Delete all traces of podcasts

I have a really annoying problem. When I sync my iPhone, under the 'podcasts' tab, it always lists 4 podcasts that I have already deleted, with the option of syncing them (obviously, since they're gone, it says it can't find the file). When I go to the 'podcasts' section of iTunes, nothing is listed; however, when I click 'settings' there, and click the drop-down menu for 'settings for:', it lists the four podcasts. (I assume this is why these same podcasts are appearing on my podcast pane for the iphone) I want to COMPLETELY erase any reference to these podcasts, so they don't keep popping up on my iPhone. I'm done with them -- how can I erase ALL traces of them from iTunes?

I can think of a couple of tricks that may or may not work. They are in no particular order.
1) Try re-subscribing to the offending podcasts and then properly unsubscribing using the button at the bottom of the podcast page in iTunes.
2) Trash you iTunes preferences. You should be able to find in in either the Library folder or the ~/Library folder. It's called, if I remember correctly, itunes.apple.com.plist. Trashing that will delete some of your settings (e.g. your preferred import settings). If you want to be really careful, just move it to the trash and see if that works.
3) Have you, through the finder, looked in your iTunes Media folder, in the Podcast folder to see if there's anything there?
Best of luck.

  • Does Time Machine Ever Delete All Traces of a File?

I have a question.  I have read up on Time Machine on various articles, posts, and documents across the web and I am having a hard time understanding exactly how time machine deletes files.
When a disk is full, does Time Machine ever make the decision to delete the last copy or version of a file, therefore completely erasing it off the disk forever?  I know that Time Machine deletes older versions of files, but will it ever completely delete the last, final backup of a file to make space?  If so, I can't imagine using Time Machine as a true piece of backup software.  It seems like it would be useful in restoring your computer in an emergency, but as far as backing up files, it seems that it would be catastrophic, because it may choose to delete the last remaing version of a file to make space and you end up losing that file for ever.
    Here is an example:
    I create a file X.doc
    Time Machine backs it up.
    I modify X.doc
Time Machine backs up the copy, keeping both the original and the new copy on the backup drive.
    I modify X.doc yet again.
Time Machine drive runs out of space. Time Machine deletes the oldest version of X.doc and backs up the new copy.
I create 10 more files unrelated to X.doc
Will Time Macine remove all remaining versions of X.doc to make space for the 10 new files???
I hope I am making sense.

The worst TM can do is delete all your older copies of files, not the most recent version.
If the drive is full, then it can't accept any more files period.
If you had a full 100GB boot drive and a 100GB TM drive, the TM drive would be a copy of the boot drive with no room for saved states.
If you changed a file on the full boot drive, then TM updates that file on it's full drive, there will be no copy of the previous version of that file.
TimeMachine makes for a poor pernament backup system, because lets say you do a major files addition to your boot drive, TM backs that up and can go ahead and delete files you realized you accidentially deleted just a few short days ago.
It's better than nothing and works ok for newbies, but more seasoned types use many backup methods in addition to TM, because corruption creep is possible with TM as well as malware as it's hooked up so often, in a lot of cases all the time.

  • Delete all (Select All .. Delete) Podcasts

I have over 200 podcasts that I want to delete from my iPad.  These 200+ instances are daily podcasts from the same show, so there appear in the same list.  There does not appear to be a way to delete all of these podcasts at once, e.g. Select All -> Delete in the iPad interface.
Workaround:  I can connect the device to a computer and delete all of the podcasts with iTunes, but this is a PITA.
This iOS functionality appears to be the same for iPhone and iPod Touch, i.e. can't do it.
    Am I correct?

    Hi knapper78,
There are several ways of resolving this issue, but we are always up for alternatives, thanks

  • URGENT!Can anyone tell me how to completely delete all data of an app from an Apple ID?

I am really stuck here.My brother needs help deleting ALL traces of some inappropriate apps that he wasnt supposed to download from his Apple ID.Now our mom is very angry and stressed out and I really hate it when she is angry,so can anyone help me?

That is going to depend on where the application is stored...
If it's Bloatware (e.g. Verizon Navigator, Bing, etc...) you will need Root permission on your phone to remove it.
If it's something you installed from the Google Play Store, then all you will need to do is open the Play store, select the Menu button, select "My Apps" and then open the app.  This should give you the "Uninstall" button.
    Hope this helps
    Chief

  • Deleted ALL podcasts

I meant to delete just some podcasts and stupidly hit command-a and selected all of them (thinking I was just inside one show). I deleted all podcast audio and all traces of the podcasts I was subscribed to. Everything is sitting in my trash bin. Is there a way to return everything to some semblance of normal? Thank you.

Drag the files to the desktop first, then drop them back into iTunes. For some reasons you cannot go from Trash directly to iTunes.
You may find there is a Subscribe button alongside once they are imported, but just press that and all should be well.

  • After I watch a podcast I delete it. When I go back in the next day it shows 500-600 episodes I have to delete manually. So 2 questions....  Is there a way to stop this from happening and is there a way to delete all. This is getting frustrating.

Had all these issues.  Bit the bullet and downloaded the Downcast App ($1.99).  Much better expereince and a lot more features.  Sad.

  • On the itunes 11 i refreshed my podcast all the prior podcast I've heard are now set to download and i can't find a way to delete them

On itunes 11 I refreshed my podcasts all the prior podcasts that I've already listened to are on my list to download. You used to be able to delete right off the list but I cant seem to do that now.

James Ward4  Thanks for your suggestion.  I have tried the video app and it appears to have some, but not all of the downloads which are viewable without wifi, so I will now review the download process and see if I can capture the missing episodes.  Thanks again.

  • ITunes upgrade deletes all podcast subscriptions

I just upgraded to 9.2, and afterwards, all of my podcast subscriptions had been deleted, which means that I have to go re-subscribe to them all. This isn't the first time this has happened with an upgrade. Talk about a royal pain! Is there something I'm supposed to back up before upgrading to avoid this?
    Thanks.

    Hey The Zach
I would check what is set to sync in the Podcast tab in iTunes when the iPhone is plugged in. There may be a setting that may be removing it when you sync your iPhone with iTunes.

  • Itunes deletes all podcasts when I sync

I was manually managing my podcasts, but when I synce my ipod, all of my podcasts are deleted, and when I try to copy them back manually, some of them won't copy. No error messages, they just don't go. I can get the problem podcasts on by letting itunes automatically sync my podcasts, but I do not want itunes to handle the sync automatically. The first 3 days after installing itunes and transferring my library to the new pc, everything was fine, then itunes started deltimg my podcasts. After a 4 days of that, it stopped letting me manually copy podcasts to the ipod (through itunes).

One thing to check, look at your podcast default options and make sure they are set to keep all the episodes.

You could also try control-A, then right-click and choose "Do Not Auto Delete"

How do I remove all traces of  'album'? I do not want artwork, blank place holders, titles or artists sorted by album? I just want my music listed by title, artist or genre.

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • I tunes has deleted all the songs from my HDD literally as I watched??!!

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Thought my PC was protected from this kind of invasion??????
All my music/videos and Purchases have literally dissapeared from itunes folder and hard drive. It was there half an hour ago and all that happened is:
I forgot my password. It is even more serious because I was already signed in and downloading a video and was only asked for my password when i wanted to view my account whilst the download was taking place (Itunes must have remembered my password and logged me in automatically because I did not sign in to download the song but it was happening). Anyway...i went through the password reset procedure and returned to itunes to find an empty area where all my music/podcasts/purchases/videos should be.
(I have not plugged my ipod today in at this stage)
So I look in the music files for my music and it has all gone!! everything!!
I then looked at the empty itunes and it said there are two downloads pending. one was a video i had already downloaded successfully into itunes last week and one was the video i was downloading today when the problem ocurred.
so next I went into my account and looked at purchase history and it does not show any purchases other than the one that was downloading today. This is despite me purchasing 3 songs and videos since Christmas??
All my other history and account information is still there.
I tried importing the itunes library file left in the my music folder but was told I had no privilages.
Next I rebooted PC but no change
Next i plugged in my ipod and it came up with the ipod was synced to a different itunes library do i want to sync and replace. I said no
    I removed ipod quickly
So I still have all songs/videos and podcasts on my ipod but an empty music folder on my hard drive and an empty itunes library that thinks it does not belong to my ipod.
That is a massive amount of corruption to my PC in a space of 30 mins. could you please explain what you have done to my itunes and more importantly the mechanism that allows your program to enter my hard drive and delete all the music in front of my eyes??. Can i restore the library using the files on my ipod and what has happened to my purchases in the 'my account section of itunes'
This is obviously very serious and VERY urgent as it touches on hacking my PC unless i have missed something???
Couild someone please get back to me ASAP with ideas/help
    Thank you
    Alan
Home PC Windows XP Athlon XP3200 2gig Ram

I have found a solution that works 100% with my ipod 5th generation 30gig video with the following symptoms:
a). Ipod has all my music on it along with videos podcasts etc etc…
b). the My documents/My music/itunes files library etc are all suddenly empty on the HDD and all music/video in folder has gone. I even ran searches of the whole HDD and all music has gone.
c). When ipod is plugged in you get the message ‘this ipod is synced with another itunes – do you want to – ‘sync and replace’ or ‘copy purchases from this ipod to this itunes’ or ‘CANCEL’
If this is not the problem with your ipod then another solution may be best for you. If it is ….please read on. PLEASE READ ALL TEXT BEFORE ATTEMPTING.
    1. go to ‘my computer’ and then to the tabs at the top: tools – folder options – view and in hidden files and folders make sure that show hidden files and folders is checked.
    2. leave the my computer window open so it can be viewed.
    3. plug in you ipod and it will try to sync and give you the options mentioned in intro
    4. Make sure you press cancel and the ipod should try to sync for a couple of seconds then the ‘do not disconnect’ symbol on the ipod should stop flashing and your normal menus should appear on the ipod.
    5. The ipod name should now be in the itunes folders on the LH side of itunes as usual. your itunes folders (perhaps purchases may show up)should be empty due to the fault.
    6. click on the ipod to get the status and capacity screen and on this screen check the ‘disk use’ button.
    7. the ipod should be seen in the ‘my documents’ folder if it is not disconnect and let it try to sync again but make sure you do not let it.
    8. Once ipod drive is seen in ‘my computer’ minimise itunes (do not close or drive may disappear)
    9. Go to the itunes directory on the Windows machine (My Music/ itunes by default) and delete the XML file and the ITL file which is the library database installed when you hooked up the iPod.
    10. With those files deleted the itunes library is now empty as it should be for this process.
    11. in ‘my computer, right click over the ipod drive and click ‘explore’ Find the folder called iPod Control it will appear to be transparent as it was a hidden folder
    12. Copy that folder to anywhere on the PC which will take a while if you have a lot of songs. you may as well copy it into ‘my music next to the itunes folder for neatness. Even though it appears to be filled with many files with nonsensical names this is in fact the music library on the iPod.
    13. When this copy is complete right click on the coppied file and go to ‘properties and uncheck ‘hidden’ and ‘read only’ tabs and the folder should then appear as a normal folder
    14. Maximise iTunes and go to the top tabs and go EDIT/PREFERENCES/ADVANCED and make sure that ‘keep itunes music folder organised’ and ‘copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library’ are selected.
    15. This is important to get iTunes to organise the songs using the ID3 tags in the song files you just copied over.
    16. Go to ‘my music’. If new XML and ITL files have appeared delete them now .
    17. Now in itunes go to FILE/ADD folder to library and Next, select the coppied ipod control folder from ‘my music’. That's it- you will now see iPod songs copied to itunes desktop and nicely organised and in the iTunes database as they were before the fault. NOTE this can take a while
    18. Once completed restart computer first and check library is stable and all songs etc have restored and are stable). you will notice a new xml and library file have appeared in ‘my music’
    19. Connect the ipod once you are happy the scontent you want is back in the library on itunes.
    20. This time select ‘sync and erase’ You will see your ipod be emptied (GULP!) but then itunes should start to restore all the songs etc from the library to your ipod. again this will take time.
    21. Once complete you should be back to normal and you can decide whether to store the ipod control folder in ‘my music’ somewhere as a backup or delete it
I really hope this helps but It worked for my 5th gen ipod 30 gig video and so should work for you. If it fails for any reason I cannot be held responsible and you do this at your own risk.

  • How to delete ALL accounts in preparation to sell computer?

I'm selling a Mac (five of 'em actually), and after doing a fresh OS (Tiger v10.4.3) install, followed by all system and app updates, I now want to delete all user accounts and traces thereof -- after I have cash in hand, of course. This so the Apple Setup Assistant starts on boot, and the buyer gets a fresh machine, including the lovely "Welcome to Apple" video/music extravaganza.
I know I've read instructions for doing this somewhere, but can now find no trace of them. Any help would be appreciated.
    iMac iSight 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

From a note at MacOSXHints on how to "Make OS X re-run the initial setup assistant":
    1.Boot into single-user mode (command-S during startup)
    2. Once the command-line prompt appears, type the following:
    mount -uw /
    cd /private/var/db/netinfo
    mv local.nidb local.old
    rm ../.AppleSetupDone
    exit
When you hit RETURN after typing exit, OS X will restart and the setup assistant will launch automatically. So if you've somehow messed up your primary OS X user, this is a good fix that may get you up and running again, even if re-running the OS X installer does not.
Using that as a basis, then in your case, since you've installed the OS, you should only have one user, boot each machine with a bootable external FWHD (or mount each to a good machine in TDM), launch the Terminal app, and then do these commands:
    sudo cd /Volumes/<machine's name>/private/var/db/netinfo/
    sudo mv local.nidb local.nidb.old
    sudo cd /Volumes/<machine's name>/
    sudo rm -R /Users/<username>
    sudo rm ../.AppleSetupDone
