Delete Previous Version - file associations

Have a question on file association problems when deleteing previous version of PS.
For example user bought CS5 and  installed.  File Associations now changed by defauilt to CS5.
If user un-installs CS4, the file associations now revert back to CS4, even though that version is not on computer.
Changing file associations is Bridge and in the OS does not solve file association problem.
One either has to uninstall PS and wipe Adobe files, then re-install latest version, or go into OS registry and make changes.  Registry changes can be difficult for many.
I am sure when CS6 is released we will again have this same scenero, as outlined above, repeated unless the code has been changed.
The question is:  In CS6 will this bug have been eliminated?

Just because it's happend to multiple people doesn't make it not machine or user specific (a problem with user permissions on one computer can happen on another as well). I've never seen this behavior on any of my systems and I have to install and uninstall random versions of the software all the time. The most recently installed version of the software should always have the file type associations, regardless of what versions have been removed.
Have you been able to reproduce the issue on your own machine during testing?

Can anyone tell me how to delete previous "keep file" files? Im trying to free up some space on my mac.

You can upgrade to Mavericks free, just run the App Store program and search for Mavericks. But before you do upgrade I recommend the following:
    1) make sure you have a recent backup. TimeMachine is fine.
    2) Mavericks is somewhat more memory hungry than 10.7 was. You will need 4 GB of RAM and I strongly recommend 8 GB.
Go back to the Apple menu and select About this Mac - look under the OS info you just looked at. You'll see how much RAM your computer has now. Then click on the More Info button. There you will see your computer info listed as in: iMac, 21.5" mid 2010, for example. Return back with that information and we can tell you how far the computer can be upgraded.
If you decide to procede and you have enough RAM upgrading to Mavericks is quite simple. Click on the download button and let it do its job.

  • Deleting previous versions of file in RSC

Is there a way to delete earlier versions of a file or group
of files within a RSO3 database? I've looked through the
documentation and have had no luck.
Example: I want to delete all versions of topics prior to
    release 1.0.

Hmm. I'd thought that you could delete old versions of
topics, but I don't see a way to do it, either. Sorry. Generally,
there's not a need to do that, though.

  • Delete previous version?

Just upgraded from PS & PE 8.0 to PS & PE 10.0.  Can I now delete the 8.0 versions without effecting the new upgrade installation?

For the most part, removing the previous version after installing a newer version is perfectly safe because they each install independantly. However, if you are on Windows, it is possible that file associations may be erased by the uninstall process. If this happens simply right-click on a file and choose Open With to re-establish associations.

  • Downloaded latest version to Mac OS X 10.4.11, deleted previous version, now flag tells me 4.0 won't work on this Mac -- how can I download a previous version?

Received a prompt today to download the latest Firefox version, it proceeded as a normal download, asked if it should replace previous version, I selected "Yes", and...a flag telling me, a little tartly, that this version is incompatible with my operating system. Help!

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • How To Prevent ATV From Deleting Previously Synced Files?

    Hi,
Due to the limited size of my laptop hard drive I have to move the downloaded movies and music video from iTunes to an external USB hard drive after syncing them with the ATV.
I double click in iTunes the moved file to relocate it again on the external drive so it won't appear as a missing or deleted file.
But just today, iTunes started to sync a new downloaded movie and erased all of the files that I removed from the laptop hard drive.
So who can I prevent ATV from deleting those relocated files?
    Thanks.

if itunes opens up and the external drive is not attached, it is going to flag any file it references on the external drive as unavailable. if the file is not made available and located by itunes before the apple tv syncs with itunes, then the file will also be made unavailable to the apple tv (correct me if i've got this wrong, but i'm fairly certain this is how it goes).
itunes and apple tv utilize a sync relationship, and in any device/host sync relationship one or the other has to win during a database conflict.
iTunes always wins if the file originates from itunes (i say this because when you purchase from the ATV, the ATV will push the file to iTunes that first time, but afterward if you remove it from iTunes it will be removed from the Apple TV. This is a little bit off subject but it is relevant as it is the only time the Apple TV gets to win). Otherwise, if it's not in iTunes, it won't be on the apple tv (when the two sync with each other).
if you want to prevent the ATV from deleting the relocated files, make sure they are available in itunes when the ATV syncs with itunes.
let us know if you make any observations where the files are available and this continues to happen.

  • While trying to reinstall itunes it comes up saying cannot delete previous version of itunes

My previous itunes was giving me issues so i decided to reinstall it. I searched up what i had to delete and uninstall so i took off the stuff from the control panel and in program files i was wondering what else i have to do because it keeps giving me the same message every time. Apple Support also was no real help.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies. The notes below the box include tips on removing troublesome components.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Can't delete Previous System File

    Hi,
I did an archive and install and was left with a Previous System folder that is about 13G. I used "whatsize" app to move it to the trash where I then did a Secure empty trash. Trash can is empty, but when I run Whatsize again, the same previous system folder is still there, taking up 13G's of hard drive space. Any idea how to get rid of this file?
    Thanks!

  • Deleting previous versions of iPod and iTunes software

I'm trying to clean house. Is it safe for me to delete the older versions of iPod and iTunes software that are on my C drive? I would probably die if I lost or misplaced my music files! Thanks.

  • Can I Delete Previous Versions of iPod Updater from my Powerbook?

    Hello,
I am running out of room (quickly!) on my harddrive of my Powerbook. So I decided to do some spring cleaning and delete old and unnecessary files and applications from my Powerbook.
I noticed under the Utilities section, there are about 6 versions of the "iPod Updater". Can I safely delete all prior versions (except the most recent) from my computer without any negative consequences? Will I still be able to use iTunes, my iPod, etc without problems? Are these old versions not needed?
The versions currently on my harddrive are:
    iPod Updater 2006-01-10
    iPod Updater 2005-03-23
    iPod Updater 2004-11-15
    iPod Updater 2004-08-06
    iPod Updater 2004-04-28
    iPod Software 2.1 Updater
    Thank you!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

If your iPod is working normally, you don't need to keep old versions of the iPod updater around; the most recent one should be kept. If you delete one of the updaters, it is safe to delete the accompanying receipt from the /Library/Receipts/ folder.

  • How could I delete the physical files associated with songs that iTunes has matched to iCloud Match?

I would like to make room on my external drive.
I need to be able to delete the songs that are matched in iTunes.
Using the delete right-click option does remove the entry form the itunes Directory but NOT the physical files.
I have my iTunes Library manually managed.
I cannot recognized from the Folder which files are linked to songs that are matched and which ones are not.
    Any help will be welcomed.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.

  • OK to delete "Previous Systems" file?

I noticed that after installing 10.5 (or maybe 10.5.1, because of the date), I have a folder called "Previous Systems" with a folder inside that called 2008-01-27_1835. Is it okay to delete this? It's taking 15 GB of space on my disk. Everything is working fine.

    Hi J Micael;
If the Previous Systems folder was from either 10.5 or 10.5.1, then the chances of it being of any use are really slim. I think that deleting it will be a good thing.

  • Numbers 3 crashes when opening some previous version files

I upgraded to Mavericks and Numbers 3 a week or so ago. Most of my old numbers spreadsheets open fine. A few do not. I tried the restore standard fonts fix, but that didn't work. The files that are not opening are large, with lots of charts. Is there any way I can reinstall or revert back to the earlier version of Numbers, or preferably run both versions at the same time? I could then clean up the file and see if I can get it to load in the new version.

This issue resolved by iWorks team. Thanks so much!

  • Deleting previous version's cache

I have installed CS5 and removed CS4.  Can I delete the Bridge CS4 cache?  It is using a lot of disc space
    thanks

In my experience I've encountered no problems deleting Bridge cache for cs4 or cs5 (though I haven't uninstalled cs4).  I'll do this from time to time to clean out old full size (100 percent) previews, which seem to be the largest cache disk space user.  Bridge just rebuilds what it needs (not a consideration for your uninstalled cs4).
