Delete .mac applic from Screen Savers

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the easiest way to delete .mac or any other file from the System Preferences/Screen Savers? I'm looking for a utility or short cut way that doesn't involve typing codes into the Terminal.

There are three Screen Saver folders: /System/Library/Screen Savers/, /Library/Screen Savers/, and /Home/Library/Screen Savers/. Any third-party screen savers should be installed in one of the latter two folders. /Library/Screen Savers/ for screen savers that should be accessible to all users or /Home/Library/Screen Savers/ for screen savers only accessible by you. The screen savers in the /System/Library/Screen Savers/ folder is reserved for screen savers included in the OS X system installation.
From what you've provided I cannot tell you why such a dialog would appear unless you have the MobileMe and RSS screen saver (or some other screen saver) selected at the time you open the Screen Saver preferences.

  • Deleting .mac account from preferences ... ?

Hello, I own an older 2001 mac (graphite). I'm going to lend it to a friend while her macbook gets fixed. Is there a way to delete my main .mac email account in the preferences window or maybe replace with her (hotmail) email?

You could set up a new second user account with lesser
permissions and privileges than your admin main account
and then let this other person log into the computer and
    set up her own stuff.
If you set up this other account, you would have the password
and could more readily wipe it out later on. And you need not
let everyone or anyone borrowing a Mac use your accounts
or your user information, since these can remain private.
(There is a way to delete your .mac or mobileme account
information from your user account; but I don't know it.
In fact, internet access where I am has been so poor as
to forgo the desire to even try or use mobileme or .mac.)
So, you should be able to use Help in the Finder menu bar
to get information on how to set up new user accounts.
It is possible to have the computer not automatically go to
your account on startup. It could go to the login window
and have the user put in their account number; as a list of
users would appear when more than one account exists.
The levels of user accounts range from Admin, where that
person can mess with and install anything into the computer,
to a Simple level, where kids or visitors can be given a lesser
degree of access, to even limit it further, a Simple Finder and
few applications can be chosen for that basic user. Others
would be off-limits, if the lesser account status is chosen, &
if other options for that limited user are selected.
You can customize a new second user account and drag into
the Dock only those apps you want that user to have easy
access to; but if they still have access to the hard drive or
the Applications folder (you can limit access to these, too)
the user could still run most anything. A malicious one could
go into there and drag stuff into the Trash, too. So, there are
a few ways to change all that and limit access to visitors.
There are documents in Apple Support such as this:
Mac OS X: How to manage user access to applications... (etc)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2400
Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Adding a new user account to your computer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh168.html
And they are worth a look. There are built-in features in OS X
which can save you headaches from lending your Mac, if you
choose to figure out how they work and then use them properly.
Even if the matter is sharing a second older Mac with a friend.
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Airport allows deleted MAC addresses on network

Am I misunderstanding Airport Security and timed access? I've deleted Mac addresses from devices previously on my network, but the devices are still able to join the Airport network again. (I have not changed the password.) I thought this set up required the device to be "on the list" in order to share the network. Is it only about the password?
    Thanks for any advice.

Timed Access can be a bit tricky.
It helps to remember that the default under Timed Access will allow all devices unlimited access to the network. Double click on the default setting and a window will open with more details.
If you want to restrict this to certain devices, you must first change the default "rule" to not allow any access.
Then, list each device separately that you want to connect along with the "rule" or allowed connection times for that device.

  • I am using the desktop screensaver and a file from dropbox for photos.  Does the list of screen savers actually use the file, or just link to it.  If I delete the file from the dropbox, will the screen saver be lost?

Using the desktop slideshow, I have added a file from dropbox for the slideshow.  If I delete the dropbox file, does that delete the file from the list on the slideshow?  Do I need to leave the file on the computer itself rather than in the dropbox and then delete it from the dropbox?

If you are going to delete the file from Dropbox, you will need the file on your computer.
You will probably need to put the file in Library/Screen Savers

  • Deleting Screen Savers from list

When perusing my "Desktop & Screen Saver" preferences, I played with the option "Choose Folder" (at the bottom of the list of canned screen savers) and selected my Desktop folder just to see how it would work.
Now I can't eliminate that selection from the list of options. I have been to the screen saver folders under the user, the hard drive, and system folders. Can't find where my desktop folder qua screen saver is found so I can eliminate it and get it off the preference list.
I hope the answer is not to reinstall Tiger!
Many thanks to anyone who can help.

    Hello Forrest,
    No need to reinstall Tiger!!
All you have to do is to "Choose Folder" again, select another one. It will replace the previously selected folder.

  • I want to delete all firefox screen savers

They are black and white no colours except the fox and I do not want aNY of them I have tried going to the folder - roaming mozilla firefox and deleting - but thaT DOES NOT WORK - i SET UP wINDOWS and they are what I want - windows themes are real pictures
So how do I get rid of all firefox screen savers that I do not use or want -
There are other browsers you know

hello, firefox doesn't include any screensavers... from your system details it looks like there is quite a bunch of possibly unwanted adware programs present on your system. maybe one of them is causing those issues.
please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I click on "show original" all my external H D 's and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this icon from the trash without loosing all my files?

I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I tried to delete it, it showed that I was deleting 80,000 files and counting. I stopped the delete process and when I clicked on "show original" all my external H.D.'s and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this alias from the trash without loosing all my files? When I tried to drag it back to the desk top, it just made a duplicate and remained in the trash. When I turned off the external H.D., the trash was then empty. Tried rebooting the computer and then turning the external hard drive back on and the alias shows up in the trash again. Much help appreciated.
    Rich

In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.
    If it does contain data...

  • Move .mac website from one account to another-delete the old

I am a rookie at iweb and .mac, but I love them so far. I have created a website in iWeb 06 under my trial .mac account. We are going to sign up, but under a new user name. my question is, can I publish my current site on the new account, and delete the info on the web for my old account? I'd love any ideas.

    antsmarching
Yes, as soon as you enter your new .Mac information in the System Preferences, iWeb will use that information to logon to the correct account and you can publish to your new account then.
As for removing the old site from the trial account. You can just delete the site from your iDisk or do it this way:

  • I deleted a contact from my phone and it synced with all my other devices including my Mac. However, I have setup time machine and have many previous backups. Can I open or use a file in back ups to get my contact back? Where and which one? Thanks!

    Its all in the question.
I have backups from months ago.
And ICLOUD deleted my contact from others devices.

Bring the Contacts window forward, then enter Time Machine and scroll back to a snapshot that includes the contacts you want to restore. Select the contacts and click the Restore button in the lower right corner of the screen.
If you don't have a Time Machine backup, but your contacts are all on iCloud and haven't been overwritten, then you can recover them by following the instructions on this page. Double-click the downloaded file to import it into Contacts. This procedure will not work if you've synced an empty Contacts database to iCloud.

  • Can I delete a Playlist from an iPhone but keep it on the Mac?

I have iTunes match on my Mac and activated on my iPhone.  I keep as little music as possible on the iPhone due to space limitations.  My thinking was that I would download what I want to listen to on the the way home from work, then delete it to download something else -- basically, only keeping what I'm currently listenting to at the time.  I know that if I download an album, I can delete the songs manually from the iphone, or the entire album.  The result will be no songs on the phone, all of them in the cloud and all of them still on my Mac.
Playlists, however, seem to act differently.  I downloaded a playlist that I no longer want on my phone, but of course want on my Mac.  I now have questions:
    1.  Can I delete the playlist form my phone with one swipe/delete?
    2.  If I do, will the playlist still appear on my Mac at home? (from what i've read, no)
    3.  If I delete select songs from the playlist, or all of them manually, I believe the playlist will still exist on my mac, but be empty.  True?
In a perfect world, you should be able to swipe a playlist and choose either "delete playlist only from this iOS device" or "delete playlist from all devices".  Thanks.

I did this recently on an iPod Classic: attach to iTunes, on the device summary tab check manually sync music, then deleted the music and playlists I wanted off the iDevice.  They remain on the computer's iTunes but by keeping the device identified as manual sync they do not go back.
