Delete versions and masters in aperture and finder

When I import pictures to Aperture I store the originals in Finder/pictures. While browsing through my pictures in Aperture I would like to delete the masters in Finder/pictures at the same time as I am in Aperture. Is there a way to do so? Or some way to update my Finder/picture file to reflect what I deleted or created (new versions) in Aperture?

I think you're asking: 1) can you find the master for a version you're looking at, 2) if you're looking at a master, can you locate all the versions (or instances in albums), and 3) can you find which albums a photo is used in if you're seeing it in another album or looking at the master. (Versions and having a photo in multiple albums aren't the same thing in Aperture lingo.)
Good questions and I think many of us would want to have those capabilities.
Unfortunately I can only answer one of the questions. You could search for the file name if you find the file in an album and you'd be taken to the master if you're high in the hierarchy. It can be shown in the Metadata HUD if you select the Versions and Filenames preset.

Firefox has been crashing daily. I have not found a fix. If I am unable to fix Firefox I will delete it and find annother APP.

All of a sudden out of the blue I get a message that Firefox has crashed. With several options, which pretty much make me start over. Quite frankly I am a bit P's and will remove Firefox from my system and find another more reliable App.

Damn thing crashes about every 40 minutes at best.
Bloody useless.
And yes I've tried disabling the add-ons and updating the plug-ins and every other measure known to man. Still doesn't work.

Deleting Masters and Versions and pics duplicating as versions

I'm working with a small library of some flower images and had done a 'quick and dirty' auto adjustment and easy rating [4]; then I went back and on the Versions [selected Adjustments are Applied to have only the versions show up in browser] noted some are Rejects [X]. I thought I could then delete the two images, one master and one version.
But, when I go in to delete the Master it just does it = without a warning [I have show warning selected in prefs] - but when I go in to delete a =Version 2 it gives me the Delete Masters Warning....in other words, Aperture is treating Versions like Masters and Masters like Versions.
Also when I go into List view to check things I find Master is [for instance] 9.47mb but so is Version 2 the same size = in other words when I do an adjustment and create a Version it's not just creating small kb size versions via data but is actually duplicating and then applying the adjustment.
These are pics in the library not referenced.

Thanks = I reread it and am thinking of the images in that way. As I tried to explain, In the library were images which I reviewed and made adjustments to [auto adjustment plus rating]. Then I did a filter to show only Versions [in which images that show are where adjustments were applied] so that only Versions would so up, marked some as Rejects with X and planned to delete those but not the masters for them.
When I would go to delete the Version [its name would have Version 2 in it], it was treated as if it was a Master and the Delete Masters warning would come up. But when I would go to delete a Master [not a version] no such warning would come up at all even if there were a version and master associated together.
I went to List view to check and be sure and what I am seeing is that the Master has 9.4 mb in size but the Version which was created by the auto adjustment + rating ends up also with 9.4mb and not just a few K for the data -- so that what appears to me to be happening is that the Master image is, in fact, being duplicated and not just having data changes applied = there is no size differential between the Master and the Version, in other words.

Cannot download aperture when using trial version and all photo work will be lost if delete trial version

Your Aperture library is not deleted when you delete Aperture from the Applications folder. Neither are your settings BTW.
Do make certain your library is backed up!

Deleting Versions....and not master copy

Every time I delete a version I loose the photo and can't find it anywhere. Where the **** are the master copies and why does deleting a version from the "FILE" menu get ride of the entire picture?
Also, where can I find a good document that will help me learn the features of this program? I don't always have access to the internet and want to be able to work the program. The user manual is horribly inadequate.

Aperture (and Lightroom) do not behave like classic computer file based pixel editors. A non-destructive workflow requires that one understand some basic concepts:
-- Every image starts with a "master" image which is placed in one, and only one, "project." These images may be "managed" in which case they are arranged in date order inside the Aperture "library" or "referenced," in which case they are arranged any way you want, any where you want.
-- Within Aperture, every master has at least one "version." You cannot see masters, only versions. You can create as many versions as you want. You might create them to preserve different crops, color adjustments, or B&W conversions. You can also populate them around various albums, smart and dumb, so that one image can be found many places. (For example, you may one the same image of Sally in Cancun in a bikini in the albums: Models, Mexico, and Swimwear. Easily done.
-- Deleting versions does not delete the master, until you delete the LAST version, in which case it Aperture will warn you. If you delete a version in one place, it will warn you if the same version exists in other places.
-- Sending a version to an "external editor" will create a new master image and version, in the format you have selected for external editors. This new master will normally be "stacked" next to the original.
Hope this helped. I tried to "quote" all of the ApertureSpeak terms. Aperture is an incredibily powerful image processing system that relieves you of almost all computer file handling annoyances. But, as with anything this powerful, it can be complex and ya gotta read the book. Or consider taking the tutorial.

My imovie seems to have completely crashed... and I'm hoping someone can help me. I have moved all my projects and events to a folder on my desktop. I've deleted all the plist files I can find and I still cannot get it to open.

Please help... it seems all is lost as all I kind find on this subject seem to lead to nowhere. My engagement was on imovie, a school project, several videos of our son. You will have to hold my hand through this process... as I am not very good at this type of thing. I believe I have deleted all the necessary plist files and moved my projects and events to a folder on my desktop. imovie has been upgraded to version 9.0.9... Whenever I open it I just get the beachball and then I have to force quit and I get the following report:

Yes this can be many things - and I can only guess/suggest.
A. a very common origin to make the Mac un-happy is to - PANIC-HALT - when the round multicolored thing appear.
So much can go wrong by doing this - and if done often problem builds up that can result in a real disaster.
B. NEVER - move or alter any folder named - iMovie Event's resp. iMovie Project's - as iMovie has no search function - moving them results in that iMovie get's 100% lost.
One can move them - but this HAS TO BE done within the iMovie application (as it is up and running)
C. preference files - there are TWO or more Libraries on Your Mac. First and easy to find is the one You see when opening Your Start-Up Hard Disk window = Root Library == the WRONG ONE
What we need to find is the one in Your User-Account folder (icon as a house) - and this is in Mac OS X.7, X.8 and X.9 HIDDEN. To see it do:
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )
or - do like this.
On the Finder window at the top left of the screen,
Hold down the Option key and clicked on Go.
This allowed You to see the Library folder and select it.
Then keep the Option button pressed down in order to see and select the Library folder.
Once found it, You are able to navigate to the iMovie preferences file and move it to the trash. iMovie then start’s up fine!
Now here in Your User Library - find Preferences and trash

com.apple.iMovie8.plist
com.apple.iMovie9.plist
com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
and find
com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
I Prefere another way to find out if this is the problem.
(after all folders (iMovie Event/Projects are moved into original place)
• go up to Apple Menu
• Down to System Pref's
• Select Accounts - Create a new User
• Go down the Apple menu - Log OUT
• Log into as the new User
Now try iMovie
Does it work at all ? (Yes You don't see Events or Projects in Your original Account just now)
If so - Then we know that there is a corrupted pref file to be trashed.
Else - the problem are much more severe.
D. After Panic Halt / Forced Quit - I always do -. to keep disasters on arms length.
• Repair Permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
• Start from other HD or DVD - then run Repair Hard Disk (Apple Disk Util tool)

I had two tool bars with google search in the header part . Cannot delete them even if I delete firefox and relaod. Am not sure where any other details I have could be stored that I haven't found. I now assume it is on the firefox web site. I just want to download a clean (new) copy of firefox and none of the stuff I had as add ons in the one I have just deleted (twice because it will not disappear so there are files somewhere I can't find. Please tell me how to get a clean version with no old stuff from previous load.

You can uninstall the relevant extensions from Tools>Addons to remove those toolbars. Also there may be some unwanted plugins which you may want to disable. This should solve your problems.
If you still want a clean profile, uninstall firefox with the "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations" checkbox enabled. Alternatively you may remove your firefox profile folder which (on Window7) is stored in C:\Users\<your-username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles folder with a randomly name. You may delete this folder before installing a new version to get a clean profile.

I'm sorry you've lost files, but when you set up an account as Guest, there's a message that clearly states "When a guest user logs out, all information and files in the guest account's home folder are deleted". If you want an account where files are retained, you should create an Admin or Standard type.
You will need to use data recovery techniques to see if your file can be recovered. The more that you use your computer, the greater the risk that the file will be overwritten. You can contact a professional data recovery service such as DriveSavers (which will be expensive, but you can judge the value of the file) or try something like Data Rescue. The latter has a demo which you can install to determine if your file can be recovered, and then, on purchase, you can actually recover the file.

Internet and firefox worked, i downloaded new version which would not work due to proxy settings. In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".

Argh that's frustrating! I never noticed that key did not work in InDesign.
A bit of research and it turns out the MS Office has this as an option in their software. But I cannot find an option in InDesign preferences to make this work.
However, somethings are not listed in the shortcuts and preferences and are hidden triggers in InDesign which can be accessed through a script.
I'm not saying it's possible to activate the Insert Key through a script, but it's plausible that it can be activated.

I know this may be a possibility as with InDesign's earlier versions of PDF export to interactive documents there previously was no way to export interactive pdfs as single pages if in Spreads.
But the option to toggle this setting was scriptable.

Also, I have noticed that every once in awhile you can not close tabs you've opened, either by pushing on the X button and/or clicking on the mouse to close it. Although closing the window and opening it again (without closing the Firefox application) seemed to rectify the problem in the short term, it's becoming quite annoying.

First, download the add-on SQManager. This should be included with FireFox, it is really good.
Look for the file '''moz_hosts''' in the folder '''places.sqlite'''.
Don't delete the file, just delete the information in the file. My file has over 3600 websites, which go back years!! I did not know they were there, but I was frustrated about not being able to get rid of them. They popped up every time I used the address bar. Clearing my history would not get rid of them.
This is where they are stored!! I found that by deleting the pesky web site from '''moz_hosts''', it does not appear in my address bar anymore!!!
I think that if I just delete all the websites in moz_hosts....

As long as you don't delete the file, just empty it, FireFox won't know the difference. It will just keep adding websites to it until you empty it again.
Why running "clear recent history" doesn't do this, I don't know. You are doing manually what "clear recent history" is not doing.

No, unfortunately, when you format a drive, it will erase all the contents. So you will need to find a temporary "storage" place to put the stuff using a PC so you have access to it. Then reformat using Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities). If only using with mac, format Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and use GUID Partition scheme under Partitions/Options. After formatting, you can drag the files back.

On my iMac, I also have many folders containing some of the same photos. My computer is used for both personal and business purposes. My libraries should be separated, one for each.

To merge libraries use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - or Aperature
To find duplicates within an iPhoto library use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -
Photos that are not in an iPhoto library can be imported telling iPhoto not to import duplicates (an imperfect procews) and then IPLM can find the duplicates
As to keeping seperate libraries - only you can do that - IPLM can move photos between libraries for you but only you can know which photos should be in which library
