Delete files in Open Recent Files list - CS3

Is it possible to delete single files in the "Open Recent Files" list
or specify how many recently opened files are be shown?
I am using CS3 (5.0.3).
Thanks

No and no, although Adobe themself doesn't seem to have any problems with this -- every single update kills the list (to my chagrin).
Can't imagine any bona fide reason you'd want to. It's not like it's meant as sort of kind of Document organizing feature, as if.

  • 'Open Recent' files list

The 'Open Recent' files list is too short.
Is there a way to make it longer, e.g. for 25 or 50 files?
    Thanks!

I'm not sure that it's a good idea but it's your wish so here is the soluce:
    set nbRecents to 30
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.iWork.Pages NSRecentDocumentsLimit " & nbRecents
If you want the same behavior in Numbers, use:
    set nbRecents to 30
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.iWork.Numbers NSRecentDocumentsLimit " & nbRecents
In fact we may use that for every application with a Recent Items menu.
I got it in a thread dedicated to the behavior of Script Editor.

  • "open recent file" menu item - 2 issues / aspects (Mac & Windows)

regarding the  "open recent file" menu item in the File menu.
    1)   should have a way to "clear recent items".  Most software solves this by appending an item "Clear Recent Items" to the bottom of the list of aliases that springs forth from the menu.
    2) Further, in the preferences it should be able to be set to 0 to prevent the function entirely, not just natural #s 1-99.  This is the case in Windows Adobe REader, and on the Mac it was the case the last time I was able to check, but due to the bugs in 9.1.x regarding the ability to handle a case-sensitive file system I haven't been able to even open the preferences on the mac for a while.

    Michael:
    Thanks for your quick reply.
Please note that this issue:  "open recent file" menu item that is not clearable, nor is the system preference able to be set to retain 0 files,
has absolutely nothing to do with the file system issue.  It is just a design choice (or oversight or bug depending on your point of view).
It is an issue of security/privacy to not have the Reader keep a list of recently viewed files, or to at least allow the user to clear the list.
Thanks again for your time, interest, and speedy reply.
    Cheers!

  • Open Recent Files are not registering

The "Recent Files" option in either the button upon opening Pages, or option under "File" does not contain any files. I did trash certain plist files because the "Recent Files" was not updating. Any suggestions on how I can get this part of the Application to work? or do I need to reload the Application?
    Thank you.

    You're right.
As I rarely use 10.6.3, I missed that.
So, the list of preferences to trash when something is behaving wrong with an iWork app is now :
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Keynote. plist
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Keynote. LSSharedFileList.plist
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Numbers. plist
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Numbers. LSSharedFileList.plist
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.pl ist
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.LS SharedFileList.plist
I guess that the one stroring the 'recent documents' descriptors is more prone to corruption that the other one.
When you get an odd behaviour, it would be a good idea to trash the xx.LSSharedFileList.plist file first.
If it's sufficient, you will not loose the other prefs

  • Show full file name in File Open Recent Files menu.

I would like to be able to see the full file name in the File > Open Recent Files menu. With long file names, I cannot differentiate between the file I want to edit and the series of images I exported - they all look the same when truncated. (Mac)

I'm working in CS6 on Windows and wondering exactly the same thing. I usually export PDFs or JPGs of current work using the same or very similar names for tracking purposes but trying to open recent files then becomes a game of trying to figure out which of the various identically-truncated file names actually corresponds to the file I want to reopen.
Is there a way to get Illustrator to display the FULL file name in the Open Recent Files menu?

  • Adobe Reader X freezes when I try to open recent files

When I try to open recent files, Adobe Reader X will freeze up and will stay that way until I restart the computer. Even logging off won't work. I recently left it alone for around 5-10 minutes and Windows finally did end up stopping the process, but this is not normal. Any ideas for a fix?

Nope. That didn't do it. It won't even let me end the process AcroRd32.exe. I confirmed that after around 10 minutes, it finally closed on it's own. I just also confirmed that it's a problem with accessing files on my network, not local files. The odd thing is that I can use the Open tool, go the folder and open that file fine, but when I try to open the same file under the recent files, it freezes up. This may have to do with the fact that this is a mapped network drive. Any fix would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Can I increase the "Open Recent Files" to more than 10?

I haven't been able to figure out how to get more than ten file options
    FILE> OPEN RECENT FILES
I tried Preferences and searching the library.

Settings like this one should be available in the programme preferences dialog.
Yes, you can do a lot by editing the somewhat hidden AIPrefs file, but isn't that pretty archaic … ?

  • 'Open Recent File' doesn't work

Hi, I've just started a new job, and I'm on a PC with CS6. (I'm used to Mac, CS5)
I can't seem to get 'open recent file' to work in any of my CS6 programes It is always greyed out and never remembers what I've last done.
Does it have something to do with the files being stored on a passworded server?
    Thanks!
    -Kim

Ha! I would if I had an I.T department to start with!
I know absoutely nothing about PCs or Windows. We are a small business of 3 staff with no I.T department at all. The boss' husband put in the computers and he doesn't know anything about it or about CS. Boo.
Any pointers of how to fix it myself? Thanks

  • Open Recent Items list disappeared

    Hello,
Well, the Open Recent Items list - the list underneath Users, Macintosh HD, etc - has disappeared from all applications. This is list vital to my sanity, it's taking twice as long to navigate to files now.
I've searched the Apple Discussions and the Internet without any luck. Does anyone have a solution to make this list viewable again?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanking you in advance.

  • Error opening CHM file (Cannot open the file: mk:@MSITStore)

    Hi,
I'm getting an error opening a CHM file (Cannot open the file: mk:@MSITStore). I have tried the following solutions, but neither of them worked:
Deleted the CPD file, reopened the project, and recompiled.
Ran MJ's Diagnostics report and recompiled.
    I'm using RH10 and Windows 7.
I have lots of other projects, and none of them result in this error. I can't think of anything else to fix it. I have seen a few threads on this issue, but none of them have lead me to any solutions that work for me. I'm hoping that starting a new thread will provide visibility and allow someone to share a solution.
    Thanks,
    Amy

    ---UPDATE---
I was able to fix this by generating the WebHelp and then regenerating the CHM file. I'm not sure why this worked, but it did.
However, I'm also seeing this issue with a different project now, and this "fix" isn't fixing that one. So I still need an actual solution. At least for now, the first project is "fixed."
    Thanks!

  • Illustrator Crashes when creating new file and opening a file

Every time I try to create a new file, or even open an existing file Illustrator crashes. I have re-installed illustrator...no luck. I have tried running Illustrator while holding SHIFT...no luck. I am using windows 7, and have no crazy drivers that I believe need to be updated.
    Thank you for your help!
    -Patrick

Have been Googling like always after Illustrator CC crashes with these specific symptoms (Opening fine, New file of Opening existing file crashes).
All other threads had no working solution for me and the symptoms seemed little different - Opening the program and keeping it open without opening or creating a file was no problem.
This was the well-appreciated solution that did the trick for me.
Re: Illustrator CC 17.1 Crashing on New File or Open File (Win 7) works under a different user?
(In my case I think my default printer had been changed in the background by using a VPN connection this morning which I hardly use ever. Never had been thinking in that direction of course.)
    Good luck to you all.

  • Microsoft Office for Mac open recent File menu option causing AFP to crash

    Hi all,
We have an Xserve running Mac OS X Server Leopard 10.5.8. The Xserve hosts three file shares for about 60 users. Our network is 99% Mac based running mostly 10.5.8 with a few 10.6.x. We have historically over the past several years had the AFP service become unreliable and crash frequently. Late last week the AFP service crashes constantly. The quick solution to getting it up and running is to delete the AFP.conf file in /etc.
We have troubleshot one cause of AFP crashing to the Open Recent... File menu option in Microsoft Office for Mac applications. That is, through some amount (haven't been able to narrow it down to how much) of opening documents on the share via the Open Recent menu the AFP service will crash.
Here's what's happening in the AppleFileServer .crash file:
    Process: AppleFileServer [26065]

Our solution is to have all our users turn off the open recent option in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Not an ideal solution but it may get the AFP service running "good enough."
Has anyone had an experience like this before or can anyone duplicate the AFP service crashing when trying to open documents on a share via the open recent menu? Any other ideas?
    Thanks

    Update.
I have been able to consistently reproduce a problem where the AFP service will crash if a file that a user has an alias to is moved to a folder and the user is denied access to .
    1. On your Mac create an alias to a file or folder, that you have access to, that is stored on a share served via AFP. The alias can be in the Places section of a Finder window, on the Desktop, or anywhere an alias can be created. Lets call what the alias points to the target.
    2. Move the target to a folder on the AFP share and deny the user or group Read & Write access to that folder.
    3. Try accessing the target via the alias created in step 1.
    The AFP service should crash.
Can anyone reproduce this crash scenario too?

  • How to save down an .idml file to open as .idd in CS3?

I'm using a G5 (PPC), OS 10.5.8 and CS3 (v 5.0.4) an recently received client files that were created in InDesign 5 and saved as .idml. What are the steps necessary to save them down to InDesign CS3 version, so I can open them and modify? The other party does not have CS4 or 3 available anymore.
PS. We tried upgrading just InDesign to 5.5, but that ended up with 3 days worth of lost upgrades, updates, research and $150 worth of software we can't use and we are still at point zero.
Quick response is of the essence since we have a client waiting on their proofs.
    Thank you.

As you've no doubt by now realized, InDesign 5/5.5 only runs on a Mac Intel machine. CS4 was the last version to also run on a G5 PPC.
Whether you use InDesign, QuarkXpress, PageMaker, the inability to move files backward more than 1 version has always been an issue for the last 25 years.
Its always been this way and if isn't going to change.
If you want to be able to accept & work on newer files from clients it is necessary to upgrade on a regular basis.
I know your boss won't be happy about buying a new Mac and also upgrading regularly but its the price of doing business.
Buying an upgrade for $150 or so every 18 months is a very small price to pay for the ability to keep your clients happy.
The longer you go between upgrades the harder, or in this case the impossibility of getting newer files into an old version like CS3
(Peter is a nice guy for helping you out this one time, but this is NOT a viable solution)
Clients will go elsewhere if you tell them they have to convert their file not once but twice just for you to be able to receive & work on them.
A hypothetical - If your boss was paying a company to provide a service for him and they starting making him jump through hoops just to accept his work, how long do you think your boss would put up with the hassle before he threw up his arms and said "Forget it! I'm taking my business someplace else!"
This is the same situation that you are presenting to your clients.
Maybe this can convince him to upgrade.
You could get a Mac Mini or iMac and run Creative Suite without issues. You might not want to edit video on a Mini, but it is more that up to the task of running InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc.
The old G5 PPC is getting long in the tooth. A new Mac Mini should also be able to work for your needs for years. Trust me on this,we've all been there!
Many people that had a tower G4 or G5 in the past realize that a new MacPro is out of the price range for most people.
They get an iMac or a Mini and don't look back.
The basic Mini has an Intel Dual Core i5 processor starts at $599,
You already have the CS 5.5 upgrade so you just need a new computer.
    Good Luck!!!

  • Open all files in 'Open Recent' menu
