Deleted Applications folder

Hi, I deleted the Applications folder, even from my Trash. Help!

You probably need to re-install. Do an Archive and Install Preserving Users and Network Settings. Follow this article for an explanation of what it does --
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545
Click the blue Archive and Install link in that article (2nd section) to go to the article that tells you how to do it. Make sure you backup any data first. An Archive and Install Preserving should not erase any of your data, but better safe than sorry.

  • Time machine deleted applications folder after restoring files

my macbook 13 inch black would not start up. grey progress bar then would shutdown.
Used time machine to restore my files. Time machine has deleted my applications folder after restoring files. how do I get them back.

Depending on how you restored your data, Time Machine may not recognize your previous backups as belonging to the same machine. It will then delete as many snapshots as necessary to make room for a full backup of all files. Once the snapshots are deleted, they can't be recovered.
Another time, when you erase the boot volume, restore from Time Machine in Setup Assistant so that your backup history will be preserved.
As this experience shows, you need more than one backup to be safe. I suggest you start a new backup set on another, larger, external drive.

  • Can't delete application folder?

    To Whom It May Concern,
Last night, I installed a software just to try it out, but it was having problems running under 10.2.8, so I decided to uninstall it and load the beta instead. I loaded the beta version, but it was not performing well either. I decided to delete the folder, but I couldn't. It said, "This operation could not be completed because this item is owned by root." Please help! The computer I'm using is an iMace flat panel, superdrive, 512Mb, G4 800Mhz, 60 Gig drive. Also, I can't seem to verify, or repair permissions using Disk Utility.
    Sincerely,
    Arnold Pena

    Hello Arnold,
Of course we are speaking here of the software you just tried, not the whole "Applications" folder:
Force-deleting files or folders that refuse to let you do it as usual, can be done using such utility as TinkerTool System for example (go to section Files > Force Delete).
The best is to get rid of every hidden files it could have left on your hard drive in some cases. Use the Finder's Find (⌘F) feature to find them (search for visible AND invisible files) and drag them to the Trash, directly from the Search Results window.
If you use Tiger, Find (⌘F) won't find them all: you'll have to use EasyFind.
Delete only the files that really belong to your trial software: be careful as sometimes names are close, but may belong to your system...
(It would be easier to simply name which software was it that refused to be deleted?)
    Good luck!

  • Deleted applications folder in dock - how do I get it back??

    Hello
The applications stack in my dock has disappeared, can you help me get it back? If i drag in an alias of the applications folder it opens in finder, but i want to have it like the default.
    thanks all

If you put your Applications folder, not an alias, in the Dock (on the right part of the dock, you should get a stack of the applications popping up when you click on it. If you dropped an alias, this is no good, it will open Applications folder.

  • Pages 4.3 (332MB) and Pages 5.0 (455MB) are both installed on my macbook, can I delete Pages 4.3 from my application folder?

Pages 4.3 (332MB) and Pages 5.0 (455MB) are both installed on my macbook, can I delete Pages 4.3 from my application folder?
I recently (after upgrading to Mavericks) installed Pages 5.0 (iWorks ’09 with Pages 4.3 was already installed on my Macbook). When I try to open a pages document, I sometimes get the message 'you need a newer version of Pages to open this document.'  When I ctrl-click the pages document and select the program Pages 5.0, the document opens in Pages '05. Other Pages documents open in Pages 4.3. How do I select Pages 5.0 as default program to open my documents? And how do I do that, since pages preferences do not give that possibility? And can I delete pages 4.3 after making pages '05 the default. Or is there another way to solve this?
    kind regards, Sadrach

Using Get Info to change all documents to open with Pages 4.3 doesn't work. It will work on individual files, but that could be a lot of files to reset.
This is what works for me. After I installed the new iWork updates I created a folder on an external drive & named it "other applications." I then moved the new iWork apps to this folder & renamed the applications Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. I have icons for two versions of Pages & Numbers (I rarely use Keynote) in my Dock. Even with two versions of Pages & Numbers running, double-clicking an existing file opens in Pages 4.3 or Numbers 2.3. This should also keep the Mac App Store from nagging you to update. Others have renamed the '09 iWork apps & set them as default.

  • Deleting applications not in applications folder

I have download a small program called TVU player and wish to delete it but it is not in the applications folder where I could simply drag it to the trash but it seems spread around. It seems to be mostly in User/shared/TVU networks. How can I safely delete it?

According to the package, it installs in a tvutuneworks folder in the Applications folder and a webplugin in the /Library/Internet Plug-ins folder. There is also a library added to support tcl in sqlite, but you can leave that alone.
If you say the tvutuneworks folder was in your Shared folder, that is likely because you chose the Shared folder as the install location.

  • I have purchased a new iMac, with Safari 5.0.5, but it won't retain bookmarks, I thought I can download a new Safari from Apple. So I deleted Safari from the application folder.

I have purchased a new iMac, with Safari 5.0.5, but it won't retain bookmarks, I thought I can download a new Safari from Apple. So I deleted Safari from the application folder.
Then I tried to download Safari from Firefox but after finish download, what I got was a dmg file, with a pkg icon (an opened box) and it can't be installed. Same with Google Chrome.
My question is: how can I download Safari? And will it retain bookmarks?

Reinstall Safari from the Optional Installs.pkg on your Mac install disc that came with your iMac. Or in your case, you use Pacifist to extract the Safari app from the .dmg file.
    To bookmark a webpage:
Go to the webpage you want to bookmark. If you use tabs, you can open multiple webpages in tabs to bookmark them as a collection.
Choose Bookmarks > Add Bookmark, or Bookmarks > “Add Bookmarks for These Tabs.”
Type a name for the bookmark or collection in the dialog that appears.
Specify where you want to keep the bookmark or collection. You can add it to the bookmarks bar, the Bookmarks menu, or to a collection if you have created any.
    Click Add.
To add a bookmark quickly, click the Add button in the toolbar, or drag the webpage’s icon from the address field to the bookmarks bar.
To see your bookmarks, choose Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks.
In the future, rather then deleting an app, come here and ask for help first. More times then not, you will save yourself time and trouble.

  • I deleted my applications folder.  How do I get it back?

I accidently deleted my applications folder.  How do I get it back in my dcok?

Simmply either search applications in spotlight (magnification glass in right top hand corner, and click and drag the folder onto your dock, or open up finder and the folder should be on the directory on the left and you click and drag the folder onto your dock.

I installed google chrome and added it to my applications folder and it works but my desktop still has the icon of the chrome volume/disk and when i right click it gives an option to eject but it will not delete how can I get rid of it?

Drag it to the trash icon in your dock.  This is a disk image, and you need to "eject" it, to get rid of it.

  • I'm trying to delete multiple pix in iPhoto that i stupidly made duplicates of without knowing, I've tried going into the applications folder and using image capture but i think I've missed a step , can anyone send the correct info / steps pls thanks

I'm trying to delete multiple pix in iPhoto that i stupidly made duplicates of without knowing, I've tried going into the applications folder and using image capture but i think I've missed a step , can anyone send the correct info / steps pls thanks

again image capture is not involved with deleting photos from iPhoto in any way ever
the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager is very good for finding duplicates as is Duplicate Annihilator
And I have no idea who told you this - or what it means - but re-read both of my opening statements
I was told I could delete multpiles thru image capture by transferring my iPhoto library etc

  • My application folder got deleted need to replace

I DELETED MY APPLICATION FOLDER   HOW CAN I GET IT BACK

If you have truly deleted your Applications folder, rather than just the icon from the dock, you will need to reinstall your applications — each and every one of them. However, if you're posting from your computer, I'd say you haven't really deleted the Applications folder, or you wouldn't have been able to access this forum. If you're posting from a different source, of course, all bets are off.
If you do need to re-create your Applications folder, do you have a backup? If so, just restore to your hard drive from that.
To reinstall your applications without a backup, if that is necessary, it would be easiest to start by reinstalling your OS; that will give you the built-in applications. Be sure to apply all updates, too. After that, you will need to reinstall all third-party apps, either by means of CDs or DVDs that they may be stored on, or by means of downloads from the internet.

  • Application folder deleted on the User page?

I installed Steam for Mac some time ago, and when I installed a game, the icon for it would appear on the Application folder, but making the other apps on the folder disappear, but were still on a computer. And I'm portuguese, so "Aplicações" means Apps. The folder was originally called "Aplicações", but when I installed the game, it was renamed to "Applications", to English! So I renamed it to "Aplicações", but the other apps were still missing, so I deleted it, which = I'm a jack*ss... So I created a shortcut folder, but it has the shortcut arrow on the icon and doesnt have the drop down arrow:
What do I do to make it as it was before? Thanks...

The Applications folder created by default in your user Home folder - i.e. "bootdrive -> Users -> yourusername -> Applications" - is not the same folder as the Applications folder at the root of the hard drive, nor it is an alias to that root Applications folder. The Applications folder in the user's Home folder is a separate folder, provided for use by the user, if he/she wishes/ for applications that do not insist on being in the root Applications folder. It allows such apps to be restricted to being seen and used only by that user.
If Steam installed in the Applications folder in your Home folder and you deleted that Applications folder, just create a new folder (if you think you still need it) in your Home folder and name the new folder however you wish.
    Regards.
