Delete and erase all files
I have just started to use my iPad and when trying to sync with PC I had difficulty so I erased and deleted all files to start fresh and to see if this would help. Now when I connect usb to PC i get the message that this ipad cannot be used because the Apple mobile device is not switched on. When I go back to my iPad all I can get is a picture of my usb pointng to Itunes. Anyone help as to how to restore basic settings in and iPad that is fully charged but won't open any more that the diagram to connect to iTunes? Ivan Gordon
Hi and welcome......
Try restarting the iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
You may need to restore the iPad as new, instructions here.

You won't lose any iTunes content such as photos, videos, apps, etc. That is all stored in iTunes.

Do not concern yourself about the backups. They will be deleted automatically if space is needed for other data:

I lost my hard drive in my old computer, replaced the computer, merge didn't transfer the I-Tunes files, I have them on my I-pod, any way to get my songs back in my computer w/o deleting and reloading all the CD's?
What is the make and model of this recorder? Do you have that information available?
You can still use iTunes to transfer and manage your recorded audio.

I bought a new laptop and used Windows Easy Transfer cable and moved all files from one computer to another. I installed iTunes and found my iTunes music Library. However, when I plug in my iPod it says it is already synced with another iTunes Library.
I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over. Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over? I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another. Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

PC crashed. iTunes was on it and now all files are gone. All music both purchased and copied from CDs is on iPad. How do I get the music back onto the PC without using the cloud. Afraid if sync will wipe all music from iPad.
You would need to download iTunes on comp and download purchases again (you don't have to pay again) and upload your CDs again IF you sync your iPad to your computer it will erase everything

Erase all files from OSX 10.6.8
I'm giving my old MacBook to my daughter but want to erase all files, history - everything except programs. How do I proceed?
First backup all Applications on a USB drive. Connect it to the Mac; open the Finder and browse it to /Applications. Select all and CMD+C. Open your drive and CMD+V. Then insert the Mac OS X Installation DVD in the Mac and switch it off. Boot it pessing C and from Disk Utility format your drive. Then reinstall Mac OS X and copy the Applications from the Drive to the /Applications folder.

Difference between "restore" and "erase all content and settings"?
Hello,
I was wondering what is the difference between "Restore" on itunes and "Erase all content and settings" on iphone?
Is it the same and if yes why does it take longer to "Erase all content and settings" on iphone? The restore only deletes all the data and reinstalls the iPhone Operating System, but someone can still carve out deleted information if they know what they are doing. The erase all content and settings will delete and overwrite everything on the iPhone so it is impossible to even extract any data from the iPhone.
Personally I've only used the erase all content and settings when I've had to return my iPhone to Apple for technical difficulties or when I've sold an iPhone to someone else. There is no reason to do this method if you are simply reinstalling the Operating System for yourself. -
My sister bought a 16GB iPod touch 5 and went thru all the steps to set up but then realized it didn't have a camera. So we clicked reset and erase all contents and settings. This does mean her credit card info is erased right?? Thanks for your help.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you erase an iPod touch, your information, apps and settings are deleted and iOS is back to factory settings. If she wanted an iPod touch with camera, she should return it after erasing it. Note that the iPod touch doesn't store her credit card information -
I setup my iCloud account on my iPhone 5 with the wrong e mail address, and I don't remmber the password, I reset my tel and erase all the information on my iPhone in order to try to set up a new iCloud account but when I restart I have a problem agaIn , they ask me to put again the old iCloud user account and password, what I can do in order to start the phone when I don't have the correct e mail and I don't remmber the passcode.?
I have the same problem as the emails go to my iCloud account that I cannot access!!! I cannot answer the security questions as someone else must have set up my iCloud account. Nothing seems to work. It would be great if someone has some ideas as what can be done to recover the situation?

I have erased my Ipad remotely thinking it was stolen. It has now been returned, but I don't want to switch it on and erase all information. Can I reverse the erase? If not, how do I restore the info?
You can't reverse the erase.

I have just upgraded to Firefox 8.0.1 on may MacBook (10.6.8) and now all files I download from my Outlook Web app labeled attachment.ashx, not as they were originally sent (.docx, .pdf, etc). How do I change this back?
I'm going to back up to Firefox 7 next. I'm getting the drift that 8.0.1 and/or flash on 8.0.1 are unstable.
I'll let you know if that solves this problem.
NOPE. This had no effect. -
Is there a fix to deleting already deleted address book contact, from messages search? i.e. when you type in say letter c in messages search, all contact with a c, past already deleted and current all appear? How do you make the old deleted ones appear?
only way is to restore the phone as new. OR wait until IOS 7 comes out in the fall.

Does "reset and erase all content" update iOS?
Hi guys,
My girlfriend has an iPhone 4 that has been giving her a lot of problems lately. I want to restore it but I don't want to update it to iOS 6 just yet. Instead of restoring through iTunes, if I restore via settings>general>"reset settings and erase all content" will that restore the phone WITHOUT updating it to iOS 6? Please let me know. ThanksI understand that my chances of having issues are very slim. But articles like the one below make me nervous because if i update and have issues, Apple doesnt let me downgrade, meaning we would be stuck with crappy battery life and literally no way to fix it. Not a position I want to be in. I understand that the internet can blow things way out of portortion, but still.
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2012/100212-iphone-battery-262963.html
I understand that article refers to 6.0, but most of what i have read has said that people with battery issues havent seen it get better with 6.1 Thats why i was hoping to see a statistic of those affected. I just would hate to pull the trigger and have her battery die on her every afternoon. Just because 300 million are running iOS 6 doesnt mean 300 million are running it issue free. Any amount of them could be having trouble, but you would never know, because thanks to Apple, you CANT downgrade. -
How do i reset and erase all content settings when i dont know my restriction password
How do I reset and erase all content without knowing a restriction passcode
You can't. You have to get into settings in order to erase all content and settings. You have to restore the devics using iTunes and you have to restore as new or if you restore the backup, you will just be restoring the restrictions code that you can't remember.
Do not backup the iPad since you will not be able to use it.

I don't have the original laptop my iphone was set up on. I have backed up all my data on icloud. If I sync with my new laptop and erase all my contents(restore to factory settings), can I then get it all from icloud?
