Delete Thumbnails of photos with invalid reference

Ive searched the fourms but didnt find what I was looking for.
I am looking for a way to delete the thumbnails of the photos in my iphoto library where the reference has been broken. I had sort of a hybrid library of managed and referenced photos. I have since deleted the referenced photos via finder but the thumbnails remain in iphoto.
So I have about 15,000 thumbnails I need to get rid of (and keep about 5,000 which are the managed files).
Is there any way to delete invalid referenced thumbnails only? Ive tried the rebuild but there is no way Im going to sit here and click "ok" 15,000 times when iPhoto pops up the "cant find photo" window.

This may work:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords.
If it doesn't then your options are to click ok 15,000 times or create and populate a new library.

since 1 month in our PI dev we have a strange situation.
Inside every SC we see a tree named "objects with invalid references" that inside cointain the Namespace.
I notify we have this situation after a massive transport from PI prod to PI dev .
we decide to do this because no more develop are necessary and we decided to sincronizate the 2 systems.
It's possible remove this ?

double clicking in iPhoto will open the photo.
The left and right arrow key will move between photos, as well as swiping on a trackpad or Apple mouse.
See >System Preference>Trackpad or mouse for options and tut
While selected or in the smaller icon view hitting the Delete key will delete the pic.
Command Z will undo the last action taken.
Periodically you have to empty the iPhoto trash. iPhoto drop down menu>empty trash
Same applies for viewing pics in a Folder NOT in iphoto, Use the up and down arrows does not work in Preview, but as you know in QuickLook (spacebar) the up and down arrows will navigate.

Syncing thumbnails in library with deletion of photos from disk?

After I delete some photos directly from the disk, iPhoto's thumbnails still remain the same. Only when I try to open an image do I get a black alert box, implying that the original file is missing.
Is there a way to automatically sync the library to only show thumbnails for photos that still actually exist?

Well that's the bad news, I'm afraid.
If you try and access the iPhoto Library Folder with another application (especially one that runs on another OS) you risk damaging the iPhoto Library. If you attempt to manage the files - delete them, organise them, move them, rename then, in fact do anything to change the path to the files then you will damage the library.
You can share the files with another photo manager by using a referenced library.
Now the same rules apply, you can't move or rename or change the path to the files, but at east if you delete them via the Finder (or Picasa) it won't stop iPhoto from deleting it's part of the equation.
So, if you feel it's necessary to use both applications, recreate your library as a referenced Library.
(You're going to have to recreate your Library anyway, as the deletions have left it terminally confused.)
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. It will create an alias to the Original file, a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You need to place the files in your filing system first, then import them to iPhoto. Deleting means that trashing the files in iPhoto removes them from iPhoto. You'll need to trash the Original images yourself. (Tip: Use the 'Show Original File' command to track down the Original, then trash the files from iPhoto and then the file from your filing system).
2. You cannot move or rename the files or in any way change the path to the pics on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.

iphoto: How to safely delete or move photos. I have over 7000 photos. I would really like to move tsome of the older photos to an external hard drive. (They are backed up in Time Machine, but I like the immediacy of having them available.) So question 1 - is it possible to split the iphoto library so that the directory tree points to an external drive in some cases? And if that doesn't work--I am willing to export and delete some of these photos. However, an earlier delete left me with events that have a name in the event folder, but no photos. Question 2 -- How do I properly delete photos so that all references disappear?

Warning: Time Machine is not an Archiving application. It keeps rolling back ups. That means if you delete something from the source Mac it will eventually be also deleted from Time Machine. How long that takes depends on the amount of disk space TM has. So, remember, backing up in Time Machine is not the same as Archiving.
For the blank thumbnails: This can happen if you try delete too many photos at one go. Experienced users suggest you should delete in batches of 100 or so.
Yes you can split the Library, where some of the Masters are stored locally and some on an external disk, but really, you don't want to do that. iPhoto's file management tools are limited at best, and if the path to the files changes then you could find yourself repairing the links to the files - all of them, one by one.
Better: Have your entire Library on an External Drive.

Here's one way to do what you want:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

Absolutely INFURIATING.
I have spent absolute hours building a photo album for the first year or my sons life. Sorting through quite literally thousands and thousands of images. Got a brilliant looking album using 177 of them.
Now everytime I try to check out it won't get past page 1 of building the book.
It says the following "There is a problem with the photo with the filename "null". The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace this photo or delete it from your book.".
The images all look perfect. I have even tried taking them out and re adding the first page images from the library.
Same problem.
This is so annoying. So far I have NOT been happy with this iphoto application having nothing but problems with missing thumbnails. Corrupted images. Things that have never happened to me using a windows machine.

Do the filenames contain special characters, like "ä,ü,..." or white space or are the vry long? Is there anything special about the image format? Try to export the edited versions in that case and reimport it with a different, shorter filename.
For testing, create a new book with only the images you want to check.
If this does not fix it, try rebuilding. Depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild the library.

Thumbnail is blank with a hashed border, and underlying photo is AWOL.

iPhoto appears to be doing something odd with a small number of my photos: their thumbnails are appearing with a white dashed line in a rectangle, with no image, and double-clicking on the offending items just shows a similar item (white fashed line, excalamtion mark in the middle) full screen.
I've used option/command and started iPhoto, ticking all four options, but this doesn't appear to help.
Most frustratingly, as I scroll around, it starts off with images where these thumbnails are, just for a fraction of a second!
Any bright ideas will be much appreciated!

The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder. Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
Another way of rebuilding the database is to use iPhoto Library Manager .
If none of these work, it seems likely that you have a corrupted library file. In this case you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

New to Dreamweaver, so my code knowledge does not exist yet. Have Mercy!!!!
Anyway , I am making a typical product page.
I prefer that when people click the thumbnail product photo to not have to click into another brower.
Nowadays you are able to click in what is commonly called a "Quick View" that pops up and gives you a full sized
image along with product detail, and pricing. That's all I want.
How can I link this [the larger photo and product detai] to my thumbnails in Dreamweaver????
I want the look that is on every website like Target, Macy, etc.

don't understand your problem, ore hope to understand it right. You could put the images on a DW file and link to another file with the larger image and where you have written all your informations.

Thank you very much for your reply gdgmacguy :) I did all you suggested apart from restore as new device . Didn't know I could do that . After restore I did restore from back up only, as I didn't want to end up without contacts details on my phone. If I restore as new device how do I get my all contacts? Update using iTunes on your computer. The space requirement does not apply because of how the process works via iTunes as opposed to over the air.

Place that first folder of photos that you synced to the iPad within the main folder of photos that you sync from and select them to sync again. You can place any number of subfolders within the main folder that you sync from and select those folders to sync. Just "tick"(select) the folders in the photos tab in iTunes.

Per my understanding, first you should
delete the record from the Foreign Table and then after you have to delete the record from the Primary Key table
