I just updated my Skype for my iPhone and iPad. Suddenly, I figure out that I cannot delete chat history as previous version? Why? How can I delete chat history in Skype iOS new version?

To delete the local (!) chat history in a conversation do the following:
Open the "Recent" tab (iPhone & iPod) / sidebar (iPad).
Tap the "Edit" button
You will see a red remove icon next to each conversation. Tap it to remove.
Note: This will only delete the local chat history. If you log in to Skype from a different device the chat content will be synced there. This is how Skype chat sync is designed currently (Latest Version only).

Do you have a backup file containing the chat history? If not, once you have deleted the BBM chat history, it cannot be retrieved. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Unable to delete chat history

I'm going to bring this up again. I spent an hour deleting, reinstalling and clearing data. Yet chat history comes back. This violates my privacy. Please do something to issue.

So you need to delete chat messages permanently from Skype server, only in this way your chat history will never come back. You could do this with Delete Skype History Network Edition program which deletes chat conversations from remote Skype server so they'll never appear again on all your devices where you're signed in to Skype incl. Passwords are not stored in the browsing history. If you delete your passwords, history or cookies it is not possible to recover them.

Blocking users from deleting chat history

I am a system admin and our users are suing skype IM. Some users are using the skype IM for their personal use. We want to view all the chat history of all the skype users. So, I want to block the users from deleting the skype chat history.

Any chance anyone from Skype can respond to this?? The lacking control over skype as a system admin is the main reason Skype is lacking adoption in the enterprise. We need a simple chat and video call solution both internally and externally but Skype might be out automatically if there is no way to control the chat history. Been browsing everything to do with this, and absolutely there should be a "delete history" button as per PC version.
I stumbled across something interesting which I hope helps and its a conglomeration of a few things (I have the S4!)
I found out that IF you used MSN or Windows live then you have been asked to join the 2 together?... No?.. Well I had Skype 1st and also MSN. Anyways... This is how I got rid on mine and it did take a couple of goes because it left one conversation behind.
First as per othersw, go into settings>more>app manager>skype. Then in this order: clear cache: clear data, then force stop the app. This will reset everything pasword wise.
Now go on PC. Sign in to account(s) one at a time and clear any/all history even if there appears to be none (for me was Skype and Microsoft Passport).
Sign out of both. Start up Skype again and sign in as normal.
It worked for me after a couple of goes (I think the force stop was the thing that did it!) and I have nice clean message history.
But come on Skype.. how difficult can it be to have a "clear history" button/setting....

You can delete your Chat history by going to Tools>Options in the desktop client; click on the IM and SMS tab; click on IM settings; then show advanced settings; then you can clear the history and modify how long chat history goes back.
Note that this will not delete the other user's chat history with you, only yours.

Protect bbm chat history from being deleted

I'm still new here, plz help me, is it possible for me to stop the bbm chat history on a Blackberry from being deleted? Maybe set a password before deletion will take place?

Unfortunately, since each application running its own server will handle pages differently and have backend scripts that process the requests, there is not a whole lot we can do in the browser but clear the cache. It would require resources beyond this forum. If however, you can get in contact with the developer of that application and ask if this is expected, we would be happy to work with an example.

Skype won't let me delete all my chat history

I followed the instructions on how to delete all my chat history and I tried to delete it but then it said 'Cant delete history while calls are going on'. I wasnt calling anyone at the time so I dont understand why this is happening every time I try to delete my chat history. Can someone help me here? Thanks.

Go to the Summary tab and check "Sync only Checked Songs and Videos." Then go to the Music tab and select "Sync Music" and "Entire Music Library". Then exit the iPhone section and go to your main music list on iTunes. From there, check off only the songs you want to sync. Then sync your iPhone.
Also, on the iPhone, to delete a song, go to your Songs list and swipe left or right on a song's title. A Delete button should appear - press that. As long as the song is checked in iTunes, though, it will come back the next time you sync.

I found out how to recover the deleted messages (or at least see them). You need to look for DAT files inside C:\Users\<profilename>\AppData\Roaming\Skype\<skypename>\chatsync\
Just use a file search like FileLocator Lite (or Windows' own search) to look for most recently modified DAT files in this folder's subfolders. Open them in Notepad++ or Notepad2 (don't use crappy Windows Notepad) and search for some existing message you know comes just before or after the deleted messages (when searching for a known message, use only a small alphabetic part of it, including spaces, that is big enough to be unique but not too big to become obscure). From there you can easily work out what the deleted messages were.

I tried opening this file as a DB in Database.NET but it kept asking for a password. I have no idea what the password is, but it probably also means it's not an SQLite DB. For now, we can only work with the file as a text file.
