  • Deleting pdfs from iBooks?

I have Files HD on my iPad, and when I open a pdf in Files HD and hit the "Open In iBooks" button, it adds the pdf file to my iBooks app (as it should). My problem is that when I delete the pdf from iBooks, it appears to disappear, UNTIL I open another pdf from Files HD... then, every file I've viewed shows up again. How do I permanently remove them from the pdf bookshelf?
    Thanks very much.
edit Opened iBooks without opening another file from Files HD, and it repopulated the pdf list again automatically.

That works if you've loaded the pdf files from iTunes, but when you view them from Files HD it doesn't appear in iTunes when you sync, and it doesn't stay deleted when you delete it from iBooks.
The only way I was able to permanently delete the pdfs from iBooks was to uninstall Files HD from my iPad. Now that iBooks handles pdfs I don't really have a use for it anyway, but it was handy to have for transferring files around.

  • HT201250 Deleting things from computer

If you delete documents from your computer after they have been backed up on the external with time machine, when you pug the external back in to do another back up, does the item you delete from the computer say on the external?

It stays on the external until the drive becomes full. Once the drive becomes full Time Machine will delete old items no longer on the internal drive to make room for new backups. Time Machine is not meant for archival purposes (i.e. permanent backup of old files). If you want a permanent copy of an old file either don't delete it or back it up on CD/DVD (preferably more than one copy).

  • Removing photos from iPad without deleting them from computer?

I just bought an Apple Mac  air laptop.  I have uploaded all my photos from my iPad and, iPod touch.  I need space on my iPad.  Can I delete pictures from my iPad without deleting from the Apple Mac air laptop?  Do I need to change settings on the iPad device:
    1.  iCloud - already increased
    2. Photo stream
I don't know how else to make room for more apps or music unless I remove photos.  Please help!

What do you mean that you uploaded them? If you think that they are being stored in iCloud, then you cannot rely on that. Camera roll photos are backed up in iCloud but can only be restored if you restore the entire backup. You cannot selectively restore photos or files from iCloud. You restore everything or nothing at all.
If you remove the photos and then backup again with iCloud you also stand the chance of overwriting that backup that has the photos in it with a backup that includes none of the photos at all. Then you would have no photos to restore anyway.
If you imported the photos to the Mac using this method, you can safely delete the photos from the iPad without worrying about them being deleted from the Mac.
iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your ...
After you import the photos you can delete them from the iPad, If you import using iPhoto, you will be asked if you want to delete them from the device after the photos are transfer to the Mac.

  • Delete files from computer - not allowed, file in use

Using firefox to upload files online, being this a simple pdf document or a video file, prevents me from deleting the file from my hard drive, once the process is completed. Once I quit the web browser, deleting the file is possible. It looks like firefox is keeping the link to a file in constant use even after the website at which the file was used is no longer opened. Am I missing some something in firefox's properties settings?

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

  • Deleted playlists from computer

For some reason, probably because my son was installing a new computer game, the playlists were deleted from the itunes on my computer. I still have all of them on my Ipod. I'm afraid if I update my ipod, all of the playlists will be deleted. Any solutions?
    thanks

When I first got back on itunes, I got a corrupt message and noticed that all of the songs and playlists with the exception of 10 songs had been deleted from Itunes. I still have all of the songs on my hard drive, so I dragged and dropped them back into Itunes. I was also getting an error message that was saying Determining Gapless Playback Information and on the Itunes screen was going through each of my songs though they did not show up eventually in the Itunes music list. Make sense?

  • Deleting songs from computer once downloaded into my iPod

Once I download songs into my iPod, I no longer need them to take up space on my hard drive. However, when I delete them, the playlist changes so that when I update my iPod with new songs, the old ones on the iPod disappear because they are no longer located on the hard drive. Half the reason I have an iPod is so that I can save hard drive space on my computer. What do I do?

Well, you can leave the song references within iTunes and delete the underlying song files from the PC and it will not (most times) erase the songs on the iPod.
    However....A Big However:
b Deleting songs off of iTunes or your computer is a very bad idea unless you have created one or more backup files of all your songs.
Using the iPod as the sole repository of any of your songs is a very risky practice.
    b When
    i (not ‘if’)
you need to restore the iPod, return the iPod for service, or it's song files are somehow lost or damaged, you will be re-ripping all your CDs back into iTunes and re-purchasing all your iTMS songs. Restoring the iPod is a common ‘fix’ to many small issues that arise.
If you cannot store your songs on a PC or within iTunes, then you will need to have some storage medium in use (an external hard drive, DVDs or CDs). You should also consider a secondary backup medium for additional safety. Whether you keep your music in iTunes or on an external source –
i Multiple copies of your music files are a must!
The iPod is really designed to be playback device - not a primary storage device (although it can be used as such), and certainly not as the
    b only
storage medium for all your music.
Do a search for 'lost music' and/or 'backup' and you will see the woes that folks have in recovering their music files due to a lack of backups.
Here is a link to help you go on your way to a backup regime: Using iTunes for Backing up your music files
Always backup your PC files: both music and data. Backup as frequently as possible. The usual metric is to determine just how much work (hours, days, weeks) or money spent you are willing to repeat by extending out your time between backups. Your choice, your potential headache &/or loss. Many data-savvy folks have more than one backup
    i and
create incremental backups every time they add to or change their Library. Depending on the work I am doing, I may perform several backups during the same day. As they are incremental, and placed on my ExHD – it is a very quick operation to perform several times a day, when needed.
If you are heavily invested in your Library data (playlists, playcounts, ratings, last played, date added, etc.), then
b it is critical that you also make multiple backups of your ‘iTunes Library.itl’ file.
    b iTMS REMINDER:
While you can always take the time to re-rip the CDs you own to restore your iTunes music, if you lose your iTMS purchased music and have no backups, you will have to re-purchase them. Few exceptions are made to this rule – at least none that I am aware of.

  • Stop icloud sync from deleteing photos from computer?

When I ran out of space on my ICloud backup all photots were deleted from my computer -- I find this to be a serious problem - I was using the computer to maintain a backup of the photos on my IPhone - How do I stop ICoud syncing from deleting photos?

How many photos did you have? Photo Stream only keeps the last 1000. If you really want to keep the photos, import them into your iPhoto (or Aperture or Lightroom or whatever photo software you use on the Mac) and not just keep them in Photo Stream.

  • Removing items from desktop without deleting them from computer?

is there a way that i can remove things from my desktop without having to move them to the trash?  i just don't like how they look on the desktop (they're covering my background) and i just want them out of there, but do not want to delete them entirely.

What are these THINGS? Best way to stop THINGS from being placed on the desktop is to stop putting THINGS there.
Files you create should go in folders in either your Documents folder or the respective folders under your username folder, Music, Pictures and the like. There are already folders in your Username folder for those THINGS.
If these THINGS are icons for drives then you can't move them but you can turn off showing them on the desktop.

  • IWork software deleted itself from computer

    Hello,
This is an unusual one.... Somehow, all iWork software has removed itself from my computer. I am definite that I did not accidentally uninstall it.  I checked the app store purchases, and keynote and numbers are showing up. Pages does not seem to be under purchases. This is the one that I use the most. I can find Pages in the app store, but I am unable to install it again. Does anyone know what's going on and how I can fix it?
    Thanks.

  • Problem deleting pdfs

I am trying to delete pdfs from our website which we manage via Contribute CS5 . I can delete a word doc by choose file, select doc, OK then File - Actions - delete page. With a pdf I get a message that 'you can't use Contribute to edit this type of file' and it opens the pdf in Adobe Reader which means I then have no option to delete.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi
I'm having the same problem - when I drop multiple PDFs on the Photoshop Icon, it only opens the first file and then it seems as if Photoshop is trying to display the second open dialogue window but doesn't. I have access to the tools in the tool bar but practically everything in all of the menu's is grayed out. The only options that are available to me are all the OPEN and NEW file options, the CLOSE ALL option and QUIT. Even if I then manually open the files that didn't open, all the menu options stay grayed out. I can choose CLOSE ALL which will close all the open files, and I can choose QUIT but Photoshop does not quit. The only thing to get it to return to normal is FORCE QUIT Photoshop and open the PDFs individually. Fixing Permissions doesn't solve the problem.
    I'm using Photoshop CS5 12.0.1 x64 on a MacBookPro i7.
    Any suggestions anyone?
P.S. I just noticed something - if I click Apple and Period after the first file opens, the second open dialogue appears, and again after the second file opens the third open dialogue appears, etc....
I have deselected 'Open Documents as Tabs' and 'Enable Floating Document Window Docking' but it doesn't cure the problem.

How can i get a pdf from my iPhone to my new macbook? I keep trying to sync but it says it will delete all the books/pdfs on my phone. I don't have this pdf on my computer and don't want to lose it. I am using the same iTunes account. Any suggestions?

    Hello ashlyn888,
Based on your post it sounds like you would like to sync your iBooks content with your computer. I have located an article that may help you in this situation. While you can sync this data with your computer you can also use the sharing button to send PDFs using various sources:

  • After I've heard an audiobook downloaded from the public library, how do I delete it from the Shuffle?  When I plug it into my computer, I get a screen showing how much space is left on the Shuffle but no list of files that I can delete.  WRA

After I've heard an audiobook downloaded from the public library, how do I delete it from the Shuffle to make room for other audiobooks?  When I plug it into my computer, I get a screen showing how much space is left on the Shuffle but no list of files that I can delete.  These books, incidentally do not appear in the ITunes screen.  WRA

Select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  If this is a current 4th (or 3rd) gen iPod shuffle, you should be able to see the contents of the shuffle by type, intented under the shuffle's name (still in the sidebar).  Select Music or Audiobooks (not sure where those items from the library will be listed).  The items will be listed to the right, for each category.  Find the items, select, and delete.
It's on page 20 of the manual
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_4thgen_User_Guide.pdf
NOTE:  If this is an 1st or 2nd gen iPod shuffle, select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  Over to the right, go to the Contents tab, where the items are listed.  Select and delete them from this list.
I find it more convenient to make a playlist in iTunes with things I want to put on the shuffle.  I then set up automatic syncing (or use autofill) to have iTunes load the shuffle from that playlist, automatically.

If I convert  PDF file to a Microsoft Word file can I delete pictures from the converted file?

    Hi sutterrot,
After a successful conversion from PDF to Word, you need to download the converted file locally on your computer.
You can then choose 'Enable Editing' button and then delete images/text or make other changes.
