DELETE MAIL USER

Hello,
I haved a problem with a user account in my Imap Server, a old message stopped my incoming emails with the message: No longer exist, I O erreur or sometime like that. I dont know how erase a specific message of a user so I make a copy of this folders user Inbox, Sent , etc, and I try to delete this user and make a new user with the same login.
The problem is if I check the Email settings in my server the user is still there, so I dont know how delete the user for complete, specially from the mail server.
I erase his account in user manager, but is not deleted from the mail server.
I need help, Im a new user of MAC OS Server. TXS

I'm experiencing the same issue, can't delete the user. But I've read all the articles and cyradm won't let me delete the user. I've added my short username (chrisr) to the imapd.conf file. And here's what I'm doing:

Deleting Mail Users

Hi. If I delete the two user accounts in Mail on a computer I'm giving away,(still up and running OSX10.3.9)will it have any effect on the other computer I'm using? It might sound stupid, but I'd hate to go for my email on the other computer and find my accounts gone. The two are "connected" through a USB wireless receiver and the main router.Thanks.

When considering cleaning up contents in an older computer to gift it away,
one of the reasons why starting fresh would be to assure the OS is on a
firm footing and built up on a zero-overwritten then reformatted hard disk drive
with the last upgrade parts (instead of a mended chain of updates over time)
is that it should allow the computer to run like new again and also to get rid of
excesses so the hard disk drive would be mostly empty so the system would
have enough free-space remaining of the total possible capacity, to work well.
{The value of getting and using the correct hardware to make a full computer
drive clone of the existing computer's contents, to deal with that later, then go
ahead and install a fully new system from scratch after low-level secure erase,
gives you a bootable copy of the current computer; so anything there isn't lost...
An external FireWire enclosure with bootable chipset with hard disk drive is best.}
With Panther 10.3.9, there are a few problems in going ahead with older OSX
versions; one of them is a modern capable browser. Camino.org has their
browser that works well in Panther (and later) Mac systems, and can be the
default browser - as chosen in its preferences or in old Safari; and it can play
or present most current web page and internet content correctly. Also, find &
install the correct latest supported (in Panther) Adobe Shockwave & Flash
players while removing the older ones that have fallen by the wayside.
The quality of the Panther 10.3.9 experience in an older computer can be
improved upon significantly; not just with the burden of old files removed
from the computer, but a new installation on a secure erased overwritten
drive gives the hard disk drive a total defragmented place for that new OSX.
Of course, to have a new installation of Tiger 10.4.11 on a prepared drive
would be a significant improvement over Panther and it has current support
in the occasional Security Update and other Apple content downloads. Some
of the older computers (depending on model and resources available to it)
can run Leopard 10.5 adequately, if the computer is supported.
Preventative maintenance and routine upkeep is also important, even if no
new software is installed, since there are things that need attention and if
they go wanting, the later issues which can & do result may be avoided.

I create a lot of project folders where i keep all my conversations regarding the project. Once the project is finished i would like to just delete the folder and get rid of all the emails associated with it but when i delete the folder i've noticed that only received messages are deleted. Now I am stuck trying to sort through my sent folder for messages that were returned there after the conversations was supposedly deleted.

Exchange server 2010 has a capability to ensure that deleted items are retained within the
Dumpster till the deleted items retention period. This prevents the deleted items from being deleted permanently, and allow an administrator to recover such items.
Exchange Server 2010 includes the ability to ensure that data within the mailbox is preserved for a period of time. This feature can be enabled on a per mailbox basis by
running the cmdlet command: -
Set-Mailbox -SingleItemRecoveryEnabled $true
The default time period for deleted data is 14 days in exchange 2010 and it can be changed by using this command: -
For the mailbox database: Set-MailboxDatabase -DeletedItemRetention

Disable Users: Nobody can log in to the mailbox, but the data is safe and it can receive email. Once it is enabled, it is back to normal.
Delete Users: when the user is deleted all the services are removed and all data is erased. The user is deleted from our Active Directory. If you create a user with the same Name and Emial address again, no data or services are recovered.
If you disable a user, the Active Directory object remains untouched together with the mailbox data and properties, but you will not be able to access any mailbox data.
If you delete a user, the Active Directory object is removed together with all data and properties of the user.

How do I create a new user, move my old files etc over, and delete old user

This is why I think I need to.
My computer got hit by lightening, and I may have created a new user account through netinfo rather than system preferences /accounts/+user. Mail used to open twice, but no longer. Now, Safari askes me for my keychain password twice, Spotlight can't find a folder on the computer when the search is restricted to folder and computer, though the folder is there and easyfind finds it, and when System Preferences/Spotlight/Privacy has the hard drive icon added, then deleted, Spotlight still does not find anything. (Yes, everything is backed up, on CD, DVD, and online.) Microsoft Tec Support says

When you contacted us on August 8, you had requested assistance with Microsoft Office 2004, as your installation of the updates was unable to find the correct version of the software to update. After creating a New MAC User, we identified the issue to be with a corrupt MAC User account, and not a Microsoft issue. "
I believe Microsoft. So, creating a new user was easy.
But copying files uses up too much hard drive (movies, music), and may miss keychains, preferences, mail, address book, and documents. Since Spotlight no longer works, who knows what is happening. (Yes, I've repaired persmissions, and disk repair. No change). I'm using up my hard drive trying to move files to the new user. If I share files, or put them into a public folder, then delete the old user, will I still have the old user's files in the new user's account? It is not clear to me what I should be trying to do in order to create a new user, move my old files etc over, and delete old user. Thanks.

I need to do the EXACT same thing, but have no idea how. Has anyone out there done this?
My situation is a tad different..this is a new Mac (and I'm a brand new Mac user). Tons of querks occur under my original account (videos won't run, Safari won't support certain plug-ins). I spent 6 hours on the phone w/ 4 different Apple Reps and nobody could fix it. A rep finally looked at my MacBook Pro in person today. He created a new account just to see if that would work and under that new account, everything works perfectly fine (no querks, can view video). He tried switching a million settings in my original account to no avail.
He said to create a new account (as he did) and move my files over to the new account and then go back to the original and delete it. How do you do this?! I can't figure it out! I've got a new account created, but of course it just has the default folders in it w/ the little red icons next to them! Thanks in advance!

Deleted mail does not appear in the trash can

When I delete mail from my inbox I can't see it on the Trash "On My Mac". I have set the trash settings to delete everything after one week. Does anyone know why this is happening or how I might be able to fix it.

On the Mac without an account named Trash mailbox for the POP account under Trash in the Mailboxes drawer, is "Move deleted messages to a separate folder" selected under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences?
If so, the account's Trash mailbox is located in the account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) at Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder > Deleted Messages.mbox folder.
Not at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes.
The Deleted Messages.mbox folder within the Mailboxes folder represents the "On My Mac" named Trash mailbox under Trash in the mailboxes drawer.

Problems adding and deleting mail accounts

I am running server 10.5.8 and have had amazingly few issues or crashes. I'm a novice, know zero about UNIX, but have a server for a small office that i set up and has run without issues for years. It hosts our website and email and some basic file sharing and ftp.
This past week, I tried to add a user in Workgroup Manager, that is basically just an email user. Worked fine in Workgroup Manager, and activated the account and enabled email as both pop and imap. i also deleted some users that are no longer with us.
I tried to set up Mail on the client computer, and it would not work. I went back to the server and in Server Admin it shows that Mail is up, other users are getting their mail, but the new user I set up in workgroup manager is not showing up as having an account in server admin, and the users i deleted in workgroup manager still seem to have accounts in server admin.
In the Mail Access log I just get repeats of this same message;
Aug 28 10:23:59 server imap[1386]: AOD: user opts: get attributes for user: office failed with error: -14479
I tried restarting, tried to repair permissions etc.
Does anyone have any ideas?

no they did not show up there either.
i opened up users and groups and just tried adding the user to the access list.
i will let you know how it works.

Adding and Deleting mail accounts

Hi all,
I have a 10.4.11 server running Mail services. I recently tried to add a user account for a new employee. The account was created without error, and the appropriate mailbox created, etc., etc. However whenever I tested logging in to webmail, I got the following error message:
"ERROR: Could not complete request.
Query: SELECT "INBOX"
Reason Given: System I/O error"
At the same time, in the console I get the following message:
"Aug 22 11:40:58 od-replica imap[10718]: IOERROR: opening /Volumes/DataMirror/mailserver/mail-store/user/monicatanksley/cyrus.header: No such file or directory

I then went to delete the user account as I was under the impression that this also deletes the mail account. However the user entry is still in mailboxes.db. How am I to delete it completely so I can work on recreating this account?

You can use SirAdmin ( http://explanatorygap.net/2006/05/13/siradmin-a-gui-replacement-for-cyradm/ ) to delete IMAP accounts.
Alternatively, recreate it in WGM making sure you use the very same first shortname you did when you first created the account. When done, download mailbfr ( http://osx.topicdesk.com/tools/ ), install it and issue:
mailbfr -m username
(replace username with that first shortname - monicatanksley according to the log entry)

Best practice to delete a User in SRM.

Can some one tell how we can handle a situation where we have to delete a user from SRM, but make sure we don't have any open procurement documents. SRM server 550

1. Users are replicated to SRM from ECC via ALE
2. Whenever a user is terminated from the company a user update from ECC will delete the user in SRM.

Our business process for removing users from our SRM 5.5 system
1. TCode SU01 expire the users licence and lock the userID.
2. Also in SU01 remove the users email address esp if using off line mail processes
3. Remove the user's roles using PFCG
4. In the SRM Org Structure we have a node for de-activated users not attached to any Company code - we move them to that node and change the assignment description so we know where they came from - this is our Audit requirement.
5. In the Org Structure remove any attributes concerned with approval of cost centers/orders etc. Also change their Approval Value level in Extended attriutes to zero.
6. If the user was an approver check SWI5 to find any uncompleted workflow items
7. Use SWIA to re-route those items to an appropriate approver
8. Check for any user substitutes active or passive and remove them, we wrote an ABAP application for this as we could find no suitable SAP transaction. You could log on as the user and do it that way, but if the user is a substitute for someone else you cannot.
9 If the user exists in the back end ERP system, de-activate in SU01 as steps 1 & 2 above
10 Check if there are any workflow in ERP.
We never delete users as this will cause problems with any documents that they worked on for ever and ever and ever...
With this procedure sometimes - not very often - they return to the organization and they can be re-activated.

I dont think there is any standard program to do it. You have to write custom program to do it. I am not sure whether using LSMW you can get help. Just check with LSMW experts.
