No early version of iPhoto can open a Library from a later version.
You can try revert the Library with iPhoto Library Manager

  • How to delete photos or songs from iPhone?m by deleting photos or songs

The Apps store tells me I can get an update on an App I downloaded, but to make room for it, I must first delete songs or photos. I have no clue how to do this without also deleting photos or songs from my Mac computer. Is there an easier (or smarter) way to make these deletions from the iPhone?
    Thanks.
    Ralph

If these pictures were transferred from your Mac and you use iPhoto for photo storage selecting iPhoto albums to be transferred to your iPhone, deselect the iPhoto albums under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync to remove the photos from your iPhone. If these were photos that were captured by your iPhone, use iPhoto to import the photos. When the import process is complete, iPhoto will prompt you to erase the imported photos from your iPhone just as when importing photos from any digital camera.
If you want to remove songs that were transferred to your iPhone and you choose an iTunes Playlist or Playlists to be transferred to your iPhone, remove the songs from the Playlist or Playlists in iTunes followed by a sync to remove the songs from your iPhone.

For some reason, the Camera & Scanner Wizard has started to detect the phone now. Maybe it will stop again in the future, but for now it's OK.
I do have iTunes installed, and the iPhone's still not appearing in Windows Explorer. I might reinstall if the problem recurs.
Yep, it's an official Apple cable, but it's a bit old. I got it with my iPod a few years back. Maybe i should start using that as the charger cable, and the new cable i got with my iPhone for syncing?

You mean photos that were transferred from the PC to the iPhone?  You can't delete them directly on the device, not without erasing everything off the device.  You'd have to sync the device with iTunes again, and choose to have no pictures synced.

  • Permanently Deleting Photos and Folders from iPhoto

I just purchased my first iMac on April 2, 2008 and simply love it. Goodbye Windows. WooHoo...
OK, now for my question. I am a semi-professional photographer that commonly takes about 500-1,000 photos during any given photo shoot. Normally (on Windows with Adobe Photoshop), I would load all 1,000 photos into my Adobe Catalog and review them. After a few days of edits and review, I may only want to keep the best 50-100 photos and I delete the others. But when I use iPhoto, even if I delete the 900 extra photos from my Library, they still sit in the iPhoto Library folders and take up space. I have opened the iPhoto Library Package and can see the Data, Modified and Original folders with all of the unwanted files, but I was advised by Apple Support to NEVER delete or remove files by opening the iPhoto "Package".
Is there any way to physically remove the unwanted photos from iPhoto once they are in my iPhoto Library, or do I need to edit and review them outside of iPhoto before I load them into the iPhoto Library which seems to be a permanent thing?
This is a common process for photographers who take a lot of photos. It's nice to be able to review and edit them before deciding on the best ones to keep. Surely there must be an option from within iPhoto that would physically removed the deleted photos and update the iPhoto Library correctly, without having to open the iPhoto Package and risk corrupting the Library.
Since each photo will be between 4MB (jpg) to 10MB (RAW) in size, do I need to use another application for my initial sorting, review and editing, then only import into iPhoto the "Keepers"? If so, what application should I be using?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    As stated above:
Put the pics in the iPhoto trash and then iPhoto Menu -> Empty the Trash
This removes the pics from iPhoto and the Hard Drive.
    A couple of notes:
    1. You need to be in the Library view to do this. If you delete from an album it only removes the pics from the Album. To put pics from an Album directly into the trash use the -delete keystroke
Are you sure that you're in the Library View? This is the most common reason this doesn't work. On a longer shot there may be minor issues with your HD, but first make sure that you're in the Library View when deleting.
Also, I want to have iPhoto write the "Modified" version of my images on top of the "Original"... to save HD space. Can that be done?
No. iPhoto preserves your Original file no matter what. This is hardwired into the application and there is no easy way to defeat it.
You may export all your pics from iPhoto. Empty out the iPhoto Library (put the pics in the trash, empty the trash) then re-import the one previously exported. But this is long winded and will need to be done as your library grows. And, of course, this will defeat the Non-Destructive editing feature of iPhoto.
You can run a library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Of, if you don't want your Original file preserved, then simply don't use iPhoto. There are alternatives out there. Search on MacUpdate.

  • I deleted my LR3 catalog from my MAC IHD; how do I relaunch fromEHD? relaunchfrEHD?

I inadvertently deleteted my LR3 catalog from my Mac internal hard drive. The catalog is situated on an external hard drive. I tried to relauch the catalog into LR but have not been successful. I would relish any advice you can give me. Thank you, Peter

Well to tell you the truth, I'm not sure I understand your situation.
First you say you deleteted (yes, that's your word) the catalog accidentally. Then in the next sentence you say "The catalog is situated on an external hard drive", present tense, as if you are speaking of a different catalog file that you actually have available. So, I think this is a COPY of the catalog file.
    Apparently I misunderstood.
Your catalog file is accidentally deleted. Then, I would say you are in dire straits, and I now give you different instructions.
First, look in the trash can/recycle bin. If it's not there, then:
Second, in Lightroom, try File->Open Recent and see if your catalog can be found that way. If that doesn't work:
You need to downloand and install and run something called an "undelete utility". There are freeware versions available on the internet. This utility may be able to recover deleted files. However, this is crucially important — do not use your computer for anything else except this task. The more you use your computer, the less likely it will be that the file can be recovered. So, this is so important I'm going to say this again, in bold: do not use your computer for anything else except this task.
Lastly, whenever you get this fixed, you need to adopt a comprehensive and regular backup plan that includes your photos and your catalog file.

  • Removing "Deleted Photos to Remove" from Flickr Photostream

Some time ago I had uploaded one collection of photos through Flickr photostream.
Tonight I set up a second collection to upload. I edited the connection to change from "Public" to "Family and Friends" for this upload. It asked me whether to change previous photo permissions or not. At first I said yes. Then I thought it over, especially after a popup box told me that all ratings and comments would be deleted since I had a free Flickr account. Given that, I decided not to change them. So I went into the Flickr photostream window in LR4 (I have not yet published) and when I saw all the previous photos there to be republished, I selected them and deleted them, to avoid having them re-uploaded.
Unfortunately, it didn't have that effect. It put them in a group called "Deleted photos to Remove." I don't want them removed from Flickr. But I can't seem to get them out of this category so I can publish the new photos without removing them. How do I get rid of these images from this window so they won't be removed from Flickr when I upload the new images? Thanks.

Your response is extremely helpful. I began to understand that apparently I was in fact mixing Flickr & LR terminology, even though I didn’t realize it. Given that, you did a remarkable response. I can see that before going further, I need to clear up definitions and terminology.
As background, in the simplest terms I’m thinking of a collection as a catalog section that contains pointers to images (actual or virtual copies) as well as relevant metadata. With that, here’s what I see.
Publish Services Panel. Seems to be only an organizational tool for the program interface.
Publish Service. Hard Drive, Facebook, and Flickr seem to be examples of Publish Services. However I can right-click on Flickr and create another published service on Flickr. So what is a Publish Service, exactly, and why would you want more than one Flickr Publish Service? Perhaps because each Publish Service has its own set of parameters, meaning you could set one Flickr service to Public Sharing and another to Friends and Family. Or you could have different settings for export to Hard Drive? Or, you could set up to publish to an entirely different Flickr account? I’m guessing a Publish Service is simply code/parameters tailored uniquely to each place where you may want to publish?
Photoset. Because initially I right-clicked on the Flickr Publish Service and had the option to create a Photoset or Smart Photoset, I thought Photoset was a LR term connected with the Publish function. I now see if I right-click on Facebook, I get a different set of options – create Collection or Smart Collection. So probably Photoset is a Flickr term, not a LR term? (I’ve used Flickr very sparingly to this point.) I see why that led to confusion.
Publish Connection. Going to Publishing Manager allows me to set up a Publish Connection within the Publish Service. Oddly, when I do that, it seems to set up a second instance of the Publish Service. I’m tempted to think, therefore, that a Publish Service is the specific code tailored uniquely to where I want to publish, and the Publish Connection are the parameters used with that specific instance of the Publish Service?
Collection or Photoset. If I click on a collection under Facebook, or a Photoset under Flickr, I see the relevant photos in the grid, divided into the appropriate categories. (Is this what you mean by Publish Window?) So, what am I looking at? I thought I would be looking at a collection (regardless of what Flickr or Facebook might call it). I would have thought of it as a Publish Collection (pointers to images contained in it, metadata as to the update status of those images, etc.). Based on your comment above, I gather that’s not the case. You say I’m looking at output. I’m not sure what output means in this context. If it’s not a collection, is it a set of images generated on the fly based on the collection? If that’s the case, where do I see the actual Publish collection or smart collection?
Well, that's far more than enough for one post, but I bit the bullet and included it since it was all related. I'll let other items wait since right terminology and defintions are fundamental. I appreciate your help with what for me has been one of the most cryptic parts of LR, and one which is not dealt with in any depth in any of the LR books I have.

Downloaded Yosemite and since then cannot connect to internet or bluetooth mouse - was advised to delete system configuration file from the hard drive and since then cannot start up computer. Any help would be appreciated - cheers.

Boot the MBP with the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys down.  The result should be a display showing a revolving globe.  By following the instructions, you will be able to reinstall the original OSX.  Then you may reinstall Yosemite.
A solid Internet connection will be required.

  • Deleting unwanted web images from hard drive

I discussed with a friend that my computer got up to 70 GB full, and even when I took most of my photos off it, the memory did not increase much. He told me I needed to delete all the unwanted web images which I would have been downloading over the last few years. Could someone please tell me how to do this. Thank you

    Hello Annabel,
You can empty your web browser's cache. This will delete a lot of accumulated stuff from visited sites.
If you are using Safari, from the top menu bar under Safari you should see this option. ( This could vary depending on which version of browser you are using but you get the idea I hope.)
As to your deleting photos, note that after you delete photos etc, you need to _empty the trash_ to recover that disk space again.
If you delete photos from within iPhoto, these images are held in the iPhoto application and the trash has to be deleted from within there to recover the space, rather than Finder.

  • Importing photos into iPhoto from Hard Drive

Mike just downloaded our back up onto our newish Mac after our Macbook bravely went to it's grave in coffee.    I'm now trying to import about 100 - 200G of photos into iPhoto from my hard drive.  I really do not want to spend the whole time selecting and dragging these pictures.  All that I read so far says that is the only way to get them off your hard drive.  Some one please rescue me and tell me there is another way!  Unfortunately I have already started a new photo album with pictures from my iPhone, so I can't just start a new album with these pics.  Thanks for any help I can get. ~Kari A.

first off do not import an old library into iPhoto - it does not work
If you have an old library you simply drag it to the new computer and launch iPhoto while depressing the option key to get the select library window and then select it - repeat to select a different library
If you have just the photos (not =an iPhoto library) then simply drag the folder of photos to iPhoto
