Delete Spools created by one background job

Hi ,
I have a background job which runs every now and then and it creates spools. My requirement is to delete all spools created by this one job only in regular intervals via another program.
Regards,
Arun.

Hi J@Y,
the spools that my background job is creating should stay in the system for a while for users to go and see it. After a specific interval, say every 30 minutes, i want all the spools created by that one job till that time to be deleted
regards,
Arun.

  • A background job creating/instantiating another background job

    Hi,
Is there any possibility in SAP, that, a background job can create/instantiate another background job ?
I have one suce requirement, and not sure if this is possible. Any inputs..
    -DK

    yes you can
when you create a job using SM36,there is a option for start condition
in that there is an option for After Job
just give the job name and when that job completes, this job will trigger off

  • Problem in getting spool number of a background job.

    Hi all,
In a Z program I am calling a standard program to run as background job. I need to get the report o/p of the standard program. For this I need the spool no of the background job. Now I am querying on table tbtcp by giving jobname. Program name and run date and getting the spool no. but the cache is that the table is not getting updated with the spool no as soon as the job finishes. It is taking some time to update the table ( The time depends on the no of background jobs scheduled. ). So of we query on the table immediately after the background job finishes we are getting spool no as 0. so I am unable to read the spool into Internal tables. Even the table tsp01 is also behaving in the same way. ( it is taking time to update ) .
Any pointers to this will be appreciated .

This is some prototype that I put together from separate pieces, so it looks funky, but might be helpful. The first step is to SUBMIT the program with EXPORTING LIST TO MEMORY. The next FM reads the list from memory and the next one (optional) converts it to a text format. You might want to search for other FMs in SE37 by 'LIST*'.
DATA list_tab TYPE TABLE OF abaplist.
    SUBMIT RPR_TRIP_HEADER_DATA

  • Scheduling one background job inside another

    Hi All,
Is it possible to Scheduling one background job inside another.? i.e In my Z program I am calling job_open, job_submit, job_close and to execute one standard report in background. And after that I am executing my Z program itself  from SE38 as Program->Execute->Background->Execute Immediately. Is this logically correct? I am asking this because I am not getting the desired result
    Thanks & Regards,

    HI,
Check the job steps in SM36.
First schedule the Standard job and in the job steps schedule the z report.

  • Spool file of a background job

    Hello Friends,
In an SAP system, there is a background job which creates a spool file.
If there is no printer configuration done on the SAP server, how to find the location of this file in the filesystem?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kunal Patel.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
I was able to locate the file in the filesystem.
Actually I changed a setting in the printer LOCL so that the spool is stored in Global directory.
But now there is a new problem.
The spool file in the filesystem is in a very different format as below:

  • WHICH TABLE STORES SPOOL REQUEST GENERATED BY BACKGROUND JOB ?

Background job is generating multiple request.
i am not able to find the table which stores all the spool request for a particular background job.

i know the table for spool request :  TSP01
But how should i link it to background job name ?
i want the link between background job name and spool request generated by it......
TBTCPV is the view but it stores only one spool request.....rather than multiple spoolreq generated by background job..

  • Is it possible to have Multiple Spool requests in one batch job overview?

    Hi,
While running one of my z program in back ground, there are two spools generated (one by write statement and one by OPEN_FORM statement and both the spools are available in SP01 Transaction), but when i see the job overview in transaction SM37, I only see one spool request (that of the last spool request). Can any body in the group please tell me is it possible to see multiple spool requests in the job overview of one Abap program and if yes, how?
    Thank you.
    Abinash

    Hi Jayanthi,
Thank you for the link. But probably that discussion was also an unsolved one.
Anyway, does any one in the group think that display of multiple spools per one step job is dependent on client / SAP Server setting? Because as evident from the chain of mails in the link provided by Jayanthi, some people say that they see multiple spool requests for one program in batch mode job overview (SM37)? If yes, can some body tell me the required configuration?

  • Spool not generated in BAckground Job

    Hi,
I am trying to schedule RSNAST00 in a background job. My problem is that when the job gets finished i cannot see a spool for the output, any pointers to this issue will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sharadendu

Go to transaction SM37 and check job log.
It is possible that something is going wrong in your program. I would suggest you to debugg background job.
To debugg just select job in SM37 and in command window(Where we type T codes) type JDBG and press enter. This will open debugger. Press F7 for approx 4-5 times. Now your program will be opened in debugg and you check why spool is not generated.
let me know ig this helps.

  • Merge Excel cells when creating file for Background job

    Hi Experts
I need to create an Excel document and within the excel sheet merge some cells, I can get that done via OLE.
My problem though comes in with... the Report needs to be scheduled as a background job and therefore OLE does not work!!!
Does any of you have another solution to merge cells while running in background??
    Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
    Vic

    Hi Vic,
You can use the xml transformations for formatting excel. For my case I needed multiple sheets including glossary sheet to be mailed in a particular format , which was achieved by using transformations.
           CALL TRANSFORMATION z_xls_xxx
                SOURCE table = i_tmp_b[]
                RESULT XML wa_xmlstr.
            TRY.
                cl_bcs_convert=>string_to_solix(
                   EXPORTING
                     iv_string   = wa_xmlstr
iv_codepage = '4103'  "suitable for MS Excel, leave empty
                     iv_add_bom  = 'X'     "for other doc types
                   IMPORTING
                     et_solix  = l_bin
                     ev_size   = l_size ).
              CATCH cx_bcs.
                MESSAGE e445(so).
            ENDTRY.

  • Spool not generated for background job

    Hi all!
I have a Zprogram that does some validation and submits the data to transaction ME59 using SUBMIT statement. The program is running fine in foreground. When it is scheduled for background, the spool is not getting generated. I know that if a program contains SUBMIT statement, the spool will not be generated when run in background. But is there a way to make it work? The client requires the exact output that we get in foreground.

    Hi,
All spool requests will be stored in TSP01 table
    TSP01 - Spool Requests
field name for Spool request number is RQIDENT
    Hi,
Take a look at OSS Note 422136 which states:
"2. You can only store one spool request even if a step generates several spool requests during processing. The application is responsible for a "spool overview" in this case. If a step generates several spool requests during processing, only one request can be stored. In this case, the application report should issue the number with a message when writing a spool request so that it is then displayed in the job log."
Also take a look at OSS Note 519059 which further supports the case that you must capture the individual spool numbers as they are being created (i.e. within the job step's program). The note contains the following:
8] Question: How are the spool requests assigned?
Answer: The step information is stored in table TBTCP. This has space for exactly one spool request (field LISTIDENT). If a step generates several spool requests during the processing, only one can be stored. In this case the application is responsible for a "spool overview

  • Not generating a spool output in the background job

    Hi Team,
I have an alv report and If I schedule the program using SM36 transaction it is not generating the spool ouput.
If I run the same program in background mode when we use se38 and select execute in background in program menu and it works successfully and generates alv grid list in the spool output.
But, user wants to schedule the job in sm36 and check the same output in spool. Please advise why it is not generating.
Note:I am using the cl_salv_table=>factory method to generate the output.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sunil Kumar.

This is not really an ABAP question and you might want to ask your Basis admin for assistance. But I believe that spool will not be generated if you don't specify print parameters for a step. When you define the step in SM36, make sure to specify the print parameters.

  • Stucked in one background job

    Dear all,
I am trying to change one HR workflow for travel request, ii's having two level of approval, I am trying to execute the workflow,  it's working fine till all the approvals but after all approvals there is one activity to create attandance of the employee for the perticular traveling  days and it is a background task activity.
My workflow is getting stucked over here it's showing in process like it's not even giving any error but it's just showing IN PROCESS as status in the log.
I tried all the possibility for this task assigned to the perticular activity,  it is a customized task and also I have tried to execute the method and function modules assigned  to the object BUS2089 which are customized method and function module and are working fine but this activity is not working at runtime.
Can anybody please help me for the same?

    Hi,
If you are using any enque deque functionality in that activity then it is not going to work, as I was having the same for attandance updation.
You can also check wheather your task is general task or not, if your task is for user decision and it is not the general task then make it as general task.
If still you are facing the problem then plz send brief notes about the activity and method you are using.

  • What is the spool, what is its role in background job scheduling

    Hi,
I want to know what is meant by Spool request and spool number generated.
    Tell about transaction SP01.
How it is linked to Background job scheduling.
    thanks.
    sam.

    Hi,
    Refer this link.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/inf?rid=/library/uuid/7a5f4061-0a01-0010-c9bc-a4e4cb100438
    About SP01.
Printing does not work in SAP. There is a printer definition for your local printer, but it does not work. Presuming that you use the program SAPLPD on your computer.
Boot your computer and start only the SAPLogon and the SAPLpd program.
Delete all of your old print jobs in the SAP system (Transaction SP01).Generate only one new print job.
Check that there is enough resource in your computer. Check the free memory (Win 3.1x) and the free disk space (The lists are temporarily saved on your disk).
Open the SAPLPD and read the print log in the window. The printer definition must correspond with the parameters shown here.
Check that the standard printer is on the same lpt (Win 3.1: Control panel, Printer) as defined for the printer (usually lpt1).
In Transaction SP01 read the protocol of your print job. Do not generate new print jobs! Wait till the SAP system changes the status of the print job.
If you can not find the print job in SP01 anymore, then the print job was successfully printed out. If it didn't come out on your printer and the SAPLpd didn't indicate an incoming print job, then the connection was realised with another PC. Then SAP printer definition you used, does not correspond with your computer.
    Scheduling Background Jobs:
    1.        Background jobs are scheduled by Basis administrators using transaction SM36.
    2.        To run a report in a background, a job needs to be created with a step using the report name
and a variant for selection parameters. It is recommended to create a separate variant for each
scheduled job to produce results for specific dates (e.g. previous month) or organizational units (e.g.
    company codes).
    3.        While defining the step, the spool parameters needs to be specified
(Step-> Print Specifications->Properties) to secure the output of the report and help authorized users
to find the spool request. The following parameters needs to be maintained:
    a.        Time of printing: set to u201CSend to SAP spooler Only for nowu201D
    b.        Name u2013 abbreviated name to identify the job output
    c.        Title u2013 free form description for the report output
    d.        Authorization u2013 a value defined by Security in user profiles to allow those users to access
this spool request (authorization object  S_SPO_ACT, value SPOAUTH).  Only users with matching
authorization value in their profiles will be able to see the output.
    e.        Department u2013 set to appropriate department/functional area name. This field can be used in
    a search later.
    f.        Retention period u2013 set to u201CDo not deleteu201D if the report output needs to be retained for more
than 8 days. Once the archiving/document repository solution is in place the spool requests could
be automatically moved to the archive/repository. Storage Mode parameter on the same screen
could be used to immediately send the output to archive instead of creating a spool request.
    Configuring user access:
    1.        To access a report output created by a background job, a user must have at
least access to SP01 (Spool requests) transaction without restriction on the user
name (however by itself it will not let the user to see all spool requests). To have
that access the user must have S_ADMI_FCD authorization object in the profile with
SPOR (or SP01) value of S_ADMI_FCD parameter (maintained by Security).
    2.        To access a particular jobu2019s output in the spool, the user must have
S_SPO_ACT object in the profile with SPOAUTH parameter matching the value used
in the Print Specifications of the job (see p. 3.d above).
    3.        Levels of access to the spool (display, print once, reprint, download, etc) are
controlled by SPOACTION parameter of S_SPO_ACT. The user must have at least
    BASE access (display).
    On-line reports:
    1.        Exactly the same configuration can be maintained for any output produced
from R/3. If a user clicks u201CParametersu201D button on a SAP Printer selection dialog, it
allows to specify all the parameters as described in p. 3 of
u201CScheduling background jobsu201D section. Thus any output created by an online report
can be saved and accessed by any user authorized to access that spool request
(access restriction provided by the Authorization field of the spool request
    attributes, see p. 3.d of u201CScheduling background jobsu201D section).
    Access to reportu2019s output:
    1.        A user that had proper access (see Configuring user access above) can
    retrieve a job/report output through transaction SP01.
    2.        The selection screen can be configured by clicking u201CFurther selection
criteriau2026u201D button (e.g. to bring u201CSpool request name (suffix 2)u201D field or hide other
    fields).
    3.        The following fields can be used to search for a specific output (Note that
Created By must be blank when searching for scheduled jobu2019s outputs)
    a.        Spool request name (suffix 2) u2013 corresponds to a spool name in p. 3.b in
    u201CScheduling background jobsu201D section above).
    b.        Date created u2013 to find an output of a job that ran within a certain date range.
    c.        Title u2013 corresponds to spool Title in p. 3.c in u201CScheduling background jobsu201D
    section above).
    d.        Department - corresponds to spool Department in p. 3.e in u201CScheduling
    background jobsu201D section above).
    4.        Upon entering selection criteria, the user clicks the Execute button   to
retrieve the list of matching spool requests.
    5.        From the spool list the user can use several function such as view the
content of a spool request, print the spool request, view attributed of the spool
request, etc. (some functions may need special authorization, see p.3 in
    Configuring user access)
    a.        Click the Print button   to print the spool request with the default attributes
(usually defined with the job definition). It will print it on a printer that was
specified when a job was created.
    b.        Click the u201CPrint with changed attributedu201D button   to print the spool request
with the different attributes (e.g. changing the printer name).
    c.        Click the u201CDisplay contentsu201D button   to preview the spool request contents. A
Print    and Download   functions are available from the preview mode.
Exporting the Contents of a Spool Request
    Use
You want to export the contents of a spool request as a text file to the SAP GUI working directory or to a directory of your choice. The content of the spool request is downloaded as plain text without, for example, graphics, images, or specific fonts.
The following procedures are irrelevant for the PDF-based form printing integrated as of SAP Web Application Server 6.40, since the print data can be opened and stored as a PDF. See also Displaying and Printing PDF-Based Forms.
    Procedure
Exporting to the SAP GUI Working Directory:
Choose Spool Request ® Forward® Export as Text.
The entire text is stored in your SAP GUI working directory in ASCII format.
A file of this type is named using the following pattern:
    .txt
    Example: ABC0000004327.txt
You require appropriate authorization for this function.
Exporting to a Directory of Your Choice:
With this method of exporting a spool request, the content of the spool request is first displayed and you then download the screen list as a text file to the directory of your choice.
           1.      Select the spool request to be exported and choose  Display Contents.
           2.      In the case of SAPScript/Smart Forms documents, activate list display by choosing Goto.
           3.      Choose System ® List ® Save ® Local File.
           4.      Choose one of the available formats and confirm your choice.
           5.      Choose a directory and save the spool request.
By default, only the first 10 pages of a spool request are saved in a file. You can increase the number of pages to be saved by choosing Goto ® Display Requests ® Settings and making the desired entries in the Display Area group box.
