Delete original admin account - applications now owned by 'unknown'

This has come up in the past and must be kind of a common question. Let’s say you have a computer that you want to give to your kids. All you want to do is create a new user admin account and then delete yours. Can’t this be done safely without permissions of applications getting all weird? I did this and all the applications now have owner set to 'unknown'. I was hoping they would say the name of the new and only user on the computer. Can and/or should I fix this?

Use the instruction on this page to change the UID of your account; if you haven't changed it manually, your account's current UID will be 502 and you want to change it to 501.

Is it possible to delete the original Admin Account, having set up other Admin Accounts on the computer?
    Thanks,

Once you have an additional Admin Account, there should be nothing "magical" about the original Admin account.
The Account you use to delete the original MUST be an Admin Account, or the old account cannot be deleted. But that is the "Acid test" for the veracity of the new Admin account.

  • I deleted my iCloud account, but now I can't use Find My iPhone. And I can't setup a new account because it writes that this account was assigned to iCloud already...

Hi guys. I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5... Its great, I wanted to test out the new iCloud so I enabled it on first iOS 5 setup.
So now I wanna delete it. So I did. Because my battery just wont work the way it used to on iOS 4.3.5. I guess it tries to connect to the internet so it could auto backup stuff. Well I dont need it. Mainly because I don't want to pay for extra space, and my free 5GB are almost done. Also I rather back it up on my PC.
I deleted my iCloud account but now I can't use FindMyiPhone! When I connect to the app it wont find my phone. When I enabled iCloud again it worked.
So I deleted it again and it stoped working again... I tried to setup a new account via MobileMe "Settings> email blah blah blah" and it didn't work because the account was already assigned to use iCloud only I guess...
    What should I do?

Its solved I just restored it to that point

  • Delete an admin account

i am unable to delete an admin account?

Had the same problem. Found the solution here:
    Can't Delete Second Admin Account
See jimocallaghan answer which worked for Lion.
After deleting the account, you will have to delete the user folder manually.

  • Running into a lot of problems deleting an admin account

It's a long story, but I'm trying to delete the admin account. Things I have tried:
    * Logging out of the unwanted account -> Going to System Preferences -> Unlocking Users & Groups
I tried to use the minus sign to delete the account, but the minus sign is greyed out.
    * In response to this, I saw one user on a previous thread about this problem suggest going into Terminal and typing sudo dscl . delete "/Users/Account Name" (replacing "Account Name" with the admin account name). When I tried this, I got this message:
guest1 is not in the sudoers file.  This incident will be reported.
And then Terminal won't let me continue after that.
I'm seriously stuck here. Any help would be appreciated.

I found a solution and deleted the account following the steps from here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5664658?tstart=0
I'm still running into the guest1 is not in the sudoers file.  This incident will be reported. problem though. I need to get past that.

  • HT201342 I deleted my icloud  account but now need my original icloud email  address.  I can't remember what it is!!!

I deleted my icloud account . . . How can I retrieve my original icloud email address?  I need it to reset up my account.

Did you set up iCloud with the same Apple ID you use to post here? If another ID, do you know what that is? If so in either case, just sign in in System Preferences>iCloud to set your account up again; your email will still be there together with any messages which have arrived.

  • Deleted original administrator account

I have deleted the original administrator account (oops, won't do that again). I have an administrator account but it doesn't have full privileges (e.g. I can't change Automatic login or enable the Guest account). When I hover over those commands the tip reads "You cannot enable automatic login because it's disabled by your system administrator."
How can I grant System Administrator status to my current administrator account?
    ~Alex

I've logged in as root (Accounts shows me as the System Administrator). The padlock is open. But I don't seem to have full control:
    - As root I can add standard and admin users, and can change them from one to the other. But I can't change one particular user ('admin') to standard, and I can't control the 'Allow guests to log in' checkbox.
    - As the user 'admin' I can add and modify new accounts, but not change the user's own account to standard or control guest logins.
    - A new admin user can control itself but not 'admin' or guest access.
It seems as if the original user account is somehow blessed, and by deleting that account I've scrambled things. The account 'admin' is now semi-blessed, and can't be changed but doesn't have full control. Or am I off base here?

  • Can i delete my admin account and make a new one?

i want to start a new account cos i have so much rubbish on my current one. i have worked out how to make new accounts but cant work out how to delete my main (current) admin account?
any help would be great. thanks.

Create a new account with Admin privileges.
Backup important files (Documents, Music, etc).
    Log out of current account.
    Log into new admin account.
When you are sure you have backed up and moved everything over, you can then delete the old previous admin account. You can have more than one admin account so it's not necessary to delete immediately. Actually, it's not a bad idea to have another backup admin account for troubleshooting purposes.
Be advised though that you'll have to have separate names for each account.

  • I made my main account a parental control account and when I accessed the account created as admin, at the Parental Control options I deleted my main account and now I can't get back in it. I need help with this problem.

I made my administrator account a parental control account, at the time of creating it, the system asked for my administrator password, to restart the computer, and the new account was created. When I accessed that account at the parental control menu I could see my main account on the list and i deleted the account from that list, and now i'm trying to get back to it but I'm not able to because every time i restart the computer brings me back to the account I created. I searched for help on the web and it says to go to users and select the account I want to restore but I can't do it. Please help.

  • How do I set up a different login password from my administrator password on the same original admin account?

I need to know how to set up one password for loging into my administrator account and then another for making changes to the account. Basically I want different passwords for login and admin. I already know about the different users accounts and how to set those up. I am not interested in creating a new user account. I want to be able to use one account on the computer and have one password for the login and then a different password for the administative.

Even if you could have two passwords for a single account (which you can't) I'm not sure what advantage would be over just having a normal user account and an administrative account.  It's certainly a security best practice on any operating system (Mac, Windows, Linux) to use your computer as an unprivlidged (normal) user account and have a completely separate account with administrative rights that you can use for updates, etc.  It's for the same separation of privlidge reasons that normal user accounts are not in the "sudoers" file either.
So, I'd recommend not trying to reinvent the wheel here.  Mac OS already does such a great job of automatically prompting you when an administrative privlidge escalation is needed for settings, updates, or installations.  If you really need administrative rights all of the time then you might just want to make your normal account an administrator.  This is not the best idea but if you are carefull to keep Gatekeeper settings enabled on your Mac, not allow Java in the browser, and just be careful in general on the web, then you can still stay fairly safe on a well updated Mac.
The other benefit to having a separate administrative account is that if your normal user account ever becomes corrupted you can log into the administrative account to solve the issue.
Hope this opinion helps you decide how to proceed.
