Delete iCal 5 and restore iCal 4 on Mac OS X Lion

Hi,
I just got Mac OS X Lion and a new 15" MacBook Pro and I hate the new iCal 5.0.  Not just the appearence of it (which i know can be changed back to the monochromatic) but the way the text isn't color coded to the calendar.
I still have iCal 4.0 on my old mac.  Is it possible to somehow delete iCal 5.0 and install iCal 4.0.  Or download a copy of iCal 4.0 to overwrite this new one.
I don't know if you need to go into terminal etc. but I really want to restore iCal 4.0. (and trying to drag and drop the program from Time Machine was unsucessful.
thanks!!!

You would break the System by trying such hacks.
iCal ( like Adressbook and Mail )  is more then just the app , it depends on frameworks and extensions throughout the OS.
Also Oct 12 iCloud is in full swing. As you might now, iCal is a big part of it. You would therefore not only break the OS severly but also defect the syncing engine of OSX so much that iCloud might never work on your OS .
Future Updates will also not install or damage more.
Stick with what's in Lion, else go back to Snow.

I dont have any contact detail of that person whom i had bought this phone..

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must contact the previous owner to get permission to use the device. If you cannot contact the previous owner return the device to where you bought it and get a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.

And yes, you need LOTS of Internet to get the latest cat. The installer file is just 4.5GB in size, so on most internet connections it will take awhile to download. Once that happens, you will have a choice to install it on top of your existing Lion partition, or onto a different one, that can even be a totally blank one.
Since you probably don't want to redo the wait, be sure to quit the installer as soon as it finishes downloading and starts up automatically. Then save the installer (called "Install OS X Mountain Lion", and found in your Applications folder) onto another disk before going thru with the installation. When it concludes, it will erase itself.

  • Need to delete all data and restore computer to factory state !

Hi - please help. I have made a mistake - I tried to migrate data from my iMac to my brand new MacBook Pro (no idea why !) , and I have way too much data. The MacBook memory is full already. I therefore want to delete everything and restore the MacBook to its factory state. I have already deleted and reinstalled OX S thinking this would do it but it hasn't. The issue is it says the disk is full but I can't see any files or folders to delete. Where are they ? And how can I delete them all ? Please help - I am very excited about my MacBook Pro and within 24 hours its clogged up

    Power off your MacBook.
Hold down the "Option" button while starting up the computer. You may let go once you see the spinning dial below the apple.
Using the arrow keys, navigate to 10.8 Recovery and press enter.
Select your language and go into Disk Utility.
Click on your hard drive (not "Macintosh HD," the one above that with the brand name, model, and capacity).
    Go to the "Erase" tab.
Make sure the volume type is set to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)," and click the "Erase" button on the bottom of the window (not "Erase Free Space," that will do nothing), and choose how secure you want the erase to be. The less secure the faster it will go. For a hard drive with a capacity of 128 GB this can take anywhere from 3 hours (least secure) to 24 hours or more (most secure).
Go through the same process you did to reinstall the operating system.
You should be good to go.

  • DELETE EVERY SONG AND RESTORE FACTORY SETTINGS?!

How do I delete every song off my ipod and restore the factory settings?

Try these articles for some help.
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301267
If you are using a Toshiba laptop (possibly even if you are not), check this out.
iPod not recognized correctly on Toshiba laptop:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836
You could also try formatting the iPod with Windows, which would check and get rid of any problems with the iPod hard drive. Its also useful when the computer recognises the iPod, but the updater doesn't. After this, you should be able to restore using the updater and things should be back to normal.
    To format with Windows
Firstly, you need to put the iPod into disk mode manually.
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Then, on your PC, go "My Computer" and right click on the iPod (which will be shown as a drive, eg. E), then choose "Format". Make sure that the settings are at "Default" and that "Quick Format" is not checked. Now select "Format". This process could take a while, but once it's done, open the iPod updater and select restore.
If needed, reset the iPod to exit disk mode. To do this, switch the hold button on, then off, then hold both the menu and center buttons for 6-10 secs until the apple logo shows. This may take a few attempts to get working.
Hopefully after this your iPod should be back to normal.

  • How to delete iCal sync in .Mac

I want to delete my iCal info (from my syncs) in .Mac. I created a mess and I want to start over. Problem is when I sync I retrieve the messy info saved on my .mac???
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    fredericlang,
Follow the procedures list in...How to reset .Mac Sync: If your .Mac Sync begins to behave oddly, resetting the sync is a good troubleshooting step. It's essentially a "do-over," in case the computer got confused.
If you are going to reset the sync data, make sure to reset it from the computer that has the most up-to-date information on it. If you sync between computers with different versions of Mac OS X, try to reset the sync data from the computer with Mac OS X 10.4, if possible. Here's how to reset .Mac Sync....;~)

  • What is the proper way to delete video transitions and restore clips?

I guess this is a two parter.. In the case where you overlap two clips and add a cross-fade, etc., and when you butt two clips together and do a 3D-spin, etc. I am talking about when you are long past using Command-Z to backup. I'd like to restore adjacent clips to their original state before overlaping and/or adding transitions.
     20" Intel iMac (2.0GB RAM, 256MB VRAM, 500GB HD)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

well, i can think of the best way to restore if you think you're gonna get into a transition heavy sequence.
duplicate your cuts only sequence and add transitions to your duplicate. i often create duplicate sequences and than add a word or two as well as the date as an identifier. when i'm done with the project, i delete the unused sequences or keep them around if i think i may reuse something.
otherwise, what is wrong with just selecting the transition and deleting?

  • Delete windows os and restore to mac os?

Hello, I am a new mac user so "dumbed down answers" would be greatly appreciated : )
My boss gave me his macbook pro because he didn't really like it for whatever reason. While he had it he had windows os installed on it. I would like to erase it and revert back to the original condition with the mac os. I do have all the original discs that came with it. Is this possible? Also, how do I go about doing this? Thanks!!!

What model year is your Mac? If it is a Late 2011 or newer you can use the Online Internet Recovery system to complete erase the drive and reinstall OS X.
If it is older than a early 2011 then you will need the original system discs that came with it to reinstall that version of OS X. Or if it is a late released, after june 2011, Early 2011 model you might still be able to use the Online Internet Recovery system.
One way to tell is to reboot the system and hold down the Command + Option/Alt + r key until you see a globe on the screen. If you see a globe then you might be able to reinstall the original shipping version of OS X from the Apple online servers. If you get no globe or a globe but are unable to reinstall OS X from the screen that comes up then it is a model year before the download only version of OS X came out and you will need the original system discs. If you are your boss do not have them a replacement set can be ordered from Apple for a small charge.

  • Creating an image from a Mac and restoring it in another Mac

    Hi,
I've spent a couple of hours trying to make a copy of one of my macminis, trying to copy it in another macmini to have the SAME machine "duplicated".
I've read some tutorials online, but something is going wrong....
First of all, I went to my "master" macmini, DiskUtility, create new image from folder, select my macintosh HD and I created the image of the whole HD.
Almost a hour after, the image was created.
Then I moved the .dmg to a USB drive, and I connected the USB pen to the machine that I want to be a "clone" of the master. There, I opened Disk Utility, Restore, I selected the Source image from my USB, but I can't selected (=drag) the Macintosh HD into the "destination" field...
    What I'm doing wrong?
Thanks, any help is appreciated :))

    Hi sr.richie;
If you are booted from Macintosh HD then the system will not allow this cloning operation to take place. You must boot from another disk in order to do that.

  • ICloud Password to Insert and Remove Account from your Mac with Mountain Lion for better Security

    Hello
In fact I would put one in Schedule TIP for Apple, which would give greater security for users of the Mountain Lion operating system, or any other that supports iCloud.
Would putting an administrator password to remove the iCloud account from your computer, once again, that only with her that if you can find the mac, alert by Find My Mac
Otherwise, anyone who steals your mac, or act in bad faith, it can handle, and remove or simply log off from your account iCloud, and beyond what I think most serious, which is losing function of my Search Mac, and contact settings, calendar, among others.
As with the iPhone, iPad, iPod .... RESTRICTIONS have the option, which many users do not use because they do not know, more is NOT a function that allows a thief eg delete your iCloud account from your device when you turn to that does not allow changes to Accounts and Location.
That it should have, or simply their own password to enter, and REMOVE the computer. What would bring much greater security for us users. This all in both IOS and in OS X. All to remove your iCloud account password needed.
Or creating a menu PRIVACY, you chose for which adjustments or applications, you'd want it to be password request, the type for Mail or Skype, although the computer is personal, but there is that possibility of someone picks open it and move on that should not.
I ask that Apple is to sensitize the issue, and we help users to develop a system better and safer.
    Sincerely,

  • Partitioning and Installing Windows 7 with Mac OS X Lion

    Hi
after failing seriously with the partitioning after installing Win 7, I hope that I will find some help from the scratch...
I want to install OS X Lion with Win 7.
3 Partitions with Mac are needed and 1 fro Windows.
I got 750Gb on my Mac Book Pro.
    Disk should look like this:
    100Gb Main Partition (Mac)
    200Gb Documents Partition (Mac)
    300Gb Stuff and Games (Mac)
    150Gb Windows 7 Partition
I tried now to create a 100Gb Partition for Mac and a 150Gb Partition for Windows 7.
After Installing the Mac OS, I was trying to add the 2 other Partitions, but it already telling me that i'm gonna loose my Windows Boot when I change the Partitions. I pressed ok and restarted with the windows 7 DVD for the recovery, which wasn't working due to version incompability -.- (I installed Windows from that DVD)
What steps should I make to get this to work? Some guys says that it not gonna work, but a friend of min has 3 mac partitions and a windows. Sadly he can't remember the way to this setup
    Thank you for the help

Try installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion.  Here are some PowerPC applications running concurrently with Lion:

  • Exporting and restoring contacts database

We needed to delete all contacts and restore to a backup saved earlier in the day.  Seemed pretty simple.  After deleting all contacts (not group folders) and importing the .abbu file, NONE of the contacts were in their appropriate group folders.  What?  All were only in the All Contacts list.  We had to manually restore the contacts to each group from our own aging memory.  This is unbelievable!  Since when does a full data backup not save the folders and links in each one?

    Hi,
As Defcom suggests the Mac Version of AIM for Mac Can Export the Buddy list (And Import it in to a new screen Name.
    Other options.
Set up the New Screen Name in ichat then Drag the Buddies for one list to another.
I would do this in stages (small Numbers to make sure no-one is missed)
Don't forget to Use the Show Off Line Buddies in the File Menu.
OR you can make sure every buddy has some addition Info added to their Info Card
(Highlight a Buddy and do a Get Info to bring up the Card)
This will add them to the Address Book.
Then Open the Address Book and Drag the middle Name Column to the Buddy list.
Those with iChat valid Screen Names will get added to the Buddy List.
    NOTE:
There is one or two draw backs to this method.
Those Address Book contacts that have MobileMe or @Mac.com names linked to MobileMe as valid Email Address (But not using them with iChat) also get added.
The Second is that someone can tell you their Google Mail ID is @gmail.com where in fact it is @googleMail.com
This works for Mail but not for iChat and these may also get added as Buddies.

How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

    So what is your question?
If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.
    The above comes from here:

  • How can I restore deleted iCal events without removing current events?

I have just discovered that iCal on my Laptop has been deleting events older than 30 days (as per the default), even though it's supposed to be syncing via MobileMe with my iMac which has this disabled.
I have made backups and exports from iCal in the past. The former, iCal backup files, will apparently overwrite the whole calendar and restore it back to that point in time, which is surely rather useless? If there's a way to use one of these files without deleting new events, then please let me know.
I did import a previous export taken in August 2007, but that still leaves a large gap.
I have also been backing my iMac up in TimeMachine for the past year - is there a way to restore my Calendar this way without reverting new events?

    Hi crcamp1,
If you have multiple backups, your previous backup may still be available.  Details are found in this article.
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes - Apple Support
    Where your backups are stored
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on your computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.
Restoring is further discussed at the bottom of this article.
