Delete third party app icon

How do i delete third party app icon? pls help

Hey K.S.Tso,
Thanks for the question. To delete an application from your iPhone that was downloaded from the App Store, simply touch and hold its icon on the Home screen until the icon starts to jiggle, then tap (X). For more information, see the following excerpt:

  • Can't delete third party app, Trash error code -60008

I purchased a new app with no reviews (I know, don't say it) and it's broken so I'm trying to delete it but I'm getting an error code when I drag it to Trash. The error says
"The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -60008)."
When I check 'Get Info' to see what the Permissions are and try to change them (so I can delete it) it says "You have custom access" and shows system as Read & Write, then shows wheel, and everyone as Read only.
When I click on the Lock icon, it shows as unlocked for a few seconds, then changes back to Locked without asking for my password, so I can't even troubleshoot by changing permissions.
Help?  All I want to do is delete the App from my system.
[Yes, I have contacted the developer, the guy has stopped responding to me so I can't get any help from him.]
    Thanks guys!

    Try this.
    1) Reboot, to make sure that that none of the files within the "app" is still in use.
    2) Try emptying trash while holding down the "Option" key.
If that doesn't do it then take the nuclear option by using the "sudo" command to delete your trashes regardless of permissions.  Sudo elevates you to the all powerful "root" user to execute a specific command.

If that doesn't do it then the "app" may have been a trojan/malware and could have installed some type of background process or is launching at boot or login.  In that case, I recommend doing some Google searches of "remove [app name]" and you should find specific intructions for removing it.
If you find that Google searches indicate that the the app is indeed malware, then please help others by naming the evil application so others here can assist and/or know to avoid the application.

  • Missing Third Party App Icon

I've recently noticed that an app, in this case Shazam Encore, is missing. I'm not sure when it went missing so I'm not sure what caused it to happen. I've searched everywhere I can think of for ideas of how to fix it but can't find anything that works. The app shows up in my Applications Management list as well as in my Appworld Installed section. I can't run the program from anywhere though. I've made sure that I have no hidden icons. I've uninstalled and re-installed the app. Not only does that not work, but it also uninstalls and re-installs my BBM at the same time for some reason! I've paid for this app, so completely deleting it and starting from scratch is not an option if it requires me to pay again. I've also tried using my desktop manager to try and fix it, but also to no avail. If anyone knows what's going on or has any suggestions I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

You can completely delete it then reinstall it without paying for it again. I don't know if that will resolve your issue or not but you won't have to pay for it again.
    Cheers.

  • Deleting third party app from System Preferences

I transferred my user files and apps from my old laptop (running Tiger) to my new laptop (running Leopard). Trouble is that I have this old System Pref called "SwitchPic" that I'd like to trash, but I can't seem to find the files in order to trash the app. It's showing up in my System Preferences window, but no files seem to exist on the hard drive. When I tried to find the developer of the software, the link was broken. Any ideas on how to uninstall this app? Thanks!

Yes. Thanks. I found it after I posted my message. I'm still getting used to the search options in Leopard. I had conducted a search for the application, but didn't find anything at first because I had the wrong button clicked on the search window.
The preference pane is gone now.

  • TS1702 How do you close a third party app without deleting it?

How do you close a third party app without deleting it?

The same way any other app gets closed.
Tap the home button to return to the home screen.
If you want to force quit the app, after returning to the home screen, double tap the home button to pull up the multi-tasking bar.  Then press and hold the icon for the app in question until the red x appears.  Tap the x and the app will force quit.
All of this is covered in the User's Guide.

  • Formatting music from windows to a mac using third party app

i used a third party app so that i could download music from a pc onto my os x formatted ipod. initially it worked when i moved the music into my itunes library on my mac, but for some reason now a lot of the tracks won't play and my computer freezes if i press play on any track that originally was downloaded onto a pc. is there a way to identify where the songs came from and then delete then from the library without going through each one a seeing if it will play and then having to force quit itunes because it freezes?

From what I know, windows will not recognize the complicated data of a mac formatted device; hence not recognizing it. Macs can recognize a windows formated ipod though, so if you decide to reformat it on windows, then you can use it on both computers. If you dont though, looks like you are out of luck, sorry.
    Hope I helped.

  • Third Party Apps Not Opening on iPhone 5 using iOS 6.0.2

I have an iPhone 5 and am using iOS 6.0.2 and recently certain third party apps like Facebook, Instagram, Shazzam for instance, no longer open.  When I tap on the app, the app comes up on the screen for about a second, and then closes.  What's strange is that I've been using iOS 6.0.2 and have also been using the most updated versions of the apps without any issues.  The crashing started happening around last Friday.  Here's what I've tried to do to fix the problem so far but none of these options have worked:
    - I restarted my phone by holding down the home button and the lock button.
    - I turned my phone off and turned it on again.
    - I deleted the apps and reinstalled them and then restarted my phone.
    - I downloaded a random free app, opened it, and then tried opening the apps that kept crashing.
    - I restored my phone and synced it using the most recent back up I had, which was from earlier that day.
I did find a temporary solution, that allows the apps to open but I think it's because the apps are not the most recent versions.
    - I restored my phone and set it up as a new phone.  The phone then downloaded all of the apps again and re-synced everything.  The apps did open after that however, when I went to the app store, it said that I had 24 available updates.  I updated all of the apps to their most up to date versions and then noticed that they once again stopped opening and would crash almost immediately after launching them.
    - I then restored my phone again and set it up as a new phone and did not update the 24 apps and all but one of them work.  The only app that I've noticed that still doesn't work is the Blackboard Eats app.  It still crashes almost immediately after launching it.
I took my phone to the Genius Bar this weekend (which is where I was told to restore the phone and set it up as a new phone).  I'm thinking that the issue is purely a software issue, but is there any chance that it could be a hardware issue?
I suppose I could just not update the apps, but I'm hoping there's a better solution than that.  What's weird is that the phone was working with iOS 6.0.2 and all of the most up to date versions of the apps less than a week ago and it seems that somehow, overnight, they stopped working.
Is anyone else running into this problem?  Has anyone found a solution?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

The music player does not remember where the last session ended.  I have about 1000 songs on my iPhone.  I play the songs in the Shuffle mode - and it worked fine on iOS 5.x.  Ever since I updated to iOS 6.0, the shuffle seems to be seriously broken.  It repeats the song sequence of previous session in the exact order instead of starting from where the session ended.  God forbid if your last session was 10-25 songs long - you'll have to hit the Next song so many times to listen to something that you have not heard for a while.

  • Third party apps and peripherals to blame?

I am wondering what applications and external add-ons are working and which ones are not?
It appears to me a lot of people are having problems with external hard drives and previously installed applications.
I did a clean install and have only added Apple programs so far (iLife, iWork). I am hesitant to add any other programs for fear of messing up my install, or worse... my Macbook.
The big question is who did the research and development (lack of) on Leopard.
It is beginning to look more and more like Apple focused all it's attention on perfecting the OS and left all the responsibilities for software compatibility to the third party software developers.
Bad idea. Companies that make software for Apple computers are catering to a far smaller market than our PC brothers, which leads me to believe they do not have the resources to insure 100% compatibility. Apple should have anticipated this and performed more testing.
When I installed Roxio Toast 7 I could not burn a disk image. Shortly thereafter my superdrive stopped working completely. I found out from other posts, that you need version 8, or an older version of 7 to get it to work. On Roxio's website there is no mention of this at all. No a peep.
Apple had a few years to check compatibility and work software engineers to make sure their products worked on Leopard.
I further confirmed my suspicions when I visited the apple store today. I was there because my superdrive stopped working. After I installed Leopard and started to re-install my applications (Office, Toast), the drive quit accepting disks. They replaced the drive while I was at the store. By the way they said it was a coincidence. Mmmm.
While I waited (Fantastic customer support by the way, even on a Sunday) I noticed all the computers in the store happily running Leopard without a hitch. I looked deeper and found little or no third party software installed. External hard drives and cameras appeared to be working fine, but with no added software.
My suggestion is be real careful with what you install.
To Apple... Pleeeaaase test your products more thoroughly before sending them out the door. It may not be your responsibility, but if there are known issues then they should be disclosed.
On the other hand how sad it that... Imagine- "To install our software you must take the weekend off, back up all your data, delete all third party apps, and hope you hardware works with our new OS. Some of you will be lucky and others will not. Meeting our system requirements does not really guarantee anything... Good luck".

It seems they deleted my post from discussions. Thanks.

  • A third party app keeps showing in my podcast app even after restoring as a new phone.  Why?

A third party app that I've used for a long time through iTunes to download a specific podcast not available through the iTunes store has gotten a bit messed up.  I've used this for 3+ years with no problem. Lately though the name of the podcast will show up as an empty folder even though I've downloaded and synced it up.  The episodes may stay for about 24 hours but then the app disappears from inside of iTunes and all the episodes are deleted.  I've removed the app, reinstalled it, etc., and the same thing happens.  I restored the phone from a back up, same problem.   I even set the phone up as new and this same empty folder was on the iPhone immediately.  That I don't understand...how is that even possible?
I'm not sure why wiping the phone and setting up as new made the folder appear.  Not sure what role, if any, iCloud plays in seeing this sort of app?
    Thanks.

I solved this through a combo of reinstalling the app and removing it but the real kicker is to make sure to go into the iPhone if you have any phantom podcasts and go to settings/general/usage/manage storage and see what is there for podcasts.  Delete it from this location to start over.  I found this file was larger than justified compared to what was in the podcast folder.  Somehow this had gotten corrupted.
I'm sharing in case others need a solution.  Of course, the one respondent on here already knew this info so this is for all the other folks out there.

  • Ipad "other space" from a third party app

i have downloaded a third party app (torrent) but to no avail it doesn't play the movie that i have downloaded, even worse it took up "other" space when I tried opening it on VLC and File Manager but when i browsed on SETTINGS>General>Usage it did not use the memory for VLC and File Manager, I deleted the third party app but the other space remains, is there any way to free that space without doing a reset 'cause I haven't done any backups (itunes and icloud) or sync since i got my ipad.

    Do not call the number.
Double tap the Home button, then swipe upwards on the Safari preview.
Go to Settings - Safari - Clear History.
    Restart Safari.

  • HT1343 secret preferences not from third party app.

My one year old daughter hit a bunch of keys on my mac and it opened a preference window that had almost every preference on the whole computer listed. It was a list not icons. It looked like a lot more preferences than you find in the standard preferences window.  I cannot duplicate that window or find it now. It looked like the third party app "secrets" but I do not have that installed.
    What was that?

  • Third party app messes with safari and chrome any help?

The other day I downloaded GBA4 iOS on my iphone. It worked fine and I had no problems. A day later I was using safari and I was told safari can not identify the website so I went to details and I saw a false certificate for google : *.google.com. This is obviously an attempt at phishing and later the same thing happened with a false Facebook. So I am kind of worried. I haven't accepted any certificates yet. But I need help to fix this. I deleted the third party app and did a hard reboot but nothing any ideas?

Because that GBA app is unauthorised, and the developer has had his developer certificate revoked, you had to put the date back on your iPhone. Did you change it back again afterwards? If not, that is what is causing the problem.
The certificate requests you are getting are not fake. It's just that your phone thinks they are out of date because the date on your phone is set back.

  • Unable to delete third party applications

I have several third party applications that i want to delete on my 8320 Curve. I've read many forum posts on the several ways of deleting them and i have hit a brick wall:
    1. The applications are not visible in Advanced Options > Applications, however their modules are when i choose to view > Modules. However when i select the modules which i want to delete, there is no delete option. (The option is there for other applications which i dont want to delete!!)
    2. Several of these applications were installed via PocketMac for Blackberry, and even those will not delete when i choose the uninstall option.
Is there any way of getting rid of these third party applications without resetting my Blackberry, or the use of a Windows program?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi...
You can backup your entire device and reload the os. Using the application loader, you can uncheck third party apps once you start the application loader and reload the device. You can use a third party tool like JL Commander to wipe the device prior to the reload and then reload the OS and then be given the opportunity to load what you want. You will have to make sure you have the latest OS that your provider has posted on the RIM download site.
    Good luck...
    H.
