Delete site published using FTP

I am moving from iWeb to Wordpress.  Not knowing about the process, I expect that deleting the iWeb site is necessary.  I attempted to delete using the help instructions.  Nothing happens when I press the delete key with the site name selected.
Any idea on what I need to do?
Thank you!

If you have published your site to MobileMe, then simply log into your MobileMe account and either mount your iDisk on your desktop or access it and delete your site from there.
If you have published your site to a server then download something like Cyberduck for free which is a dedicated ftp client and connect to your server in this way and delete your old files directly from the server which you will be able to see if you use Cyberduck.

  • IWeb Creates Extra "Site" Directory When I Publish Using FTP

    My website URL is, http://mysite.verizon.net/eboggess. My site is "eboggess." When I publish my "site" to my ftp server at Verizon, I get the following directory structure, which includes an extra "site" directory (eboggess): http://mysite.verizon.net/eboggess/eboggess/Welcome.html. I want to get rid of the extra eboggess directory. Is there a way to publish just the contents of my "site" directory to the Verizon ftp server, so that I have a sensible web root? Thanks.

    Guess I'll have to tell him to rename his site into something really pointless, like "p", to make the url be domain.tld/username/p/index.html
    The url he gives people for his site should just be domain.tld/username, right?
    As for what appears in the browser address bar, I always wonder why that matters to anyone, but the way iWeb works, complete iWeb sites always show the site name. iWeb's ftp does not have an option to upload incomplete sites. If you want to get rid of the site name, you must manually change the site structure either before or after uploading. If you do that, any RSS subscribe links will not work. Another option may be to forward www.domain.com to www.domain.com/sitename.
    Apple can be asked to provide more ftp options in future iWeb updates via this link:

  • Photo Albums & Photos Disappear when publishing using ftp

    Hi,
    I am having trouble with both my iweb sites photos. There is two main problems:
    1. An album that appears normally in iweb is not visable on the published site
    2. An album will have random photos that are missing and replaced with a blank on the published site
    Some things I have tried:
    - I publish via ftp, so I tried publishing to a local folder - The albums and photos work normally
    - I tried republishing with a 3rd party cyperduck - same problem
    - I thought maybe it was therefore a ftp problem. So I logged in to my hostings file manager and check if the files are actually on the server -  but they are..
    - I tried republishing the entire site - same problem
    An example can be seen on the following - the third album is completely missing and if you go into the other albums, there will be random gaps where other photos are missing.
    http://www.gippmed.com/My_Albums/My_Albums.html
    Similar problem on this site, on the USA album, there is two photos missing towards the bottom:
    http://www.lukecainshooting.com/Luke_Cain/Photo_Gallery/Pages/USA.html
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi Cyclosaurus,
    Thank you for your reply. Sorry to bug you again but can I ask some further questions? Pls excuse my lack of knowledge on these things.
    In relation to your points:
    1) In the ftp publishing settings, public_html is acutal in where it says "site name", where it says "URL" I have http://www.gippmed.com. I was advised to put public_html in "site name" from my hosting. If I put anything else it publishes the entire site to a folder with that name on the server and is not viewable online?
    2) I have removed the spaces in the album page name and will reupload soon. In relation to the image file names, am I correct in saying that iweb is naming them from the captions? Do you really have to use one word captions or use underscores, it looks a little odd? I have read troubleshooting articles about iweb and spaces and it also recommends similar as you are, suggesting that all page names should have underscore instead of spaces. Problem is, if for example I change the page name "About Me" to "About_Me" iweb automatically changes it in the navigation menu and this looks silly to have undescores in the Nav Menu. Is there a way around this?
    Lastly, a new problem that I have never had before:
    Previously, iweb would remember what I had published and only publish new site changes. Now, every time I turn my computer off and on, I open iweb and it doesn't recognise any of the previous publishing, ie it republishes the entire site.
    Thank you again for your help

  • Publish using ftp

    once i publish to a folder, how do i publish it to my website using ftp? just upload the entire folder as it is and put the index.html file outside of the folder? or do i upload the folders contents into my home directory? i cant get it to work right.

    You can do either.
    If you upload the entire folder including the index.html file and the site folder, your site urls will be www.yourdomain.com/sitename/pagename.html.
    If you just upload the contents of the site folder directly without the enclosing folder and without the outside index.html file, your site urls will be www.yourdomain.com/pagename.html (there is an index.html file within the site folder as well).
    I do the former because outside of the site folder I have several other items and folders that iWeb doesn't touch that are essential to the running of my site, eg javascript resources. I can add to or change these safe in the knowledge that they won't get overwritten when iWeb republishes.

  • Delete site collection using Client object model

    Is it possible to delete a site collection using Client object model?
    -Prashant

    I don't think you can create or delete a site-collection using SharePoint Client Object Model. You'd need to leverage admin web services (
    http://Site/_vti_adm/Admin.asmx) (or) server-side object model (or) powershell for this task.

  • I keep getting error codes when attempting to publish using FTP...

    "The operation cannot be completed because one or more required items cannot be found. (Error code -43)." That pops up before I can enter my FTP password.
    The other one is not popping up right now, but when I finally was able to enter my FTP password, another error code pops up. It was -36. Can't remember the words.
    Please help me. I NEED(ed) to publish this website yesterday! Thank you!

    I got it to come up! The other error code says "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "ftp://[email protected]" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)"
    This is the on that pops up only after I enter the (correct) FTP password.

  • RENAME/COPY/DELETE a file using FTP Adapter in 11g using dynamic values

    Hi All
    We have a requirement to do the above for a client. I was able to find a post\blog that tells you to add the below properties in FTP adapter JCA file and it works but,
    <interaction-spec className="oracle.tip.adapter.ftp.outbound.FTPIoInteractionSpec">
    <property name="SourcePhysicalDirectory" value="foo1"/>
    <property name="SourceFileName" value="bar1"/>
    <property name="TargetIsRemote" value="false"/>
    <property name="TargetPhysicalDirectory" value="foo2"/>
    <property name="TargetFileName" value="bar2"/>
    <property name="Type" value="COPY"/>
    </interaction-spec>
    The problem is that how to assign these values dynamically (from xpath or bpel variables etc). Can somebody provide me with some pointers? Its very urgent!

    Use the below approach to set the directory and file names dynamically.
    In BPEL source mode, specify the bpelx:inputProperty. Set the values for these variables in bpel. These can also be accessed as bpel preference values.
    <invoke>
    <bpelx:inputProperty name="jca.ftp.SourceFileName" variable="SourceFileNameVar"/>
    <bpelx:inputProperty name="jca.ftp.TargetFileName" variable="TargetFileNameVar"/>
    </invoke>

  • Can't Publish changes using FTP

    Ok, here is the whole story! At first I published my site using mobile me but then realized that my URL was way too long and not what I wanted since I am making a business site and wanted www.businessname.com. So, I bought a domain from godaddy and then hosted my site using that account. NOW, when I try to publish changes or even republish the entire site to make changes, nothing happens! It will say that my site is now published but then when I click visit site, a message comes up saying that the mobileme page I am looking for can not be found???? But I am not using mobile me to publish anymore!!! Any idea what I need to do? Thanks!

    Okay, so when you purchased your domain name from GoDaddy did you also buy a hosting account from them?
    If you didn't do this, then you are not publishing using ftp at all. You are still publishing to MobileMe, but you simply need to direct your domain name to web.me.com using CNAME forwarding.
    If you did purchase hosting from GoDaddy too, then perhaps rather than using the built in iWeb ftp, you should publish to a local folder and upload to your server space using Cyberduck or Transmit which you can download for free.

  • IWeb Publish to FTP: Double Site Name

    My attempt to mount an iWeb site publishing via FTP to my commercial host server on my acquired domain name josephscriven.org works well EXCEPT when it is up on the Internet a redundant duplication creeps into the URL. After clicking on or entering josephscriven.org the website comes up beautifully but the URL is listed as http://josephscriven.org/Home/Home.html.
    Changing the "Home" to anything else does not help as then the new name is simply duplicated.
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks

    I ran into that as well. Even worse, the redirect that iWeb set up to send site visitors to the subdomain that it stored the actual site files in didn't work in some browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, which accounts for roughly 80% of site traffic on most of my sites.
    I just bought a Mac, so I set up a simple test site, just to help me get the feel of it. If you have access to your site via FTP. I had to use my PC for this, since I am thus far unfamiliar with any of the FTP programs available for a Mac, but I'm sure they will work well enough once I figure them out.
    Anyhow, if you access your site through FTP, you can move your site files and folders down one level, back to the command line for your domain, and everything should work fine, without the silly redirect.
    The only glitch I had in this is that the Index.html file that was used for the redirect that iWeb set up capitalized the first letter in the file name, whereas the index.html file used in the site itself was not capitalized. When I first did that, I would get a 404 upon trying to navigate back to the index (home) page of the site using the navigation menu. Changing the site index.html file to Index.html fixed that problem, as you can see in http://www.pinegrovealpacas.net/.

  • Iweb publishing via ftp

    I'm trying to publish using ftp on iweb and have an issue with where it puts files on my server. Because the name of my site is entered int he publish settings it publishes everything to that named folder. I would like to know if anyone else had this issue and if they got round it? I just want to publish straight to my httpdocs folder on my host server but I can't seem to work out how to do that right now.

    Thanks for the help.
    Have now got hte site up there but the way that iweb has created the pages is pretty poor to be honest. Have you had similar issues with no css styles, text fonts not applied. I mean the pages look nothing like what they did locally. Do you know of a decent xhtml editor that people use on macs so that I can play with the code a bit?
    Apologies for all the questions, moved to mac recently - great for everything except building websites so far. Maybe it will only work well with mobile me?

  • I have just uploaded my iWeb site to a FTP host and most of the site is ok however a lot of the text has gone very strange!  How can i get it to publish the same as I designed it?  Thanks in advance....

    Please help!  I have just uploaded my iweb site to a FTP Host and most of the site is ok however a lot of the text has gone wrong!  Many thanks...

    Maybe you could let me know which hosting service you are using so that I can add them to my list of those NOT recommended for iWeb users!
    I just dealt with one today who claimed the iWeb sites were incompatible and that the first line of code should be deleted from every HTML file before upload to their server.
    They didn't even offer the information that it would be a lot easier to modify the .htaccess file never mind offer to do it for a customer.
    Nobody should expect to pay for service like this and the answer is to dump them and go to a company that gives you some value and support for your money. If the ones on this page don't meet your requirements for cost and service...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
    ... search this forum for those recommended by other users. There's a long list of them.

  • My iDisk Storage says it's full on my Site Publishing page and won't let me publish but when I got to my account details page looking to buy more space it says I've only used 3MB out of 20GB. Why are they different? And why did it stop letting me publish?

    I've been publishing just fine for the past few days and all of the sudden, when I click 'Publish Site' now, the 'content rights' pop up shows up. But then it wants me to sign into MobileMe (to which I'm already signed in). When I click 'sign in' it takes me to System Preferences > MobileMe > Account. I click on iDisk and it says "20.4 GB total, 2.7 MB used, 20.4 GB available"
    (I'm not sure why my GB available is still the same even though I've used 2.7 MB.... it wouldn't really matter though if I was able to publish.)
    I went back to iWeb to my Site Publishing Settings page and at the bottom there's a bar labeled 'iDisk Storage' and it's completely blue (meaning used).
    I also went to my MobileMe account to 'Summary' and under 'Mail and iDisk Storage' it says '3 MB of 20 GB used'.
    I'm assuming that it's not letting me publish because it thinks that I have run out of iDisk storage but I could be wrong. I just renewed my MobileMe account in Feb so I'm all payed up.. that shouldn't be the problem. Do you know of any other reasons why it won't let me publish?
    I feel like something is wacky with my iDisk Storage either way.
    I really hope all of this stuff makes sense. I'm fairly new to Mac and I'm still not sure about all of the lingo.
    Thank you for any advice you can give! Any suggestions will be MUCH appreciated!!
    -Ashley

    Try the following:
    close iWeb.
    delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
    go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    reboot.
    launch iWeb and try again.
    If that doesn't help continue with:
    move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
    launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
    go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
    move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • How to publish to FTP site NOT mobile me???

    how do i publish the site to an FTP site that is hosting for me? i don't have mobile me and dont want it if i don't have to. please help. thanks!

    As you have posted this in the iWeb 08 forum I am assuming that you are using iWeb 08 which does not have a built in ftp to server option.
    In iWeb 08 you need to select the publish to a folder option and your site will be published to your Home Sites folder - there will be an index file, plus the Site folder of the same name that you named your site in iWeb.
    Next you need to download Cyberduck free from the internet - this is a dedicated ftp program that you use to upload your files to your server. Open Cyberduck and enter your host, username and password details to connect with your host and then upload both your Site folder and your index.html file to your server. Your Site folder needs to be placed in the public_html folder on your server or whichever folder your server requires you to upload to. The index file needs to sit outside this folder to point into it.

  • I'm having difficulty publishing via ftp to Machighway, I suspect this has to do with the fact I seperated my webpages into 3 sites in iWeb. Can any one tell me how to undo this in iWeb?

    I'm having difficulty publishing via ftp to Machighway, I suspect this has to do with the fact I seperated my webpages into 3 sites in iWeb. Can any one tell me how to undo this in iWeb?

    You'll have to describe in detail the workflow you're using to upload to Machighway and any messages/warnings that you get along the way.  Also what version of iWeb are you using and are you publishing just one of your sites?
