Delete songs without warning !!!

I've just bought a new nano and am new to itunes. When i sync new tunes it seems to delete part of (or at times all of) my tunes on my ipod. Why is this and what can I do to stop this happening ?
Help much appreciated.

As you have noted the synch function makes the iPod look like what's on your computer. If you wish to bypass this synchronization you can manage the contents of your iPod manually by selecting that mode in the iPod prefs from iTunes when the iPod is connected. Also note that when you manually manage your music you have to manually eject your iPod before you disconnect it from the computer.
The iTunes+iPod concept is that your complete media library is stored on your computer where it's easy to mantain it, expand it, and keep it secure by backing it up.
I would suggest that you NOT load songs on your iPod and then delete them from your computer without having backups. Doing so is just asking to lose a good portion of your music. Please, please store your music on your computer or some external drive and keep it backed up. Enjoy your new iPod.

  • How can you delete songs off the ipod without deleting songs off your itunes library?

How can you delete songs off the ipod without deleting songs off your itunes library?  My son's ipod automatically synced all the songs in my library to his ipod which he now wants to get rid of.  Is there a way to delete them all without me having to erase my library?

Do not select the songs to sync, then sync.

I've copied my itunes library onto an external hard drive.  Is there any way I can do this and delete songs from my PC without also deleting from the external drive? Already lost two songs!!!  I just want a back up - using a work PC and don't want others accessing my songs.  Hope someone can help.  Thanks!

I see. To get a better idea of what is being stored where please download and run the script iTunesInfo which should output something like this:
I'm interested in the block of 4 results starting ITL location. If your profile name shows up somewhere replace it with <Name>.  It is also worth checking under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to see where iTunes thinks your media is supposed to go. My script estimates the setting based on the location of the first media file it can actually find.

  • How do I delete songs from Itunes without losing them in my IPOD?

How do I delete songs from Itunes without losing them in my IPOD? I don't want 11gb of music stored on my computer when I already have it in my Ipod. Anyone have some info?

You can Transfer music manually, then delete the files from the PC without having it sync to the iPod.
    HOWEVER.....
Deleting songs off of iTunes or your computer is a very bad idea unless you have created one or more backup files of all your songs.
Using the iPod as the sole repository of any of your songs is a very risky practice. When (not ‘if’) you need to restore the iPod, return the iPod for service, or it's song files are somehow lost or damaged, you will be re-ripping all your CDs back into iTunes and re-purchasing all your iTMS songs. Restoring the iPod is a common ‘fix’ to many small issues that arise.
If you cannot store your songs on a PC or within iTunes, then you will need to have some storage medium in use (an external hard drive, DVDs or CDs). You should also consider a secondary backup medium for additional safety. Whether you keep your music in iTunes or on an external source – Multiple copies of your music files are a must!
The iPod is really designed to be playback device - not a primary storage device (although it can be used as such), and certainly not as the only storage medium for all your music.
Always backup your PC files: both music and data. Backup as frequently as possible. The usual ‘metric’ is to determine just how much work (hours, days, weeks) or money spent you are willing to repeat by extending out your time between backups. Your choice, your potential headache &/or loss.
Many data-savvy folks have more than one backup and create incremental backups every time they add to or change their Library. Depending on the work I am doing, I may perform several backups during the same day. As they are incremental, and placed on my Backup ExHD – it is a very quick operation to perform several times a day, when needed.
If you are heavily invested in your Library data (Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings, Last Played, Date Added, etc.), then:
it is critical that you also make multiple backups of your ‘iTunes Library.itl’ file.
iTMS REMINDER: While you can always take the time to re-rip the CDs you own to restore your iTunes music, if you lose your iTMS purchased music and have no backups, you will have to re-purchase them. Few exceptions are made to this rule – at least none that I am aware of.

  • How can I delete songs stored in the Cloud but without deleting them from my mac?

How can I delete songs stored in the Cloud but without deleting them from my mac?

You can do it, but you need another library signed in to iTunes match. That second library shouldn't have any local files stored.
Delete the entry from that second library and it will ask you to confirm that you want to remove the file from the cloud. Confirm that you do.
Now, as long as you don't delete the file from your main library it will have an iCloud status of "removed" and won't be in the cloud or try add it again.
However, if you sign out of match on that computer and then sign in again it will then re-add it to the cloud, so this isn't a method to use if you tend to turn match on and off much.
I have had the Beatles Mono albums in my main library, but not in the cloud, for a while now without any problems.

  • Is there a way to delete songs from an ipod without having to connect to iTunes?

is there a way to delete songs from an ipod without having to connect to iTunes?

Does delete (from the iPhone) really delete the songs from the iPhone, or just hide the songs?
I normally list "By artist".  I can delete an album (by swiping on the album sidways and then pressing delete), and the album (and all the songs) don't appear in the music player on the iPhone; But when I look at music in iTunes for the iPhone, the songs are still there.
    I'm confused.

  • Icloud panel deleted my photos without warning

    My icloud panel stopped syncing.
I logged out and get the message where my photos are located.
    So far so good.
Then I logged in again and all the photos were deleted from that location without warning!
How can I retrieve them back?
The software should have warned me!
I feel really angry and frustrated.

    I appreciate your help.
I did not lose any data in my profile (C:\Users).  I lost my data on my second disk that had data on it (f:\VirtualMachines).  This disk had lots of other data on it that was not part of my User profile.
When I put in the drive and rebooted, RapidDrive Advanced somehow became activated without any warning screen and simply deleted all the data on F:\ and moved my user profile from C:\Users to F:\Users.  I am in the process of moving the data back from F:\Users to C:\Users fine, and I have this data backed up
However, the previous data on F:\ (virtual machines and other files) appears to have been lost.  It is not in the Recycle Bin, and multiple attempts to use Undelete software have so far failed.
Does RapidDrive Advanced delete and recreate the partition on the second drive, does it format, or does it do a simple delete?  I'm trying to find a way to recover those files

  • What will happen to the organization of library if I removed the songs from windows explorer? Will iTunes automatically updated without all the deleted songs, or it will indicate 'missing location'? Any fast ways to clear this 'missing location' songs?

What will happen to the organization of library if I removed the songs from windows explorer?
Background: I found it easier to identify duplicated songs in windows explorer as the songs will be renamed .... 1.mp3, thus enabling me to remove the duplicated songs; unlike in iTunes where I know the trick of showing duplicate songs, but you don't know which one is the one with 1 at the end of the file name.
Will iTunes automatically update the library without all the deleted songs, or will it indicate 'missing location' songs? Any fast ways to clear this 'missing location' songs by highlighting them all and delete all at one go?
    Thanks.

One way is to use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to check for dead tracks on start up.
Another option is with a set of Lost & Found playlists.
    Lost & Found
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist. Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You can delete them all with a Ctrl-A to select them and Shift-Delete to remove them.
You can then delete the Lost & Found playlists.

My settings are , handle songs manually.
    Best regards PelleRPG

I did this with about 100 songs, and the problem is everytime I connect my iphone with itunes, It will automatically sync back every single song I did delete on the phone by swiping.
I did search on google and found out that serveral people has this problem. The songs wont delete from itunes library.
So why do they even make this function if it only deletes the songs for a short time?

  • Remove song without deleting it from a playlist

Is there any way I can remove a song (without deleting it) and leaving it in a playlist?
My music is not managed by iTunes (i.e. all my mp3s are stored not in the iTunes folder) and I have to refresh it by removing all songs before re-importing them. However, I have quite a few playlists I'd like to keep the various songs in.

Is there any way I can remove a song (without deleting it) and leaving it in a playlist?
    No.
My music is not managed by iTunes (i.e. all my mp3s are stored not in the iTunes folder
Ok. Why are you removing it from iTunes?
You can have songs your music where you want and still have it in iTunes.

  • How do you delete songs on your iPhone without using iTunes on your computer? Swiping to the left or right won't work on mine.

I've tried deleting my songs but it didn't work. It worked last time. Sliding it wont work anymore. I've spent hours trying to figure out how to delete songs.

Swiping left to right or right to left should work if you're in the right place.
For example, try it in Music > Songs (button in lower right).

  • How to synchronize iPod without deleting songs not in library?

    hello all,
I have a problem. I would like to synchronize my iPod to iTunes but I have some songs on my my iPod that are not present in library (Cd's that I have deleted from my library etc.) I am assuming that if I synchronize the two, then iTunes will delete any songs on the iPod that aren't present in the library. So I ask you, how do I get iTunes to only add songs present in the library and not delete songs on the iPod?
    Regards,
    Glen

Did you set your ipod to automatically synchronize?
This is from the 'Keyboard Shortcuts' in the Help menu:
    iPod shortcuts
Prevent iPod from automatically updating when you connect it to your computer
Command-Option as you connect the iPod to your computer (hold the keys down until the iPod appears in the iTunes Source list)
Next, set your iPod to manually update or update selected playlists in the preferences.

  • Time Machine BUG: Without warning, one or more of your disks stops being backed up...

    Hi all
Just discovered an interesting and potentially dangerous bug in TM running 10.7.4 (like many others I've downgraded from 10.7.5 because of the Spotlight/TM problems noted in this forum).
Here's the bug: You set up TM and specify certain items -- files, folders or volumes -- to be excluded in the "Options" pane of TM Preferences. If you exclude a volume (e.g. a cloned backup volume), that volume must of course be mounted in order for it to be added to the "Exclude" list. But if you subsequently umount the excluded volume, TM SIMPLY REPLACES IT WITH SOME OTHER MOUNTED VOLUME without warning. The result: unknown to you, one of your disks, that you think is being backed up, isn't. You can actually see this happen if you unmount the disk you want to exclude while your exclusions list is open.
This bug is 100% reliable. Tried permissions repair, clear caches, verify backups, reset TM by deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist and re-entering excluded items -- same result.
Question: Have others found this bug? Has anyone found a way of adding a volume to the TM exclusions list so that it "sticks" regardless of whether or not the volume is mounted??
The only workaround I can see: Never unmount any disks in your exclusions list -- if you do, something else will be excluded instead. If like me you want easy access to the disks you work with but not others (e.g. backup clones), one option is to make the excluded disk mounted-but-not-visible.
Appreciate others comments before reporting to Apple in case there's something weird in my setup (don't think there is).
Pondini: Checked your great site, couldn't see this noted - apologies if I missed it.
    Ta much.

For Windows 7 I corrected the problem using the steps below.  Since Windows 8 is setup for touch screen you will need to find these controls.
Corrective Action.  Note that several of these steps require the computer to process the action and may take 20 minutes to complete, depending on the configuration.

I want to delete songs off of my computr because it's taking up unnecessary space, but how can I do this without them being removed from my iPhone when I sync it next?

As given, removing from the library causes the songs to be removed during sync. So the space taken up is neccessary... What would you do if your iPhone where lost, stolen, damaged or needed to be restored?
If you ned more room for storage buy a bigger drive. In fact buy two, one to use as a backup for your library and all your other important files.
