Delete old data

Question

hey all,
i'm checking the accuracy of our SCCM inventory, specifically if old XP systems are being deleted regularly.
i have two questions:
- which SCCM Task deletes records for old/obsolete computers?  for example, as we switch users off of XP and these systems are wiped, the SCCM report for OS count shows the XP numbers gradually decreasing.
- which property of the computer record determines how old the data is?  for example, if you look at any of the task properties, there is an option for "Delete data older than (days)".

 "Delete Inactive Client Discovery Data" and "Delete Obsolete Client Discovery Data" maintenace task deletes client records from database.
deleting data is dependent upon your "Client status reporting" configuration and if newer record is generated for the same client.

thanks for the response; we only have SCCM 2007 SP2, no R2.  so i can't use the Client status reporting.

i did force both Client discovery data tasks to run again, and my XP system count has dropped, but still showing may more than what's in use; ie, we only have maybe 30-40 XP systems still in use, but the count in SCCM is still showing 105.
would this be due to the 'Delete data older than' setting?  when we replace an XP system, most are being wiped/formatted, others just stored for later use.  would they get flagged as older than 30 days when the SCCM client hasn't checked in at
30 days or more?
just trying to get a handle on why SCCM is reporting current XP computer count as higher than actual numbers.
