Delete bootcamp assistant?

I am clearing out old files and programmes/apps and come across bootcamp assistant. I have cannot delte as it says 'it is needed by OSX'. I do not have bootcamp installed, i do however have VMware fusion. When i go into disk utility there is no sign of any partition of anykind, so i am wondering how i get rid of this bootcamp assistant? any ideas ? Thanks in advance.

Bootcamp Assistant is just a program used to create a Bootcamp partition if you ever want to install Windows in a Bootcamp partition. just leave Bootcamp Assistant alone. It is part of the operating system.

You can copy it from another Mac that has it. Do you have any friends or co-workers with Macs?

  • I want to get rid of my bootcamp partition but ='( i accidently deleted bootcamp assistant and now dont know how to delete partition any where i can re-dowload assistant plz helppppppp

I know u need assitant to get rid of parititon but i dont have it so what do i do

Personally I would use Pacifist from Chralessoft http://www.charlessoft.com/ to reinstall the BootCamp Assistant from your OSX Installation disc and afterwards running the latest Combo-Updater for your OSX.
The best way is to use the BootCamp Assistant again which should give you the option to remove the made Windows partition and revert back to one OSX volume.
After that's done a reboot of your Mac might be advisable.
Only if that's not working (whatever the reason) :
    1) boot your Mac from your OSX install DVD
    2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
    3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
    4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
    5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
    6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
    7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
    After that's done successfully
    8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
    9) Quit Disk Utility
    10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
Since you are 'fumbling' with your OSX partition you should consider having/making a backup of it before trying the a.m. procedure. Just in case.
A Disk Repair with Disk Utility is not doable for an OSX volume from which you have booted your Mac.
Boot from the OSX Install DVD to repair your OSX on the harddisk.

  • My MacBook Pro encounters an error when partitioning for loading windows using Bootcamp Assistant. I deleted the partition that was there in order to upgrade to Bootcamp 5 but now I am struggling to get Bootcamp 5 to complete the job. Help please.

I am struggling to Partition my MacBook Pro using Bootcamp 5, can someone help, please. I previously had successfully loaded Windows 7 running Bootcamp 4 on the same machine. When I upgraded to Windows 8 I started encountering problems. My trackpad would not work and it required me to load Bootcamp 5" as I was running 32 bit this is not supported by Bootcamp 5 I had to completely delete the previous partition, but now I can't repartition as it goes halfway and says an error has been encountered and Bootcamp cannot partition this drive.
I do not know how to defragment the drive in Apple as I can in windows nor can I clean it up to maybe get everything in neat clusters, maybe somebody can help me solve this problem.

Sorry Bobthefisherman, this was not helpful. I had already gone through these pages before coming to you. What I have discovered however is that when Bootcamp Assistant deleted the partition, it did not create a single volume but created three partitions instead which maybe the reason why it cannot create the new part ion parameters I am asking it crate. So I took it to the geniuses at Apple who suggested that I reformat the drive and reload everything again! and this might solve the problem. We'll all know whether this is helpful once it finishes the formatting of the hard drive. This process is taking a very long time to complete so I am leaving it overnight for it to complete. I will keep you updated on progress. I am also told that Apple is struggling with Windows 8 drivers and I may not be able to use that, so I am going back to Windows 7 even though I was beginning to like windows 8 very much.

  • Is bootcamp assistant not working in Mntn Lion?

I'm trying to run Bootcamp Assistant (for the first time ever) in 10.8 and it is not playing ball.
The download process seems extremely slow, it's wasted two blank DVDs by attempting to write to them then giving up and returning an error.
    So, I tried again with a properly formatted flash drive, it returned a message saying;
"Could not complete the task; Windows support software is currently not available on the Software Update server" (or something to that effect).
What gives? It's just not happening for me...

Yeah I too just upgraded from Snow Leopard and to my horror saw Front Row was missing. I am so p**sed at Apple. I used it all the time, especially at night lazing off on the bed watching my itunes media or music, I thought that was half the point of having a huge 27" screen so you could sit far back and view your media with the remote. Fair enough if they feel they dont want to improve or maintain it, but why delete it? Why couldnt they just leave it as was and allow its fans to continue using it?
Not to mention my mac is now running at a snails pace, freezing and beachballing for every task resulting in me having to order more memory so all in all this stupid upgrade has cost me over €125 I didnt have.
Anyways I ended up trying Plex, seems a good alternative. Not as simple to use and remote just stops working in it every so often causing you to reboot but itll have to do. But it is free and worth a try.
Really wish I had read up on Lion now!!!

  • Should I defragment disk after deleting BootCamp ?

    1. I made a mistake - installed Windows on Mac via Boot Camp (Now I know that I won't need Windows anymore).
    2. Then I deleted Windows and restored Boot Camp via BootCamp assistant. Hopefully.
    3. To restore the normal boot speed I did PRAM reset
(Turn it on, immediately after the display turns gray, press and hold Command + Option + P + R. Continue holding until you've heard the system chime 3 times.)
4 Now. Should I optimize Mackintosh HD drive like disc defragmentation ? Since what happened is that by removing the boot camp partition, it has greatly altered the "optimization" of your mac.

Yes. I have restored to one partition Mackintosh HD drive.
So. As far as the idea of cloning internal to an external drive and then restoring it back is concerned. Is there any special procedure for that ? Can I do that on one Mac or will I need another one ?
Unless you decide to clone frequently just use Disk Utility (DU) to make your clone:
    1. Start up from your Snow install DVD by holding down C when starting up.
    2. Choose your language and use the menus at the top of the next screen to start DU.
    3. Start DU;
    4. Drag your internal volume to the source box;
    5. Drag your external partition (or volume) to the destination box;
    6. Choose Erase Destination (if you are forced to do so to restore); and
    7. Click restore.
    8. Test your clone to make sure it is bootable.
It will take an hour, more or less. Then, reverse the process to get your OS X install "compacted" on your internal.

  • Bootcamp Assistant... Trying to Install and STUCK

Please help!!!! I spent half of the day today trying to install windows via bootcamp on my mac and am completely stuck.  I have gotten no where.
I have a iMac 27 inch late 2013 with 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB memory, 10.10.2 Yosemite. I’ve got more than 600 GB free space.  I am trying to install windows 8.1 via the disks.
I followed the instruction manual for bootcamp located here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf although it seems like it’s a bit old because it talks about software update off the apple menu.  It is made for windows 8.  I also followed this: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468.
I have searched many others that asked this question and have tried their suggestions but I am still stuck.
Here are the steps I took:
Made my own ISO from the 64 bit windows 8 disk.
Opened bootcamp, selected all 3 of the boxes – downloaded the updates, etc.
Partitioned the drive so that there is 199gb dedicated to Windows.
It then gets stuck on the partitioning disk screen.  It looks like it’s 100% done on the status bar as soon as I push install, but then nothing else happens.
I had previously gotten past this screen, booted to windows, and when I tried selecting the partition to install windows on, it gave me an error message: “Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.” I tried clicking “format” but that didn’t help.  I read a post where a person recommended to partition the drive via Disk Utility instead. I tried that but then got a new error…. So I used the bootcamp assistant to put back to one single partition and remove everything I did.  I deleted the data on the USB drive and started over.   Here I am now – stuck on the bootcamp screen trying to partition the disk.
When I go to disk utility, it only shows one partition with my full 1 TB of storage.
Also, if you are kind enough to answer, please take me step by step because I am great at following instructions but don’t know how to do this off-hand.  J

Okay - I figured it out!  I repaired the disk in Disk Utility and then just selected the third box.  That allowed it to get past where it was stuck and then the whole install went smoothly.

  • Mavericks, Bootcamp Assistant and Windows XP

    Hi There,
    I recently installed Mavericks on a MBP mid-2010, 2.4 i5 with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
I was running Windows XP on the Bootcamp partition previously (with Snow Leopard) and i'm having problems restoring the disco to a single volume.  When I ran Bootcamp Assistant, it had a checkbox for installing/removing Windows 7 or later...not XP.
The first time I tried using BCA it failed.  I'm running it again and it seems to be stuck on around 25% progress (been running for about an hour).
Is this normal?  Is there another SIMPLE way to remove this partition without having in uninsall/reinstall the entire operating system?
    Thank you!

If it's not too late, you should be able to delete the XP partition via Disk Utility, and then drag the little corner of the Mac partition to fill in the empty space.

  • Accidentally deleted Bootcamp

So I messed up and deleted Bootcamp from Utilities and I'm having trouble trying to reinstall it. I've looked it up and nothing seemed to work. Now I have my (Macbook Air) reinstall DVDs (both OS and Applications). I used the apps dvd first and reinstalled everything that was on that. Nothing. Tried choosing optional installs on the OS dvd and it's not listed under applications. I tried Utilities under Install Mac OS X, but it didn't let me choose anything. Pretty much wanted me to reinstall the OS it seemed.
Is there anyway to reinstall Bootcamp without doing a full reinstall? I just want to program. Feel free to just link me to something explaining this if I missed it when I tried searching. Thanks a lot!

Your question is about using OS X, not Boot Camp.
You'll need to use Pacifist to extrat/install Boot Camp Assistant.
Consider a) doing backups, b) installing a nice small emergency OS X on external drive partition (30GB is plenty) and use the rest of the drive for backup volume.

  • How do i remove a bootcamp partition without bootcamp assistant?

I incorrectly removed the bootcamp partition via disk utility rather than on the bootcamp assistant. Now my mac boots into the deleted partition. To avoid i press the option key during start up and select my Macintosh HD. How do i now remove this partition? There is no option in bootcamp as bootcamp thinks its partition is deleted.

Try going into the system preferences and then go to "Startup Disk" and choose the main hard drive to boot up into. This way, instead of booting into the deleted partition you can tell the computer to boot into your main hard drive.

  • Bootcamp Assistant Stalls on restart after partitioning

Ok so i had some problems with my windows install and i wanted to update to Mountain Lion. I wiped my entire hard drive, deleted all the partitions, and started fresh with one partition. I got Mountain Lion installed perfectly. Heres where the problem starts. I started with editing the plist to make bootcamp allow USB install. (im running  an Imac 2007). The Superdrive only works when it wants to and its easier just to not use it at all. I then opened bootcamp assistant and checked all three boxes (created usb disk, download support drivers, and install windows 7). I used my handy .iso of my win7 x64 disk and bootcamp created my usb disk, downloaded the support drivers then asked me how big to make my partition. i choose the size and clicked continue. Bootcamp partitioned my drive just fine and then restarted. And then my computer sticks at the apple logo (with no spinning wheel). i let it sit over night and no difference. so i just powered off and when i powered on i get the *no boot disk -- insert bootable disk and press any key*. The USB flash drive is in the computer but its not showing up after a restart and holding alt. i can boot into OS X just fine but not get windows to install. The bootcamp partition shows up on my OSX desktop with no files. Also the USB disk shows up named WININSTALL with the install files and support drivers on it.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Is your external DVD drive an Apple drive, or a third party drive?  I Not all third party drives provide full boot support in their hardware, so that could be the cause of your problem.  Since you have a MacBook Air, it should support booting from a USB stick with your Windows installer on it.  You might try that.

  • The guide to bootcamp assistant states that bootcamp can only be installed on a drive with a single partition. New Macs with Lion preinstalled have two partitions - the second is a recovery partition.  How do I install Bootcamp?

Late in August 2011 I took delivery of a new 27" iMac with Lion preinstalled.  I need to run Windows as well. Following Apple's written suggestion, I printed off the then current 12 pages of the document "Bootcamp Installation & Setup Guide" which clearly stated that the hard drive you were going to install on had to have on it, before install, a maximum of one partition.  Using finder and disk utility I determined that there was only one partition.  Unbeknownst to me, there was (is) an additional hidden (from those two pieces of software) partition on the disk.  As of machines delivered new with Lion preinstalled, Apple has begun to include a "recovery partition".  In that partition there is a copy of the software necessary to reinstall Lion via a download from the Apple App Store.  Not knowing the partition was there, I cranked up  "Bootcamp Assistant" which nicely offered to repartition my hard drive creating a "Bootcamp Partition" in addition to the existing.  I told it how big to make each and hit the do it button, subsequently destroying my operating system.  Oh, it very nicely told me, after the damage was done, how many partitions were REALLY on the disk and that I could not install Bootcamp cause there were too many partitions.
Luckily the the Recovery Partition, which at that point I knew existed, was not harmed and after doing some research on another compter, I used it to once again download Lion from the App Store and reinstall. So, I have recovered but am still stuck with the problem:  how do I install Bootcamp in this new environment?

First you need to seriously back up your Mac.
A clone is an exact duplicate of your existing Mac HDD. Merely copying and pasting a drive will not make a bootable backup. In case of problems you can boot from an Ext HDD clone and use the utilities to repair, reformat, or clone the Ext HDD back to the internal Mac HDD.  While Time machine back ups are easy you can not boot from it. The best thing to have for any kind of problem is a bootable clone backup on an external drive. Some even have two external backup drives in case one fails. There are two good apps for cloning named SuperDuper and Carbon Copy Cloner.
In dealing with the recovery partition a simple approach is to clone the Mac partition to an external disk then re-partition the Mac to a single partition (GUID partition table) . Then clone the external disk clone back to the Mac. You will now have only one Partition and Boot Camp assistant sould not object.
Some have recommended getting rid of the recovery partition while others have advised not to do this. If you have the Lion USB Thumb Drive you do not need a recovery partition so can discard it without concern. There is another way to get rid of the recovery partition if you decide to do it but first be sure to have a backup of your Mac ( I know I sound like a nagging mom but many dead computers have been saved by this simple precaution).
    Use Disk Utility.
    1) Make the Recovery visible in Disk Utility by using a program like Secrets:http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27025/secrets or MacPilot:http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php (15 day free trial).
    2) Highlite the Recovery partition and Control click it and select Mount the partition.
    3) With the Recovery partition highlited, erase the partition, you'll get an error message, ignore it.
    4) Now highlite the top identity of the hard drive and select the partition tab.
    5) Highlite the Recovery partition and press the minus sign.
    6) Click and hold on the bottom edge of the partition above and drag it to the bottom, if it doesn't go there automatically, the press apply.
