You may be able to pull the data from the chatsync folder amongst the garbage. You can try to open up the dat files and use a text/ASCII editor to view the contents. If you know what you deleted then search for some of the key words or phrases. If it's present there, then you may be able to retrieve it. Contact disappeared from iPhone but not deleted from Address Book on sync

FYI, I have an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.2 (the latest), and I have never so much as thought about MobileMe.
Until two days ago, I have had no reason to doubt that my iPhone's Contact list is the same as my MacBook's Address Book list. I now have no confidence that the same info. exists in both: I know for sure that at least one contact long present in both has disappeared from the iPhone, yet syncing all contacts neither returns it to the iPhone nor deletes it from Address Book! I need help troubleshooting this contact as well as verifying that there aren't other similar anomalies corrupting my data, hopefully without manually comparing all 685 entries...
Two days ago, a certain number, let's call it (310) 555-5555, popped up in my recents list as a missed call and in my visual voicemail. When I listened to the voicemail, I discovered that (310) 555-5555 was Jane Smith. I remembered entering Jane Smith several months ago, so I thought hmmm, does she have a second number? I tried to add (310) 555-5555 to an existing entry, only to find my iPhone had no entry for Jane Smith anymore at all! I did not delete her myself, and I'm not aware of any 3rd-party app that ought to have affected the entry. I haven't called Jane Smith or (310) 555-5555 in quite some time, so I have no idea how long the entry may have been missing. I searched the whole phone (left of the first home screen)
At the next opportunity, I looked in Address Book on my laptop, and indeed found the expected entry for Jane Smith, (310) 555-5555. I have no idea how she disappeared from my iPhone -- did I or some third-party program delete her? Or did it happen through some sync issue? -- but I naturally worried that when I next synced, the deletion would sync, too, and I would lose the Address Book entry, leaving me without Jane Smith's number at all.
Such an event would defeat the entire purpose of backing up my phone contacts to my computer; I just moved to iPhone this spring after being a Palm user since 1997, and the idea that iPhone might not be reliably syncing my contacts is frankly terrifying. I checked and saw that my Address Book listed 685 contacts to iPhone Contacts's 684, so I decided to risk a sync in hopes that maybe I had caused a one-off deletion. I wrote down Jane Smith (310) 555-5555 just in case and hit sync.
The results of the sync and my subsequent troubleshooting have seriously undermined my confidence in the fidelity of the sync process. The first time, nothing changed--I still had 684 iPhone, no Jane Smith, and 685 Address Book, including Jane Smith.

Before conecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically". Now connect your phone and when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar click on its name. Go to the Info tab and confirm than your have checked Sync Contacts with Address Book. Now further down on the Info tab under Advanced>Replace information on this iPhone check Contacts. Click Apply and sync your phone. This will replace the contacts on your phone with the contacts in Address Book. (When complete you can go back to iTunes preferences and uncheck "Prevent..." to re-establish automatic syncing if your prefer this.)

How do I get my library back if it's been deleted?

My iPhoto library has disappeared and I have no back up.
When I started iPhoto it said I didn't have a library and gave me two options to 'create library' or 'find library'
Tried looking for Library6 using Find Any File, but it won't open and is not big enough to be my full library. Help! I don't think iPhoto has been updated lately, but iTunes has.
It's a MAC OS X 10.6.8

Thank you for your response. I did not delete it myself, but it has disappeared and cannot be found anywhere. I'm not sure if it happened after an update and is similar to problems other people have had. I found this in one of the other discussions, but I don't want to harm the mac more. Do you think it is wise to do this? I did the find and found an alias HD file. What is it?

if you do a
Finder> Go> Go to Folder
enter /Volumes in the search box
Click Go
You should get a list of Volumes the machine knows about.
I deleted the Macintosh HD alias file listed, and magically iPhoto Library reappeared and iPhoto worked normally.

well, i have the ios7 and recently i updated it once more and now my father is recieving all my imessages on his ipad. How can i delete the messages off his ipad without physically deleting them myself? i do not understand why this is happening because he is not checked in the send and recieve section

You can't delete them without doing so on his iPad.
It's probably happening because you are sharing the same ID for iMessage. To prevent it, one of you needs to go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID. (You can continue to share the same ID for iTunes.)

Time Machine: "Partially Deleted Backup"

Last night, after Time Machine performed a backup and began its post-backup thinning, it got stalled on "Finishing backup... ." The system log showed that it was attempting to delete a previously partially deleted backup:
Starting standard backup
Starting post-backup thinning
Found partially deleted backup - trying again to delete: 2009-09-30-110803
The backup it was trying to delete was the last one on its list (i.e., the oldest one on that TM volume). And when I opened it up, it indeed appeared to be a partially deleted folder. So I let TM run. However, it never finished "Finishing backup... ," so after letting it run all night and all day, I simply told TM to stop. It did, and the system then added two more messages to the log, acknowledging my cancelation as well as TM's current success:
Starting standard backup
Starting post-backup thinning
Found partially deleted backup - trying again to delete: 2009-09-30-110803
Backup deletion was canceled by user
Backup completed successfully.
However, the next time TM ran, it began all over again:
Starting standard backup
Starting post-backup thinning
Found partially deleted backup - trying again to delete: 2009-09-30-110803
It's still sitting there in its "Finishing backup..." mode.
I was thinking about entering Time Machine, selecting that backup, and telling Time Machine to delete that backup—and only that backup. But I'm (a) not sure that will address the actual problem, and (b) wondering if deleting that particular backup (i.e., the oldest one on the list) is advisable.
Suggestions?

It took forever. I ran TechTool Pro, and it "choked" (i.e., ran out of memory) trying to rebuild the directory. When I asked Disk Warrior to graph the directory, it revealed that it was more than 40% fragmented!

Great! And yes, there are times it can repair/rebuild TM backups that nothing else can (I guess that's why it costs $100!).
I'm obviously quite pleased with the results: Not only did DW perform an incredible directory rebuild (fragmentation went from more than 40% to less than 1% !!) but it cleared out the partially deleted backup that was causing TM to stumble. But I remain awfully curious: Had I simply gone into Time Machine and deleted the partially deleted backup myself, wouldn't that have fixed the problem? (Granted, DW not only got TM back on track, but it also rebuilt its directory, which is a definite plus in my mind...I'm just trying to understand.)
It's possible you couldn't have deleted it completely, any more than TM was able to. Remember, a single backup folder has hard links to hundreds, thousands, or hundreds of thousands of other items. Just one of those being screwy can have a ripple effect through the whole structure.
And if you could have, it might well have left some of the actual backup files "abandoned" -- some or all of the hard links to them deleted, but still somewhere in the disk directory, so still taking up space.

Admittedly, mine wasn't an "error: 11" problem, but it sure seemed similar. My hesitation/concern was due to the fact that the partially deleted backup was the last one (i.e., the "oldest") in my TM volume: I wasn't sure if deleting it would screw up all of the links used by the remaining backups. However, since DW removed it without causing any problems, it seems like I may have been able to accomplish the same result by removing it "manually" from within TM. If that is the case, then it suggests that there may not have been any actual "corruption."
Again, I am very happy with the result, and likely will resort to DW again the next time I have similar problems. The only reason I'm harping on it is simply to try to gain a deeper understanding of how to determine when such problems are indeed due to corruption as opposed to simply an errant file that causes TM to stumble. (Had TM indicated that it stumbled and was unable to successfully perform the backup, then I would have little doubt that there was actual corruption.)

Adobe Draw on Ipad deleted work on Ipad

Draw usualy automatically saves work but when I changed the screen to change my music it deleted three hours worth of work,since I didnt delete it myself, adobe shut down. Can I get it back?

Sorry to hear about the lost work. Draw should have saved your current drawing when you hit the home button to switch apps. In the next version of Draw, we have fixed a handful of crashers. We have also beefed up our crash recovery so that if the app still happens to crash, we are more likely to recover your lost work rather than lost it in the ether.

IPhone 4S deletes random notes

About a month ago my phone randomly deleted a recipe I had put in my notes. iCloud added it to my iPad so I recovered it and stored it in my email. But when I put it back on my iphone, within a few days it deleted itself again. I haven't put it back on since then. Two days ago I had about 4-5 new notes, one was another recipe and like two grocery lists. Today I look at my notes and my new notes are gone! So! What did I do? Why I went to my iPad of course, but the moment I go to it, for a split second I have my notes, then it updates and removes the deleted notes. What is going on?? I haven't deleted anything myself! Any insight would be great. I haven't hooked my phone to iTunes in quite a while so I imagine these are not attainable again? These notes weren't too important but I fear the day it will delete something I really need!
By the way, I apologize if this has been an issue in the past that I have overlooked in searching.

I have this same problem. While I haven't figured out a way to prevent the notes from being deleted yet, I did find a way to recover them. Do you have your iPhone connected to your laptop through iCloud or anything? I know you said you don't have it hooked up to iTunes, but that's not the only way. My phone wirelessly backs up to my email, so it sends my notes as emails to my address. When they get deleted, I just go online and email them back to myself so I can copy and paste them back into Notes. Huge pain in the rear, but at least I have my notes back :/ This seems to be a common issue, so hopefully someone can find a fix soon!

you can do it, but how to do it depends on how you have email set up on your pc and on your phone, and what type of phone you have. for example, i use outlook on my pc for all of my email accounts. i have it set in the options to leave a copy of the email on the server when i delete an email. i also have an option on my phone the is NOT checked, that says "delete mail on server." this way, i can delete emails from the pc or the phone, and they stay on the server and the other device. to delete them from both, i have to actually delete them myself from both, the pc and my phone. different email clients and different phones are set up a bit differently, but they should all have some variations of a setting to leave a copy on the server after deleting it on the respective device.
edit: one other box i left unchecked on my phone is "sync deleted item from server" (this also removes messages from the phone when deleted from the server, the next time it syncs).

Messages deleting on their own

i noticed that after I updated my phone to the iOS8.3, my iMessages with people have been deleting within a few hours without me deleting them myself. However, my text messages from a month ago remain. I have my setting set so I can keep messages forever, but it obviously isn't working.

Ok, according to that, you're at 30.5 MB of free memory, so that shouldn't be the problem after all. There are a couple of other possible culprits, including corrupted databases (the most likely problem) or even a corrupted OS.
You can deal with the above issues in two ways, but regardless, before you start, make sure you back up your device memory first using the BlackBerry Desktop Software as both things will delete all of the data on the device.
The first option you can try is simply a handheld wipe. You can enable this by going to Options > Security Options > Security Wipe and wipe all of the data off the device (you can leave the media card intact). It may be slightly different on your device depending on your OS version. If the above option is not present, then you want to go to Options > Security Options > General Settings, press the BB Menu button, click on Wipe Handheld and when prompted, type blackberry to initiate the wipe.
The second option is more drastic, but it's also more thorough and more likely to resolve the issue the first time, and that's to reload the OS on the device. Once the wipe or OS reload is complete, simply restore your backed up data (to be safe, you can also just try manually restoring only the databases you need, such as contacts, calendar, etc using an advanced restore).

Z10 photos deleted..Recovery??

I had 700 pictures in my phone and all have been erased. I have not deleted any myself...have no idea how? Is there anyway that I could possibly recover them? Please help..

Does safari on iphone 4 delete history itself?

On my ipod touch my history on safari stays there untill i delete it myself .. for months on end . Im wanting to know is this the same with safari on iphone 4 ? will it keep all your history unless you clear it yourself?

As far as I can tell on my device there is no pre-determined span of time that Safari will keep the back log of search history. So my answer is yes however I have changed devices in the past 3 months so I have no way to test the time span.

How tro Keep Video Podcast Until I Want to Delete It?

I once had my podcast set to delete after I watched the episode, but I now have a video podcast on my 3d gen Nano and other podcasts that I do not want to be removed until I do it manually. I don't remember how I set this up originally, and would appreciate any help in telling me how to automatically download new episodes but keep them (even after they'be been watched) until I decide to delete them myself. If the podcast doesn't appear in iTunes, is there another place where it can be seen in order to delete it? I'm having the same problem with my iPod Touch. I don't see the podcast in either the left drop-down list or in the list under the podcast tab where you can sync selected items (but I do see more recently downloaded podcasts in both locations and I can delete them). The podcast I want to delete is still on my iPod, but that's the only place where I can see it.

Downloads disappear from box after completion. (2nd try, I screwed up the first - sorry)

When I perform a web download, the download box opens and one sees the download progress, however the box empties out after the download completes, (pdf or exe files). I now have to search out the file do do anything with it such as run it. It never used to be that way, the box always showed downloads done that day. .exe files go to downloads and pdf files go to a temp file deep in my user folder chain. I assume that they get cleaned out when the computer is shut down. I wish to permanently save all downloaded files unless deliberately deleted by myself. pdf files do open in Nitro, (which I far prefer to either Foxit which gave me a hard time and the ever bulky Acrobat Reader). How can I return to the original operation of the Downloads box?

I appreciate the help. I knew it had to be in there somewhere but there are too many boxes to check! Firefox shouldn't really have changed my options when I updated it without my knowledge and permission.
