Delete files on ipod

It appears that I have a number of duplicate files on my Ipod Nano.
I have deleted the duplicates in my Itunes Music folder on my PC.
How can I remove the duplicate files from the Ipod nano?
Would it be simpler to "reset" the nano and delete all the files and then do a new Sync?
thanks

To remove a song from iTunes/Shuffle, right-click on the song, select CLEAR in the drop-down menu that appears, and then select REMOVE. This will delete songs from Playlists and/or from the Shuffle, but they will remain in the iTunes Library. If you delete them from the Library, they're GONE!

  • Itunes 4.9 deletes files on iPod when updating

Itunes 4.9 deletes files on iPod shuffle when updating or copying songs.
I keep all my music on dvd, so as to not occupy space on my HD. With the previous version of itunes I could:
    insert dvd
drag album in itunes as a playlist
copy the playlist in the ipod
    eject dvd
Now as soon as i eject the dvd and reopen itunes or do any action that makes itunes try to update the ipod it deletes all songs.
    Any suggestions?

If you kept a previous version, go back to it then, but keep in mind if the song isn't in the Library they will be deleted from the Shuffle.
You can send your opinion to feedback but given the current state of DRM and the fact they want to keep adding labels to the iTunes Music Store I doubt they will change this. Another option you could take would be to switch to 3rd party software, such as Xplay or Winamp and you would then avoid this issue.

  • Delete file from ipod touch

    Hi,

    - You can also connect the iPod to your computer and unckeck/deselect the songs in iTuns on the computer and then sync.

  • How directly delete file from iPod Classic?

What a pity that when listening to the music file and press and hold the center button in the menu that appears, there is no "Delete file".

Given that the product line has been withdrawn I suspect there is little merit in sending your idea to iPod Feedback but it is there if you want it. What I used to do was give such tracks a one star rating and use smart playlist rules that would automatically exclude tracks with one star so they would be removed on the next sync.

  • Can't delete file from iPod

I have a podcast episode on my iPod that iTunes doesn't think is Music, Podcast, or Audiobook, so the only place it appears is in a playlist. So I can't delete this podcast from my iPod at all. When I delete it from the playlist, there is no way to list it from iTunes unless I create a smart playlist searching for artist or podcast name. So why doesn't apple have an "All" category so that I can delete these files that can't be deleted? These type of things used to show up in the Music list, they changed the Music list to not show all files in the Library.

Shift-Delete worked. Now if I could only find the podcasts that got deleted from my iPod that still take up space somehow. Even those don't come up in smart playlists. If I click on my iPod (top level) I get a graph of Audio, Other and Free space. My "Other" reads 122 MB. What is "Other"? It can't be podcasts because I have 381 MB of those.

  • How to recover deleted files from iPod

All the contents of my iTunes music folder were deleted. When I connected my iPod it was autosynced with the empty iTunes music folder and everything on the iPod got deleted too. (No warning, no undo.) Does anyone know of a utility proven to recover files deleted from an iPod in this way. Looking for something someone has actually tried with success. Have already tried a couple of scans of the ipod with google results.

  • Cannot delete file from iPod

I use my iPod as a portable storage device for avi files, but I cannot seem to delete one of the files. There was an error when I captured this file live via firewire, so it has a filename but its size is 0kb.
After going to My Computer, Drive F:, I can delete the file. But every time I go back to Drive F: the file is back again. What do I do??? Why won't it remain deleted??? By the way, this file is not in my iTunes, just on the iPod.

If you have all your music on your computer as well, then just Restore:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
This will wipe everything from your iPod.

  • Deleted files when ipod accessed as external hard disk.

I can't get the ipod to start on itunes like windows wouldn't recognize it. I tried to restore, no sucess.
Is there a way to reformat it? What if itunes is not recognizing it? Is there a manual way to go around it?

Do you have the iPod in disk mode?

Pressing return will get past this screen as there is a button at the bottom right of iTunes which you likely cannot see.
Set your screen resolution to at least 1024x768 to see this button.

  • Can I delete files from my computer and still keep them on my iPod touch?

I have researched this topic here as well as on Google and I am not really getting the answers I need. I am by no means an iTunes/iPod pro; my 3 year old recently showed me how to shut off my iPod (I hadn't realized before that it had anything other than a "sleep mode", if you will).
I have read you need to set iTunes from autosync to manual, but this isn't working for me... iTunes still wants to delete/replace everything currently stored on my iPod, or will say it can't find the files on my iPod if I've already deleted them from my PC.
I have Windows XP. I recently upgraded my iTunes software to 9.2.1.5, and I have an iPod touch 64GB.
I really need to delete a lot of MP3s and videos (not purchased from iTunes) to clear up space on my home PC, but I'm afraid to do it because every time I end up having to replace the deleted files anyway whenever I sync the thing.
I click on "manual" on the Summary page, I then click on "sync music" and "Sync Movies". On each of those pages I get a pop up, and if I don't click on music or movies previously added to my iPod, they get deleted. The "manual" option doesn't save itself as the default option either, I always have to recheck it every time I sync my iPod. Otherwise, it always goes back to the autosync mode.
I would just like to add new files to my iPod, leave the stuff already stored on it, and delete the files off my computer. I don't know if I'm still doing it wrong, or if there's an iTunes glitch or what. Can someone please explain how to do this?

Sounds like you have a few problems going on here. First one being, the itunes/ipod preference isn't getting saved for manually managing.
Second one being, if you are intending to manually manage content on your ipod, hitting sync does just that - it puts the ipod "in sync" with the PC. If a file isn't on the PC, it gets erased from the ipod.
My advice is to get an external hard drive, leave the ripped files from your CDs there so itunes always has access to them, and free up space on your PC's hard drive that way. An added benefit of having an exHD is, you can have backups copies of your purchased tracks, since you only get one download of them. If your PC dies, they will be on the exHD, or vice versa.

  • How do I delete files on my PC but save them in my ipod

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I've just bought a fifth generation ipod and I'm very much a newbie. I understand that the ipod automatically updates itself when I connect it to Itunes.
If I delete files completely from Itunes and my hard drive to save space, but want to keep the tracks on my ipod, how do I prevent them being from being deleted from the ipod when I reconnect it to Itunes?
I know it's something to do with the 'synchronisation'. I've tried to find something on the 'help' information pages but I just can't get my head around it! Thanks.

Connect you ipod to your computer and then in the ipod settings select to manually manage your ipod, then when you connect you ipod you just add new songs to your ipod yourself and songs you have removed off your hard drive will stay on you ipod. BEWARE if you restore your ipod you will lose the songs you have deleted off your hard drive

  • Itunes deleting music on ipod because the original file culd not be found

The music on my ipod is being deleted when i start syncing my music from iTunes to my ipod. The thing is all the music on my ipod is still on Itunes. This started happening recently, it was all fine before.Since the original file cant be found on Itunes how do you stop it from deleting off your ipod?
Also could it be a problem since my music is stored on a separate hard drive, maybe thats why the original file cant be found, even though its still connected to the computer.
If it cant be fixed then is there an easy way to find the original files so the i wont have to find the "lost" files then delete them and sync them over again.
Could it be deleting the files off my ipod because half the songs on Itunes "could not find the original file" even though the songs are on my ipod already?

I use manual sync for that very reason.
And also for that very reason, I maintain my iTunes folder on my laptop as a backup for my iPod; I only delete "songs" when I want to remove them from my iPod, and I use auto sync because I can. If I ever have to restore (and I did once, when I had to have my iPod replaced), I know I can do a complete job of it.
(Should my iPod files exceed the capacity of my laptop hard disk, I'll probably switch to using a folder on an external drive for this purpose.)

  • How can I get back deleted files to my iPod?

First of all, I tried to upgrade my iPod's iOS 4.2.1 to 5. I followed the steps in the following page: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4972. Unfortunately, I unsucceeded as the iOS stayed the same but I lost all of my downloaded music and video files. So, my question is how to restore deleted files? I could get my files back by adding manually them from my computer to iTunes and then to iPod, but the thing is that I've changed my computer and all the music files in my iPod were from my old computer. I've tried to find a solution on my own, but it has been hopeless so far. Please, any kind of help is appreciated!

    Which iPod do you have?
Some iPods can only be upgraded to 4.2.1

With the iPod connected to the syncing computer, go to the Music pane for the iPod in iTunes and unckeck the songs you want deleted from your iPod and then sync. The following givesyou some information about syncing.

  • How do I delete files on my iPod second gen?  This is a NEW problem I have only had with the latest version of iTunes.  I have not changed libraries.

How do I delete files on my iPod second gen?  This is a NEW problem I have only had with the latest version of iTunes.  I have not changed libraries.  All files are grayed out.  I have already read related posts in the iTunes community.

Thanks but I had already read this, and it was no help at all.  Under the Summary tab, "Options", there is no check-box to manually manage my stuff.  I suspect this is because it is a 2nd gen iPod, with ONLY manual management.  The only way to delete my stuff seems to be to reset the entire device.
I like to listen to podcasts.  What is particularly frustrating is that the 4th gen shuffle CANNOT play podcasts, but ONLY music, which I discovered after a lot of research and multiple visits to an Apple store.  So I have to resort to an older version of the shuffle to play podcasts  And now with the latest version of iTunes there seems to be no way to delete any podcasts on the older version.  Apple just makes it harder and harder for us podcast-lovers, driving us away from Apple -- driving me away from the entire brand and from ALL Apple devices, not just iPod.
