Delete expired backup;

Hi expert,
i want delete expired backup of databae
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 7
this is my RMAN Database setting
how can delete RMAN backup ,
i have take backup of every day.
delete backup 'sysdate -2';
but how can delete it?

I think you are confusing the things.
If you set a policy of REDUNDANCY = 7, then you want to keep 7 copies of the files in the backups.
And that is excluded with DELETE OBSOLETE clause and not to DELETE EXPIRED clause.
And also, if you define REDUNDANCY = 7, you may not use a DELETE SYSDATE-2, because there may be a file that was not backuped 7 times.

    Backups are alright so it is not an important issue but I am wondering if something in my preferences set is wrong.
    Hans

    Time Machine keeps hourly backups for one day, then daily backups for a week, etc. What you are seeing is it deleting the daily backups form more than 24 hours ago. This is what it does, nothing to worry about.

  • I want to delete expired backups

    Hey, I had manually deleted some backups, I didn't know about the "delete obsolete" command at the time. So when I do a "report obsolete" the expired backups are still showing and when I do a delete expired, it wont delete them since they were already deleted, but they are still showing up when i do a crosscheck and report obsolete.
    So, my question is, is there anyway to tell rman that they have already been deleted? So they wont show up anymore?

    Can you tell the output of CROSSCHECK and DELETE EXPIRED statements. RMAN marks backups and copies as expired when you run a CROSSCHECK command and the files are absent or inaccessible.

  • Can't delete obsolete and expired backups.

    Every Sundays I create 0 level backup.
    Every Thuesdays I create 1 level comulative backup.
    Every other days I create 1 level incremental backup.
    Sometimes I need a free space for new backups and I try clean old backups.
    As I can understand, rman remove backups from 'list backup', but doens't delete physically from disk storage.

    I try to ask one more time.
    I make all backups in the folder \u06\backup.
    I make full backups every week.
    After command "crosscheck backup" all backups older 2 weeks must be mark as "OBSOLETE". This operation works correctly, becouse in "list backup" i look all backups for last two weeks and no older (for today they all made earlyer then 06/11/2011)!
    After crosscheck operation i try to delete old backups from HDD.
    RMAN> delete expired backup;
    using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
    channel ORA_DISK_1: SID=2 device type=DISK
    specification does not match any backup in the repository
    RMAN> delete obsolete;
    RMAN retention policy will be applied to the command
    RMAN retention policy is set to recovery window of 3 days
    using channel ORA_DISK_1
    no obsolete backups found
    But after this operation I look in my backup folder files since 02/10/2011. How to sync backups (delete obsolete backups from HDD) in rman list (command 'list backup') and in operation system list (command 'ls' in sun10)?

  • Time Machine deleted all backups

    Just got a TM error message saying my 3TB drive needed 1.68TB and there was only 1.3 TB available. I thought this unlikely as my target drive should only require an incremental backup (1.68TB being a full backup). So I clicked 'back up now' (daft, I know) and Time Machine deleted everything and started a brand new backup which I immediately stopped. The TM drive still says there's only 1.3TB available which means my older backups are still in there somewhere, right?
    While I don't think I've anything on the backup that I need, I'm worried how this could happen - 4 months of backups just vanished instantly.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    SNaP

    Thanks for the reply, Linc,
    First thing is there's no 'Starting standard backup' string, but I'm assuming the 'starting automatic backup' is our boy. I've deleted most of the texts where it says its 'deleting expired backups' (about 35 in all), and I've deleted other repetetive lines but I'm reluctant to delete more as I might be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. The string finished with my creating a new Time Machine backup on a separate drive ('Storage 3'). The original Time Machine backup was named 'Mac Companion'. The two drives being backed up were 'SSD' and '2TB HD'.

    Hello,
    Expired backups are those that are unavailable on the location that you had taken the backup (disk or tape). Running a "crosscheck backup" lists out the expired backups and also updates the repository saying that these backups have been expired. You can delete the expired backups using "delete expired backup".
    If you have the backups copied to a different location using OS commands and if the repository is not updated, then the crosscheck commands lists these backups to be expired. If these backups are required for a restoration purpose, then you can catalog them to the location where they are currently place using "catalog start with <path where the backup is stored>".
    Since you are on 9i, "catalog start with .." is not supported. May be you can use this DBMS_RCVMAN package but not sure about its usage.

  • Time Machine does not appear to auto delete old backups

    I would like old backups to be automatically deleted, but so far does not appear to have occurred as I have not received any warnings. I have checked the box in the setup dialog box to do so. I have only 60GB remaining and receive warnings from Tech Tools that the free space threshold is at 2% remaining.
    Does the drive have to be fully exhausted before older backups are automatically deleted (causing the warning), and if so should I turn off the Tech Tools warning for remaining disc space for that drive?
    I am using an OWC Mercury Elite AL Pro 2TB external drive with an eSATA connection. Our typical business files can range from 100 to 300MB each. In the Apple Support Mac 101 Time Machine article it states "As your backup disk begins to fill up to its capacity, Time Machine intelligently deletes the oldest backups to make room for newer ones (and will alert you if the "Warn when old backups are deleted" option is selected in Time Machine preferences)." To date, this warning has not appeared making me think no deletions have occurred.
    Thanks for any thoughts, Scott

    The oldest backup(s) won't be deleted until there isn't room for a new one. And "warning" is a bit misleading -- when there isn't enough space, the backup will fail, without deleting anything, until you deselect the option. See #C4 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
    Note that this has changed for Snow Leopard; it does the deletion(s) automatically, then sends a notice.
    and if so should I turn off the Tech Tools warning for remaining disc space for that drive?
    Yes. That accomplishes nothing. Time Machine manages it's space automatically.
    To date, this warning has not appeared making me think no deletions have occurred.
    That's not strictly true; it applies only when Time Machine has to delete your oldest backups to make room for new ones. But it also deletes "expired" backups every time it does a new one. See #12 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • Exposé hot keys disabled after Time Machine "Delete all backups of file"

    I have been having the same problem that was initially mentioned in this topic:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5850265#5850265
    Namely, sometimes after I restart all of my Exposé and Dashboard hot keys have been turned off (but not the Spaces hotkey, just F9-F12). My hot corners for turning off or on the screensaver work just fine, but I have to manually go in and turn back on my Exposé hot keys. Some people said it was associate with WoW, but I am not running World of Warcraft. This last time it happened (this morning), I had removed all backups of a few files in Time Machine (what's the point of having a backup of a rented movie after the 24 hour viewing period has expired?). I have been looking for a way to report this to Apple, but have been unable thus far.
    I just tested it to see if you have to restart, and you do not. About thirty minutes ago I turned all the Exposé hot keys on, and just a minute ago I deleted a backup of a file on my Desktop in Time Machine (by selecting, "Delete all backups of file ______") and the hot keys had been disabled again.
    Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this?

    Mechanist wrote:
    At some point I told Time Machine to get rid of backups of a particular file using the "Delete all backups of ..." option. Time Machine duly deleted the backups of the file and stopped making new ones.
    Not exactly.  It did delete the existing backups, but didn't make any new ones because the file hasn't changed since then.
    The easiest way to get it to back it up is to make a minor change to it (the name or something in the contents), then change it back.  Time Machine should back it up on the next backup.
    Alternatively, you need to force a "deep scan," where Time Machine compares everything on your system to the backups.  Usually, just starting up from your Recovery HD will do that, although sometimes you have to start from it and Repair your internal HD to trigger it.
    If you're not sure how to do that, see Using the Recovery HD and/or #6 in Using Disk Utility.

    You can issue a LIST BACKUP SUMMARY command. When you see the list of backups available. You can then go ahead and delete backups using the DELETE BACKUPSET <backupset id> command.
    By the way, check out TAHITI.ORACLE.COM for documentation on RMAN.
    Good luck

  • Can i delete the backup on my internal drive as i have it backed up on a external drive...if so how??

    can i delete the backup on my internal drive as i have it backed up on a external drive...if so how??

    When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
