Deleted Address Book - HELP!

I accidentally deleted Address Book. I was moving it to my Dock and missed, so it went to the desktop, then I put it on the dock and deleted it from my desktop. Aparently, that was the program and not a duplicate. Is there any way I can download it or pull it off one of the installation CDs?

You should be able to load it from your installation DVD as one of the optional installations.

  • Delete Address Book entries

I've been trying to find out, whether with Automator or AppleScript, how to delete specific contacts from Address Book and am not having any luck. My ultimate goal is to back up 10 specific vCards and then delete them. I've gotten Automator to export the vCards of 10 people, but that's where I get stuck. Automator doesn't seem to have any actions that delete cards. I've tried Google for AppleScript on deleting Address Book cards but I really can't find anything. I can't even find a list of what actions I can use with AppleScript on Address Book. Any help would be appreciated.

    Anybody?

  • HT2500 delete address book entries

How do you delete address book entries?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
With Address Book open, select the entry to be deleted in the Name (middle) column by clicking on it.
Now select Edit, Delete Card from the top menubar.
The option to delete a card does not appear unless a card is selected first.

  • Why can't I edit or delete Address Book "On My Mac" or sync with iCloud?

Why can't I edit or delete Address Book cards on my Macs, now that I've migrated to iCloud?  I can edit/delete if I go to iCloud, but the changes don't sync with my Macs.  What's happening, and what's a solution?  Just wait for Apple to fix a bug?

On your mac, if your look at the left panel of the Address Book, you'll find general categories of "iCloud" and possibly "On my mac" - if you have contacts in the latter, then they are only local to your mac, they are not shared with iCloud.  If you don't have an "iCloud" category, then your mac(s) is not set up of iCloud.  Go to system preferences and look in iCloud.  Is the mac signed into iCloud, are contacts turned on for syncing?

  • Address Book Help is not available

I don't believe I have ever had Address Book Help. When I go to it, it will give me the prompts for Content, etc., but there is no information there.
Can someone assist me in figuring out how to download Address Book "Help". Would I go to my start-up disk and somehow just download that part? or is there a download on line which I can use?
I have no idea why it's not available. I've had the computer since 04 and seldom have needed to access Help in this regard. Now, I really need it.

  • Accidentally deleted address book

hi , am running leopard on a mac mini and accidentally deleted the address book program that was moved to the desktop from the applications folder and hiding behind the dock .
Time machine wasn't set up to backup any data yet , and i'm afraid the entire address book has been lost . Just before the trash was emptied , there were numerous updates performed thru software update , for the iwork and ilife suites , and the computer has been restarted one time . I had also reinstalled the 10.5.1 update . is there any way to retrieve the deleted address book without having to use 3rd party software like pacifist to pull a new copy of address book from the leopard install disc and rebuild it from scratch ?

    Not that I know of.
However, you only lost the application.
You apparently did not loose all the information.
The information is located in Users/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder.
If that AddressBook folder is still there, then so is all of your information.

  • Address book help can't find files

My address book help files can't be found by the help viewer. It only shows the first page. When trying clicking on the link it gives either the error message 'can't find the file' or 'something ...1001'. The same goes for Automator. I haven't checked the other applications but Image Capture which can find its files. I have also peeked with Pacifist into the apps packages and there ins't any help file in mentioned apps.
    Can anyone help or confirm?

    HI
Control or Right Click on the Address Book Application. From the resulting menu select "Show Package Contents". You should see a folder called Contents. Look inside this folder and you should see a number of files and folders. One of them will be called Resources. Look inside this folder and you should see a plain file (ie: one with no specific icon) called AddressBook.help. On 10.6.5 it should be approx 10.6 MB in size and be version 4.0. This itself is a package and if you control or right click on the icon you should be able to select "Show Package Contents". Drill down through the resulting folder and you should see all the files and folders that make up the Help Section for address book.
If for some reason you are missing some of these files or (more likely) don't have access to them (permissions have got messed up for some reason possibly) then either repair permissions or use Pacifist to extract AddressBook from the Installer DVD to reinstall the application again. I think it's also possible to copy over a working copy that's the same version from another mac.
Most applications on OSX are 'standalone' and pretty much everything to do with that application will be contained 'within' the application itself. There are other ancillary files some applications use or even need - such as files placed in the User Library and Application Support folders - again it depends on the application. Your mileage as ever will vary.

  • How can I recover my accidentaly deleted address book?

I was working in my address book this morning and selected a contact that I wanted to delete. When I pressed the delete button, all of a sudden my entire address book dissapeared. I'm fairly sure I only selected the specific contact, but apparently somehow my entire address book got deleted with it.
I can still see the two default address books of thunderbird on the left side, but they always have been and still are empty. The third address book (the one that I've been using the past years), is completely gone.
I have tried to recover the address book in multiple ways:
    - looked in the recycle bin of my computer and of thunderbird, but there was nothing to be found in both of them
    - I used the 'undo' button about 4 to 5 times, but nothing happened unfortunately. Ctrl+z didn't give any response as well
    - I waited with closing thunderbird, untiI I looked up my Thunderbird profile in user/appdata/roaming/thunderbird/profiles/****.defaul. I copied the abook.mab file to another directory, closed thunderbird and restarted it. Unfortunately this didn't help either.
    - I've also tried to recover any deleted files on my entire computer using Recuva software. I haven't been able to find anything related to the address book thought.
Is there any way to retrieve/recover my thunderbird address book?
I haven't been able to find a good solution online as of yet. But I figure it can't just be completely gone after I've clicked teh delete button by accident, right?
I'm using thunderbird 24.4.0 on Windows 8.1. Currently I am not using a tool to synchronise the address book to my google account, because I'm working with the maillinglist and I haven't found a way to synchronise them fully. So there's no recent backup of the address book unfortunately.
I really hope you can help me with this. Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot for your fast reply!
I've tried both options you gave, but unfortunately didn't manage to restore/retrieve any data from the file. The MoreFunctionsForAddressBook add on is very user friendly however and easy to work with.
I also found a few threads that explain that it is possibe to open the original abook.mab file in a text editor and delete some entries in it, to 'turn back' the command that said to delete the addressbook in the first place.
This is the one I've found and tried to follow: http://www.pirules.org/blog/?page_id=312 and
I've played around with it a bit, and managed to retrieve the specific address I was meaning to delete at the time the whole addressbook got accidentaly deleted. I didn't manage to retrieve the full addressbook though, mostly because I have a hard time understanding the code language that is used in the file....
Could this be an option for me? And if so, how do I determine which entry to delete from the file and which one to leave alone?

  • How can I stop iCloud from uploading my iCal & Address Book: Help!

    Hi,
I just made all the updates for my iMac and iPhone. All of them.
Then I (un)checked everything but "Find my Mac/iPhone"
Dispite my settings, I can still find replicas of my iCal and Address Book in iCloud through its Safari interface.
How can I delete my iCal and Address Book from the cloud and stop iCloud from mirroring them in the cloud.

  • Time Machine backup automatically deletes address book

I accidentally deleted all contacts in address book.  When i attempt to restore the address book from time machine, the address book is restored then automatically deletes all contacts again.

In case it will help anyone else, this is the rather complicated procedure worked out with Apple Support to restore Address Book to an earlier state.  Hopefully Apple will consider a switch of some sort to restart or re-initialize the contacts which would greatly simplify the procedure.
If using iCloud, uncheck Contacts box in System Preferences>iCloud
    Quit Address Book
Restore Address Book folder in User/LIbrary/Application Support to previous version with Time Machine
Trash all Address Book preferences in User Library/Preferences
    Log Out/In or Restart
Start Address Book and verify desired address book version is now available
If not using iCloud you are done, otherwise you need to create new Address Book Folder with current file dates that contains desired previous data
First Go to Web version of iCloud Contacts and erase all contacts
From Address Book Export vCard with All Contacts
Export vCard for each manually defined group
    Quit Address Book
Trash Address Book folder in User/Library/Application Support
Trash all Address Book preferences in User Library/Preferences
    Log Out/In or Restart
Start Address Book and Import vCard with All Contacts
Import vCard for each defined group one at a time and:
Check review duplicates and keep new
Select Last Import for each group and manually assign to Group Name
Re-Check Contacts box in System Preferences>iCloud
New address book should populate to iCloud and other devices

  • Cannot Delete Address Book Contacts

I can't seem to delete some address book contacts. When I open the address book all my contacts show. But, there is no "plus" or "minus" sign anywhere in the window so I can't use them to highlight a name and simply hit "minus" to delete a name. When I right click on the name the only options it gives me are "edit card" and "export vcard". Even if I choose "edit", nothing happens. When I hightlight a name and just hit the delete or backspace key, again, nothing happens. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm having what seems to be exactly the same problem. The only thing I've discovered, if it will help someone solve this for us, is that the problem only affects one user. I have another administrator user and a guest standard user; both of them can edit, add,etc in their own Address book. I've tried everything I can think of, except for reinstalling the OS.
    Thanks.

  • Applescript to delete Address Book note

I have quite a few Address Book entries with a specific parenthetical note in the Notes field: (Priority).
I'd like to remove "(Priority)" from all the Notes while not removing anything else in Note fields. Is there an easy Applescript to do this?
    Thanks in advance.
    /rb

It appears my issue has been resolved with the help of thread you posted:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2132340
I did end up calling Apple Support to clarify the procedure so in case anyone else is having the problem, here is my version of the fix:
As always, create a backup of your current Address Book in case something goes awry.
    1. Sign out of MobileMe in your Home account.
    2. Sign in to your Guest account or create a Test account.
    3. Sign in to MobileMe in the MobileMe preference pane in the Test/Guest account.
    4. Go to the Sync pane in the MobileMe preference pane and Sync. You will receive a question as to what you want to do. I chose to Replace contacts on the computer with contacts from MobileMe.
    5. After syncing you should have an address book without the contacts that were merged from the address book you had been subscribing to.
    6. Export an address book archive (extension .abbu). Copy the resulting file to a flash drive or an external hard drive that is available.
    7. Return to your home account and Import that file to your address book. You will get a message asking you if you want to replace all the contacts with the ones you are importing. Answer yes.
    8. Quit address book and re-launch. At this point you should see all your groups and contacts without the subscription contacts that were merged and couldn't be deleted.
    9. Sign in to MobileMe and re-enable syncing.

  • How To Reinstall Deleted Address Book App?

I foolishly deleted the Address Book application after updating to 10.9, and I want it back.
The solutions I've found all involve reinstalling the OS from an install disc, which is not an option for Macbook Airs like mine.
I redownloaded the 10.8 install image, but it gives me this error on open: "OS X 10.8 cannot be installed on this computer."
Help me, Obi Wan. You're my only hope.

@mende1, donktar only wants to get a deleted app back, reverting the entire OS is overkill don't you think!?
'Address book', are you sure it wasn't called 'Contacts'? Why are you attempting to install it from 10.8? It exists in 10.9 but is called Contacts. Address book had a name change in 10.7 or 10.8 IIRC.
You should be able to install 10.9 'in place' so it restores the default apps. Just make sure you don't erase the HD once running from the installer.
Another option is to use Pacifist to extract it from the installer packages - http://charlessoft.com. I'm not sure if anyone has located which package it is stored inside for 10.9, but if you are willing to do some exploring it will be somewhere inside "Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg"
Use the Finders right click Menu > Show package contents… to find & open the InstallESD.dmg and then start
looking at the packages in Pacifist. You can extract the contents to restore the apps, I don't recommend restoring older versions of apps to newer OS's.
