Deleted documents in Pages

Hi there, I am using Mavericks and the latest version of Pages with iCloud. I wanted to send in word format my document created in pages on my Mac but sent another open document instead and the other document has completely disappeared. Any idea what happened? I have checked the Trash but it was not there also I could not find it in iCloud.
It would be very important to recover the document I hope that someone can help me.

Dear Peter,
it is Pages 5.1. the thing is that I was in a hurry in the morning and wanted to send the document to my office computer where I use word. Therefore I have not cosed the document in pages but have chosen the sharing option and then sending a copy via e-mail, in word format. anyway i received in my office mailbox another document which was also open, so I probably clicked on the wrong one but when I tried to find the document I did want to send it was not there, also I could not find it in iCloud or on my iPad. That is why I think I might have deleted it but when I tried to find it on my Mac i Finder I could not get it (not even in the trash.
hanks very much if you have any idea
Zsolt

On a mac, when you save docs to icloud, a local copy is also saved.  It's saved at:
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
If the file(s) are no longer there, then use your Time Machine backups to get copies back to the mac.

Is there any way to recover deleted documents in pages, or off of icloud?

Youi can look in the Trash. If it hasn't been emptied, the file may still be there.

  • Deleting 'document' from Pages

Can someone tell me how to delete a "file" in pages (08)?  I can delete text but need to remove the entire document/file.  Any help is appreciated.

Close it in Pages, locate it in the Finder(the default save location is the Documents folder in the Finder's sidebar or Dock), and delete that file.

    Thanks Peter,
Yes, I just wanted to tell Jerrold that I tried his suggestion and it worked.  I tried many times until I came across his suggestion.  As far, as my comment about the points, I thought there was a way to rate the responses and the person providing the response would receive some points from Apple.  (See the Legend banner above discussing points).  If I am correct in this assessment, I just wanted to ensure he got credit for solving my problem.
Have a great day!  Thanks for responding!

    Lora,
I appreciate the feedback. The Points issues aside, if you had posed your question in a new thread, your use of the Solved tag would alert others searching the Discussions that you had a positive result. This thread, Marilyn not having marked it, doesn't stand out as a solved one. Maybe Marilyn is satisfied, and maybe not. It would be nice to know.

  • This sounds crazy, but I can't delete a document in Pages.  How do I do that?  duh.

How do I delete an entire document in Pages?  I've tried and it won't go away!  I've used every key word/phrase I can think of to get an answer.  Thank you.

If you have never saved it just close it and don't save.
If you saved it, go to Finder where you saved it to (probably in your Documents folder), and drag the file to the trash.

  • How do you delete a document in Pages?

How do you delete a document in Pages? I keep trying to and it's still there...very annoying. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Where have you saved the document, or are you talking about a template?
You do not delete any documents inside Pages. You must locate them in Finder (probably in the Documents folder) and then drag them to the Trash.

  • Lion Preview can't delete or insert pages to a PDF document

I have the following problem: I open a PDF file in preview. I delete some pages as I used to in snow leopard. Then I save it. The document's page count changes to the correct number in the window title bar. However, if I open the saved version after closing the current window I see that nothing is saved at all! The same thing happens when I try to insert pages to a PDF document. Looks like everything is fine, but when I close and reopen the document no changes are saved. The weird thing is file is modified, i.e. preview saves something but not my changes. It just re-saves the original document.

NUMACER's answer worked for me as well guys ! Didn't need to save a version, it just keeps it like that. I tried saving a version which saved on the same file instead of creating a new one (i know that since I saw the "Last modified" thing being updated at the same time) !
    Thanks Numacer

  • Can you delete the last page of a document with a script?

Hello, I have been building a script over the last week to help me remove formatting and reapply some of that formatting on a large number of files. I am still learning alot about how to build scripts and what the commmands are but I am almost doen with everything I need to put in it. One of the last things that I want to add is to delete the last page from the Indesign file whether it has content or not. Is this possible? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

    Something like this:
    if (app.activeDocument.pages.length > 1)
         app.activeDocument.pages[-1].remove();
First check if document contains more than one page, and if does, remove last page.
    Hope that helps.

  • Hi, I would like to know how can I recover a document from pages that I didn't save anytime and instead of clicking the button save I clicked the delete button at the end. Is there any way to recover it?

Hi, I would like to know how can I recover a document from pages that I didn't save anytime and instead of saving the doc I clicked the delete button. Is there any way to recover it?

Regardless of application, the first step that I take is to save and name the current document — even if it has no content yet. With Pages, this good habit enables autosave. As you add content, your document revision history is restorable via the File Revert To menu. The delete key has the same document foreboding as only teaching a pet raven to speak "Nevermore."

Sorry no. That's how it works.
Check if you still have an old backup and do a restore otherwise it's gone.

Really having problems with organising documents in pages. For example, deleting pages deletes the whole section and I cannot insert a section break as its greyed out & sending an object to background deletes several pages and trying to insert a text box autmatically creates new pages- what the **** is going on??? Is this programme really this badly thought out? I thought everything apple was supposed to be intuitive!?!?!? Help.

You can not insert a section break into a textbox.
You appear to have a lot of objects with wrap set, that once you take them out of the flow of text (by sending them to the background) causes the text to reflow and contract into fewer pages. Pages is almost unique in the way it forms up pages in Word Processing mode only so long as there is text on them.
I suspect you probably have hammered away at returns, spaces and tabs as well to position things, which only works to add to the mess.
Download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf available under the Help menu and swot up a bit on how it works.
You may find this a usueful resource as well:

PS There is quite a lot of programming in OSX that is far from "intuitive". Pages is easy at one level, when using the templates, otherwise it can be quite frustrating.

You can restore from iTune or iCloud backup if you have one.

  • How do I delete unwanted documents in Pages? I am using Toshiba laptop with Windows 7, 32 bit

I have deleted unwanted documents rom my ipad 2 but cannot delete them from Pages on my Laptop.

No. This is what the Pages User Guide, downloadable from Apple, says:
+You can create a new Pages document by importing a document created in another application, such as Microsoft Office 2007 or AppleWorks. Pages can import the following file formats: plain text (.txt), Rich Text Format (.rtf and .rtfd), AppleWorks 6 word processing (.cwk), and Microsoft Word (.doc).+
What is .wpd by the way?? A new format of some kind?

  • I am new and I can't figure out how I can delete a document in pages

I am new and I can't figure out how I can delete a document in pages. Please help

    JM,
Command-Click the filename at the top of the Pages window. In the list that pops up, click on the second item, the parent folder of the document. A finder window will open. Control-click the highlighted file and select "Move To Trash". Close the document.
