Deleted commercials from video in QT7 but converted to AVI they are back

First, I recorded an old foreign movie to the TiVo, then transferred it to my Mac, and tried to edit and burn it with Toast 10. The sound wasn't right. Eventually, I was able to convert the video to a QuickTime .mov file. I then used the QT7.6.6 editing controls to delete the commercials and save it so I had the whole movie as a .mov file. I then was able to use Toast to burn that to a DVD, but one problem was that there is a white wavy line at the top of the whole movie that drives you nuts. Apparently, I cannot crop a video with Toast, so I used the saved QuickTime .mov file to convert to an .AVI video using PavTube. It let me crop just the top of the video. The video came out fine except the commercials are back. I don't see any way to crop a video with QT or Toast. Is it possible to get a cropped AVI video without the commercials?

In Quicktime if you cut parts and just save it, vs. Save As a self contained file under a new file name the content is still in the file , and QT just knows not to show it. I guess when you worked with it again those cuts were lost.
Open the source, cut out the cruft, save as a new file name and as a self contained file and you have a whole new file minus that stuff, forever. Use that in Toast or whatever but you won't have the cut parts coming back (like the cat).
When you save as with less material you'll see the file size gets smaller since there is less material.

Copying files is not a good idea.
The "other Mac" was backed up onto Time Capsule using the Time Machine. On your new Mac you should restore the old user - rather than copy files manually.
This usually happens during the initial setup of the new computer or you can do it later using Migration Assistant.
Please note, it is possible to damage backup file on the Time Capsule when you browse it and copy files manually.

There are no carrier supported texting plans for Ipads.
Imessage uses Apple servers and only supports ios devices.

I am afraid not.
Photo Stream is a sync tool and not a backup solution.
If you change the Photo Stream on one device it pushes those changes to all devices.

I accidentially deleted podcasts from 2010. I want to retrieve them, they are no longer available on line.

I was in ITunes, in my Podcasts list. I hit the icon (semicircle, with an arrow pointing clockwise) and all my podcasts were deleted. They were also deleted from my IPod. The podcasts were from 2010 and are no longer available in ITunes. Is there any way to retreive them?

You need to LOCK your SD card (little slide switch) before connecting to the Mac or it tries to write a file on it and will overwrite some of your data your trying to recover.

Yes, that is correct. The alternative is to quit all applications prior to logging out. Lion will then have a chance to remove the saved states.

At the present time, the only way to clear that is to restore the phone as new. Perhaps a future iOS update will give us the option to clear that cache.

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer. As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you. I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.

Safari can not be deleted from the iPhone, but can be restricted.

A better solution is if your email provider uses IMAP. IMAP sync email folders between multiple devices. Meaning any device will receive the email, all sent email can be seen on the devices. If you delete email from one device the email is deleted from all the other devices. Check with your email provider to see if they offer IMAP services.
If they do not your choices are to 1) configure email on the PC to keep Mail on the mail server or 2) change email providers to something like Gmail or Outlook.com (as examples). FWIW I use Cox IMAP email and fully sync email between a Win 8.1 Update 1 laptop, a Win 7 desktop, an iPad 4, an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5S.

Sounds like your friend didn't disable iMessage on his/her iphone before switching. Have your friend do the following:
Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
Click on "edit products"
Click on the "x" to the right of his/her old iPhone.
Click "unregister"
This should unregister it with the iMessage server, which will allow you to send texts as normal SMS.
On your iPhone make sure you have Settings>Messages>Send As SMS set to ON.

Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.

Check to make sure that Contacts is toggled on to sync by going to Settings > iCloud. Also go to iCloud.com to see if the contacts are showing up there to see if it syncing those contacts.
