Delete master file & versions fromhard drive ... completely!!!

I just bought a new iMac yesterday and imported 12,000 pictures on the hard drive. Strarted my clean up using delete master image and all version ... files gets transfered into the aperture trash! ... i empty the trash ... files STILL REMAIN ON MY HARD DRIVE.
Why is that?
What am I doing wrong.
Files were imported in a folder I CREATED ... I called it PHOTOS
Thanks everyone for your help .. a little bit discouraged!
Eric

Don't be discouraged. This is a feature, not a bug. You may not like it, but you should know how it works. Complete instructions are found many places in the Help file. Search under "Trash".
Deleting items in Aperture can be a four-step process. Each step but the last is reverseable.
1. Mark photo as "rejected".
2. Move photo or other items to the Aperture Trash. This is just a special container called "Trash".
3. Empty the Aperture Trash. This moves the items out of Aperture's control, and put them in your system trash.
4. Empty the system trash. This is done via Finder.

  • HT1349 Hello, how to move the iTunes master file from C drive to an external drive and them iTunes stick with the external drive after on an on going basic?

My desktop C drive is full HD of 1 TB, I would like to move the current iTunes master file to an external 4TB drive and then iTunes stick with the external drive
Could this be done, if yes how to do it?
    Thank you for your help
    Henri

If it's the same as with a PC, the procedure would be to:
    (a) Plug in the new external drive,
    (b) Set your iTunes preferences such that the iTunes Music Folder is on the new drive,
    (c) Use the iTunes "Consolidate Library" utility to copy your library to the new location.
    (d) When the transfer is complete, check "Get Info" on some songs to verify their location.
The original files will remain on the old drive, so you'll have a way to recover should there be a problem. You may need to manually copy any iPhone/Touch Apps to the new drive since I'm not sure those are transferred with the Consolidate utility.

  • How do you delete transparent file from hard drive?

Hi. I lent my hard drive to my friend and came back with this weird file named "\". I want to delete this file, but when ever I put this in the trash and empty it, my computer starts lagging. (So I have to relaunch my Finder) This file doesn't allow me to rename it. If anyone knows the way to delete this, please tell me. Thanks

    Hi rebellium.rebel,
    Thank you for your reply.
Another option to consider would be formatting (erasing) the hard drive, after moving your files off of it.
You can find a step-by-step guide for this in the below article, which are good general steps although the article references Aperture:
Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture - Apple Support
If the files reappear in the future, some of the steps in this guide may be helpful, such as checking with the manufacturer regarding this situation and whether the drive requires additional software:

  • CAML query to delete a file version

    Can someone please help me.
I need to get the CAML query that will allow me to delete a version of a sharepoint document?

    Hi,
If you want to delete versions of a SharePoint document, we can use C# code or PowerShell to achieve it.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/paul_cardon/archive/2010/07/12/deleting-versions-from-a-sharepoint-list-item.aspx
    http://matthewyarlett.blogspot.com/2013/08/listing-and-deleting-sharepoint.html
If you only want to delete a special version of a document, we can use LINQ to get the version by some conditions.
    Example:
    var result = item.File.Versions.Cast<SPFileVersion>().Where(v => v.Created.AddHours(-8).ToShortDateString() ==DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString()).ToList();

  • Aperture 2 deletes master with version

Anyone have this problem? I use Aperture 2, I want to delete a version and not the master image, so I go to the drop down and select 'Delete Version' and I get the 'You're about to delete the master and all versions' window instead of the 'You're about to delete the version' window. Both tabs take me to the same window.

Nope, this is what it sounds like. If I try to delete a legit version it wants to throw EVERYTHING away. I've tried reloading the software, etc. but this won't go away. I'm thinking it came in on a update as a bug, but the re-install should have taken care of that...right?

  • Deleted .DS_Store files, Now my drive is EMPTY! Help!

In Mac's Terminal application I used a command I found on Adobe's website to delete .DS_Store files because I thought I had some corrupt ones. The command was to delete all of them on the entire machine. Since they are not critical files, I figured what the heck. Well, maybe I typed something wrong. I know Terminal is very touchy (now I know). But all of the files on my external drive are gone. When I double-click the drive icon, the window shows 0 items. Can anyone tell me what went wrong and how to undo the problem. I think all the files are still on the drive, there's just no directory to view them - so it says there's 0 files. Help please!
Here's the commands I entered in Terminal. Note that the first line is the command that was supposed to erase the .DS_Store files. The second line asked for my password. When I entered it, it may have deleted the files, but then it gave me no new command prompt. So everything you see from the "sudo" on is things I entered trying to get a new prompt. So I think that's where I screwed something up.
    neals-imacs-imac-g5-5:Clients iMac$ sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;

    sudo
    sudo ls

    usage: sudo [-HPSb] [-p prompt] [-u username|#uid]

    neals-imacs-imac-g5-5:Clients iMac$ sudo ls

By the way, the Adobe article that showed how to delete the .DS_Store files (in case that helps) is at: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/168/tn_16831.html

I just did the same exact thing (but recovered!). I hope you didn't empty your recycle bin/trash yet! Your library information is there - get it out!
The instructions on the web are a bit obtuse - what you need to do is delete ONLY the "iTunes Music" folder within the default iTunes location; I deleted the ENTIRE "iTunes" folder and saw exactly what you do now. You need to restore the "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" files, and you'll be back in business.
Not sure how you'll recover if you can't get those files back...

  • How to delete locked files on pen drive

I have a pen drive which has 2 partitions and there is no problem with one partition.  Other partition shows itself as "CDROM" and none of the files in that partition could be deleted.  There is no option to format the entire pen drive also.  Even if I format it, the "CDROM' partition still remains.

    Hi Scott,
    2 ways to go...
      1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
       3. Click the Erase tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion do a new install.
    Or...
Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

  • Deleting photo file from hard drive

    Hello,
I would like to be able to delete items (photos) from both the iPhoto library and my hard drive, but I don't seem to be able to. After I delete items from the iPhoto library, the files are still on the hard drive... (I did empty the trash and I did delete the items from the Library folder)
Note: I just started using iPhoto. I already had a large (?) (9000+ items) library of photos that I keep on an external firewire hard drive. I did not use the "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library" function, because a) I didn't want to wait for the system to copy all 9000 images, b) my internal hard drive isn't really big enough to store all these images and c) I'd like to keep using other software (Photoshop, stich software, etc.) to view, open and edit my images.
I like using iPhoto, it seems faster than what I've been using and I like the clean interface, but if I can't use iPhoto to both view and delete images it might not be the software I'm looking for...
My apologies if this question has been answered prior - I just searched and couldn't find an answer.
    Thanks for all help!

Unfortunately the "Show File" or "Show Original File" command doesn't seem to work when more than one file is selected... (the program just points to one of the selected files). Is there a workaround?
No, I think you'll need to do it one at a time.
How would I specify more than one external application (e.g. Photoshop and a panorama stitching app)
No, you won't be able to set up more than one app at a time. The obvious one being to set up Photoshop. What I would do is export the pics for stitching and then import the resulting image as a new image - but that's just me.
Saving an additional file is as simple either duplicating in iPhoto or using Save As in Photoshop and the importing the new file.
You can download with Image Capture (in your Applications folder) and rename files with a batch renamer such as File List. iPhoto has no facility to rename files except on export as filenames are quite irrelevant within iPhoto. You can, of course, apply titles in iPhoto.
As you say, perhaps the app is not for you - it's not right for everybody in every situation.

  • Missing master files / Version-0.apversion

    Greetings,
i have an inexplicable error in Aperture 3. I have migrated my photo library into aperture and allowed it to "ingest" the photos. Prior to this, i was using the browser/finder as the interface of choice for managing my files.
Now aperture is creating this error for a small number of files. When in the browser, the thumbnail is replaced by a dotted white outline bearing the filename Version-0.apversion or Master.apmaster.
When i double click on the thump, the screen will flash between the image and the grey background. In the meantime the Processing indicator at the bottom of the screen will fire up and the Activity monitor will display a never ending "Updating library" processing task with the counter going into the thousands. All 4 cores will fire up at the same time, but only when the app is in the foreground, when aperture is minimized, then the processor activity will stop.
I have tried to export versions or the originals, nothing happens. A directory with a Version-0.apversion or Master.apmaster file (4k) will be created.
I dont know how to address this issue and i have not been able to find anything online. I am looking forward to any ideas.

Anyone? any ideas? any more information i can supply for someone to look into this?
I am seriously regretting allowing aperture to handle my images........

  • How to delete "other" files on hard drive

Our 500 hard drive is almost full,  256 of it is labled as other,  how do access these files to deleate them?

Other means anything that isn't music, movies, photos, programs, and backup files. What hasn't been specifically mentioned? Documents and the operating system. Other is basically the operating system (OS X) and the temporary files the OS needs to function. If you are curious you may notice that Other is smaller when you first restart your computer and that it grows the longer the computer has been 'up' (that is used without restarting or shutting down). For most people Document files take up a very small amount of hard drive space which is probably why it doesn't get its own category.
You really have little control over Other. Photos, music and movies take up the most space on most people's drives and should be the target of your investigation. I generally recommend that people buy an external drive and movie their iTunes library to it. This article explains how to make the move. Once you've done it you can delete the iTunes Music folder from your computer's hard drive (it can be found in your iTunes folder which is in the Music folder). Don't delete the iTunes folder or anything else that is inside it.

  • Master file version

I'm new to bridge/camera raw/ps and when i load my photos into bridge and then edit them in camera raw it edits the image like its supposed to. once i've changed the look of the photo, how do i recall a master version of the photo to make different changes. An example would be if I took photo "a" and made it have vibrant colors which turned a into b, then i wanted to make the original a into a b&w photo as well, how would i call up another copy of that original a photo?

    One way to do this:
    1. Open the raw image in Camera Raw, reset everything.
    2. Make the modifications for the new image with the new look.
    3. Click on the Save button in the lower left-hand corner and save the changed image as a DNG file.
    4. Click on the Cancel button to cancel out of ACR.
When you click on the Cancel button all of the changes that you made during that ACR editing session will be canceled, and the original image will remain in the state it was in before you made the changes. But you will still have the DNG file that you saved during the session that contain all the new changes.

  • Can't move/delete/create files on external drive created with windows xp

A friend of mine bought a brand new Maxtor External Hard drive. I connected it to my Windows XP machine and formatted it with NTFS and dumped 80Gig folder of data onto it.
When he took it home and plugged it into his Mac G5 running Tiger, it see's the firewire drive and accesses the folder, but he can't delete/move/rename/create files and folders on that drive.

I came across the same problem as well recently. I have thought about it for a long time but did not put it into practice. Yesterday I did it.
    1) Copying my data in XP disk out into my Powerbook which cost me a lot of time to wait
    2) In Windows XP, using Partition Magic (7.0) to delete the partition format of that disk (using the other tools should work as well)
    3) Plug this empty disk into my Powerbook, then it prompted that I need to format it or something like that
    4) Using Disk Utilities to format the disk as MS-DOS File Systems (FAT 32)
    5) Moving the original data into the new formatted disk which could be read and written by both Powerbook and PC.
Everything is done! This is only my personal experience, not a general solution plan for this problem. Cheers all!

  • ITunes 7.1.1 deletes music files on hard drive

After updating iTunes to 7.1.1, I discovered that my playlist for "alternative" music had dissappeared. OK, no problem, the music files must still be in "music/itunes". Searched through this folder, but ALL the "alternative" music files were gone from the hard drive - all the music burned from CDs, even those purchased from iTunes! Used "find" in various ways, no luck. They are truly deleted.
After hours and hours of reinstalling all the "alternative" music from backups, all was back as before. I shut my Mac down for the night. The next day I opened iTunes and the "alternative" playlist was gone again - and the music I had put back onto my hard drive had been erased again!
I've tried starting iTunes from an old library - the playlists come back, but the music is not, just shows question marks. I've even done a virus check of the whole HD.
As any ideas as to why this is happening, and what to do?
Now I'm worried that other playlists, and their actual music files will be unpredictably wiped.
Has this happened to anyone else's "Alternative" music files and/or playlists?
I can't believe my music files have been erased off my hard drive - twice!
    Hard to trust iTunes now.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks for the reply, it's appreciated.
I usually turn off the computer each night. After updating to 7.1.1, just the "alternative" playlist and music files were gone from my HD. I re-installed the music files from a backup HD.
To test things, I quit iTunes and then opened it again and looked in the music file on the HD, a number of times. The replaced music was still there.
The next morning, I turned on the computer [Of course, I know that an off computer can do nothing ]. When it came time to open iTunes, again the music files were gone. I didn't check to see if the files were there before I opened iTunes, unfortunately.
I did use Norton, but only AFTER I discovered the files were gone ...
At the mo' I'm trying to recreate the problem to see if I can further narrow it down. Putting just one song into the Alternatives playlist, shutting down, starting up, etc. See if it's there. Repairing permissions with Disk Utility, etc etc.
Again, thanks for trying to help!
