Delete imported photos from iPhone camera roll?

In iPhoto, after importing photos from my iPhone I would get a prompt to delete the photos that had just been imported from the camera roll. Since the Photo Stream was implemented though, most photos would have already been imported through iCloud before I connected the phone to my Mac. iPhoto would then give an option to remove all photos that had already been imported.
The new Photos app no longer appears to have this option. I can tick to delete items after import, but I can't automatically remove all items in the camera roll that have already been imported. If I go and manually delete those photos from the camera roll on the phone, it also deletes them from the Photo Stream, and they disappear on my Mac and iPad as well.
I'm not subscribed to iCloud Photo Library. How can I make sure that all my photos continue to import onto my Mac and stay there, without keeping all the originals on the phone forever?

Yes... a real surprise (not a pleasant one)
Only workaround I know of (and have used already in testing and getting setup) is to use the Image Capture app in your main Applications folder (a standard OS X utility).
After you've imported your pictures manually from your iPhone to Photos, you can run this app and then delete what you will.
I imagine the reason for this is that PhotoStream should be taking care of this. You don't need to have the iCloud Library turned on for this to work, and photos should import automatically.
However, there are three issues with this:
Buggy: I found (at least prior to iOS 8.3) that not all of my photos on my iPhone went to the Photo Stream... never did find out why some didn't make it.
Buggy again: Many people are having issues with the latest releases getting Photo Stream to sync from an iPhone
You don't want your photos in Apple's domain.
In which case, using another app to mass delete your photos on your iPhone is (for now), your only choice.

Also to add to what Ana said, if you've been importing http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 to your computer as you would a digital camera.  Then you can sync http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236 them back to your phone using iTunes.

  • Is there a way to delete a photo from the CAMERA ROLL without deleting the same photo from an album?

My camera roll album is too big so I set up different albums to 'move' the phots out of the camera roll.  After I moved photos I went to delete the photo from the 'camera roll album' but when I did, it deleted the photos from the other album I moved the photo to. Is there anyway to remove from camera roll while keeping it in the particular album?.

    "Why doesn't Apple fix this ?  "
Because it is not broken.  it works exactly as intended.
"If Microsoft can do it certainly apple could figure it out."
Apple has it figured out.  That is what is on the iphone.

  • HT4847 i deleted some photos from my camera roll on ipad by mistake trying to get more icloud storage.  can i get them back?

I was trying to free up icloud storage in order to back up my iphone 5 using my ipad.  I mistakenly deleted some photos from my camera roll and they were deleted from both iphone and ipad photo albums.  Can I retrieve them somehow or are they gone forever?  Now I read that doesn't help to free up space...not sure what does free up space so I can back up my phone again.  Help!

Are you sure you deleted them from your camera roll and not from photo stream.

  • HT201302 How do I delete a photo from my camera roll and not delete it from a folder

When I delete photos from my camera roll, it also deletes them from the folder I've saved them in. How do I delete from the camera roll and not lose them from the folder?

"When I delete photos from my camera roll, it also deletes them from the folder I've saved them in. "
Correct.  There is only one photo and it is in the camera roll.  The folders you create are just a way to organize the pics.  it does not create a duplicate pic.
Just as a song is in your library and a playlist, a pic is in the camera roll and the folder.
If you delete a song from the library, then it is gone.  The same is true of pics.

  • Can I delete my photos from my camera roll and they still be in my photo scream and on my computer?

Can I delete all my photos from my camera roll and still have those photos in my photo stream and on my computer? Or if I delete those photos, will they also be deleted from my photo stream and my computer?

Photos deleted out of the camera roll will not delete out of Photostream. However you want to make sure that you save your photos in your photostream somewhere before they are deleted on thier 31st day.

  • When I try to import photos from my camera roll on iPhone, I can't see them in the import on Aperture

I'm using Aperture(3.5.1) on my iMac(10.9.4). I've connected the IOS device(5S) to the computer, opened Aperture and tried to import from the camera roll on my iPhone. Photos that I see in the camera roll don't show up in the Aperture import window, though I can see them in the camera roll on the phone. In fact, since aug. 23, 2014, none of my iPhone photos show up in the import window.
I've shut down my iPhone and my iMac and restarted both, but no change.
I'm aware Aperture is going away soon. I'd like to get these photos off my phone and into Aperture so when the big merge comes, I won't be missing anything.

Could the photos already have been imported to Aperture using Photo Stream? The Import window will not show them, if the option "Do not import Duplicates" is active and the photos are already in the library.
Check any Import option in the Import settings, that might be excluding photos from importing.

  • How do I delete multiple photos from the Camera Roll?

How do I delete multiple photos from camera roll without doing it one at a time?

Thanks for your posts on this - it's something I've been wondering about, too.
I do agree with Bonzo that it seems strange that there isn't a way to do it *efficiently* without having to hook the iPad to a computer.
I know there is an alternative: in other words, you're right, Lawrence - it is possible to delete multiple files at once by following your instructions (i.e. tapping on each photo once, etc.) - but if you want to delete lots of photos, it takes ages to tap on every one of them.
Does anyone else out there know of a way to delete multiple photos on the iPad/iPhone/iPod touch without having to tap on each photo separately, or having to hook up to a computer?
I'd be really grateful for any help on this. Thanks!

  • Can you help me delete imported photos from iPhone (4s) running ios 7?

I made (what appears to be) the mistake of importing photos from my PC to my new iPhone 4s using itunes.  They now seem to be permanent occupants.  I can select them (in the "Moments" view in the Photos app)  but the trash can on lower right is always grayed out.  It appears that in ios 6 they could be deleted in the Settings/General/Usage (I also synced over some music which is deletable here).  Can anyone help me?

Thank you razmee, I will give that a shot and get back to you.  I was just looking at that grayed out trashcan icon an thinking there was probably a way to light it up.

  • Best way to remove photos from iPhone camera roll

what is the simplest method for removing a LOT of photos from my iPhone 5S camera roll. I am trying not to remove them one at a time.

So, I am a bit confused.  But, thank you for being succinct.  I appreciate that very much!
    1.  I have imported them to Aperture; so they are on my iMac.
    2. What I do not exactly understand is your next instruction: "your computer should read your iphone as a camera, you can navigate to the folders that contain the picture in your camera roll and select all and delete."
Could you walk me through that, please?  Just a tiny bit more explaining, and I think I will catch on!
    Many thanks!

  • I have a photo in an album and in camera roll. I am trying to delete the photo from the camera rol and the only option that i get is : delete everywhere?     Noooooo i just want to delete it from camera roll!!!!!

I have the same photo in an album and in camera roll. I am trying to delete the photo from the camera rol and the only option that i get is : delete everywhere?     Noooooo i just want to delete it from camera roll!!!!!

The way that I understand that it works, is that the photos are not copied into the new albums, instead it just points to the photos - the number of photos on the iPad in Settings > General > About doesn't increase when you create new album so I assume from that that it isn't copying the photo, just pointing to it. So if you delete the photo from the camera roll you will therefore also be deleting all the pointers to it

I receive an error message when I attempt to import the photos on my iPhone or my iPad into iPhotos.......the error messages states that I have "unreadable files".

OK, So I found out that I can only import photos from my Camera Roll only. I did try to transfer the photos from my PC to my MAC using Migration Assistant. Both my PC and my MAC are on the same Network, but the two computers never connect. Anyone know how to remedy this?

Is there a way to recover deleted photos from your Camera Roll?

You may be able to restore from backup if they were there when you last synced.

  • How do I delete photos from my Camera roll in iOS 7

I have over 1,000 photos in my iPhone Camera Roll.  I would like to delete all the photos in the Camera Roll.  How do I do this efficiently in iOS 7?

    Hi mikeschumann,
Of course you can delete photos from your Camera Roll:
Go into your photos app and select the Camera Roll album
Click on Select at the top right of the screen
Select the photos you want to delete
Click on the Trash can at the bottom of the screen
Just remember, if you have not imported those photos into a photo app on a computer, they will be permanently deleted. You may have them on an iCloud backup, but each backup you do has only the image of the current state of your device. So, if the 1000 photos have been backed up in the last iCloud backup you do, then you delete them, and do another iCloud backup, that backup will not have those photos. Then, say, you take another 100 new photos, and back up to iCloud. That backup will have the most recent 100 photos, but not the 1000 previously backed up.
So, your best bet is to import them to your photo app on your computer, and then select delete photos from device when asked.
    Cheers,
