Deleted contact groups still in iPod sync pane?

This issue recently showed up..
When I sync my iPod Touch with iTunes, in the sync pane (the place where you choose what you want to sync), in the contacts section there is a group "Family", even though it isn't in my Address Book - I deleted it. There isn't any way to get rid of it. So when I sync, an empty group shows up on my iPod.
Does anyone else have this problem??

  • How to delete contact groups from iPhone

I have a peculiar problem. While buying iPhone 4 - the vendor helped me transferrng my contacts from Nokia to iPhone 4. I have noticed that some unwanted groups exist without any contact nos.
I am unable to delete them now.
I have transferred all the contacts ( or synchronised) with outlook 2002 installed in my PC.
Can you please guide me how to delete these unwanted groups and only keep my contacts.

Sorry, I don't use Outlook, but the requirements for syncing contacts with outlook are at least version 2003. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
Did you use the build in help feature in outlook to find out how to delete a group?

  • Deleting contact groups -

Does anyone know how to delete unwanted, empty contact groups from an Iphone 3GS? They are appearing on my phone, but are not in my contacts list in outlook (Windows 7). I think they were downloaded from my husband's computer.

I have found the solution!!! I downloaded "GContact lite" on ITunes (free) and followed the instructions - it worked!!!!!!

  • Old contact groups still appear in bluetooth sync options

Through the settings on my iPhone I can select a specifc group to also sync to my car via bluetooth.  However, in the list of groups I see several choices that are no longer valid in my addressbook.
    Correct list:
    All Contacts
    Businesses
    Doctors
    Resturants
    List that appears on iPhone:
    All Contacts
    Businesses
    Cell Phone
    Doctors
    Doctors
    Resturants / Stores
    Resturants
How do I reset this list?  Where are the old groups coming from?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
I would like to create two folders - one for me and one for my wife. So under 'My Contacts' in Outlook 2010 it looks like this:
    Suggested contacts
    Contacts
    Suggested contacts (email address)
    Simon's contacts
    Julie's contacts
iTunes has picked up these sub-folders - THANKS!
However, I would like to keep the 'Contacts' folder with all the contacts in and only copy selected contacts from there and place them into my wife's folder and mine. The 'copy' function does not seem to work.
Obviously my contacts are different to my wife's and she does not want hundreds of names on her contact list.
So, basically how do I copy contacts without moving them out of the contacts folder and manually typing them all back in my wife's folder (some contacts we both need)?
Hope you can help on this one.
    Many thanks,
    Simon

  • HT4993 Deleted Contacts are still showing when compossing a TXT.

I have deleted several contact or updated there phone numbers. The deleted and old phone numbers are still showing when I send a text message. I have cleared all information from my synced accounts. I do not understand why this is so complicated. I have read online that this is an issue and do not understand why Apple does not fix this. I cant wait do dump this phone and go back to Google.

I have exactly the same issue - ex girlfriends, old bosses, previous numbers long update all still show up. As far as i can tell from all the other forums kicking around the only way to do it is to reset to fatory settings and set your phone up again as a new iPhone and there is NO WAY i'm doing that.
I can't believe they haven't fixed it yet...maybe the new OS will sort it

  • HT4528 Old deleted contact numbers still popping up

I am a teacher. Each school year, I put my students' contact information for their parents in my phone starting with their class number. However, when I go to contact my current students this year by searching by number, last year's student, under that number, automatically comes up and this is becoming confusing. Also, if a student's phone number changes and I delete that phone number, it will still pop up as "other". Sometimes I accidently choose the old number. How can I permanently delete old contact phone numbers off my iphone?
    Thanks,
    Michelle

It's there because it is in the most recent contacts - you should be able when you type the first letter in a text - scroll down and if there is a blue circle I click on that  - then click on remove from recents.

  • Computer crashed, lost all itunes but they are still on IPOD- sync trouble

My computer crashed and I lost everything including my itunes library- luckily all my music is on my ipod. I found the latest itunes and installed it and then found I had to register the computer for itunes which I did. There is an option to tranfer purchases (which I assume means transfer them from my ipod to my computer) but every time I try this the whole thing freezes. Also the computer appears to sometime have trouble recognising the ipod- when I try to access the USB through my computer is says there is no disk. It appears I can't put any new songs on until I sync the ipod- but my only options appear to be sync and erase and I will lose hundreds of dollars of music.

    Welcome to AD!
Is your PC authorized for the itunes store? If so, when you connect your ipod, you should see a message about transferring purchases. Here is a screenshot of that message

Clearly, you DO NOT want to push the "erase and sync" button!

  • Deleting Stubborn Contact Group from iPhone

I created a new Group in my contacts on MobileMe and it was synced to my iPhone 3G just fine and it also appeared in my contacts on the Mac. I then deleted the Group on MobileMe and (there were no contact in it) and it was also deleted from my Mac. However, no matter what I do, I can not get that Group name to delete itself from the iPhone for some reason. Everything else is syncing just fine.
Is there a way to delete contact groups directly from the iPhone? The group does not exist anymore on MobileMe or in my contacts on the Mac.

    Hi prosumer,
One thing to try that might help out.
Go to settings > mail, contacts, calendars > your mobile me account.
Here you will be able to turn off contact syncing.
This will remove the contacts and groups from your iphone.
Wait for a few minutes, then turn contact syncing back on.
It will take a few minutes to sync back, based on the amount of contacts you have.
    Hope this helps.

  • Contact groups on the E61i Contact is unassigned when isync is run.

So it seems that whenever you update a contact in Address Book that's in a contact group when it's synced back to the phone it will no longer appear in that group.
    Anybody else noticed this?

Just to give an update, I did get the problem fixed
In the computer I exported address book
when in to home>Library>App Support>Address book>deleted all in there.
then home>Library>preference>deleted all in there related to Address book.
The first time I did this I had exported all of the groups also, then after doing the above
reimported everything including the groups, and ended up with double groups, but they only showed when I connectedthe iphone to iTunes in the information area.
Looking in Address Book on the computer there was just one group not two of each.
So redid the above and did not reimport any of the groups,
just rebuilt them, connected iphone and itunes all turned out well

  • Deleted Contacts show up when trying to send a Text Message.

I have deleted contacts that still show when I try to send text messages out.Their name still appears even when they are deleted in my contacts. I've tried countless methods but nothing works. It won't go away. It's a huge problem for me and a lot of other people that I've talked to. Does anyone know how to fix this?

That is a last resort for me. I've done it before but I don't want to do it again. Why can't apple just make this problem disappear?

  • Contacts created on iPhone not syncing

I've noticed that if I create a contact on my iPhone, that content doesn't sync to the other address books. So everything looks fine on my phone: I can see their name in Messages, for instance.
But when I move to my desktop Mac, I can see only the phone number in Messages, the contact doesn't appear in Contacts, etc. If I go the other way and create on my computer, it's properly synced to the other devices.
I have multiple mail/contact profiles/accounts (several Gmail accounts, my work account, etc.) on my phone. It's almost like the contacts are getting "assigned" to my work account rather than my main Apple ID account, so they are fine on the phone, but aren't part of the Apple ID sync.. so to spe

You need to move the contacts to the correct contact group for them to sync. The factory Contacts app does not provide a way to do this; you need a 3rd party app such as Speed Names, which lets you assign contacts to a group and to move contacts between groups.
You can go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendars and scroll down to Contacts. Make sure the default account is iCloud so new contacts will go to a group that syncs.

  • Syncing to selected contact group wants to delete files outside of it

    Hello -
I am trying to sync my iPhone contacts to my address book in a specific way. In my address book, I have my personal contacts - friends and family. I also have mailing list subscribers (which gets into the 1,000s - people with whom I am not personally connected). I copied all of my personal contacts into a separate group and selected that group under the iPhone sync options in iTunes. I also checked the box marked "add contacts created outside of groups in this iPhone to" and again chose the special "personal contacts only" group.
However, when I go to actually sync, I get a pop-up box saying that so many contacts will be added (to my laptop), so many contacts will be modified, and so many contacts will be deleted. Which ones are getting deleted? All the ones that are not on my phone, so basically all of my mailing list, non-personal contacts.
Isn't the point of syncing specific contact groups so that you can have your phone dialogue with that particular folder and nothing else - leaving anything outside of that folder alone?
Just to test it out though, I changed the sync setting to "all contacts" to see what would happen, and I get the same message (it's basically going to delete anything that's on my laptop, but not currently on my phone). Why does this happen? Isn't the whole idea of synchronization that the two devices end up having the same file lists? How can I get the iPhone to populate any contacts I added on it to a specific group on my laptop, and vice versa. Seems like they should populate each others lists with missing pieces, rather than one taking the other one over and deleting, well, anything (unless I tell it to).
And no, I do not have any of the advanced overwrite functions enabled.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem? I'd like to sync my contacts, but obviously don't need 2,000 names of people I don't personally know taking up space on my phone.
Thanks for any advice you all can provide!

I think MobileMe is all or nothing--I asked a chat agent a few months back, and that was the case, haven't seen any reports or UI changes.
Send them feedback--it would be great to select Groups and Calendars.

  • Deleting Empty Contact Group? iCloud contact syncing issues.

I have two contact groups on my iPhone with no contacts in them.  How do I delete them from my iPhone?  They are annoying. I have read multiple threads on this topic and still can't figure it out.
Also, after backing up to iCloud - not one of my 84 contacts actually backed up?  Is there some setting I am missing? Only one contact showed up and it was my own name and email address?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

Best way is to use a 3rd party app managing groups. Easy Group is a free one I have developped.
Launch it, all your groups will automatically appear
    Tap on "Edit"
Tap on red cross next to the groups you want to delete
