Delete XMP meta *including* xmpMM:history

Hi all,
a quick question, maybe you as experts are so kind to give a hint:
i need to delete the xmpMM:history of an Adobe Illustrator (Mac OSX 10.6) file – neither AI CS 4 nor BRIDGE CS 4 let me do it. hitting the trash can button in the file information dialogue clears all meta data – but after a reload of the file it appears again.
what might a be a quick workaround for the mac?
i was searching for 45min on the net and only found crappy exif file viewers..
thats why I turn to you - the professionals – now.
thank you so much.
i appreciate your answers.

xmpMM:History is an "Internal" property that is specifically "owned" by the application.
In the definition of an Internal Property: "Must be maintained by an application. ... Users should not be allowed to change the values of such properties. ... If an application does not set the value of an internal property, it should discard any value that may have existed previously."
Use of Delete in File Info->Advanced is surely considered a "User" change, and thus, not supported for xmpMM:History. Since File Info is often silent on a command failure, it is prudent to reload the file to see if changes really took effect.
I expect that Illustrator may handle "internal" metadata differently for different file "Save" scenarios:
- "Save As" especially to another file format
- "Save a Copy"
- "Save for Web & Devices" (typically minimizes the metadata size)
You may need to experiment to characterize the behaviors relative to xmpMM:History.
Although it may not apply to your situation, the three versions of save listed above should always result in a single XMP packet in the file. On the other hand, an Illustrator "Save" or a Bridge "Update XMP" can result in a new "current" XMP packet appended to the file, leaving the first, now obsolete, packet still in the file. Reload the file in Illustrator or Bridge should only report metadata from the "current" XMP packet. Other applications, such as Mac OS-X Spotlight, may report tags and content from obsolete XMP packet(s) as well as from current packets.
What is your purpose for deleteing this metadata?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How to Delete Messages in Spotlight Search History without Resetting or Syncing!!

I know there are a lot of individuals dealing with this issue and if you are like me you spend hours searching "how to delete messages in spotlight search history" and it seems like every post either says to reset your phone or sync it! I'm sorry but I did not want to go through the hassle of resetting my phone but I did try to sync it which did nothing so I decided to just mess around with my settings and I believe to have found the answer to everyone's question!!
This worked for me so I really hope this works for you! Just follow the steps below:
    1. Go to <settings><general><spotlight search><uncheck messages>
    2. Then turn your phone off and wait a minute! Turn your phone back on and off again 2 or 3 more times while waiting a minute in between turning it off!
    3. After you are done doing that go back to step 1 and <check messages>!
    4. Now go to your spotlight search and those messages should be deleted! If they are deleted I would recommend going back to step 1 and <uncheck messages> so you do not have the same problem with messages showing up again in the spotlight search!
It works for Mail too! Just follow the same steps listed above but uncheck mail instead of messages or do both at the same time!!
*Here is an extra tip which will remove deleted Mail Messages, just follow the steps below:
    1. Go to <settings><mail, contacts, calendars><your mail account> scroll down and click <advanced> Now click <remove> under the title Deleted Messages and you can choose to have your mail removed After One Day, After One Week, After One Month or Never.
I hope this post was detailed enough and easy to understand!
I really hope it works for you like it did for me!
    Good Luck!!!

I tried this fix and it does not work.
I have read that this is a problem for a long time - years. Me, personally, I do have emails and texts from the past that are private and were deleted, that I do not want my husband or daughter to read. Many people have this complaint and have had it a long time. Why does Apple not fix it?!?
Another privacy issue is the iMessage default settings on new devices. We bought a new iPhone for my college-age daughter and received all of her text messages until we noticed it and told her. We did a temporary fix. Then I got a new iPhone and the same thing happened. I had to set up iCloud accts. for each of us so that we each have privacy that cannot be tampered with. We still share our original iTunes account. Why did that have to happen?!?
We have been Apple consumers (laptops, iPads, iPods, iPhones) for over ten years (? longer w/just desk top) w/ the same account. These breaches in privacy are upsetting!!  My point here is that these breaches are unacceptable!  The spotlight search issue appears to be unresolved.  FIX THIS APPLE!

  • Deletion of customer include in exit

I have implemented an FM exit by implemention the include Z* in it.
Now there is no need for this and i want to revert back the orginal.
I have removed the code which i have written the in  the Z* include but i also want to delete
this Z* include can we do that.........So that it will be in non-implemented status again.

Thanks for the reply ...currently i have implemented all the changes what you have said and it is not calling the exit any more ....But my doubt is whether we can delete the include completly form the system...
Initial when we try to implement the include it will warn you " do you want to implement the include "
basically i want to bring it back to this state .....
So for this if i delete the include and activate the exit will it not give an error saying that include is not present ?

  • Add/Update/Delete XMP (PDF) metadata?

I'm new to working with PDF. What I would like to do is add/update/delete XMP metadata to PDF documents. These documents will be indexed by our search engine, which I'm told can index this metadata. It's indexing Dublin Core so don't see why it could not index custom schema. Anyway, I've been researching this and as a non-programmer I'm confused.
    1) Can PDF metadata be added, updated and deleted?
    2) Can this be done via a template? (ie. get the PDF file, fill out a metadata form, and submit it or in the case of update/delete change or remove the data).
    3) Are there any developed applications (client or server based) that can do this or must they be developed? If they exist please tell me what and where they are ...
    4) Has anyone used the Java XMP parser?
    5) Anyone know of any online demos of adding/updating/deleting PDF XMP metadata?
    6) Can XML or XMP data be imported into a PDF file?
Any help will be very much appreciated.
    Thank you

    1) Can PDF metadata be added, updated and deleted?
PDF metadata is tricky - it consists of legacy doc info within the PDF structure and newer XMP metadata - Adobe is making the transition to supporting XMP across all its applications but we have to ensure not to break older workflows.
Additionally, PDFs have the property of storing successive edits - meaning, changes are stored as add ons on top of the orginal when Saved - they are cleaned up when the PDF is Save As-ed.
This has the added implication that XMP packets are duplicated - so scanning for the XMP maker will bring up multiple 'hits' even if one object is there. I've believe there are some heuristics that can be applied to find the 'right' packet using mod dates.
In most cases it helps to have the PDFL to assist in the process.
    2) Can this be done via a template? (ie. get the PDF file, fill out a metadata form, and submit it or in the case of update/delete change or remove the data).
Yes, within the application - under Advanced > Document Metadata...
Outside of the application you will need to build your own workflow.
    3) Are there any developed applications (client or server based) that can do this or must they be developed? If they exist please tell me what and where they are ...
PDF can be updated very easily using the Photoshop CS File Browser - multiple files can be selected and metadata templates applied. Additionally the File Info dialog in the File Browser can be customized - adobe.com/xmp for docs.
Also, check out poundhill.com - they have plugins for customization and integration with FileMaker, AppleScript & PHP
    4) Has anyone used the Java XMP parser?
I'd like to know the answer to this too!
    Check out:
    http://www.java-channel.org/query.jsp?cids=c_10807
Looks like some there are XMP and PDF related java code.
    5) Anyone know of any online demos of adding/updating/deleting PDF XMP metadata?
What would you like to see? Using the Acrobat application or from a developer perspective?
    6) Can XML or XMP data be imported into a PDF file?
What were you looking to do? Again, this can be done using templates and the PS CS File Browser.
Pound Hill may be able to provide the connectors that you could piece together.

  • I want to delete a single contact from history.

Hi!! I want to delete a single contact from history. I have read that few users have asked similar questions in the past as well and also I have found some of them answering or rather questioning why one will like to delete a single log from the history. ???
The answer is simple. For me, I may not want my friends/parents or any other know whom I was talking with. This feature is very much there in Nokia and it is very usefull as well.
So in case, any body find the solution, please reply.

In the present iOS, it's all or nothing. You can suggest Apple add the ability to edit the call history log here:

  • Find the deleted item from the purchased history

the Imovie was deleted before from the purchased history, now, i want to install it again, however, i can't find it at all fromt the purchased history.

Well at this time I would highly recommend contacting iTunes to find help in restoring the purchase. Also, if you have the receipt e-mail you may want to keep it handy as well. First I would go to the iMovie application in the MacApp Store and submit a bug report or something to the developer (Apple) to make sure they know of this issue so it can be prevented for other users in the future. Next, visit the Apple Express lane [ https://expresslane.apple.com/ ] and follow through the steps needed to stating your problem. Finally, an official iTunes representative should e-mail you about the issue and either fix the file on one of their servers or give you a refund.

    Hello, Robertofromfo.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like you may have Private Browsing enabled.  The article below will show you how to disable this feature.
    iOS: Safari web settings

You can also attempt to clear your history via the steps below.
Follow these steps to clear information from your device:
To clear your history from Safari, tap Settings > Safari > Clear History.
To clear all cookies from Safari, tap Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies and Data.
To clear other stored information from Safari, tap Advanced > Website Data > Remove All Website Data.

  • Clear Settings does not delete .xmp sidecars

    Using latest CR 6.4, Bridge 4.0.4.2 & Ps 12.0.4
Posting here because most knowledgeable folks here rarely if ever seem to visit the Bridge forum anymore. And it does relate to CR settings.
In Bridge, if you choose Develop Settings/Clear settings, the settings are indeed cleared but the sidecar files remain, even if you refresh the Windows folder and/or close and reopen both Bridge and Ps. Additionally, even if you manually delete the sidecars, the size of the exported cache file Bridge.T is not reduced but remains the same.
    Anyone else noticed this?

That has always been the case, and it's perfectly normal, expected behavior.
Your mistake is assuming that the xmp file would contain only ACR edit information.  That is just not the case.
Here's an example of the kind of information retained in an xmp file in CS4 after clearing the develop settings in Bridge.  This should make it clear to you why the xmp file must remain after clearing the ACR development settings rather than having to be built from scratch all over again next time you open the file:

  • Delete XMP Core Properties not saving changes

    Hi,
I'm editing some legacy docs for enterprise search retrieval optimization using 6.0 Pro, and need to remove the Modified Date meta tag so not to mislead users in to thinking the doc content was modified.
When I use the delete feature via Advanced/Doc Metadata/Advanced, it only deletes the property as long as I'm in that window. When I go to File/Doc Properties, the data is still there, and then when I go back to the Adv feature, it is also there.
Could someone please explain if this behavior is the expected functionality, of if this might be a bug.
    Thanks!
    Anne B
PS - Even though I'm not using the SDK, I though you all might know :)

This is the expected behavior. The ModifyDate XMP metadata property is propagated from ModDate key of the PDF document DocInfo dictionary. It represents the modification time stamp of the document. Although you delete the property from the embbeded metadata packet, the ModDate key of PDF will still be present.
    Hope this helps,
    Shulin
