Delete library cache

I deleted my some of user library  cache ...however, a bloc of items required entering my keychain/login pw to delete....so I thought twice and here I am asking if the cache items requiring a pw are also safe to delete?

I've still got a Lion Server (hopefully moving to ML Server today if I can get the farking certs to work right) so that's good to know.  To give my post context (in case others arrive here) what brought me and to Apple Care and back was the fact I was getting random hard lockups on my system (albeit, custom built).  I would see these in the logs every time:
12/19/12 1:06:13.000 PM kernel[0]: Sandbox: sandboxd(89688) deny mach-lookup com.apple.coresymbolicationd
12/30/12 11:41:50.000 AM kernel[0]: Sandbox: sandboxd(79986) deny mach-lookup com.apple.coresymbolicationd
12/30/12 1:07:13.000 PM kernel[0]: Sandbox: sandboxd(6043) deny mach-lookup com.apple.coresymbolicationd
1/3/13 10:49:11.000 AM kernel[0]: Sandbox: sandboxd(174) deny mach-lookup com.apple.coresymbolicationd
Deleted cache, still locked up
1/3/13 1:55:00.000 PM kernel[0]: Sandbox: sandboxd(10713) deny mach-lookup com.apple.coresymbolicationd
I couldn't find any infoz on "com.apple.coresymbolicationd" but found it in the cache.  After finding out it was OK to delete the cache, I tried again.  Still locked up.  I then found a .plist file in /system/library/launchdaemons and moved it.  Not a lockup since (fingers crossed).
I know that's not info you asked for, but I like to provide what I can in case other folks happen upon it.
Have a great weekend!

is it safe to delete the cache file folder from library ?

As I understand it Robo doesn't really 'do' third-party
source control. We use SourceGear Vault, but really only as a
repository for the files. We can't really work concurrently because
Robo needs exclusive access to the top level project files. But it
kind of works for us, because we're on opposite sides of the globe.
I see what you're saying on the 'local' versions of (say) the
cpd files conflicting. If anyone else has an informed view, I'm all
ears. We've set it up this way ourselves - I don't know of anyone
doing the same. If someone tells me this is a bad idea, I'm happy
    to think again.
    Cheers!

  • How can I access deleted photos from my iPhoto Library Cache?

My Macbook Pro broke about a year ago and I recently took the hard drive out to access the files. I have a hard drive enclosure to USB to my Acer (Windows) Laptop. I was looking through all the folders when I came across this: D:\Users\Lizee\Library\Caches\Desktop\iPhoto Albums
In this folder is a list of different albums I have had over the years and in the albums there are photo files, but I cannot view them! This gives me hope that maybe there is a way to salvage and get back some of the photos I once deleted! Please let me know if you know ANY way I can get any of these photos back... I will do anything!

I don't believe there is any way to do what you want. These are not your photos.

  • Hi I would like to know if I can delete my file fpsaud (Library Cache) because my app Clean my mac cannot do it. Is this operation dangerous? Thanks

Hi I would like to know if I can delete my file psaud (Library Cache) because my App Mac Cleanse cannot do it. Can I move this this manually into the trash? Is it dangerous? Thanks

You should have stopped after the first paragraph, because that was the only helpful part. You managed to sarcastically tell the questioner that he or she is dumb, throw in a couple of tidbits to convince any reader how smart you must be, and discourage any further learning.
I saw nowhere in the original question where marcozroberto was complaining about speed.
Caches, to us lesser mortals, are one of the first culprits that come to mind when all the cookies (including smart cookies) and browser cache have been erased, yet the ads on Web pages still want to know if I'd like to find a date tonight in my specific area code. So, I turn to sites like the Apple discussion pages to find out what other pieces of memory I have to flush to feel less stalked.  According to you, I shouldn't bother my poor head learning about this machine I bought, I should just trust  manufacturers and programmers to manage everything.
I doubt fpsaud is really the problem with my browsing (my next guess is the IP address), but I won't learn that here.

It says 'To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it.'
However I only have one account. I've tried to sign out and in several times. But it doesn't work. I do remember changing my password recently. Secondly I'd like to add that I got this macbook air 3 days ago. I'm a first time mac user. It had three updates initially. Mountain lion 10.8.2, iphoto and the imovie. I updated the mountain lion, thinking I'd get the iphoto and imovie done later. However now this problem has come up. Thanks for responding. Hoping to hear from you soon again regarding this.

  • Library Cache for Adobe Bridge CS4

I'm trying to clear up space on my harddrive for my macbook, and in my library folder, there is a cache folder which then has various adobe products.  The Adobe Bridge CS4 folder has almost 20 GB of stuff in it.  Can I get rid of this (safe to delete)?  Why does it build up so much?  Do I need to periodically manage this manually?  Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

The cache folder for Bridge can grow to huge proportions because it keeps
information for all earlier cached files. After quitting Bridge you can
delete this folder (user library/caches /Adobe/Bridge CS4/cache) by dragging
this to the trash and empty bin to make space on your HD.
Restarting Bridge creates a brand new cache folder in this place but this
one is empty. Therefore you will need to recache all files you want to show
at high quality in the preview window again because with deleting this data
the cache with all previews (including the HQ preview that are mainly
responsible for the huge size) from previous cached files will also be gone.
Personally I use this method on a regular base including restarting Bridge
holding down option key to refresh preferences, this gives a fresh start for
    Bridge.
I mainly use Bridge for sorting, rating and adding metadata and once the DNG
files I want have been developed they are transferred to my archive and
don't need to be in the cache file anymore
So with keep in mind that you need to recache the current files you are
using (takes some time depending on amount and size of the files you can
safely delete the current huge cache file.
Can I get rid of this (safe to delete)?  Why does it build up so much?  Do I
need to periodically manage this manually?

    Hi,
I developed a web application using HTML5-Offline Application Cache mechanism. Inspite of deleting the cache as mentioned in the above steps, Firefox still maintains a copy of the page in it's cache. Also, a serious bug is, even though we delete all temp files used by Firefox, and open the previously cached page, it displays it correctly, but upon refreshing/reloading it again shows the previous version of the page maintained in the cache.

We have had this issue many, many times before including on the latest 3.6 rev. It appears that when the applicationCache has an update triggered by a new manifest file, the browser may still use only its local network cache to check for updates to the files in the manifest, instead of forcing an HTTP request and revalidating both the browser cache and the applicationCache versions of the cached file (seems there is more than one). I have to assume this is a browser bug, as one should not have to frig with server Cache-Control headers and such to get this to work as expected (and even then it still doesn't sometimes).
The only thing that seems to fix the problem is setting network.http.use-cache to false (default is true) in about:config . This helps my case because we only ever run offline (applicationCache driven) apps in the affected browser (our managed mobile apps platform), but it will otherwise slow down your browser experience considerably.

  • Saving the domain file in iWeb fails. I have tried deleting the cache. I see that the file uploads to iWeb but the message is that the domain.sites2 file can't be saved. I note that duplicating the domain gives me different size files. Ideas?

I have read other discussions and my problem persists.
I note that duplicating the domain file user/library/applications support/iweb/domain.sites2 gives me files of varying sizes (I'm at around 200Mb).
I tried rebuilding the cache ../library/caches/com.apple.iweb - no change
I found a note to delete also a preference file ../library/prefernces/com.apple.iweb   bt found more than one (.../plist and .../plist.lockfile) so ducked that.
The website seems to update out of sync - as if I have a domain file elsewhere (in the cloud?) that is saving on my drive later - that doesn't make sense of the comments I have read. My domain.sites2 file is stadily growing - so one interpretation is that files are being saved and the error message is the error.
This has been a problem for about a year as I have tried many alternative solutions. I;m looking fro somethign substantially different.
One repeated situation is that I write a new page and upload it. I get the usual error message. I visit the site and there is the new page. My domain (on my machine) shows no new work, so I copy the stuff on the web back to my domain and steadily the file increases in size. Bewildering.
Everything is as up to date as it can be. I don't reboot very often as my machine is rarley off.
I'm looking for different ideas and approaches.....

Although some of the following will be a repeat but try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Is it safe to delete ALL caches and/or receipts?

is it safe to delete ALL files and folders under "user/library/caches"? I was surprised to see how big it has gotten. and is it safe to delete "macintosh hd/library/caches"?
how about receipts located in "user/library/receipts" and/or in "macintosh hd/library/receipts"?
    how about unders "user/library/preferences"?
    thanks for the help.

Regarding receipts, as already provided check these links.

Regarding the preference files at Home > Library > Preferences, these are the preference files for your applications and the Finder, etc. so if deleted for a particular application, this will require resetting your preferred preference settings for the application. If there is a preference file available for an application you have deleted, the application's preference file can also be deleted but these preference files take up very little hard drive space and cause no adverse effects if not deleted when the associated application is deleted.
Are you trying to free up hard drive space? If so, check this link.

  • What is user's library/caches used for ?

It appears to not to be backed up by Time Machine - which can not show anything earlier than the latest version.
It contains items that suggest that it is regularly used by Apple software (e.g., Safari - for bookmarks?)
It appears to be used by some manufacturers (e.g., Garmin) for device software updates - including a very large one that used 2.3 GB and stayed there after the Garmin map update was installed.  (I was running low on hard drive space, so I took a deep breath and deleted that 2.3 GB file)
What negative consequences could occur from deleting items from that Caches folder?
(Caches may be seen in Time Machine by opening the user's "home" older in Finder, holding down the option key while clicking Go then Library, then clicking Caches, then Entering Time Machine.  After the window settles down, only the latest Caches window and one other mysterious item will remain.)
I am using OS 10.7.3 on a MacBook with 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, purchased in December 2006.

    The answer is complex.
I keep ALL my User files on a Home Mac OS X Server. This is a setup that is used in schools with fixed Macs.
    • any User can use any Mac, and their files appear when they log in. (The User files are stored on the Server).
    • any Mac can go out for service, and the User files are not an issue.
    • with all User files on the Server, backup the Server and you have backed up everything
When using such a Network, all the Cache files go on the Server as well. This is a known performance issue that can slow things down a bit, so Server Admins have been fooling around with User Home Redirection, and especially User Cache redirection for a long time.
With the coming of 10.6 Sever, a new set of features was added that allows the Users Caches to be automatically redirected to the local workstation on login. Since that might be a security problem when the User logs out, there is an option to delete the caches on logout.
Works fine. No issues except the ones I mentioned above.

  • Library/Caches Backup or not ?

    Hi,
I currently use RsyncX for doing a weekly backup to an external USB drive and by default i backup my home dir. I am wondering if there are certain directories in my home dir that i can exclude from backing up ? i.e library/caches etc ?
Also i notice the some of the dirs in here can get quite large how do cache files get cleaned up in Mac OS X ? Can i simply delete a cache dir for a given app and it will re-establish upon the next application launch ?
    Any assistance much appreciated.
    Cheers

Do not backup the cache files or directories and there are more than one and not all of them are visible. There are utilities such as Cocktail, Onyx, and Tiger Cache Cleaner X that have specific functions for deleting the system, user, and internet cache files. I have Cocktail set to run automatically once a week to clean out all the cache files, including the VM swapfiles as a routine prophylactic procedure.

  • IOS - Library/Cache - Database question

    Hello there,
Some time ago I've read on this forum that the correct directory to use on iOS for storing data is Library/Cache and since then I've fixed my app to use that directory.
Here it is the link to an article written by "our" Saumitra:
    http://www.saumitrabhave.com/2011/11/air-ios-solving-apps-must-follow-ios.html
My app has 2 db files (and some xml files).
    The struct looks like this:
    [root] my main app
    ├──data
│  └──dbtemplates  (this dir contains my two db files)
    └──xml
├──en (this dir contains english localization)
└──it (this dir contains italian localization)
When my app starts, it copies these 2 db files in Library/Cache directory and then the app fills them with data generated on the fly: from that moment my app will use these two new databases for reading and saving datas.
    My questions are:
    1) With this struct, is it true that my app won't be rejected by Apple? (I mean with data/dbtemplates, xml/it and xml/en subdirectories)
    2) Is the Library/Cache the right directory to copy my new db in?
    3) If Apple accepts my app, sooner or later I will develop an update to my app: in that case, if the user has not uninstalled my app, when he updates the app from the apple store, the db files that I stored in Library/Cache won't be deleted from the update process, true?
Unilt today I was pretty sure that the answers to my questions were "yes", "yes" and "yes" but today I've spoken with a friend of mine that told me that I need also to flag my dbfiles as "do not backup" and the only wat to accomplish this is to use a native extension:
    http://www.jampot.ie/ane/ane-ios-data-storage-set-donotbackup-attribute-for-ios5-native-ex tension/
    Can someone clear my doubts?
    Thanks in advance

    1) With this struct, is it true that my app won't be rejected by Apple? (I mean with data/dbtemplates, xml/it and xml/en subdirectories)
Its seems absolutely fine. data and xml are the folders you package as assets right?
    2) Is the Library/Cache the right directory to copy my new db in?
As I see your use case, I think you should rather use the applicationStorageDirectory. Because thes files are essential for your application to work.
    3) If Apple accepts my app, sooner or later I will develop an update to my app: in that case, if the user has not uninstalled my app, when he updates the app from the apple store, the db files that I stored in Library/Cache won't be deleted from the update process, true?
No. As per Apple QnA "the entire <Application_Home>/Library directory has always been preserved during updates and backups, except for <Application_Home>/Library/Caches." See this . So if you store the XMLs in Caches they will be deleted but Not if you store them in applicationStorageDirectory which is (Library/Application Support/....) See recommended usage of this directory here
    About "Do Not Backup Attribute".
As you can see that above link mentions adding the do not backup extended attribute to "Application Support". You should set it if you dont need those files to be backed up but, You should not set this attribute if it is essential for your application to have those files when restored from backup to function properly or get "restored" completely.

  • "/Library/Caches/com.apple.IntlDataCache.26"

I am trying to back up my hard disk in order to perform some repairs, disk utility says to back up before repairing,I am unable to  perform the back up.  I get the following message:
    Burning the disc failed because one or more of the items in untitled CD.fpbf could not read;
    “/Library/Caches/com.apple.IntlDataCache.26” cannot be read.
I FOUND THIS FILE OR WHATEVER AND WAS GOING TO TRASH IT BUT THE COMPUTER WON'T LET ME TRASH IT!! IS THIS AN IMPORTANT FILE?? IF I DELETE IT WHAT WILL HAPPEN. IF I CAN DELETE IT HOW DO I???
    THANKS

OK, I understand now, and yes, you are correct. it will not fit on a CD, nor likely even a DVD.
My Boot Drive would take 133 CDs to back up if I split it into 670MB chunks, which can be done, but not easily.
Normally you would only back up a few things to CD, Maybe your Home folder if it was less than CD size... you can highlight your Home Folder, do a Get Info on it to see how big it is.
The best, (only way really), is to backup to an external Firewire drive.
Best way to get an exact bootable copy of your old drive to the new one is with Carbon Copy Cloner...
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
Not only do you that way have a backup, but if something happens to your internal drive, then you can just boot off the external one to continue working, or fix things up.
