just wanted to know a few tricks or keyboard shortcuts.
on a pc, when i deleted some files, i always pressed the del-button and then the right-arrow to select 'yes'
on the mac it doesn't work the same. you press the cmd+backspace but when i press de right-arrow to select 'yes', it doesn't work.
it means i have to grab the mouse again. is there some shortcut or key to completely perform this operation with the keyboard.

Sure there is. Select full keyboard access in System Preferences/Keyboard. You will then be able to move around all dialogue boxes (and other controls) via TAB. In addition to ENTER which selects the glowing button, SPACE selects the blue surrounded button.
You can also disable Finder’s "Do you reall want to delete" dialogue in its preferences.

If you're using 9i then you will find that the new functions UTL_FILE.FCOPY and UTL_FILE.FREMOVE will allow you to do what you want. Check out the documentation for more details.

Keynote problems with keyboard shortcuts

Is anyone having problems with keyboard shortcuts not working with Keynote? Had this problem (and a host of others) since the upgrade to Mavericks and the latest Keynote.

I can replicate all by problem number 1. Once the PDF loads, I can use the arrow keys to scroll up/down. All of the other problems you mentioned haven't been implemented.

open disk utility, then click the startup disk and under first aid, there should be a button to repair permissions. also there are programs such as cocktail that will do this for you as well as other optimizing tasks that are good for your computer.

How to open files with "return" key and delete files with "delete" key?

Hi friends,
It's been over a week since I got my iMac and I'm loving it. However, while I'm adapting alright to 'mac' key shortcuts (e.g. using the COMMAND-S for save as opposed to CONTROL-S used in PC).
However, there are 2 things that are annoying me greatly right now.
1. I like selecting files with keys as opposed to using the mouse. I make animations and prefer keyboard shortcuts. However, when I hit "return", instead of opening the file it goes into file-renaming mode. How do I change this? Likewise, I would like to delete files by hitting the delete key. This does not work - how do I change this?
2. When I click SHIFT key sometimes, it gets 'stuck' - which is annoying because I start typing CAPITALS when I wasn't aware I've activated the CAP-LOCK key. How do I get rid of this? Like, I don't want to hit SHIFT for instance, and have that up arrow thing 'stuck' there.

I have to say that I can't reproduce your problem, does this happen just in applications or in everything? I don't know if it's to do with this but pressing Shift 5 times turns on Sticky Keys & Option(Alt) 5 times to turn on Mouse Keys (System Preferences>Universal Access>Keyboard).
After typing "Sticky Keys" into Mac Help, I found this:
"Pressing a group of modifier keys as a sequence
To perform many tasks on your computer, you need to press one or more modifier keys (Shift, Command, Option, and Control) at the same time as another key. For example, pressing Shift-Command-Q in the Finder opens the Logout dialog.
If you have difficulty pressing several keys at once, you can make it easier to press a set of keys by turning on Sticky Keys in the Universal Access preferences pane. With Sticky Keys turned on, you can press a set of modifier keys as a sequence. As you press each key, the symbol for the modifier key appears on the screen.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Universal Access. Then click Keyboard.
Select the On button next to Sticky Keys.
To hear a sound whenever the computer registers that you have pressed a modifier key, select "Beep when a modifier key is set."
To see an icon indicating which modifier keys you have pressed, select "Display pressed keys on screen."
You can also use Slow Keys to adjust the amount of time between when you press a key and when it is activated."

DW CS3 / OS 10.5 - File Palette keyboard shortcuts don't work

Frustrating - on my Dell, I can use the keyboard to
delete/confirm and open files listed in the File Palette. For
example, I can hit backspace/delete and remove a file after
confirming with an Enter. If I want to open a file, I select it and
hit enter - it opens in DW.
The problem lies with my other (preferred) computer. On my
MBPro with OS10.5 and DW CS3, none of my keyboard shortcuts work in
the same palette.
Any ideas?

When watching videos, I frequently find need to jump forward or backward within the video. I do this using the slider (playhead) on the on screen control.
The problem I have is that if I do that once, from then on, I cannot use the spacebar to play/pause the video. All I get is an annoying beep. Is there a way to reactivate the keyboard controls without having to close Quicktime and restart?
If it makes any difference, I'm running OS X 10.9 on an early 2013 MacBook Pro (15 inch, Retina display). I recently upgraded to Mavericks but the problem predates the upgrade.
What files compression formats and data rates are you using? QT X v10.3 or QT 7 v7.6.6 player? (Assume v10.3 from topic title but wanted to confirm.)
Basically, I am unable to duplicate the stated problem on an iMac using H.264/AAC test files with data rates up to 20+ Mbps in either QT player app. Do have a problem with QT 7 player app being able to "jump" to a new playhead position in high data rate files probably due to a need to read/traverse all of the intervening data. (I.e., can sometimes take several seconds to complete.)
If you feel the problem is a bug connected to your specific platform or the specific type of file you are using while operating under Mavericks, suggest you file a QT Apple Product "Bug" Feedback Report USING THIS FORM.

How can I delete words from the "Replace list" on my Mac without deleting them in "Keyboard Shortcuts" on my iPhone?

I have scoured the internet but I have not been able to find a solution for this issue. It seems my "Replace list" and "with list", or "Keyboard Shortcuts" as it's called on the iPhone (Where to find it on a Mac ; Where to find it on an iPhone) migrated from my iPhone (iOS 8.1.2) to my Macbook (OSX Yosemite 10.10.1) when I logged in with my iCloud account.
I really, really don't want this feature on my computer but I do want it on my phone. However, whenever I delete words on my computer they get deleted from my phone and vice versa. Is there any way to disable this on my computer? This is what my settings look like now:
It seems like other people must not be bothered by this since I can't find anything about it online... but it's driving me nuts. And I've disabled autocorrect in my settings and for the programs I use but it happens no matter what. Is the only solution to this logging my computer out of my iCloud account? I can't believe there is no other way around this...

Hi,
Of the items you have left in iCloud that are syncing the "Notes" one might be the most logical.
In some cases items in Accessibility can effects things like this but I see no obvious candidates.

I have users complaining that my plugin deletes their keyboard shortcuts. My plugin does not mess with any keyboard shortcuts, so how can this happen?

Is this an installation issue or does it happen later on? When *any* plugin is installed, InDesign rebuilds several caches from resources. That includes actions, menus and consequently also shortcuts. We had that recently with action/menu filters being asked only on first run.
Anyway, the plugin readme should tell the user to save their precious shortcuts into a set before installation ...

Safari iOS 8 freezes with keyboard shortcuts on iPad

Safari with iOS 8.0.2 installed freezes if I have one keyboard shortcut with two letters and another with the same two letters followed by a third, e.g., xx and xxz. If I want the text corresponding to the latter, as soon as I try to type the z, the z on the keyboard turns gray and Safari freezes. This was not a problem with iOS 7. Has anyone else experienced this?

My iPad is 3 years old. Prior to installing iOS8, it had never seized up, no matter how many tabs I'd had open. Since installing iOS8, Safari frequently freezes, no matter how many tabs I have open. In an effort to remedy this situation, I've reset my iPad several times from within Settings; I've reset my iPad several times by holding both the on/off & wake/sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple icon appears, thereby allowing the system to reboot; I've deleted numerous cookies from my iPad's memory ... and Safari continues to seize, usually while I'm in the middle of a wikia edit, though also in a Facebook post, and even in a prior Apple inquiry. Just what can I do to cease this vicious cycle? What is the solution to this iOS8 debacle?

I am trying to switch from Windows to OSX but must first find Mac equivalent solutions for daily tasks performed in Windows.
1. I am looking for an app to quickly resize photos using keyboard shortcuts, i.e. Control + R, just like I can do with Irfanview in Windows.
2. I am looking for an app which will quickly resize multiple photos like I can do with Irfanview.
3. I am looking for another (or the same) light weight app to quickly convert and combine one or more jpgs to PDF. The windows app I am currently using is called JPEGtoPDF from www.compulsivecode.com.

Deleting file with special character in name gets error -43

In my Trash folder there is a .html file with a name containing special characters (oriental) left over from when I uninstalled Adobe CS2. When I try to change the file name to delete the special characters so I can trash the file, I get error -43, and the name won't change. Therefore I can't get the file deleted from the computer because I can't get rid of the special characters.
Is there another way to accomplish the same thing?

I presume you are referring to the notorious Vietnamese file. Others have had success getting rid of it wuth these instructions .

Time Machine Deleting Files with 20Gbs Remaing

Time Machine is starting to delete files when there is still 20Gbs remaining on the hard drive. Its a 500gb hard drive partitioned into two sections with 350gbs allotted for Time Machine. I understand that it deletes older files when its full but 20gbs remains hardly should be defined as full.

Are you sure it's deleting them to make room for new ones, or doing it's normal "thinning" of expired backups?
If it's deleted your oldest backup, then yes, that's because your TM disk is getting near full, as NeroWolfe explained.
If not, it's just TM's normal process of deleting hourly backups after a day, and daily backups after a week.
The easy way to tell is from your logs. Download the +Time Machine Buddy+ widget. It shows the messages from your logs for one TM backup run at a time, in a small window. Among all the other messages, every backup TM deletes will be identified, and it will be clear whether it's making room for new ones, or deleting expired backups.
And even if it is deleting your oldest backups, TM will always retain it's copy of any item that's on any other backup and/or still on your internal HD. So your present system is always backed-up; all you lose is copies of things that were changed or deleted long ago.
