Even if you haven’t backed up your iPad with iTunes manually, iTunes might have backed up it automatically each time you sync your iPad with iTunes. If you have enabled iCloud, every time, your iPad is connected to Wifi and a power source, and the screen is locked, iCloud will automatically backup your photos. So try to restore the deleted photos from iTunes or iCloud backup first if the backups were created before the deletion.

If you don’t want to restore your iPad with an out-of-date backup, erase all the content and settings on your iPad, and go back to an older iOS version, try to extract your iPad photos from your iTunes or iCloud backup with the iPhone backup extractor.
Other than restoring from iTunes or iCloud backup, there are still at least 3 other solutions for you to recover deleted photos on iPhone (also works for iPad):
Extracting from previous iTunes backup;
Retrieving directly from iPhone;
Copying from other backups.

Can't delete photos from iTunes synch on phone

Is this a normal thing on an iPhone 4S that I cannot find the bin icon to delete photos or photo folder that was synched from my laptop? I have to delete the folder from iTunes and then synch the phone again. I keep looking for the bin icon on each photo or on the folder on the phone but I cannot find it. I went to edit and couldn't find any delete function.

Photos synced to iphone from your computer are deleted the same way - the sync process.
The iphone simply mirrors the selected content of your computer. It does not act as a storage device.

I have removed photos from iPhotos and they still appeart in lists in iTunes and download to my iPhone and iPad and even show on the Apple TV. I cannot see them on the Mac and do now want them taking up space on my devices.
How do I get rid of them from the iTunes list?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there.
Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A Finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache. Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

I have an iPad 4th gen. i want to update iOS 8 but the iPad tells me i don't have enough space. I want to delete photos but the iPad will not let me do so. I do not seem to have iTunes. i have a red icon that is named music but it does not appear to be iTunes. How can i get rid of the photos? Thanks.

You will have an iTunes app on your iPad (unless you've hidden it via Settings > General > Restrictions), but you don't use it to delete photos - the iTunes app on iOS devices allows you to browse and buy/download content from the iTunes store, its connecting to a computer's iTunes that allows you to sync/delete content
How did the photos get onto your iPad ? If you took them with the iPad, copied them to it via the camera connection kit, or saved them from emails/websites etc on your iPad, then you can delete them directly in the iPad's Photos app - either via the trashcan icon bottom right if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the Select button in thumbnail view.
If the photos were synced from a computer then they are deleted in the same way as they got on, they can't be deleted directly in the Photos app - you will need to connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and change your photo sync selections on the Photos tab on your computer's iTunes and re-sync. If you want to delete all synced photos then select an empty folder on that Photos tab and sync that

You can't delete straight from the iphone. You need to remove it by syncing again. If that didn't work for you last time, you can reimport nothing but giving it the same file name and it basically writes over what was on the phone. I only got my iphone 2 days ago so there may be other ways, but wow, so much for user friendly!

I only want to share music between our devices. I don't want her pics nor my pics to go to icloud/itunes.

Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.

Create a NEW account for using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.

Replying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....

If you used iTunes to get the photos on the phone, then use the same iTunes and uncheck the music you don't want and do another sync.

I would guess that a TV series takes up a fair amount of storage capacity. It is just a standard message I think that may indicate that you are actually running low on storage space.
If you go to Settings>General>About how many GBs are specified as being available? If you are low on space maybe deleting some apps may help.

I see the photos tab and "My Pictures" folder shows. Sync is unselected. It asks if I want to delete the photos when I click on sync and I said yes but it didn't work. It does seem that some photos are removed based on available storage left (decreases). If I select individual folders, subfolders of "My Pictures" then hit Sync deselected Sync doesn't even start.

Were the photos taken by your new iPhone? If so, did you not import them off your phone to your computer (as you would any other digital camera) before the restore? If not, restoring wiped the data off the phone and your pictures are gone.
Sounds like a good time to (re)read the User Guide.
