Delete from disk+move to ext. disk error!??
This is so strange!
When i hit backspace and select "delete from disk", it "removes" it from lightroom, but it is still in the finder, and when sync folder, it reappears? So annoying, having 2000 useless files wanting deleted, mixed with 10 that cannot be lost.
Some folders, when trying to move them inside LR, to an ext. disk, it creates the folder on ext. disk, sometimes with none, one or two files - never more. And then this appirs "Could not move files, and unknown error occured" inside LR.
And I cannot rename folders.
Please help.

Synchronise the folder - all the deleted photos will be reimported, and will be added to the "Previous Import" collection
Select all the photos in the "Previous Import" collection and delete them

Yes, if there are a lot of images, that is obviously quicker.

Removed from Lightroom; Now, want to delete from Disk - how to identify?
Here's what I did:
- I removed a bunch of images from Lightroom, without Deleting from Disk.
- Now, I want to remove those images from the Disk, the ones I deleted from the catalog
Is there any good, quick way to delete the "un-cataloged" images out of the hard drive folder, leaving the folder containing only the images still in LR? Perhaps, to move the images still in LR to another folder, then clean out the folder of what's left?
Also, am I missing something obvious about this process? I *usually* just flag images for deletion, but this time, without thinking, I actually deletedthem...but from the catalog only. Whoops.

Files "Deleted from Disk" not deleted
I was under the impression that this problem related to the appearance of "Ghost" drives (duplicate drives appearing in the LR after I edited a file. The folder duplications are no longer a problem in LR 2.1
HOWEVER, when I use the option "delete from disk" (vs. remove)these files are not getting deleted from my hard drive. They reappear on the next folder synchronization I run.
I am either asking for input on how to make deletions stick and/or requesting that Adobe look into this before releasing the release version of 2.1
Thanks - Kevin
System info:
LR 2.1
Windows Vista Home Premium
Quad Core PC with 4GB RAM
1 TB "RAID 5" system drives (4 of them make up the 1 TB)Thanks for the suggestions but they didn't work:
1- Cleared preferences by hitting the various reset to factory buttons. Then closed and restarted LR. Is there another way to do this?
2- The foloder quantity goes down when I delete and goes back up when I synchronize
3- File manager shows the same number of files as LR BEFORE I delete and then shows more AFTER I delete. Then, after synchronizing they are back to equal.
Finally, I tried deleting a file in windows explorer to see its effect. It immediately showed as missing in LR. I synchronized and that file was deleted.
Any other ideas? -
LR3 not prompting to "Delete from Disk"
Hello,
I've marked some photos as rejected which I would like to not only remove from the catalog, but also delete them from disk. I've never had a problem in the past, but now when I go to Photo > Delete Rejected Photos... LR simply shows all of the photos marked as Rejected, but does nothing further. Any ideas as to why it no longer prompts me regarding whether to delete from disk or simply remove from the catalog?
LR 3.2
Mac OS X 10.6.4
Thanks,
RobertNo, none are virtual copies.
But... you got me thinking. I went through the photos marked for deletion, checking to make sure that none were virtual copies. In the process I found that 2 photos are part of various collections. I Unmarked those two photos and now the "Delete from Disk" prompt works!
Thanks for your help!

Deleting in aperture does not delete from disk
When deleting masters in Aperture 3.5.1 it does not delete the files from the disk.
I'm using a WD MyBook USB Drive formatted for MAC OS.
I only use referenced masters to save space with the Aperture Library.
Any help to get Aperture to delete files fully, or a way to find a couple years worth of not deleted files on the drive
(e.g. find all files in a folder on the drive that are not in Aperture), would be very welcomed.
thanks
- omaetherHi,
As I want a clean system, I conducted a series of extra tests to understand why the "delete picture version" did not work.
I can now say that it was related to this second volume (disk) I added in my laptop, which had, for an unknown reason, a permissions issue.
Note that it's impossible to automatically check the volume permissions on a non-bootable partition!
The impact of this permission problem is that the Trash is not working on this volume.
I'm sorry that Aperture didn't mention this (delete) error anywhere during my troubleshooting, as it could have saved me a lot of time!
So here's how to detect and fix:
Create a folder or file next to your library on this volume, then try to delete this empty folder/file.
At this time, it won't be moved to the Trash, but Finder proposes to delete it directly. Don't.
First open this other disk volume with Finder using the "Get Info" (CMD-I) and go at the bottom of the window.
Enable the option "Ignore ownership on this volume" (your password may be needed to unlock this feature first).
Check if the Trash is now working by deleting this empty folder/file. If you did the right operation, it should be placed in the Trash.
Now the permission issue is fixed, try again to delete your pictures from Aperture, and they will be moved automatically to the Trash.

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

Can I delete files from disk that I removed just from LR in error?
Hi, this is a really silly error.
I've just deleted 100s of raw files from lightroom, useless stuff that I should have deleted at the time but was too lazy to do so. Am now trying to purge all the rubbish and it's taking me days (it's from the last 3 years or so.)
This morning I just deleted several hundred images I went to empty the trash can and it's already empty and it's only then that I realise I've been just deleting the files from Lightroom and not from the disk. It's several hours work, is there any way I can now identify in the finder folder which images are not in LR, because these are the ones I want to get rid of for good. I don't want to keep them there taking up valuable memory space or restore them to LR and have to do it all again. Help!
Any advice much appreciated.
Emma
Mac OSX 6.3
Lightroom 2.7Emma,
I would do the following:
BACKUP YOUR CATALOG
Synchronize the folder(s) in question (possibly to top level parent folder)
- Deselect "Scan for metadata updates" during synchronization
- Select "Import new photos" during synchronization
Delete the photos ("Delete from Disk") just imported by Synchronize from within LR (from view "Previous Import") after each import (if it's more than one folder)
This should delete all the images not previously in your catalog but existing in your folder(s).

Why when I delete photos (from disk) does it not clear space on my hard drive?
I went from 800 photos to 51 and my available HD space remains the same. So in total I deleted about 750 20+MB files. I should have more space free on my hard drive but there is nothing. I make sure to choose "delete from disk" as opposed to just "remove" so I can't imagine the problem. I even went back in and erased back ups in the lightroom folder wondering if maybe the images were hiding out there. Deleting back up folders made nominal difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Rob,
You are right. It was GB not MB. I am sure the disk I am looking at is the correct one. I go to the apple, about this mac, more info, storage. Unfortunately I just hit empty trash over and over without looking to see if the files made it in. It has always cleared space before so I assumed it would this time. I do think they made it as I always heard the sound of the trash clearing but I did not actually look for the files first.
I did a lot of research yesterday as to what could be going on and found an article that said time machine backs up locally on my HD and if I want space I can disable that. I found the folder with the back ups and saw there were many. I followed the tutorial online and disabled the back ups and now the folder is gone so you would think- more space. Not one single GB was returned.
I ended up erasing music and photos from iPhoto and a few movies and space cleared when I did those things. Still wondering what happened and want the other space back. 750 raw files is a lot of space, or should be.
Wondering if there is some back up to the back up somewhere.....
Thanks for responding .. I will take all input I can get! -
Deleting photos from disk via LR
When deleting photos in LR and choosing 'delete from disk' to delete these too from the disk, these photos are only deleted from LT but not from disk.
How can I solve this problem?Likely, by only being in Folders when you do this, not Collections or elsewhere.

Lightroom WONT delete photos from disk
I understand the diffrencce between deleting a photo from LR verses completely deleting from the disk.
However when I try to "delete a photo from disk" through light room it remains on my disk no matter what i do.
I do click the option "delete from disk" verses "remove" from LR
any ideas on what is happening here?Um, very interesting. I have my images located on an EHD and backed up to another EHD (thank heavens) because something very strange happened today which I believe now explains previously lost images. With LR open but no editing taking place I happened to look inside the Recycle Bin (Windows). Low and behold within the Bin were six images that were previously contained within the catalogue and somehow mysteriously relocated to the Recycle Bin. Reducing LR's on-screen window size I then expanded the Recycle Bin window so now I had both open on screen. Upon exiting LR the icons for the missing images disappeared from the Recycle Bin so the question is, were they never there really, were the icons in the Bin simply ghosts or did LR simply delete images of it's own free will? Either way, I never now leave LR open whilst doing other work, and most certainly when empyting the Recycle Bin.
And yes, briefly back OT - I too have noticed on many an occasion LR not deleting images from disk when requested, only from the catalogue. In this instance what I do is a fresh import which of course shows these images as being the latest import at the top of the tree and with only these images shown in the main library window. When selecting all and opting for Delete from Disk they are in fact completely deleted and end up in the Recycle Bin. -
MY Lr is not responding to any process due to the following: Lr is asking " Delete the selected master photo from disk,or just remove it from Lr" the options are delete from disk, remove, cancel. Cancel doesn't work the other two options are deleting my photos which is not what it's required.
Yes it is but a good idea to backup your computer once in awhile

When I take all the raw images from my card and put in a new folder on my desktop. I then move folder to my pictures folder on a MAC/lightroom 4.Then open up LR and select onlyy images I am interested in and (remove from disk) ones I don't want. Then import to lightroon, for some reason they are still in folder in pictures?
It is not very clear what you are exactly doing.
Did you import them all and want to delete after importing , then :
The choice you get is:
Remove ( from Lightroom) and
Delete from Disk, it is only the latter that will delete them from your disk.
During import you can not delete not selected files.

error occurs when installing software from disk, error event 59 the application has failed because its sidebyside
configuration is incorrect. please help in solving this problem. It applies to all software installing from disk
ThanksHello @usteve,
I understand that your desktop computer is producing an error message when you are attempting to install software using the DVD/CD drive, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To enable your system to install software from your DVD/CD drive, I recommend following the steps in this document on this application failed to start because side-by-side-configuration is incorrect. This should help correct any file corruptions that are preventing software from being installed from a disc.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!
