You've only made 31 posts altogether, so it's hardly a problem surely?

I'm getting this warning in the log window of the debugger:

In Xcode 5, what is the correct way to set CA_DEBUG_TRANSACTIONS=1 in the environment?

  • Intimidating behavior and deleted threads

    Hi
I'm fairly new to these discussion boards and have been using it as a means of getting support or direction on either my iPhone3GS or Logic Pro. I've also been using it as a means of personal market research before purchasing an iPhone4 and iPad.
The issues (or none) around the iPhone4 persuaded me for example to cancel my order and stick with the 3GS until it had all settled down, however I'm sticking with the iPad.
What I have found as I've been surfing through the topics is the amount of intimidating or patronising responses that come back from some users (generally those who've got multiple 1000's of posts.....but not all of course)
I've been finding it increasingly more difficult to engage in any discussion because of this intimidating behaviour. It seems there are more than a few that feel they "own" the board or that they have the right to behave like moderators.
This seems to be leading to a number of threads being deleted and I've noticed this on at least 3 threads I've been part of, very anoying because the content has been valid. e.g. an hour ago a thread on Bluetooth functionality on the iPhone has just been removed. We had 2 users send very patronising responses to initial poster when all he was expressing was a wish list (like I did for the lack of Skip tracks functionality)
So I tried to pose a question to see if there was a techncial reason this wasn't implemented and bang the thread was deleted. Not off topic, not offensive, nothing on apple policy... so why?
Sending feedback using the feedback link to Apple is fine, however because it's only one way (i.e. you never get a response) I feel it is only fair for users to ba able to ask the questios to the general community without fear of being slammed by other uses.
personally I think it's healthy to see other users wishes and wants, there are times when others may even have a workaround, but to be dismisive and just say "this is a user to user board, Apple dont read this" every time seems to me to be plain wrong. Others may wish to engage in that discussion, and to me, if you dont then dont comment as if you "own" the board, just move on.
    Just my 2 cs

    Andy,
+"It just seems a shame to me that users can't have an open discussion around their hopes and wishes for a product, it seems a rule too far."+
Apple Discussions is almost certainly the best site you will find for help with Apple problems and I think that 'rule too far' gives it a narrow focus which is probably one of the reasons that it is so good. There are other places where people can chew the fat.
+"If people don't want to engage in that then they can move on"+
There is some truth in that but allowing such posts would produce clutter and make browsing forums more difficult (and reduce the narrow focus I referred to). You can also bet that threads would begin to carry some 'comment' mixed in with the technical questions and answers that rightly belong here thereby having their value reduced.
+"if I started a thread saying "What do you think about the iPad?" for example, I run the risk of it being removed or being slammed by people because it's not a technical question, and I find it deeply patronising"+
I don't know what your specific experience has been but I would comment that there are often posts here talking about being slammed (and often mentioning high number posters as being particularly bad in that respect) which on examining the posts in question reveal only a polite reference to Terms of Use. There is, of course, no excuse for pointing that out in a rude or aggressive manner.
As deggie suggests discussions in some forums are a little more - shall we say - robust than in others, but experience in the forums I have frequented in my time here suggests that Apple Discussions provide a remarkably gentle and polite environment. To me that is especially true of the high number posters, most of whom are remarkably helpful and tolerant in my experience. One or two can be a little blunt on occasions but certainly in some cases that is because they are not posting in their native language. Of course what you might detect on occasions from some old-timers is a degree of exasperation due to their seeing Discussions (in which they have invested a lot of time and effort in giving help to others) being weakened and perhaps even threatened by vents, rants, mudslinging and whatever.
I realise that your example question "What do you think about the iPad?" was purely hypothetical but it might nicely serve as an example of a thoroughly bad question which is unlikely to get useful answers. Much better would be something along the lines of "Could I do X, Y and Z with the iPad?", a specific question which would seem to be within ToU and which would get specific answers.

  • Deleted Threads?

There was a Thread here titled: When will this come to FCP?
The discussion touched on Features of other NLE's that would be excellent additions to FCP and gave insight to the FCP Studio workflow. Not only was this thread very well written and not the usual 'My NLE is better than yours'; it was also very informative.
Today, when I went to read new responses, thoughts, & additions... the thread was gone. I was not locked, pinned, or otherwise closed... but deleted. As if it never existed.
    What gives?
Does this mean someone violated the rules?
Are we NOT supposed to mention or compare other Software features?
I thought the Forums were a place where we as an FCP Community share Real-World knowledge. As we all know... the text book method does NOT always work. It's nice to know that the Forum exists as an alternate source for finding Working Solutions.
I read the rules of posting. I hope I'm not out of line.
Curious... has anyone ever been following a Thread in the Forums only to have it mysteriously disappear?

Yes threads do mysteriously disappear. But the first red flag when I read your post is the subject line.
"When will this come to FCP?"
It indicates a desire to know when a not yet available feature is going to come. Subject lines like "When will XYZ happen" are inherantly dangerous to post because Terms of Use forbid:
    "Submissions
    1. Stay on topic. Apple Discussions is here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:
    1. Speculations or rumors about unannounced products.
    2. Discussions of Apple policies or procedures or speculation on Apple decisions. "
Therefore I think you were a victim of the subject line, even if the content of the thread was different.
So even if the thread never actually promotes speculation in its content, a venturesome user might briefly read one post of your thread, and try to tempt to write in info they might have read in a rumor site about when such a feature might appear, or speculate such a feature.
I suggest in the future when posting a thread about a currently available feature somewhere, make the subject line less provocative. I.e. Anybody know if Final Cut Pro has _this feature_ (substituting the feature name in place of this feature)?
That's going to raise less eyebrows than "When will Final Cut Pro have this..."
I don't work for the forum moderators. I just happen to know what looks suspicious. Neither do I tempt to guess their policy. I'm just saying what I think might have triggered their response. I could be wrong.

  • How do you restore an accidentally deleted thread in iMessage

My wife accidentally deleted a thread on her 5C in iMessage.  Is there anyway to undelete the thread.  I wish Apple would change that thread delete so that it is no so easy to accidentally do it.
    Thanks in advance.
And yes i have looked but can't find a way to recover an entire thread.

You'd have to restore the phone from a backup made when the thread was still there.
I wish Apple would change that thread delete so that it is no so easy to accidentally do it.

  • HT3529 how do i delete threads to contacts?

I have a friend who switched from an iPhone to a non iphone and I can't change her number in my phone contacts to an sms user number ..I can receive her messages but she don't receive mine ..a lil bit ago we figured out that I can change it in messaging by holding the message bubble but instead of doing that all the time lol how do I get it to stay in non iphone message so I don't have to always do this .thanks!!

    Hello  janeenfoam
You do not need to do anything, but your friend does. She would need to unlink her phone number from iMessage. In order to do that, she would need to either have access to her previous iPhone and sign out of iMessages, or reset her password to her Apple ID. Check out the article below to forward to you friend to resolve the issue.

  • Iphone 5 - I am trying to delete message threads and once I do, I go to text someone else and it won't send. HELP? I just don't want those messages on my phone anymore.

Iphone 5 - I am trying to delete message threads and once I do, I go to text someone else and it won't send. HELP? I just don't want those messages on my phone anymore. I have tried to restart my phone but when I do, the "deleted" threads show back up on my phone. I use iOS 7.1.

    Hello Makayla,
It sounds like you're deleted message threads keep coming back after you restart the devie. I recommend starting by quitting all the running apps on your phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes and then restore it as a new device and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

I recently spoke to someone from Apple support, and here's what I gathered:
"Older" phones (read: anything iPhone 4s or older?) sometimes have trouble keeping up with the processing demands of the newest software. When deleting threads with a lot of media (photos, videos, etc), it can take a lot of processing to successfully delete. What this support tech suggested was picking some of the bigger threads at night before you go to bed, deleting them, and then leaving the phone alone-- and plugged in-- overnight to give it enough time to delete everything. He suggested not even pressing the lock button; just leave it to process (though I imagine the screen will lock on its own anyway).
Not sure if it works yet since I just spoke to him, but it's the closest thing I've got to a solution!

  • Who Said What That Got The "Cold Boot Problems Solved" Thread Deleted?

    Hello, guys.
I logged in this morning and saw that Falipay??? had posted last in the thread I started called [something like] "Cold Boot Issues Solved And Temps Now Correct". I didn't get a chance to read it, but now that I've logged back in to see what he and others may have       written since my last post, the thread is gone. Not edited...gone.
What happened since I last posted that got it deleted? It's not that important, but I was curious. Hope it wasn't something I did (I'm not showing any warnings).
    Anyway, thanks.

    Hey, Bas.
I see now that you reinstated my deleted thread. It should be apparent that my thread was not about me "telling people to buy Asus". Thanks for reconsidering your position.
And thanks Maxed Out for coming to my defense in the following thread (the "foul" language thing had me confused until I realized you guys were originally discussing something that happened before I ever joined the forum):

The thread that was deleted provided relevant user evidence of differences in MB's using the identical NF3-250 chipsets and baseline CPU, memory and power supply. With different results ....thus pointing to apparently correctable issues MSI needs to address.........there was absolutly no fol..(faoul foul fal?)...fowl language there, the users tests and opinions were presented unbiasedly and rationally (and had appropriate praise for MSI's strengths (spelling from BIOS)..........
Why shouldn't forum users be advised of this?

  • HT1688 Is it possible to delete a phone number from Messaging history?

Is it possible to delete a phone number from MESSAGING History?

I think you can delete those numbers.
    First delete the Message thread.
Then when typing in a number or contact that is similaro to the number of the deleted thread the unwanted number will appear. If there is a blue arrow to the right of the number tap on the blue arrow.
You should be presented with a choice to Delete from Recents.
Select that choice and the number should no long appear.
