Delete song from iTunes 6 without using the mouse?

Hi. My iTunes was just updated from 4.7 to 6.0.2 by Apple during a repair.
I'm going crazy because the keyboard shortcuts aren't the same. Ugh! In iTunes 4.7 to delete a song I'd use CMD-Del followed by a quick Y (for yes). Now it's like being pestered by a little kid: do you really want to delete this? [makes you use the mouse to click delete] do you want to remove it from iTunes or keep it? [makes you use the mouse to click remove].
Grrrr... why would I click delete it if I didn't want to delete it and why can't I just OK it with the keyboard? This is extremely annoying.
Does anyone know how to delete stuff from iTunes with no more than 2 keyboard commands and no mouse action?

Yeah. I found that list - lots of changes who knows why. And what's with all those Option combos? Yours was the undocumented one that I direly needed. I'm filing this new phenomenon away for future reference: try the first letter of whatever new dialog Apple comes up with.
I'd enabled all the Universal Access features and everything trying to figure out how to avoid the mouse clicking. I was ready to downgrade to 4.7. There was no way I was going to mouse click twice to delete things.
Thanks again.

  • How do I delete songs from Itunes without losing them in my IPOD?

How do I delete songs from Itunes without losing them in my IPOD? I don't want 11gb of music stored on my computer when I already have it in my Ipod. Anyone have some info?

You can Transfer music manually, then delete the files from the PC without having it sync to the iPod.
    HOWEVER.....
Deleting songs off of iTunes or your computer is a very bad idea unless you have created one or more backup files of all your songs.
Using the iPod as the sole repository of any of your songs is a very risky practice. When (not ‘if’) you need to restore the iPod, return the iPod for service, or it's song files are somehow lost or damaged, you will be re-ripping all your CDs back into iTunes and re-purchasing all your iTMS songs. Restoring the iPod is a common ‘fix’ to many small issues that arise.
If you cannot store your songs on a PC or within iTunes, then you will need to have some storage medium in use (an external hard drive, DVDs or CDs). You should also consider a secondary backup medium for additional safety. Whether you keep your music in iTunes or on an external source – Multiple copies of your music files are a must!
The iPod is really designed to be playback device - not a primary storage device (although it can be used as such), and certainly not as the only storage medium for all your music.
Always backup your PC files: both music and data. Backup as frequently as possible. The usual ‘metric’ is to determine just how much work (hours, days, weeks) or money spent you are willing to repeat by extending out your time between backups. Your choice, your potential headache &/or loss.
Many data-savvy folks have more than one backup and create incremental backups every time they add to or change their Library. Depending on the work I am doing, I may perform several backups during the same day. As they are incremental, and placed on my Backup ExHD – it is a very quick operation to perform several times a day, when needed.
If you are heavily invested in your Library data (Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings, Last Played, Date Added, etc.), then:
it is critical that you also make multiple backups of your ‘iTunes Library.itl’ file.
iTMS REMINDER: While you can always take the time to re-rip the CDs you own to restore your iTunes music, if you lose your iTMS purchased music and have no backups, you will have to re-purchase them. Few exceptions are made to this rule – at least none that I am aware of.

  • How do I Delete songs from Itunes & Computer at the same time?

I would like to have a song deleted from my computer (sent to recycling bin) everytime I delete the song from ITUNES. How can I do this? When I used MediaMonkey it automaticly did it for me. Thanks for your help.
    gateway   Windows XP

If you are using iTunes to manage your music and the songs are in the iTunes Music folder then iTunes will give you the option when deleting to remove the songs from the library and send them to the Trash. However if you are keeping the songs in another folder iTunes will only delete them from the library, if you want to completely remove them you have to go to the folder yourself.

  • I used my friends itunes account to get some of her music, but now I want to delete some from my phome, but I don't know how, and I can only delete songs from itunes but all the songs are on her's so I can't. What do I do?!!!?

    Please help me with this!?

That is what you get when you pirate music.
You are probably going to have reset your iPhone to factory default which wipe out evrything. After that restore from the backup on your computer.

    A Espinoza,
The iTunes Media folder is set in Preferences > Advanced, and is the key to most iTunes folder organizational activities.  So I doubt that the automatic deletion will work for files that are somewhere else within the folder structure.
However, I have not experimented with that issue in quite a while, so you are welcome to give it a try in iTunes 11.

I have seen this page, but it seems that this involves deleting songs from my iTunes library in order to remove them from iTunes Match. I want to keep them in my iTunes library, but not in iTunes match (I am over my limit for songs in iTunes Match, and would like to decide which songs to keep in iTunes Match).

Your MBP will support a 3T HDD provided it is formatted correctly and has sufficient power.  Most large HDDs require an outboard power source.
When you delete songs from iTunes you will get a message if you want to send it to trash.  If you send it to trash, space will be freed up only when you empty trash.  An individual song does not consume much space so if your HDD is becoming full, more drastic action s should be considered, such as moving an entire file to an external HDD.
    Ciao.

  • Removing songs from itunes without removing them from ipod

Is it possible to remove songs from iTunes without removing them from iPod? When I attempt to delete songs from iTunes I get a warning that they'll be deleted from iPod as well. I've got Manually manage music and videos checked under Options in the Summary window.

You can delete songs from your iTunes/computer hard drive after transferring them to the iPod, and for this you need to set your iPod to manage the iPod content manually.
However, this is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See these about backing up media.
How to back up your media in iTunes.
    Buegie's complete back up strategy.
To move music from iPod to computer, check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

  • I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?

I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?
Let me explain a little more. I had downloaded a lot of free books in the past as a trial when iBooks was first released and since then I have decided I no longer want them, because of this I hid them from the purchased section of the iBooks store. The 5 books left are ones I decided to keep as seen in the following picture.
This is how it appears in iBooks on my mac. There are 4 books downloaded and 1 book that I have decided not to download at this time. I would still like to keep this book available in the cloud incase I want to download it again in the future. You’ll notice that hide iCloud books is not selected, if I wanted to hide the book that I have chosen to keep in the cloud, but have not downloaded yet I could.
This is exactly how I think this feature should work. If you have hidden a book from your purchases it should not show up in the mac Ibooks app. (I am aware you can never actually delete a purchase, just hide them and that hidden purchases can be restored to your account from within the account management section of the iBooks store).
The iOS app is working differently for me. Here is a picture of the purchased tab on the iBooks store in iOS Ibooks. Again notice that pictures of Lilly is still yet to be downloaded. This is how I expected it to look.
If we visit the front page of iOS iBooks the view is very different from what I expected. Here we can see the 4 books I wanted to keep on my device and have downloaded. We can also see the 1 book I wanted to keep, but did not want to store locally on the device and left in iCloud (Pictures of Lilly). However we can also see all the books I had hidden from the purchased section of my iTunes account and which I believe should no-longer be visible, Dracula, frankenstein etc…
I am aware of the hide iCloud books button within the iOS app, but I did not need to use this to hide the books I had removed from the my purchased section of the iBooks store on the mac, why are they still appearing in iOS?
I’m still not sure if this is a software glitch or not. This article suggests to me that books can be hidden, but I had already completed these steps.
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201322
A browse of google also suggests people may have been able to hide past purchases from the front page of iBooks on iOS in the past.
In case there was an issue with syncing I tried logging in and out of my iTunes account via settings in iOS. Force closing the app, disabling automatic downloads and removing my device from iTunes in the cloud. Syncing with iTunes on the mac did not correct the issue either.
Interestingly I have the same issue on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3 as I do on my iPad mini suggesting that this might be an issue either with my account or with iOS iBooks software in general.
If there is a way to remove the already hidden iBooks in your account from the front page of iBooks on iOS without using the hide iCloud downloads button? Please help community!

My apologies for the lack of photos, here is my post again with photos.

  • Unless I repair my hard drive every other day I am unable to delete songs from iTunes or email messages from Postbox. I've only had an iMac for a few weeks, is this normal?

Unless I repair my hard drive every other day I am unable to delete songs from iTunes or email messages from Postbox. I've only had an iMac for a few weeks, is this normal?

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if it frightens you, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • How to dismiss the spelling dialogue without using the mouse

I'd appreciate the right tip from anyone on how to dismiss the spelling dialogue in Mail without using the mouse. (I'm one of those guys who likes to use the keyboard as much as possible.) Here's the scenario:
I open a new message in Mail, type my text, press Cmd-Shift-D, then (because I have it set to check spelling when I "click send") up pops the spelling dialogue. That's fine as far as it goes, but many times I don't need any corrections because either I don't care or because the words are fine but just not recognized by Mail. So until now what I do is use the mouse to click on the far left one of the three round buttons in the upper left corner of the dialogue. I would like not to have to use the mouse, but pressing Esc or any other keys I try doesn't work to make it go away.
    Your advice is welcome! Thanks.

Well, that window is actually a floating window, which means that it is meant to hang around. Notice that if you move Mail to the background (without hiding it), the spelling window hides itself, then shows itself again when you bring Mail back to the front. Floating windows are kind of in their own little world, meant to float above windows while not interfering with keystrokes sent to the frontmost window.
I would argue that it shouldn't be a floater, because nobody's going to want it around once they're done checking spelling. But that's kind of a matter of opinion, and obviously Mail's designers thought differently.
BTW, in the course of writing this, I discovered something -- if you click in the spelling window, so that you could type in the field there, Command-W will actually close the floater. But, of course, that still requires a click in the window with the mouse.
