Delete archived emails

Hi
I have used thunderbird a long time now but I changed jobs recently and it wont let me delete the archived emails, these are not in my InBox but in the memory.
I have tried deleting trash and trash.msf, I tried reinstall, I tried back up with new files only but it keeps reinstalling all my emails from 2006 they dont show in veiw but do when I search for something.
They are now causing me to think of moving over to using outlook. <<<--- sad day
any help would be appreciated
thanks

You can compact all folders immediately:
* File > Compact folders
But you then mention:
'' but it keeps reinstalling all my emails from 2006 they dont show in veiw but do when I search for something. ''
It is not reinstalling all emails because you would see then either being downloaded and showing up in the Inbox.
But if you perform a 'Search', can you click on one of the items and actually display the email?
It may well be that the only place there is a record will be in the global search database that was complied when you had those emails, so the search might show something, but you may not actually be able to read them because they do not exist.
Clear the global search database.
Make hidden files and folders visible:
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
In Thunderbird
* Help > Troubleshooting Information
* click on 'Show folder' button
* a new window opens showing Profile Folder.
* '''Close Thunderbird now - this is important.'''
* look for and delete this file : '''global-messages-db.sqlite'''
* Close window - top right X
* Restart Thunderbird.
A new empty global database file will be produced.
Report back on results.

  • Recovery of deleted archived emails

I inadvertantly deleted my archived emails.....is there a way to recover them?

    Hey guys,
Ever since the Postini migration to Google Vaults, whenever we recover deleted emails it will be in an .mbox format instead of .PST.
We've been looking for ways to access this .mbox format but would like to find out from the community on the best ways to regain access to those emails.
(PS: tried some .mbox viewers but those allow read only access)
    Thanking in advance.

  • Mail deleted a current inbox and restored an old deleted inbox. It won't restore from Time Machine, and I'm missing archived emails from the old account. I'm pretty sure there is other stuff missing, but it's hard to tell. Any ideas why it would do this?

Our Mac was working fine last Monday, then Tuesday morning one of our current inboxes was gone, and an old, archived inbox was restored--twice. Other than some trouble-shooting on Tuesday, we've pretty much left things alone as we were busy doing other stuff.
I tried restoring the files from Time Machine, but it didn't work. I followed plisk restore instructions--nothing. It's a mess. We have no idea what would have caused this. We're above average users--we weren't mucking about with anything. It was just so strange.
I went back into Time Machine, and it just makes no sense that I can't restore anything. We're now missing important emails--nothing too tragic, but still a pain in the butt. Thankfully the current inbox that was somehow deleted had a back-up on our email server, but the archived/deleted inbox file that was magically restored had all the archived emails that we kept deleted.
    Any ideas would be wonderful.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk.

  • Deleting vs Archiving emails on iPad?

On my iPad, when I try to delete certain emails, it only gives me an Archive option. How do I enable Delete instead of Archive?

Go into Settings - Mail - choose the account - scroll down in the pop up window and choose Advanced.  Change 'Move discarded messages into' to Deleted Mailbox.
BUT - is this gmail you are talking about?
If so this change may not stick, and you will have to log onto your gmail account through a web browser and change the settings there.

  • Deleting Old Emails In Mail

I have a huge archive of emails from 2001 to 2004 stored in Mail which I can now safely delete to free up some space.
How can I delete these old emails in 'lumps' rather than laboriously delete them one by one?

You can delete your emails one mailbox at a time.
Select the mailbox you want to delete. At the bottom of the mail window, under the list of mailboxes, there is a menu with a little cog wheel. Choose delete from this menu. This deletes the mailbox you had selected.

  • Can't delete certain emails in Outlook 2007

I work at a help desk and was presented with this issue that I can't figure out.
At our company when someone receives a voicemail you can have it attached to an email and sent to the person receiving it.  I got a call from one of our employees that can't delete the email with the voicemail attached to it.  If she has the message
highlighted and presses the delete key or right-clicks and selects Delete nothing happens, no error message, nothing.  If she tries to move the message to another folder she gets the message 'Cannot move the item.  The item cannot be moved.
It was either moved, already deleted or access was denied'  The message still shows in her inbox so it doesn't appear to have been moved anywhere.
I also had her sign into Outlook Web Access and delete the message there and she got the same error message.
She can hold down shift and then delete the message but that will permanently delete the item, which she doesn't want to do.  She can't even move it to an archive file if she wanted to.
This just started happening recently when we upgraded from Win XP to Win 7, but we had Office 2007 on both so that didn't change. We have Exchange 2010.
I have made sure that Cached Exchange Mode is off, I have also deleted and recreated her mail profile.  She can delete or move other messages with and without attachments just fine.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The workaround is to use Cached Exchange Mode or "Shift + Delete", as the user doesn't want to delete the message permanently, using Cached Exchange Mode is preferred.
Based on my research, this issue is more Exchange 2010 related, and you mentioned the user also got the error from Outlook Web Access. This issue occurs after Exchange 2010 Service Pack 2 RU6 or Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3 is installed.
To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
2803727 Description of Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3
I hope the information is helpful.

  • If I delete an email on my iPhone, will it also be deleted in gmail?

If I delete and email on my iPhone, will it also be deleted in gmail? If so, how does the iPhone handle the "archive" feature of gmail? I'm worried that it will download all of the archived emails because they aren't in the trash and then I will delete them on my iPhone to make room and I won't have access to those emails anymore.
Can someone explain what happens to the emails to me?
    Thanks.

I believe if you configured your iPhone as per the Gmail instructions (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=77702 - also look at the recommended client settings in step 8) it archives the message so it still appears in "All Mail" in Gmail. You would need to move it to "Trash" on the iPhone (I think) to permanently delete it...

  • IOS 5 update lost archive email in outlook 2007

After updating to IOS 5, all my archive emails are missing (from Archive inbox).
Not syncing with icloud (XP user), syncs with computer only.

All my POP account mail messages and sent messages on my 3GS iPhone were lost when I upgraded to iOS5. Luckily I have anything important stored on my desktop. I didn't seem to lose pictures, contacts, mail settings, or game info. But I don't have many games.
I experimented a bit this morning. I made a backup by pressing control when clicking on my device in the iTunes sidebar. I unplugged my phone and then I deleted a few of my new messages as well as a few podcasts. Then I plugged the phone in to iTunes and restored. The podcasts came back. The mail messages didn't.
So it looks to me like Apple is not including mail messages in backups. I would have sworn that they were included in earlier backups or at least earlier versions of the operating system.
I don't know of an easy way (any way) to create a good backup before upgrade or to restore those messages.

  • IPhone 5 - deleting individual emails

I have configured my new phone with 3 accounts. At the bottom I see a flag, a folder a box a return arrow and write. If I am scrolling through invididual emails, at first I clicked the box and I had the option of delete, archive and cancel. I deleted some junk. Now, the delete options no longer appears? If I go back to my inbox and click edit at top right, I can click several emails and then select move and trash. That's fine, but when you are scrolling through seeing what's what, it'd be nice to delete right there and I see no option to do that. Phone is one day old.

Nope! No trash can. Tap edit doesn't work. I happen to be in the Gmail account now and I see L to R a flag, folder with a down arrow, a file box, a left pointing arrow and a compose.  Earlier, I could have sworn when I hit the box icon, it had a delete (red) archive and cancel option. Now I only see two. It is as if I deleted my "delete" if that is possible. No trash can. If I go into Outlook Exchange I see the trash can. If I go into "all inboxes" I don't see anything until I tap on one. I get the trash can with Outlook and none with Gmail. Can't tell with iCloud, I don't have anything in there yes. I guess I should try that. It appears to be a Gmail issue.

  • How to delete archive mail from ipad mini

How do you delete archive mail on a mini ipad?

If this is part of a gmail account (not an Apple email account), then all "deleted" email goes to the archive box.
go to settings->mail contacts calendars -> choose your email account -> and turn archive messages to off.

  • Where is my archived email?

I keep accidentally archiving my emails, but they just disappear so is archiving the same as deleting? If so, why no confirmation?
    I have Gmail account.

You actually should archive emails to clear out your inbox. It is not the same as deleting, but rather it removes them to the "All Mail" folder.
To ee mails in folders other than Inbox, Click on the Email Account listed below the inboxes in the left pane. You will see all of your gmail account folders listed there. Tap All Mail to see your archived mails.

Not sure about yahoo, but for gmail, I done the following:
Set up using Exchange on iPhone, it'll keep prompting for password.  On PC use captcha option, log in to gmail account from PC after completingg captcha option, enter password on iPhone.
See how that goes for gmail, let us know.
Hopefully someone will have fix for yahoo.
