Delete or Move log files

I know that other person ask about this situation and his question was answered. I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 running out of space, critical. Can I also move or delete the log files in the following folders to other partition or disk
drive, safely:
C:\Windows\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC2
C:\Windows\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC858119008
C:\Windows\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC2124070646
Thank you in advance.

Hi
Yes, it's only log file. For security measure you can just move them to an archive location too.

  • Accidently Deleted Online Redo Log Files

    Dear friends
Just to give a try, I deleted online redo log files from the disk after clearn shutdown (In Test Environment Not A Production Database), then i started the dabase, I know we need atleast two online redo files for database to work properly. now my point of question is how can i create new online redo files ?
I have 2 redo logfile groups each with one member. In group 2 i have added new member for the deleted one using add logfile member ....... to group 2. but when i try todo the same to add logfile member to group1 I am not abale to do so. because its saying that this is the current logfile member. then I tried manual log switching to use next logfile member but database is not allowing as the database is just mounted not opened. plsease if any body helps me out to sort out this problem it will be a great help.

just last 3 days log files is enough . and then above log and out file .
how can u remove these log and out files for specific reqiurment
    . in linux flatform
    regards

what problem occur if i delete log files at os levelThere should be no issues, but as stated above this can be done by the concurrent request so why to bother yourself and do it manaully?
If you delete log/out files manaully from the OS for some requests which have not been purged from the tables, then you will not be able to access the log/out file of that request from the application.

  • Deleted mysql binary log files - can't start mysql

    Hi all,
I had mysql running and used it for quite a while.
Since my disk ran out of space, I deleted all the mysql-bin.0000* files in the mysql data folder and configured that mysql should not use binary logs anymore.
    Quite a mistake I assume; since now I can't start mysql(d) anymore.
I've tried a lot by now:
    - re-installed mysql
    - deleted everything in the mysql data folder
But I'm a bit stuck - and can't repair it anymore.. (there is not data loss, everything is backed up - that's not the problem).
Can someone please guide me in a good direction?
    Running Arch Linux (systemd).
    systemctl status mysqld:
    Mar 08 13:12:34 arch systemd[1]: mysqld.service: control process exited, code=exited status=203
Mar 08 13:12:34 arch systemd[1]: Failed to start MySQL database server.

Mar 08 13:12:34 arch systemd[1]: Stopping MySQL database server...
Mar 08 13:12:34 arch systemd[1]: Starting MySQL database server...
Mar 08 13:12:34 arch systemd[1]: mysqld.service start request repeated too quickly, refusing to start.
Mar 08 13:12:34 arch systemd[1]: Failed to start MySQL database server.
Mar 08 13:12:34 arch systemd[1]: Unit mysqld.service entered failed state
    Mar 08 14:32:24 arch systemd[1]: Stopped mysqld.service.
The data folder /var/lib/mysql is totally empty (which is - I assume - not good...).
    Thanks in advance
Disclaimer: I tried for many hours now, but since I'm quite new - I don't have a clue anymore what to do.

These are systemd, not mysql errors, and are quite useless as such -- you already know that mysql does not work Look for /var/log/mysqld.log or $datadir/<hostname>.err -- next time, of course, 'cos there's just one thing to do now: restore your mysql data folder, as there should be much more than binary logs Or, should you prefer to start from scratch, try to use mysql_install_db and then start mysql again.
For future reference, you can safely delete old binary logs from inside mysql using PURGE MASTER LOGS command, and/or consider using expire_logs_days config option.

  • Deleting Clamxav-scan.log file

I have uninstalled the clamx antivirus software but It still does this logging thing on Firefox every morning at 4am. It's really annoying. So I found the file that actually does the logging in user/Library/Logs/clamXav-scan.log. So is it safe for me to delete that and will it stop doing the logging?

  • Will RMAN delete archive log files on a Standby server?

    Environment:
Oracle 11.2.0.3 EE on Solaris 10.5
I am currently NOT using an RMAN repository (coming soon).
I have a Primary database sending log files to a Standby.
My Retention Policy is set to 'RECOVERY WINDOW OF 8 DAYS'.
Question: Will RMAN delete the archive log files on the Standby server after they become obsolete based on the Retention Policy or do I need to remove them manually via O/S command?
Does the fact that I'm NOT using an RMAN Repository at the moment make a difference?
Couldn't find the answer in the docs.
    Thanks very much!!
    -gary

    Hello again Gary;
    Sorry for the delay.
Why is what you suggested better?
No, its not better, but I prefer to manage the archive. This method works, period.
Does that fact (running a backup every 4 hours) make my archivelog deletion policy irrelevant?
    No. The policy is important.
Having the Primary set to :
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBYBut set to "NONE" on the Standby.
Means the worst thing that can happen is RMAN will bark when you try to delete something. ( this is a good thing )
How do I prevent the archive backup process from backing up an archive log file before it gets shipped to the standby?
Should be a non-issue, the archive does not move, the REDO is transported and applied. There's SQL to monitor both ( Transport and Apply )
For Data Guard I would consider getting a copy of
"Oracle Data Guard 11g Handbook" - Larry Carpenter (AKA Dr. Paranoid ) ISBN 978-0-07-162111-2
Best Oracle book I've read in 10 years. Covers a ton of ground clearly.

  • Move IIS Log files to AWS S3 Bucket...

I'm seeking to automate a process that will copy or move IIS logs to a remote location.
The following variables must be taken into account =
    1. Copy or Move all IIS logs (xcopy?) to another location. (Each server maintains several websites)
    2. Delete the existing log files up to the current day log file from each website/ server (free up disk space)
    3. I need to retain the last 2 current days of logs per site / per server.
4.I'd like to be able to schedule this task per server.
    5. This will be performed on several IIS web servers.
    6. The logs will need to move into their respective folders within the remote location or as part of the process create a new folder name, confirm the copy/move of the logs and location.
    7. I don't have to worry about retaining actual website paths from the servers as long as the log files are in the folders names which are labeled by //server name / website (W3SVC1, W3SVC4, W3SVC5, etc...)
    8. End goal - scheduling an automated task that moves these logs into an AWS S3 location (amazon Storage bucket).
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Okay, so what's your question? All I see up there is a list of requirements (note that we don't write
    scripts on demand here).
My initial recommendation will be to look into using robocopy as a starting point:

    hi,
    you can check:
    IF sy-batch EQ 'X'.
    ==> program runs in background
    ELSE.
    ==> program runs in foreground

  • Delete archive log files on physical standby

I want to delete the archive log files on the phsical standby database when they were applied. The archive log files are in the flash recovery area. So i used
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY;
    in rman.
    My question:
Does rman delete the archive log files immediately when they are applied or when the disk space becomes scarce?

    Hi,
They're marked as reclaimable when applied, so they're still on the disk but when the flah recovery area will become full they'll be deleted to give space to the new one, and so...

  • TGW on Linux - log files not deleting

I have been running TGW 3.5 for a few months on Linux and noticed the disk space is full. It seems the TGW logs are not clearing out. I have had to manually delete loads of log files.
From the logs there seems to be a process which checks how long the logs have been there but for some reason not deleting them.

By design TGW doesn't clear out old log files thinking that it would help in troubleshooting. But we are planning to enhance it by clearing log files older than x number of days..
As you mentioned, the current fix is to manually clear out old log files. How often do you have to clear the logs ? Probably increasing available diskspace may help reduce iterations for cleaning up old logs ...

  • How do I setup RMAN not to delete archive log files on the source database so GoldenGate can process DDL/DML changes?

I want to setup RMAN not to delete any archive log files that will be used by GoldenGate.   Once GoldenGate is completed with the archive log file, the archive log file can be backup and deleted by RMAN.   It's my understanding that I can issue the following command "REGISTER EXTRACT <ext_name>, LOGRETENTION" to enable to functionally.   Is this the only thing I need to do to execute to enable this functionally?

    Hello,
Yes this is the rigth way  using clasic capture.
Using the command : REGISTER EXTRACT Extract_name LOGRETENTION.
Create a Oracle Streams Group Capture (Artificial)  that prevent RMAN archive deletion if these are pending to process for Golden Gate capture process.
You can see this integration doing a SELECT * FROM DBA_CAPTURE; after execute the register command.
Then, when RMAN try to delete a archive file pending to process for GG this warning appear AT RMAN logs:
    Error:     RMAN 8317 (RMAN-08317 RMAN-8317)
Text:     WARNING: archived log not deleted, needed for standby or upstream capture process.
Then , this is a good manageability feature. I think is a 11.1 GG new feature.
Tip. To avoid RMAN backup multiples times a archive pending to process, there is a option called BACKUP archivelog not backed 1 times.
If you remove a Capture process that is registered with the database you need to use this comand to remove the streams capture group:
    unREGISTER EXTRACT extract_name LOGRETENTION;
Then if you query dba_capture, the artificial Streams group is deleted.
    I hope help.
    Regards
    Arturo

    Hi,
Can you please let us know why you want to delete the archive log file?
BTW, you can use RMAN to achieve this by taking the backup of archive log and delete the original file using the following command:
    Backup archivelog all delete input;Regards
