Delete multiple contacts

I have search the forums, but cannot find a solution to my contacts dilemna.
I have synced my phone with twitter and facebook and my googlemail contacts. I know have 1000+ contacts and numerous duplicates. Please can someone advise of a way of deleting multiple contacts?

Finaly I found an app at the Apple store that can delete all your contacts from your Iphone 5
it is called Cleaners and costs $.99
Use it and rebuiled your Contacts again

If these are iCloud based contacts, you may find it easier to go to www.icloud.com and delete them there.

Ok, here was the fix. I found that the date added was 18 minutes apart for the duplicates. Since half the music was added at :19 and half was added at :37, I sorted by date added in the display duplicates window, and deleted the music by date! It took 5 minutes. I know enough to get me in and out of trouble, and that's all I know!

I have been using Macs for well over a decade. As a result my Address Book has become crowded with a large number of contacts for people I don't know anymore, most of which are out of date anyways.

I assume that this will work, but I thought my first suggestion would work so ....Log into iCloud.com on your computer. Click on contacts. Click on the settings icon in the lower left corner - then click on Select All - then click on Delete.

You can't from the phone.
If they are iCloud contacts you can sign into iCloud.com with Your Apple ID from a web browser on your computer. Click Contacts, select the contacts you want to delete, click the gear icon on the bottom left then delete.

Trying to delete multiple contacts at once on iPhone

I wanted a large (~200) subset of my contacts (within Outlook) to be added to my iPhone, so I used the iTunes Contact Sync to get all of my contacts there (rather than type in 200 with the iPhone keyboard, which leaves something to be desired). Now I have all of my contacts on the iPhone, but only want the 200 or so.
Is there an easy way to select a group or multiple contacts and mark them for deletion? Right now it appears as if I need to go through one by one, which will NOT work for me.

During my Bluetooth sync with my old iphone i gotinterrupted and part of my contacts were added. I want to delete all my contacts on my phone and start again but my only option seems to be deleting each of the 500 contacts individually.

You could go to your hotmail account on a PC select contacts at the top you will see manage in the dropdown chose cleanup.

Download the free app called My Contacts Backup. The app will allow an easy way to wipe out all of the contacts on the device. This feature is accessed by scrolling all the way down on the main app screen. Note that this does NOT allow you to select multiple contacts to delete but rather only allows you to delete the ENTIRE contacts list. There may be other contacts apps in the App Store that will allow you to select which you want to delete but I have no experience nor can comment on which apps those are.
As you've found, iOS's Contacts app does NOT allow you to bulk-delete contacts. You need to use an additional app.
