Delete Printers in HD/Library/Printers folder

On my wife's iBook we need to get her a bit more hard drive space (original 30 gb hd) so I am wondering if can we remove the Printer folders we don't expect to use in the HD/Library/Printers folder?

Yes if those files are not for the manufacture printer she's using. Any drivers for anything other than her printer... move them to the Trash.
I understand free space issues on an iBook, mine's 40GB. I keep it as lean as possible.

  • Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?    Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.

You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed.  Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See:  Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support

If you have enough iCloud storage.  But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.

  • How can I move the ~/Library/Mail folder?

I partition my hard drives into Startup/OSX, Tools, and several data volumes. I would MUCH rather store email and attachments in a data volume, as I do all my other work product, big application caches, Music, and Pictures folders. I have tried aliases and symbolic links, and everything is ignored by Mail; no mailbox is recognized unless it is in the original location, unlike Pictures, Music, Movies, etc.
I would appreciate having control over this. Does anyone have ay tips or workarounds? I am capable of diddling plists and other config files at a fairly low level, if necessary.

If you are keeping virtually everything in your Home folder on a different volume, then perhaps a better solution is to move the entire Home folder. You can move the entire Home folder to another volume, then direct Leopard to use the Home folder in the new location.
Open Accounts preferences, click on the lock icon and authenticate. Click on your account entry then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Advanced Options from the contextual menu. To the right of the field labeled "Home Directory" is a button labeled "Choose." Click on the button, locate your new Home folder, select it and click on the Open button. Now restart the computer. You should now be using the relocated Home folder.
Now, if you would rather not do that then you can move the /Home/Library/Mail/ folder to the other drive. You will then need to create a soft link to this location using the Terminal command "ln -s source target" without quotes. You must first delete the original /Home/Library/Mail/ folder. So your command may look like:
    ln -s /Volumes/volname/PathToNew/Mail ~/Library/Mail
The "~" tilde is the Unix shorthand for your user folder.
This should create a new folder in /Home/Library/ named Mail which is a symbolic link to the relocated Mail folder.

  • Need to recover Library/LaunchDaemons folder.

I deleted the Macintosh HD/Library/LaunchDaemons folder by mistake when I pressed Enter prematurely while using Terminal to try to delete the Parallels plist file.  I have a recent version of the folder on the Time Machine HD but it won't let me restore it into the Library folder as the OS is in use.  I was able to restore it to the desktop
Any way to do this?  If I need to use Terminal, I'll need the commands.

I may have figured this out by myself.  But first, I need to add that the OS did not allow me to copy the restored folder from the desktop to the Library Folder.
So, what I did was to create a new folder in the Library directory.  I then copied the files from the restored folder on the desktop to the new folder and then renamed the folder LaunchDaemons.  Seems to have worked OK.
    Did I break anything?

    /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed
HP printer problem after upgrade!  Any fix?

Try a reset of the printing system.
Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
Move the cursor over the Printers list
    Hold down Control and click
    Select 'Reset printing system' popup
This will delete all your print queues but not the drivers, so you will only have to add the queue to the HP again.

  • How do I find OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj

This fix has worked for a number of fellow sufferers who possess more intricate knowledge of the Mac OS.
I wish to join that happy band!
    Thanks.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide /Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj

I have an Epson 2200 which was in perfect working condition until just now when I received the following error message: /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS /.  What to do???

    Hello kelsey1942,
It sounds like you are not able to print to your Epson 2200.  I found an article with steps you can take to troubleshoot printer issues on a Mac:
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
    Additional Information
Note: If your printer is wireless-capable, you should first add the printer to your network. Use the printer's control panel, or temporarily connect the printer to your Mac via USB.  For more details, see this article.

    Hello
First time on board so I may have some things missing. I have a iMac 27' I5, airport extreme router and comcast network. Using a hp Office jet Pro 8500a plus printer. I can print a page from the "printer contol panel" such as self test diagnostic page. When I try to print a page from my printer the printer goes thru the motions but on the printer q it says error with this message " /Library/Printers/hp/cups/inkjet3.driver/contents/macOS/Inkjet3failed." Called Hp followed theiradvice, reinstalled printer software for 10.7  but same result.
I'm not sure what to do next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am a happy, new Apple convert after many years on PC.

  • How can I fix this permissions "Library/Printers-should be 80 group is 0. Permissions differ. And User differs on "private/var/db/displaypolicyd" should be 0; Group is 244?

How can I fix this on my 2014 iMac, please?
Verifying permissions for “Macintosh HD”Group differs on “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”; should be 80; group is 0.Permissions differ on “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”; should be -rw-rw-rw- ; they are -rw-r--r-- .User differs on “private/var/db/displaypolicyd”; should be 0; user is 244.Group differs on “private/var/db/displaypolicyd”; should be 0; group is 244.
I run the "fix" and it seemingly does, but if I verify permissions again later it returns.
    Thank you!

It's not an error but an informative message that you can safely ignore. it's innocuous.

  • Group differs on "Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist"; should be 80; group is 0.

When running disk utility, repair permissions, this error message keeps coming up. I have had to repair permissions more than once for this. Why would my printer group change if I am not changing it? What is group 80 versus group 0?
Group differs on “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”; should be 80; group is 0.
iMac mid-2011, Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 with latest updates

Yes, I keep getting the same thing, on Yosemite 10.10.1 , and it seems to happen multiple times, per up-time session .
Apparently, the group-id-number that is equivalent to "80" is actually named "admin", and the group-id-number that is equivalent to "0" is actually named "wheel", which is the super-user alter-ego of the user-id-number "0" ("root") .
This recurring "permissions" warning, and repair, isn't listed in Apple's "Disk Utility Permissions that you can Safely Ignore" (with an article modification-date of NOV 19, 2014):

  • "iPhoto Library" icon/folder deleted by mistake, how do i recover it?

Fist off i am not a iMac genius, so bear with me as you read .  I Just bought an Imac (21.5 monitor and 1TB with OS X Lion 2012 version).  After transferring all my photos in the "Picture" folder (click, drag and drop into the "finder" then into the "picture" folder (not iPhoto yet) I then selected all the photos (dozens of folders and over 8,000 photos) click and drag then into iPhoto and they all successfully transferred (which took several minutes).  I noticed when transferring most of the photos over it gave me the option to either transfer or discard duplicates, i chose to not import the duplicates.  Since i had ALL my photos in iPhoto i decided to delete the old file that i copied earlier and empty the trash.  In the deleting frenzy i accidentally deleted the "iPhoto Library" icon/folder )or whatever that picture is) and every time I open up iPhoto now it asked to either locate "iPhoto Album 1" (which can not be found) or start another album (which would be "iphoto Library 2" which opens up with none of my pictures.)  Sooooo, after freaking out i downloaded 2 file recovery software program which seems to have found most if not all the pics (still need to pay to get a key code to get them back), however since i delted the photos that transferred into the finder>picture folder and did not delete any photos form iPhoto itself is there a way to get back the "iPhoto Library" that housed all my pictures?  In theory all my pics are still in the hard drive but i do not know where to look for that little "iPhoto Library" icon/folder.  What is the best Apple/Mac recovery software to purchase to get them back?  Or are they all the same?  Or is there a file buried deep in the hard drive that are hiding all my photos that tech support can guide me to?  And if there is, how to i search for that?  Any help would be great!

however since i delted the photos that transferred into the finder>picture folder and did not delete any photos form iPhoto itself is there a way to get back the "iPhoto Library" that housed all my pictures?
    No.
Inside that package are thouands of files - your photos, thumbnails, face thumbnails, database, metadata, cache and other files. To reconstruct the Library you would need to get all of these in exactly all the correct locations. That's not going to happen.
Best you can hope for is to recover the actual photos and then start over from scratch.
Unless you have a back up of course...
    Do you?

  • Latest updates delete System/Library/StartupItems folder

One of the following updates delete the System/Library/StartupItems folder:
Migration Assistant Update for Mac OS X Snow LEopard 1.0
    Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.1
    Safari 5.1
    Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.0
    iTunes 10.4
    iWork Update 6 9.1
This is on a MBP 13-inch, Early 2011 running 10.6.8.
It causes the machine to freeze at intermitent periods of times and reports the following error message in the console:
com.apple.launchd [1] (com.apple.SystemStarter) Failed to count the number of files in "/System/Library/StartupItems" : No such file or directory
There have been posts on how to fix this, but why is it being deleted by these updates?

I have the same console mesages repeating ad-nasium as you do. What is interesting is I do have the StartuoItems directory but it is empty. The problem I have is that the log-in window comes up as normal, but I can not type in it for about 5-8 seconds. This has started after the latest updates which you mention. Don't know if this issue is related or not. Have deleted the loginwindows and loginitems preferences to no effect.

Please help needed os x lion I wish to transfer photos from the iPhoto library to a album or folder then delete them from the Library but when I do this it also deletes them from the album ? how do I do this please.

Albums are not places to store photos, they're more like "labels" you can apply to photos to better organize them. A single image file can be in multiple albums... they are not copies, it's simply been labelled as being in all those albums. So what you're trying to do doesn't make sense, because it's based on incorrect assumptions.
The iPhoto library will always show all photos that you have added to iPhoto.

    What should I do?

The first thing you should do is re-write your post to make it a bit more understandable. I got you have an Epson printer connected to your PC, however after that  your post doesn't make any sense. Are you attempting to print from your iMac, if so then you need to download and install Bonjour for Windows on your Windows machine. Then set Windows so it has printer sharing turned on and then on the iMac simply follow Apple's instructions for adding a printer.
