Deleted App Store on iMAC!

I purchased my imac October 2010 and unknowingly deleted my App Store. I've updated my software and the App Store icon appeared in my applications; but when I clicked on it "unexpectedly quit". I reported the problem and need some assistance.

Hi,
Drag the original MAS app from the Applications folder to the Trash.
Download and reinstall from here.

  • Forgot the password to delete app store

i've made a password diffrent from my apple ID password to delete app store and other locked apps and now i forgott it. Can i reset the password?

Not without remembering it, that is what makes a password secure.
If you have Find My turned on in Settings > iCloud you can use your Apple ID and password to turn that off, and then you can restore to factory condition, that is erase all content and settings, to get rid of the other password.  There is no way to change it without having it.

  • Deleting Apps on my iMac

At the risk of sounding completely ignorant how does one delete Apps on an iMac?
    Thanks
    Scott

    Scott,
Deleting applications from an iMac is the same as any Apple computer. But… depending upon the app, there is an easy way and more involved way. Sorry for the long explanation but there are various ways to delete applications based on the app developer, the app version and your OSX version. So there isn't one answer. This will give you a number of ways to give you a good over view how:
    1. First check to see if the app you want off your computer has an "uninstall" app. This is your best option if one exists. Reason: presumably the app developer created the uninstaller to delete the obvious main app in your Applications folder, but all the sometimes many supporting files that can live in various places based on how the app was created to function. Probably all apps have supporting files in your Library > Preferences folder. Also inside our Libraries is an Application Support folder, which inside "may" have a sub-folder or just lose file(s) for the app(s) you want to delete. Inside the Library may be a folder just for your app. In mine I see: Acrobat User Data, Extensis, Google, iTunes, Snap Pro X which are all from apps on my drive. In my Application Support folder I have 106 folders corresponding to different apps that I have or have had and never deleted fully. In your Library > Preferences folder you'll see both folders or individual files for either actual apps, like Adobe Photoshop has 4 folders (like Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings, plus individual files too which look similar to: com.adobe.Photoshop.plist.
The reason I mention this is not to overwhelm you, but to advise that just deleting the application you see in your Applications folder sometimes the app has a built in delete function that when the main app is trashed, the support files are too. Other times you need to run the applications uninstaller app (if one exists) to get rid of all files associated with the app(s) you want deleted.
The good news is as others have said here, with the main app deleted the support files just lay unused and dormant and aren't large so don't take up much disk space and won't run or interfere with other apps. PERSONALLY? I like to delete all files for an application, especially ones that I may later install a later version. But again, there is little worry that old support files will interfere with later versions of the same app. But… to be fair, anything is possible, even if highly unlikely. Here are some ideas:
    2. Where to find uninstallers? There's no one spot, but some places are:
If the app is inside its own folder in Applications like Adobe often does, like: Applications > Adobe InDesign CS5 > Uninstall Adobe InDesign CS5
In the CD, DVD or .dmg install file
Your Applications > Utilities folder may have installers there. Adobe has a few, but interesting not for all or even most their apps.
In Hard Drive > Library > Application Support...
    3. Go to the website of the app and see if there is an uninstaller there for download, or directions how to manually delete all files some of which will live in some of the example places I mentioned above. Manual deleting isn't hard, and not even time consuming because there aren't that many.
    4. Library: on later OSX versions the Library was made invisible but you can still get there, but be careful going in here as you don't want to delete things you shouldn't by mistake. But it if you take care and follow directions, you'll be fine. I believe this happened with Lion (OSX 10.7). To get to the Library in Lion and later, simply go the Finder (click on your Desktop and hold down the Option key > Click the Go menu in the upper left to the right of the Apple logo:
If you release the Option key you won't see Library.
The only reason you'd go here is if you were following directions on how fully delete your application.
    5. Google Search it. "How do I completely delete Adobe Photoshop CS3 on Mavericks " for example. Try to include the app version and the OSX you are using because developers change locations for different application and OSX versions. You will usually find info on this in various forums about the app or the developer, or even here in Apple Discussions even on non Apple applications you "might" find info.
    6. Email Tech Support: the app's tech support will usually help you. Go to the app or developer of the app's website and find "Contact" or "Contact Us" and email them how to uninstall. Again, provide all the important info: app version, your OSX version.
    7. Your System Preferences. Click the Apple logo in the upper left. Sometimes in "Other" at the bottom of all the icons there may be an uninstaller, or if there's an icon for the app or the developer I've found how to uninstall apps. Not often, but sometimes over the years I have.
    8. Lastly: if you can't find an uninstaller, or directions for manual deletion, then simply drag the app in question to the trash and trash it. Make sure the app isn't running. If Trash doesn't allow you which can happen based on the app, you may have to provide your computer's password you defined when setting up your computer, unless you left that blank. Or you might simply need to restart your computer and try to empty the Trash again.
Sorry for the tonnage of info, but something in all this will point you in the direction you want depending on the developer, the app and how complete you want to uninstall the app.
I hope this is helpful to you or anyone else looking to uninstall an application.
    Steven

  • Mistakenly deleted App Store. Can you help me to recover it?

Mistakenly deleted App Store. Can you help me to recover it? It comes preloaded with OS only. Is there any installation file so that it can be again installed.

Did you just delete AppSore off the Dock?
Because it's laying in your Applications folder to be dragged back to the Dock.
Perform a #8 Reinstall Just OS X here, it replaces OS X and bundled Apple programs leaving files and third party programs alone.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
Make sure you Software Update immediatly to 10.6.8, that's what puts AppSore back on.

  • Can't access App Store, new iMac right out of box

I hate to start another one of these threads but the only thing I've done since initially booting my Mac was try to access the App Store to download Xcode. Nothing has been installed. I can get to the Internet through our guest wireless. Everything is brand new straight from Apple as of today. No antivirus. We've tried making sure the class 3 public certificates are operating by first trying to set them to "trust always" then followed another threads instructions to get them set back to autos elect. Nothing. There's nothing on the computer, (other than mountain lion and ilife i think) so there's no danger of deleting any data, but we have no discs to do any kind of repair with. Help!

    Ken ...
    Congrats on your new iMac!
Check GateKeeper for downloading apps from the App Store.
Click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click System Preferences.
Then select Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Select:  Mac App Store and identified developers
If that area is greyed out, click the padlock icon bottom left corner of the window. You may be prompted for the admin password to make changes.
Restart your iMac and try downloading Xcode.
    OS X: About Gatekeeper
but we have no discs to do any kind of repair with
New Macs no longer come with install discs. If it's necessary to reinstall OS X, repair the startup disk, or reformat, that must be done over the internet. Apple strongly recommends a broadband high speed connection.

  • App store problem after updating OS to Mavericks.  Ended up deleting app store.  How do I get it back?

I upgraded to Mavericks.  When I tried to update my apps in the appstore, I was getting prompted to enter in a password for someone else's Apple Id.  I have no idea who this person is and I could not change the ID.  I was logged into the App Store under MY id but for whatever reason when i chose to update an app, I was prompted with this person's ID. I researched this and someone in a forum suggested deleting the app and reinstalling it.  I have app zapper so I zapped the app and I no longer have an app store..  I also have no way of getting the app store back.  Apparently, it's part of Mavericks.  I cannot even reinstall Mavericks because Mavericks is only attainable through the App store.
    I have a big problem don't I?
I recovered the files that app zapper "zapped" from my trash.  They are as follows:
One "app store" folder that contains a file called: updatejournal.plist
One "AppStore" folder that contains a file called: manifest.plist
    And a file called com.apple.appstore.plist
How can I get app store working again?
And then there's the issue with this person's apple ID.  How do I get the app store to purge this person's login?  My machine is an Apple Refurbished so perhaps the person who is attached to the store is the person who bought the machine new?  I have no clue.  I do think it's a huge security flaw on Apple's part to expose a stranger's login information
    Help is immensely appreciated.
    Thanks.

There are a few things you need to do.
    A.
Remove "App Zapper" according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again.
    B.
Deleting system components is never the solution to any problem.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.
    C.
You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • Deleted app store from computer. how do i get it back.

For some idiodic reason, I decided to delete the App Store from my mac. However, it didn't fully delete and is now corrupted. I cannot download Lion unless I have the App Store back. I tried to download the update combo, but I am running 10.6.8 and not 10.6.7 which is needed to download it. Any other suggestions? I could really use the help. Thank you!

I join and celebrate this post.  I want to buy Lion OS and i can't since i don't have AppStore runnig either due to the same reason... and I have 10.6.8 also.... HELP US please, Apple Support guys

  • Looking to delete App Store

Looking for answers from someone OTHER THAN PETE, (who seems to have no life other than to troll the forums) to either help from a technical part of apple to disable certain updates that I cannot seem to turn off or a developer (or coding) for deleting useless *Required* applications.
Application Store: Briging useless applications into my world that I don't need, don't want, and won't get. Good thing it doesn't update.
Imovie: A such childish application, make my own movie. Not needed. Why must I update? Hide update is missing.
Iweb: Don't even know what it does. I've lived without it for this long, I think I can continue living without it. Hide update is missing.
Remote desktop: Work from home or, if work is boring you, play World of Warcraft from work. Can't understand why others don't see the malicious intent of software like that. Access your home computer from work? Do you really want that open to co-workers what you do in your spare time? Hide update is missing.
Thuderbolt Monitor: What exactly is a Thunderbolt Monitor? Useless to me. Hide update still missing.
Safari: Big news on safari! Y2K about to affect the world! Wait, what year is it? Slower than Netscape. Hide update never found.
If such useless applications are required for me to continually update on a daily basis, but so important that I cannot delete them, is there a way to strip all updates to these programs and replace them with the factory installed versions?
One last thing, I'm pretty sure I'm probably royally screwing up my mac by force-closing the application store as many times as I have, but I have gone so long without an application store that I shouldn't be forced into using products I don't actually need.
Also, personally, I think I'm freaking out all the people who need to say "Application Store" by using the word "Application" but that's just me.
    cheers

This forum is for questions about the iTunes Store. Since your question seems to have nothing to do with the iTunes Store but rather is about OS X 10.9 and the Mac App Store, I'd suggest you ask for assitance in the OS X 10.9 Mavericks forum.
None of the applications you mention require updating on a daily basis, by the way. If you are updating but then being presented with the update yet again, that's something wrong with your system and not a normal occurence. Someone in the OS X 10.9 forum should be able to help you sort that out.
    Regards.
