Delete Saved externa monitor preferences

Hi all,
I have realised that my mac remember the external displays I connect.
Is there a way to delete that information?
Thanks
Manuel

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Illustrator. Your current settings are deleted.

  • External Monitor Preferences

I bring my Macbook Pro to work every day and plug it into an external monitor on my desk. When I plug it in, I have to go through a routine that involves changing the resolution on the external monitor, then switching it back to mirror displays (because when you change the resolution, it goes back to one big display) and then sometimes I have to change the resolution again. Is there any way to get system preferences to remember to mirror displays whenever I plug in an external monitor? Also, I can see it ID's the monitor, can't it remember the preferences somehow?

    I guess no one knows.

  • External monitor recognized but blank

Trying to hook my Dell U2410 up as the main monitor. It sees it just fine and I can mess wit the settings, but the screen is blank. It does this in OSX and Win7 on the bootcamp side.
I'm running out of the display port to dvi.
I know the monitor is good as it is my primary desktop display.
    Any ideas?

In the external monitor preference panel have you set it to NTSC at 60Hz ?
If you switch back and forth between Mirror and Extended Desktop does it flash at all ?

  • External Monitor on Macbook Pro freezes after deleting old profiles

    Environment:
15 inch MacBook Pro, Mid 2010, 2.4 GHz, 8GB, NVIDIA GeForce graphics
    Yosemite 10.10.1
External Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 245T running in Extended Mode with the laptop
I have been using the above setup for several years with no issues. Yesterday I did a calibration of the external SyncMaster monitor with Datacolor Spyder3 as I have done many times in the past. The calibration was saved, but an error message flashed by before the file was saved. Checking with the ColorSync utility, the new saved colorspace appeared somewhat smaller than the last one.
I noticed that I had too many old profiles from previous calibrations still there, so I tried cleaning the directory up. I opened System Pref/Display/Color, clicked on an unwanted profile and delete the profile, and reset it to the profile that I wanted. Repeated this a few times and the SyncMaster appeared to be good.
Now I tried the same with the Macbook. Fine, deleted a few profiles but something now messed up the SyncMaster. It colors, including the dock, contorted to an ugly mess. Cursor changed to a spinning wheel, and I could not click or select anything either on the SyncMaster or the Mac. Rebooted, pulling the Syncmaster adapter out of the mac. Everything good, until I plug the Syncmaster back in, and I am back to the spinning wheel.
There must be some way to uninstall, re-install the Syncmaster?
    How can I resolve this?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Aha, all is good.
    I went to Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
    and to home/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
and deleted all SyncMaster.icc files. I did leave behind one SyncMaster file in the home/../Displays which had an old date and I new was ok.
Rebooted, plugged in SyncMaster, and a new icc file was automatically created in the /Library/../Displays folder.
    My display works normally, now.

  • Is my external monitor supposed to show up in system preferences?

I called LG because my LG monitor keeps getting stuck in 'Power Saving Mode' and the LG customer service rep said it's because my MacBook isn't recognizing the monitor.  He said that the external monitor is supposed to show up in system preferences when it is plugged in.  Is that correct?

It should show up in the System Preferences, Displays preference pane.

I have a PowerBook G4 with a non-functioning monitor.  It used to work with an external monitor, but I reinstalled the OS, which cleared the display preferences and now when I restart it won't detect the external monitor. This means I can't use the computer anymore. How do I fix? I tried using the Command+F2 keyboard shortcut, but it doesnt' work.  It's possible that since I reinstalled the OS, it still needs to be set up, so there's only a welcome screen (but since I can't see it I'm not sure).

There is no limit to the number of times you can re-install Office on the same computer.
    You can activate by telephone:

  • External monitor resolution setting is not saved

I use an external monitor as an extended desktop for my macbook pro.
The problem is that whenever I turn on the mbp, the resolution of the external monitor reverts back to the default resolution. Is there any way to set the resolution of the external monitor and have the mbp save it even after turning the mbp on and off?

    Hello all,
After installing the 10.5.2 update, my Macbook Pro's boot time increased. So, after researching this issue, I decided to reset the PRAM. This solved the boot time problem, as my Mac now boots as quickly as it did prior to the update. But now, the brightness setting is not saved and the brightness level returns to the maximum value each boot up. Other settings, like audio level, are saved properly. The brightness seems to be the only problem. Any ideas on how to correct this?
    Thanks,
    Anthony
Besides staying with 10.5.1 has anyone found a real solution to this? I want to install Aperture and I need to have 10.5.2 installed in order to instal Aperture v2.x.
    Thanks!

Open Keychain Access located in your Applications > Utilities folder.

Type Facebook in the search field on the right then right or control click the Facebook keychain then click: Get Inf then select the Attributes tab.
    Click Show Password:

  • Drop frames on external monitor

Hi, recently im having some troubles with cc 7.2.1, one of them is when i have cuda enabled i have droped frames on my external and program monitor, but the timeline is fast and i can edit, im editing a short documentary with 4 hours of footage in h264 from 5D an 7 D, on a usb 3 external. I have a macbook pro (late 2013) 16G ram , i 7, mavericks osx.
When i select software only i dont have drop frames on my external but i can't edit, because everything on the timeline lags. Image takes a long time to load on the program monitor and external monitor, impossible to do trim, takes ages for images with time code to apear.
When scrubing on the timeline, the CTI takes a lot of time to catch up. It seems like she is connected to a ruber band, it moves back before moving to my selected position!!
Do you guys think deleting cache and preferences will help? ( how can i delete them ?)
    Thanks

    Hi,
I was wondering if there had been any progress on this?  I'm experiencing a similar problem myself with my MacBook Pro (Late 2013, i7, Nvidia 750M) in that I'm getting dropped frames when using an external monitor.  My set up may be slightly different though but the results appear similar.
My timeline, program and source windows are all on the external monitor (Samsung SA850) connected via thunderbolt to mini display port.  The playback monitor window is set to full screen on the MacBook pro and that is where the dropped frames occur. If I unselect using a playback monitor and just use the external Samsung as described, things appear fine.
I'm editing a mixture of H264 and ProRes clips on an hour long timeline with nested sequences.
Any advice on possible solutions or things to try in order to troubleshoot would be much appreciated.
    Many Thanks.

  • No Image on External Monitor

My external monitor has become very difficult to use with my PowerBook, but I don't know what I did to cause this.
I am using a Samsung SyncMaster 910T as an external display via the Apple VGA - DVI adaptor with a 15-inch PB G4, and for years it has worked properly in Dual Display and Mirror modes . . . but recently I have trouble getting the display to show ANY image at all. This is NOT always the case, sometimes it does appear but usually it won't, I cannot get a bead on what is causing this, seems I have made some self-defeating adjustment that recurs almost every time I plug it in.
I currently disconnect and reconnect the display EVERY day because I take the PB to work and plug in when I return home. The DISPLAYS preference pane does list the Samsung and all the various resolution options, seems the PB can detect it, but the image just isn't there. I only recently discovered there even was an option to assign different resolutions to the external display -- again, it worked properly for years at the same resolution as the PB so I never adjusted it. I suspect that the difference is than now I disconnect & reconnect daily whereas before it was done much less often.
I followed Mac OS Help instructions recently and performed a SAFE RESTART, which returned the display's image but it rarely "mounts" when I plug it into the PB, and the external display seems to work ONLY when set with a rather low unattractive resolution such as 800x600 at 60Hz.
For over 4 years I never adjusted the external's resolution and it always worked just fine with the same resolution as the PB . . . I edited broadcast-quality video on the setup for over two years every day and never adjusted anything. I now play trial-and-error almost daily just to get image on the external, and almost every time I switch between DUAL and MIRROR modes it goes away.
I'd like to find settings that can be "saved" if possible, so those settings prevail each time I connect the external . . . any thoughts on how to rectify this? Will I ever get back to trouble-free matching resolutions on the two screens?

Hi, Jimmy. Another thing you may want to try is resetting the PRAM in the monitor. With many monitors you can do this by disconnecting the monitor from AC power and from the Mac for 15 minutes, then plugging the monitor into an AC power outlet but not connecting it to your Mac, and turning the monitor on for a couple of minutes. The monitor will probably display nothing; if it does display anything, ignore it. Then turn it off and unplug the AC power for another 15 minutes. Finally, hook it up to your Mac as usual and test again.

  • External monitor shows black screen

    Hey fella's,
I have an early 2011, 11'' Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.1, which I've been hooking up to an IPS226 LG Flatron external monitor.
It did a number on me last week: the external monitor decided to show only a completely black screen. Like it's in power saving mode, except it isn't: the Mac recognises its existence, the laptop's monitor becomes a secondary screen. When I unplug the external monitor, it says "switching to power saving mode" and then goes black again...
Here's the kicker: I tried hooking it up to other laptops using different cables (mine is HDMI, so I tried VGA to another laptop) - worked like a charm. Then, when I plugged mine back in, also worked! Until today. Now it's happened again. What sorcery is this?
    Thanks!

    Hi Polindrom,
To troubleshoot this issue where the external display you're using with your Mac appears blank, please follow the directions outlined below.
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • Playback on external monitor

    Hello!
I recently purchased a new dell 22 inch monitor to accompany my 20 inch alum imac. (and to replace a crappy old dell monitor).
Previously i used that monitor for fullscreen playback of my HDV video out of Final Cut Pro (FCS2). I just upgraded to snow leopard.
So i hook up the new monitor (VGA until the DVI adapter comes in).. looks very nice. Go into FCP and change it to play on the external monitor just like before.
But now when i try to play, it only shows the frame i started playback at (audio is fine) and then updates the frame when i stop playback. The picture looks amazing.. but i kind of need the realtime playback! On the old monitor it played back fine. (i have it set to "show all frames"
Specs. Mac OS X 10.6 SL. 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo w/ 4gb ram. Video is stored on FW 800 drive with 500gb. FCS 2.
If you need anymore info please let me know!

Try using Final Cut Pro Rescue to delete some preferences.
Can you test it using full screen with another format besides HDV to see if it works?

  • No playback to external monitor Premiere CC

    Hello all ~
Mid-job (and of course now that I need to color correct), PP CC has stopped exporting video to my external monitor.  I have tried trashing prefs (holding Shift+Opt at start-up) and it doesn't do the trick.  In looking around, I've noticed people having this problem when using some BlackMagic cards, but my monitor is plugged directly into the Thunderbolt connector of my MacBook Pro. I've enclosed my Playback settings.
Oddly enough, when I fire up my old copy of PP CS6 it plays back to my external monitor just fine.
I've had had enough late-night edits that I may have inadvertently initiated some keystroke that changed a setting, but I can't think of what that would be or why a Preference Trash wouldn't reset it.   Any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks much.

Well, after much poking and prodding I found out what happened and how to fix it.  If you look at the picture below, you can see that there is a row of razor-thin pixels pushing into my external monitor.  So basically what happened was that I resized the window and thought that I had dragged it completely onto my main monitor, but my Program Monitor and Timeline were still ever-so-slightly overlapping onto my external monitor.  When I moved them fully onto my main monitor, the video on my external monitor reappeared.
HOWEVER ( ! ), this does beg the question of why this problem remained as I did reset my editing workspace, I did trash preferences and I did do a complete uninstall/reinstall of PP CC... and still had the same problem.  Shouldn't  any one of those processes have put things back to where they were supposed to be? Where are these residual settings being stored, and how can you get rid of them if even a complete reinstall won't do the trick?
Would have saved a lot of time if they had worked as advertised.  Happy to be up and running (and color correcting) though and hope this can help others who might be having the same problem.

  • DVI connected external monitor now having mouse troubles

Hi Everyone, I'm new. I recently bought a 27inch imac and a DVI adapter to hook up a second monitor. When the second monitor is plugged in and on everything is ok. When the second monitor is unplugged everything is ok. When the second monitor is pluged in but turned off my mouse skips LOTS. Like it lags a bit then will shoot off to the side of the screen. I tried other mice (apple and microsoft) and different mouse pads/none/paper and no difference. I rang applecare (before I realised it was to do with the monitor) and they told me my mouse was stuffed.... Im convinced the imac gets confused when anothe monitor is connected. Others on mac rumors are having trouble also... Any ideas please?
    Cheers
    Jaidan

    Hello,
I can confirm this problem on my iMac 27" of Mid 2010.
At first in June, when i bought it, i had no problem whatsoever connecting my external Samsung 226bw. It worked like a charm.
After some time, maybe a month of daily use, the iMac refused to wake up the external monitor after waking from sleep mode. Now the problem only got even worse, as it now refuses to power up the external monitor when booting too.
The funny thing is it springs alive after a random period of time. (between 2 to 4 hours)
When the iMac is in its 'Im ignoring your external monitor, Sir' mode, my magic mouse is very jumpy and laggy, like described earlier on in this thread. When the monitor comes alive, the mouse behaves normal.
Now i've been looking into this problem quite some time now on the net, and all i can find are mostly confirmations of people having the same problem.
There are some suggestions here and there on what to do, like resetting nvram or the SMC, deleting windowserver preferences files etc, but none of them seem to solve the issue.
Strange thing is that Apple doesn't move a word about this? At least an acknowledgment of some sort, letting us know they are aware of the problem and maybe try to fix it.
