Delete subfolders and files

On Mac OS X Lion i'm  setting the permission for a share point to a user. under "Write" submenu when i uncheck the two checkboxes "Delete" and "Delete Subfolders and file" so that the user won't be able to delete data from the server. the issue is that with this setting the user won't be able to create folders and subfolders and also rename.
"Inheritance" boxes are all checked.
Any suggestions on how to fix that will bve greatly appreciated.
thanks.

Do you mean the SMSAdminUI.log file from E:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole\AdminUILog ? If so the file hasn't been modified since 3/14. It has some items highlited in red that I have listed below.  That is the only AdminUI.log

So you want to move the iPhoto Library?
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Does MacOS recognize Windows directory structure? Can I move an entire folder (consisting of subfolders and files) from Windows to Mac?

Can I move an entire folder (consisting of subfolders and files) from Windows to Mac?

    Mustafafromnc,
if you’re talking about a USB drive, then it will probably have an exFAT filesystem. Modern versions of OS X can read from and write to exFAT filesystems without problems, so you would be able to move Windows folders, subfolders, and files from an exFAT filesystem to an OS X filesystem.

  • How to delete Folders and Files older than 10 day ?

If I use this below command, I am able to delete only the files and files in sub-folders older than 10 day,
    forfiles /p "D:\Testing\Sample" /s /d -10 /c "cmd /c del /s /q @file"
    Please help...
    Thanks

    Hello Raman459,
    please see this blog entry:
    http://elderec.org/2012/02/scripting-delete-files-and-folders-older-than-x-days/
Your command is ok for files, for folders you need to do another command:
     forfiles -p "D:\Testing\Sample" -d -10 -c "cmd /c IF @isdir == TRUE rd /S /Q @path"

  • Deleted folders and files

How do I retrieve imported Windows Live Mail storage folders and files deleted during Windows Refresh?

    Hi Torsten,
I've actually seen that article before and followed some of the instructions but I think SCCM 2012 SP1 introduced the capability for SCCM to automatically delete files so you don't need to run the script (which I couldn't use anyways since I'm not running
    on Windows Server 2012).
I've reviewed the wsyncmgr.log file and I can see it showing that it is removing some items so I know the automatic clean up is working.
My issue is that I've got folders and files on my distribution drive that have updates in them that are listed as not downloaded or deployed in SCCM. For example, a while back (late 2012) I download and deployed a lot of the "Critical
Updates" and put them into an update group and a deployment package.  But I've since deleted both this update group and deployment package from SCCM but the folder used by the deployment package and it's contents are still on the drive.
These are the things I'm trying to clean up.
Is it safe to just delete this folder and it's contents from the drive?
    Thanks
    Nick

  • Deleting programs and files

I recently hotsyncd and the computer asked if I wanted older information loaded.  Not thinking, I said YES.  I have no idea what was loaded, but the memory is so full that when I click on APPLICATIONS, it shuts off and reboots and says:
Extensions are not loaded because free data storage space on the device is low.  Delete application or data then reset the device again (APP 8004).
Also:  The free data storage space on the device is very low.  Delete application or Data (APP 8002)
How do I delete everything and start over?  I can hotsync to retrieve from my computer at work to restore all info.  Then, how do I delete that which I should not have added when I hotsyncd from my home computer?
    Thank you,
    Dave
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Michael25, to "delete everything and start over" you need to perform a "Hard Reset".
To perform a Hard Reset: (Palm Knowledgebase article #887)
    http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/887_en.html
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.

  • Easy way to delete a book from a project w/o having to delete subfolders and topics first?

    Using TCS3 on Windows XP.
One of my books has last minute changes and I would like to delete the book and then reimport the newly revised book. Is there an easy way to do this? I tried deleting from Windows Explorer, but RH just displayed a lot of messages that it was missing from the folder and that all of the topics would be recreated.
    Thanks in advance.

I suspect it said all the folders would be recreated, not the files. Once you have imported, you must delete in RoboHelp in the same way as any other topic. Otherwise how does the database it maintains know what you are doing?
If the book is going to change again, maybe linking would be a better option.

  • Winlogin is deleting folders and files on start-up

We have been using Crystal Reports Server X1 Release 2 since 2007.  Week ago folders started dissaperaing and found out that there was a conflict with McCaffe update that deleted business objects folder and Tomcat stopped working.  Now we are trying to restore VM from prior file deletion and everytime we boot that up winlogin seems to be applying settings and deleting folders again.  Help!!!

Not to insult ... this is presented as it is to be sure all facts are given ...
There are two levels to disk formatting:
    Disk-level
    Partition-level
Disk-level, which defines how "partitions" are organized.  There are two disk-level formats you need to be aware of for Mac:
MBR (Master Boot Record), which is used by Windows systems.  This is the one you most likely have on your existing disk.
    GUID is used by Mac.
Your MBR disk can be left at MBR, in my opinion.  It is likely at least 2 years old, and any backup disks you buy for Mac-backups should be new, in my opinion.
Within a disk, there are "partitions", with different formats:
Windows uses a method called NTFS.  It has in the past used FAT, FAT32, but both are replaced by NTFS for most systems now.
    Mac uses HFS+
Microsoft has a patent on NTFS and only grudgingly allows other computers to even read the disks.  Technically anyone could red it, but Microsoft may at anytime pull the plug and sue any "entity" or operating that tries to read it.
    My suggestion is this:
Buy new disks for backing up your new Mac system.  Make them self-powered, already formated for Mac.  Buy new snice backups need to be on reliable hardware.
Also buy new disks for keeping "files only" directories for your new "mac-world".
Use your old disk to move files off as needed, but it is now a "secondary" disk used to read old files.

  • Deleting folders and files

I seem to have acquired a Windows Media Player application and folder (I forget now how that happened it was so long ago). When I put the folder into trash and try to delete trash, I get the message "the operation cannot be completed because the item 'wmphelp.htm' is locked." Then a whole series of other items appear to be locked: "windowshade.gif" "whatsnew.htm" etc. So whenever I want to delete the trash, I first have to take Windows Media Player out, empty the trash, then put the application back in the trash (where it has sat for two years now).
I can highlight both the folder and its program under "Get Info" and neither one appear to be locked. I also appear to have read/write access to the program under "More info..." But clearly, files in the folder or application are locked (which I cannot see or get to in order to unlock). How do I get rid of this Bill Gates-inspired albatross once and for all?
    Thanks!

    Hi raven55,
If you can launch WMP, do so. Now try to Force Quit by pressing Command + Option + Esc on your keyboard. That will Force Quit the application. Drag the app to the Trash and try to Empty it... see if that helps.

  • Automator or Applescript to Rename Subfolders and Files

I have 200 Gigs of files that need to be moved from a Mac's internal drive onto an external non-mac formatted drive for storage (Buffalo TeraStation). Obviously there is an issue with illegal characters in some of my filenames and folder names. I was able to create a workflow in Automator to replace illegal characters in the Filenamnes and nested filenames with the characters of my choice however it did not work for the Sub Folder names. Does anyone know if this is possible in Automator? If not, is there someone out there who can write a script for such a process?
    Thank you in advance.

    Scott,
Here is an AppleScript which can be placed in an Automator "Run AppleScript" action to do what you are want.
Click on the link to move the script into Script Editor. Then select all, copy and paste into a "Run AppleScript" action in Automator. Make sure to completely replace all of the text in the action i.e., don't just replace the (* Your script goes here *).
The find and replace characters are found in the properties at the top of the script so they can be adjusted to what you need. I also have a routine that will replace multiple illegal characters with a single legal character if you need that type of flexibility.
This action should be proceeded by an action that will supply an alias such as "Get Specified Finder Items".
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">property theIllegalCharacter : "/"
    property theReplacementCharacter : "_"

if (character i of theName) is equal to IllegalCharacter then
set theNewName to theNewName & ReplacementCharacter
    else
set theNewName to theNewName & character i of theName
    end if

  • Does Tiger delete applications and files?

I used to have the browser icab on my Performa 6360. iCab has one advantage built in that few Mac OSX browsers have, and that is Full Screen mode. Although I cant vouch for Netscape for OSX as I have not tried it.
When I transfered my Performa's drive in May of 05, iCab was on the drive. But recently I tried to launch and use icab again, but its gone. Does anyone know what happened to it? I never deleted it. Did OSX?
    John

Seems to have taken you quite a while to realise it's not there! OSX can't delete things by itself, but if I read your profile right you've put the drive in an iBook? (Surely that can't be an upgrade??)
If you've installed OSX by an erase and install, everything on the drive would be wiped before installing the OS. That would happen whatever OS you installed unless you were able to Archive and Install (requires a lot of drive space).
As far as I'm aware iCab is still available (perpetually in beta).

  • Searching Directories and Files in Application Server

    Hi All,
I need a function module that will give me all FOLDERS, SUBFOLDERS and FILES in an application server.
So far function modules like RZL_READ_DIR_LOCAl, SUBST_GET_FILE_LIST and EPS_GET_DIRECTORY_LISTING can only work if I specify at least one folder name after the server IP.
I wanted the folder names to be searched dynamically by passing only server IP.
This is for a background program.
    Please help
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
