Hello,
when I import pictures from iPhone directly to Aperture 3, I can not find a way the automatically delete the pics from iPhone after completion.
This is done in iPhoto very easily.
Anyone any idea, where / how to activate this option in Aperture 3?
I hope Aperture 3 is able to do that, otherwise it is a poor statement as Aperture should be some iPhoto prof....
    Thx in advance

Don't know the answer offhand (don't have an iPhone), but you might find it if you read through some of the [Importing Images chapter|http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapte r=4%26section=0] of the User Manual.
    Hope this helps...

  • IPhoto won't delete photos from camera after importing. It used to....

Hello...anybody have any thoughts on this issue? I always check the 'delete after importing' option when connecting camera and importing new photos. Recently, the photos have remained on the camera and I have to delete pictures from my camera manually instead of iPhoto doing this. It seems that after I upgraded to OS X 10.5 I noticed this issue. Needless to say if I forget to delete from the camera, iPhoto wants to import the old photos when I have new pics to import. Thanks for any help.
    Camera is an Olympus SLR.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
We've seen occasional reports of this with 10.5. Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
That said, experienced users do not recommend letting iPhoto delete the pics from your card. If there has been a problem with the transfer you won't know about it until after the erase is complete. It's a couple of seconds work to reformat the card using your camera.

  • Pics missing after import

I was importing pictures from my camera to iPhoto, the import finished....the pics were erased from my camera. Then iPhoto quit unexpectedly. When I go back into iPhoto my pictures that were just imported were no where to be found. Sad sad story.....can anyone think of a way to find them.....are they placed in any other location???
    Thanks for the help

    Katie:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Open the iPhoto Library package and see if there's a folder in there titled "Import" or "Importing". If there is look in side and see if there are any files in it. If so move to the desktop, launch iPhoto and import the contents of that photo. If those are your missing file you're done.
If not you may have to get a 3rd party file recovery application like MediaRECOVER to recover the deleted files from the camera's memory card. If your camera does not mount on the desktop you'll need to get a card reader. IMO using a card reader and not having iPhoto delete after import is the best way to go. I always let the camera reformat the memory card after uploading.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • When importing, de-select images I want removed from disk. After import they are still there?

When I take all the raw images from my card and put in a new folder on my desktop. I then move folder to my pictures folder on a MAC/lightroom 4.Then open up LR and select onlyy images I am interested in and (remove from disk) ones I don't want. Then import to lightroon, for some reason they are still in folder in pictures?

It is not very clear what you are exactly doing.
Did you import them all and want to delete after importing , then :
    The choice you get is:
    Remove ( from Lightroom) and
Delete from Disk,  it is only the latter that will delete them from your disk.
During import you can not delete not selected files.

  • Lost photos after import

    Hi,
iPhoto correctly recognized my memory card and started the import.
The 'Delete after Import' box was checked.
After import the photos were deleted off the card, but don't show up in the library.
The Last Import link shows photos that were added several months ago, so I'm thinking the library is corrupted.
Supporting this viewpoint is the fact that there are blank 'squares' where a photo should be, but is not there. Get Info shows the blank square is titled xxxx.jpg and has a size. However when I try to export it I get an error creating the file.
I believe these two issues are related.
    Thank you for any help!
    Regards,
    Greg

    Greg:
First, never have iPhoto delete the memory card. Why, you're experiencing the reason right now. That being said, make a backup copy if the library and then try rebuilding the library by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and following the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #4, 5 and 6.
If that doesn't work rebuild the library with iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory .

  • Iphone 6 videos aren't showing up in iPhoto after import

After importing tons of photos from my new phone to iphoto, I noticed that none of the videos are showing up. I deleted after importing, so they're no longer on my phone either. All my old videos from my iPhone 5 are showing up, just not the videos from my 6+. In Spotlight, I typed in h.264 and the videos are showing up and directing me to iPhoto, they're just not showing up there at all. What's going on? Thank you!

Disconnect the external drive, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter /Volumes/ as the folder's path, move all aliases out of this folder, and then reconnect the drive.

  • How do delete photos from iphone after import to new photos app?

With iphoto (or aperture which I own), after importing photos I was always asked if I wanted to remove the photos's from my phone. With the new photo's app I don't get that option, and I certainly don't want to delete 1200 photos by having to individually select each one on the phone. Any ideas?

You should ask on the forum that Apple told you to use for Beta software discussions. This isn't the place. The moderators will likely soon remove your post.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from automatically deleting photos from my camera after import?

I'm using iPhoto 11 version 9.2.3 and importing photos from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS35 via USB.
From what I can gather, iPhoto should prompt me after an import as to whether I want to delete the imported photos from the camera or not.
Instead, I get no option at all and iPhoto goes right ahead and deletes the imported photos. This is a problem as the camera is shared and used across a few Macs.
I can't find any options anywhere in iPhoto to prevent this behaviour. I've made sure that iPhoto is launched with the camera (I thought this might be the problem initially), but to no avail.
    Can anyone please help?

    Thanks Tom,
I fear that either I'm stupid or blind because I don't see that option in the Advanced pane either.  Here's what I have in Advanced:
    Enable this account
Include when automatically checking for new messages
Compact mailboxes automatically (this is greyed out)
Keep copies of messages for offline viewing (then a pull down menu):
All messages and their attachments (currently this is selected)
         All messages, but omit attachments
         Only messages that I've read
Don't keep copies of any messages
Check with your system administrator before changing any of the advanced options below:
         IMAP Path Prefix:
         Port:
         Authentication:
Use IDLE command if the server supports it (this is greyed out)
I see the option you're talking about on my older computer that's running Leopard, but not on the new one running Lion.
    Cheers,
    Bonnie

  • How do I get Lightroom to delete photos from my iPhone after importing them?

Lightroom 4 imports photos and videos from my iPhone and puts them where I want them to go, and names the directories the way I want. All good. But it also leaves the photos on the phone to be manually deleted. Is there some way to have it delete the photos after import?

    Not from Lightroom.

  • How to recover sony ARW files deleted by Aperture after importing?

I imported some Sony RAW photos (in .ARW format, shot by Sony Nex 6) from a SDXC card into Aperture library with my MacBook Pro, and as usual I let Aperture deleted the files on the SDXC card (i.e. I did not deleted the files using Finder).  Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the imported ARW files (as masters in the Aperture library) by Carbon Capy Cloner (I made a copy in the wrong direction after editing the photos).  Now I am trying to recover those ARW files.  I used several Photo recovery software but they do not recognize any deleted ARW files on the SD card (nor on my hard drive). The best result was from Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery software, which recognizes those deleted ARW files as NEF files but the size of each photo is only 32KB (it shows the photo in its preview).  I recovered them, but no software can open those 32KB NEF files.  It appears to me that Aperture somehow deleted the ARW files on the SD card in a way (very different from Finder deletion) that photo recovery software can't recognize them.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Yes I understand that trying to recover from my HD is more difficult, so my attention is on the card now.  In fact, I tried to use Stellar to recover from the HD as well and I got tons of other photos and non of them is ARW.
I have kept both the HD and the card not being used anymore (I stopped using it right after I made the copy in the wrong direction, and the card is not being used after Aperture deleted the photos), so the data should be there.  I tested with Stellar on a new card.  I shot some ARW photos and format the card on my NEX 6 camera, then try to recover them with Stellar.  Same result: no ARW files, only NEF files of size 32KB or less (the photos in the preview are correct).  Strange.  I tried Remo software, no ARW either, not even NEF files.  I guess I am using the wrong recovery software (although they advertise that they recover ARW files).  Is there any recovery software that DOES recover ARW photos shot by Sony NEX 6?

  • Delete from memory card after import

    Hi,
I'm a fresh Lightroom newbie, and I am missing how to delete pictures from a memory card as I am importing them into Lightroom. This seems a glaringly obvious feature, so it must be hiding somewhere.
The only options I can see in the "Import Photos" dialog are
    - Copy photos to a new location and import
    - Copy photos as Digital Negative (DNG) and import
There doesn't seem to be an option to delete files after import, just various ways to eject the card.
I've found one way if I choose "Import Photos from Disk" while in Lightroom, there I have a Move option, but why not from device? Every other photo importer has this.
    Thanks,
    Zak

Thanks for your responses. I'll go ahead and use "Import photos from disk" and change to my card reader. I personally had no problems in my years reading & immediately deleting files from memory cards. I had a few instances where I inadvertently deleted a fresh imported picture on the computer, I used undelete utilities on the card in these cases.
That said, I still think it would be a good feature. If the users want to do it (2 years of questions), just let them.
