Delete ipod backup

Hi, I get the error message "iTunes could not back up the iPod because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPod. Delete the backup for this iPod, then try again." How do I delete the backup? Thanks.

The iPod backup file(s) are here:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

  • I think I deleted my Backup from my old iPod

Shalom! I just received a replacement iPod touch (32GB). On my old iPod it had all my pics, apps, games etc. Once I loaded the new iPod it said the software was too old so I updated it. After updating it said to restore the new iPod but when I restored it I didn;t see my old iPod stuff from before. Did I just replace and remove my old backup settings?! Is there anyway to retrieve my old backup from my old iPod backup???

If you go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices do you see a backup of your old iPod. You want a backup dated before you connected the replacment iPod to your computer. If there is one,do the following:
    - Turn off autosyncing to prevent overwritting that backup. Do that by checking the box in iTunes>Prefrences>Deices that says: "Prevent iPods... syncing".
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and restore from backup. For restoring from backup see the restoring topic of:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software
Note that the backup does not contain app, music and other synced items.  Those must be in your iTunes library to be restored to the iPod. For what the backup contains see:
    iTunes: About iOS backups

  • Can you restore an iPhone from an iPod backup?

    Hi Everybody,
I plan on buying an iPhone 4S (64 GB Black) on Friday, and have been using an iPod Touch 2nd Generation (8 GB) for over a year and a half. I love my iPod, and have a lot of pictures, data from apps, et cetera stored on it, and I would obviously want them on my shiny new iPhone, running the way they did on my iPod. I am especially concerned with game progress, as I love my iPod as a gaming machine and hope that my progress would transfer over to my iPhone.
I'm wondering if I will have the option of "restoring" my new iPhone from the iPod backup. This would save me a LOT of time.
If so, how much of the data would sync over? Would it be literally everything?
Lastly, would data from apps I've deleted also be synced over to the iPhone? I have way more than 8 GB worth of apps, and I've deleted some of them along the way. They're still stored on my computer, but no longer on my iPod. Would their data be on the iPhone if I reinstalled them on my iPhone?
The iPod touch is running iOS 4.2.1, and the iPhone will be running iOS 5.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my question, and I hope you can help! It's certainly appreciated!
    Colin W.

When I got my iPhone 4 earlier this year, I was able to select my 2G Touch's backup to transfer all my app data, preferences, etc. over to the iPhone.  There's no guarantee this will work with iOS 5 and iPhone 4S, but I don't see why not.
But assuming that is will work as in the past, during the iPhone setup process you will be prompted to either set it up as a new device or from a backup. If you select your Touch's backup then all the settings and preferences you've set on the Touch will be applied to the iPhone (minus passwords, for security reasons).  If you have any media (apps, music, etc.) in your library that are not currently on your Touch, all you need to do is tweak your iPhone's sync settings to pick additional (or different) items.
However, one caveat that I learned from my experience -- As the iPhone setup proceeds, it will get to a point where everything's set up, but it has not sync'd anything yet (I think by default it will wait until you click the Sync button). Before you sync the iPhone to your library, eject the iPhone and go into the iPhone's settings and sign into your iTunes account, then re-connect to iTunes and then sync your content. If you don't sign in before syncing you may get error 13 (that drove me batty until I figured this out).
Also, if you're going to continue using the Touch, then I'd recommend re-naming your iPhone after it is set up so that subsequent backups of the two devices are easily distinguished from each other, in case someday you want to restore from a backup.

  • Can I delete old backups from other devices if my new iphone 6 has a current backup with everything on my new phone?

Can I delete old backups from other devices if my new iphone 6 has a current backup with everything on my new phone?

    Hi there dyarrell,
You can do this if you are confident that your current device has all of the data on it that you want to keep. The method for deleting the backup will be differnt depending on the backup method. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • Where does my ipod backup go?

    Hey guys,
everytime I connect my ipod to my computer, it backs up
I dont want this to happen anymore becasue i now have very less space on my Home Backup E and i do not want to fill it with my ipod backup.
So can you guys please tell me where my ipod backs up to so i can delete previious backups and can you guys also tell me how to turn the backing up option off?

You can set your backup into iCloud which is a online data saving place. Once you your iDevice connected to iTunes, you will see a thing that says the name of the ipod, go there and go to "Summary". It offers a thing that says Automatically Backup, select iCloud.
There you go. If there is a way to change so no backup occurs, I do not know it! Hopefully this works!

  • Backup damaged - delete the backup?

    Hi all,
last week itunes crashed during synching my ipod nano. The capacity of the ipod seems to be too small for my huge mediabank. Whatever, now itunes does not synch my iphone 3GS anymore which is even worse.
Itunes posts a messange that says "itunes could not backup Saschas iphone, because the backup is damaged or it is not compatible to iphone" Please delete the backup and try again."
Does anybody knopw where I can delete the backup? I could not find anything about it in the itunes menuebar.
    Thx in advance 2 all

Hi I encountered the same problem, except that it happened when I tried to upgrade to OS4.2.
If I do what is suggested above, will all my setting/apps/pictures, etc be erased from the phone?
    Thank you very much..

  • IPhone 4S restored from iPod backup

Hi my son is getting my iPhone 4S and I restored it from a backup taken from his iPod touch, only problem is we have lost everything associated with the cellular side of the iPhone. Is there a way in which this can be done without losing the phone options

I'm having the same problem. I just bought the 5s and tried to restore my previous phone backup. I have tried everything - updating all the software, rebooting, restoring defaults etc. Then, out of frustration, I tried to restore a very old backup and it worked, except that didn't help me because it's over 2 years old. So i know it's not the new phone. I'm completely puzzled. Lots of people on here are saying to find and delete the backup on your hard drive, but  I can't even find that on my computer (I have no hidden files). Anyway, I have Windows Vista. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

  • "Delete All Backups" command not working...

I just started using Time Machine for the first time about a month ago with my new MacBook Pro. Recently, it started notifying me that it was out of space and automatically deleting the oldest backups, which I thought was odd, because my external Time Machine backup partition is 500GB and my startup disk only had 150GB of data (on a 260GB partition). Well, after checking the backups I quickly found the problem. I have three partitions on my internal drive, and Time Machine was backing them all up (I had thought Time Machine would only back up my startup disk). So I added the other two partitions to the "disks to Exclude list". That part worked and my new backups only include my startup drive. But I want to get rid of the all the backups of my other partitions, so I opened up Time Machine and tried to manually delete their backups, but it's not working.
I've read that you can select the volumes/folders and choose the "Delete all backups of ..." option to remove them. I also read that it should take some time to complete this. But it's been over 24 hours and still it hasn't removed any of the backups I want to get rid of. And there seems to be no activity on the Time Machine drive. So what gives? Why isn't Time Machine honoring my request to delete all backups of these partitions/folders? I've repeated the process a few times, and each time the authentication dialog appears and my password is accepted, so everything looks like it should work, but it hasn't.
My first thought was that maybe Time Machine won't delete the backup of a folder/partition that it's already excluding. So I turned off automatic Time Machine backups, and removed the two partition volumes from my exclude list and then tried again to delete all their backups. It's been a few hours since then, and still nothing is deleting. How long should it take? And is there some trick to manually deleting the backups outside of Time Machine that I could try?
I guess if nothing else I could try and reformat the Time Machine backup disk and start over, but I shouldn't have to right? This is really puzzling...

    SOLVED!
Yes, It appears that Time Machine CANNOT delete files that are locked for some reason.
that's not true. it's perfectly capable of doing that.
Originally I assumed that since I could not delete a file directly from within the Time Machine volume's "Backups.backupdb" subfolders, that I would not be able to unlock it. But you can! I simply located the files in the backup, chose Get Info on them and un-checked their "Locked" checkbox.
something is really wrong with your backups. you should not even be able to unlock any locked files in TM backups as they should be all protected by hidden ACLs to prevent people from messing with them from finder.
And the lock status change took effect! Then went back to Time Machine and chose "Delete All Backups of..." and selected the volume in that backup, and they instantly disappeared!!!
That's pretty strong empirical proof that Time Machine has a problem with locked files.
no, it's a strong evidence that your TM backups are messed up.
I have repeated it with about a dozen various files that were locked and all behaved the exact same way. So I think this is pretty strong evidence to a "bug" in Time Machine!

Follow the steps in wjosten's post here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13356770#13356770 (for Windows, substitute Outlook in step 2).
